I've never played a monster hunter game, but I think the designs are super cool.

How did they come up with such interesting monsters? While the monsters may have some animal traits or features common to typical monsters, they also have some more original looks to them that isn't just like generic 'dragon' or 'hydra'.

How do those japs do it?

Capcom has always had the highest tier visual designers. They have a grasp of how to make something interesting without making it tacky and ridiculous on one end or plain and boring on the other end. Shame the Frontier guys didn't quite get the memo.

I think transport did. The output fan died and so I need the tri-wing screwdiver head that opens up the system on top of a new fan, unless the old one had its cord knocked out. Otherwise just using it results in overheating and the system turning itself off.

I doubt it's ever getting localized. At least it's easy to play in Japanese and the 3DS has an English patch. Figuring out what skills your charms have on them is a pain in the ass though.

Rathalos and Zinogre are in 3U, 4U, and Gen, Nargacuga is in 3U and Gen.
DO NOT start with Gen or XX (Gen's definitive version), it will make you a bad player because of how many get out of jail free cards it gives you then expects you to use in endgame along with a literal easymode that triples your I-frames for nearly no cost.

Also 3U and 4U are just better games all around. They run at better framerates, have better environments and texture filtering, and better lighting engines. Generations' neglect for all that down to the shadow resolution for some extra particle effects that cover your entire screen and flashy special attacks from both hunters and monsters that visibly dip the framerate if you look at them from the top down is an embarrassment to the series in my opinion.

About 10-20 meters long on average, maybe 3-6 meters at the shoulder, not big enough for your tastes. But some are fuckhuge.

Yeah, but I meant in terms of their esthetic. Just from the fanart I can tell there's lots of good character design that went into the monsters.

One thing that bugged me about Pacific Rim is that they act like the monsters are well established and known, but at the same time it's very spur of the moment. It's meant to feel like "It's old Leatherback, we'll need two class-4 jagers to take him on!" When in truth they give the nickname minutes after they first see the thing, and they find a way to kill it within hours.

In Monster Hunter it looks like the monsters are... recurring. And therefore more established. Like they're properly grounded in that world.
