I really like Metro. And like Fort Max ok, but that's just it. He's a retooled metroplex and doesn't really even do that as well. The small ramps, the lack of folding legs, etc. He looks pretty sweet in botmode though. Plus, I only paid $40 for him so there's that. I'm just saying that the city mode on the G1 is amazing and I wish they'd have tried harder on recreating that.

Buy the improved bootleg Barricade instead when it comes out. It won't be released in toy stores obviously so you'll pay the same as everyone else, and it looks quite a bit better than the original release.

so how would you design a gimmick based Generations styled line.

I had the idea of making it be based on the Triggerbot/con gimmick for the deluxe figures, scouts would be micromaster bases and both leader/voyagers are weapon platformers.

I was thinking of the weapon platforms be more based on toys like Pyro and Clench or Ratchet/Ironhide where the vehicle kibble is a weapon platform and you have the robot modes that are scaled as Voyagers (leader scaled) and Voyagers are the same but deluxe sized (example Iron Fist for example)

So many issues:

-Being a retool meant that many things the original FM had were nixed, like the pop up guns in the arms. It also made people compare him to Metro, who was cheaper, and had better transformations, and a Handheld weapon.
-Lacks all the handheld weapons
-No Cog
-Extremely terrible City transformation. Metroplex was also downgraded but FM took it to a whole new level of laziness.
-Cerebros was too large, he should have been smaller since his head looks too large on the FM body. (nixing the sound/lights feature would have made this possible).
-The Head attachment for FM is really bad, I'm not sure it would last very long.
-Hasbro release has a rather bland color scheme compared to the toy's original colors (I don't think Takara's are that much better, since they ignored the new details on the face and just painted it like normal)

The proportions are pretty much exactly the same though. Like you said, it's "90% the same bot."

As I see it, all that's new are some new vehicle mode details, much better feet/calves, chest can now flip so it's not just the car grille and it appears to sit higher, new joints in the door wings, that doohickey on his right forearm, and the entire car roof on the back of the original can now fold up into a rather tidy backpack. It's not a huge laundry list of changes, and most of these things don't affect his silhouette much at all. I mean, aside from the back-roof thing, which I think we can all agree is a huge improvement.

His legs would need complete replacing, his torso would need to be completely remolded so it doesn't splay open, he'd need completely new arms AND shoulder joints, and obviously the head. The tail wouldn't even work because it would need to bend way more to get up in robot mode, and it'd need a point

I got Menasor and Bruticus. The Menasor set was great but Bruticus was fucking awful. He had next to no paint outside of the camo so there was nothing to make any of the sculpted details pop, the plastic used for Onslaught was garbage and resulted in everything being loose and floppy, and to add insult to injury, they assembled my copy incorrectly with the black pieces in Onslaught's knees being put in BACKWARDS. I didn't notice it at first and tried to get his knees to lock in bot mode so the bumps on the black pieces wound up pressing into the plastic and left these huge stress marks on his knees and stated to split the legs apart. I was eventually able to get it all apart and put the black pieces in correctly but Hasbro didn't make it easy with how many places they used pins pins had to be removed to get the legs apart, especially when one of them was covered in one end. The few screws they did use were also all stripped and almost impossible to get out without just drilling and replacing them.

Suffice it to say, I was pissed. I love G2 Bruticus and his gaudy color scheme but the CW set was such a cheap piece of shit, even by CW's already low standards.

Really it's more that Hasbro and Takara designers work out designs together, then Takara does the sculpt while Hasbro maps out material costs, then they meet somewhere in between their needs. Takara designers have regularly said they hate how restrictive Hasbro is on their designs to meet profit margins, so it's not accurate to say it's a majority of Hasbro's effort.

I'm not sure if I should nickname this guy "MP Stickerchest" or "MP Fingerprints" but either way G2 Sideswipe is neat. I'm really glad the G2 Autobot sticker is clearbacked rather than colorbacked because takara's colorback stickers (like Shockwave or Ratchet) simply don't match the paint at all and looked terrible.

I think the sticker glue has gone a little weak though since this G2 logo is slightly bumpy around the edges,

And seriously the piano black paint is nice as fuck but he turns into a poseable fingerprint record after five minutes of playing with him. I'll guess think of him as a reminder to wash my hands

Could pick up a set of these, if you don't mind paying 10 bucks. They stay on really well, and end up looking almost like a tampograph. Much better than the stickers they give you or shitty reprolabels. Sexy lambobots. I'm starting to get tempted by Clampdown and Tigertracks, but no one REALLY needs five lambobots.

For QC/Tolerance issues, the worst thing was I needed to tighten Alert's left elbow. The elbow joints on all of these guys are fairly weak but Alert's left arm could barely support itself, which sucks because getting the elbow apart scrapped off a little bit of red paint from his arm. All is well now though (in fact its kind of too tight). Also not the shoulder joint itself, but the part the shoulder is attached to on G2 Sideswipe's left side is kind of loose and if I bend the arm up in a cartain way it'll come untransformed. Not sure what the best way to tighten that would be

C3's are actually quite cushy. Good visibility, strong brakes and power steering, smooth shifting, soft suspension and the seats are pretty comfy as opposed to sports car seats that try to hold you in place. At that time, Corvettes had been hit pretty hard by emissions restrictions and they weren't putting out much power, and they were becoming more widely popular, so Chevy started making them more accommodating instead of being full-on sports coupes. Compared to the other MP cars, like the Coutach or the Stratos which are absolutely miserable to drive, it's quite luxurious. Beetles are in the middle. They're easy to drive, but the suspension and interior comfort are trash. Used Beetles are nowhere near as coveted as C3s on the American market. They're cute, but still regarded as cheap and uncomfortable.

Actually G1 was animated by Toei (Japanese studio) for 68 episodes while AKOM (Korean studio) only worked on 20. Of those 20, 15 of them weren't done until Transformers 2010 (long after the original series was popular), and the last three never even got to Japan until the mid 90s.
