I clearly remember the hatchimals threads here and everyone saying kids would just watch them hatch, play with them a little, and then forget about them forever hours after opening them.
Not sure if that was a good assessment of their popularity but that's as good as I got and I wouldn't trust the site that's siding with the store over /toy/.
