I never saw any exclusive set, even if there is TRU in my country... Even for things like SW's Black series figure, they keep the unsold Finn's and constable Zuvio's one and they'll not take newer until everyting is gone.
>>
>>6512832
At one point you could get the complete figure minus hair through Bricks & Pieces. Most of the parts are out of stock now, but you might be able to order them if you call it in.

BK mech is shit, though, only good things about it are Whiperella and, if you like bonkle, the exclusive visor. No point in getting it when there's King's Mech or even the battlesuits.
>>
>>6512813
Sir Von Lego confirmed on EB that Harry Potter will be an whole wave.
>>
>>6512841
What I heard was that the Nexo sets are actually in the European catalog, and set for a January '18 release date. Then there's the fact that given LEGO's established release scheme that a delayed American release would mean a whole year between wave releases.
Could they be coming to America? Sure, but I'm preparing myself for a Nexo-free 2018.
>>
>>6512832
Just checked on BL, she's in there, could live without her set.

She'll be on my "Really want it" list with Salacious Crumb and Luna Lovegood. That kind of fig that i want but i never thought about them when i'm taking a BL order.
>>
>>6512834
Funfact: the reason the black knight mech sucks compared to the king's mech is because execs meddled with the release schedule.
The BKM was designed first by Mark Stafford based on the original concept art and Junya Suzuki then modified it into the King's Mech which had much better articulation and was supposed to come out in the summer wave.
Stafford even apologized for it on Brickset.

It's not like that's actually a bad thing considering how cluttered the Lego shelves are these days, for the longest time we had Nexo Summer '16 sets deeply clearance to make room for Winter '17.

The american catalog which was leaked only covers the first half of the year so NK and Elves might still be released in USA in july or later.

This being said, since Ultra Agents has a final wave which was USA exclusive, it's not unlikely the NK and Elves sets are indeed euro only, especially since both themes will likely end this year.

>>6512848
Suzuki might be one of the best designers Lego has now, he's behind the battlesuits too. There was a lot of various prototypes at his panel on Japan Brickshow earlier this year.

>The american catalog which was leaked only covers the first half of the year so NK and Elves might still be released in USA in july or later.

Which I fully grant is possible, but like I said, a year between waves seems excessive and out of character.

They really should have turned that recolored King's Mech into a real set.
>>
>>6512866
There were some themes with waves separated by a whole year instead of 4-6 months, but it's been a while since the last time they did it - Agents and Mars Mission were the last case, and the latter only because in some european countries one small wave was skipped.

I somewhat doubt this, if only because a Euro release still requires an English Language version of tie-in material to be produced, so it's not like those can't also be sold in North America.

100% this. I'm not a fan of this or the trend creating big molded pieces that are designed for a specific set. I wish they'd do a limited re-release of some of the classic sets like they did in the early 2000s. I got 6074, 6067, and pic related for like $110 combined.

Yes, but for my purposes I don't really consider duplo and the little kid shit to be LEGO. I'm thinking about sets like pic related. Nowadays it seems like the majority of vehicle sets have a giant nose/windshield piece that used to require 5+ pieces.
>>
>>6512969
>Nowadays
Since 90s.
>>
>>6512969
The whole boat is a single piece, 1987.

There were sets with pieces that only serve one purpose for basically as long as minifigs, with time we forget the shittier old toys and only remember the good ones, often additionally idealizing them through nostalgia. There are problems with modern Lego, like heavy reliance of shit licenses which usually only lead to crap sets (TLBM was the only capeshit line with decent sets for example, imo), but this is not something new, and also hardly a problem, kids are meant to start with the simpliest stuff and gradually move to more complex builds - planes and ships with a few huge pieces like that are a middle ground, basically.

>>
>>6512969
Creator sets almost never use large molded pieces, city sets are just plain shittier and are meant to be more like action figures and toy vehicles than building sets
Also jack stone and around 2000 lego was much much worse. The new sets are vast improvements across the board in building techniques and design

meh, this seemed different to me. stuff like pic related that i got as a kid never bugged me. it made sense because the solid hull made it float. i'm probably just blinded by nostalgia and my fondness for the old stuff. i 100% agree about the license issue though. seems like all i ever see in stores is star wars, capeshit, creator, and rehashes of the same city shit.

Don't get me wrong, I know City is and will always be a staple. But I miss the old days of castle, pirate/armada/islanders, adventurers, and western. Even the stuff I didn't buy very often like exploriens and aquanauts just seemed so much cooler than what's introduced today. Meh. Nostalgia is a bitch.

I'm >thisguy >>6512899 from the previous thread. I cannibalized a few parts from other customs last night and managed to get enough black pieces to cobble together another tower. Also, converted an old castle series boat into a dragon catapult.

Additional structures are going to be a bitch at this point. I have a fair amount of city doors/windows and colored pieces, but I'm pretty fucked on black and gray bricks.

Went on a building spree this weekend and knocked out a bunch of sets I'd been sitting on. Love the deep-sea theme sets! I want to complete it, eventually.

Still gotta get around to the Town Square set (60097) and I also picked up Rex's AT-TE for 60 bucks the other day at Target, which I'll probably tackle first as I'm really eager to add it to the Star Wars shelf. Love Clone Wars vehicles, but trying to limit myself to Imperial era sets, so the AT-TE was a perfect compromise, haha.

I know Andrew (https://www.flickr.com/photos/51476462@N03/) sells some of his instructions.

The thing about selling whole kits is that you have to become a store, and spend time buying parts and assembling kits. But instructions is a purely digital business, so your costs don't linearly scale with your sales.

Also, I would question the assumption that by selling kits with pieces you would make more money. Instructions are FAR cheaper, and can even be an impulse buy, whereas if someone is spending 50+ dollars on a full kit, they're going to think about the purchase.

Fuck that is sick news, i really hope that we will get some sets from the first few movies redisigned, there is a lot of potential for castle builders, and maybe hogwarts express for train fags. I hope that we will get redisigned cerberus dog, nagini, basilisk, troll, hypogriff and so on because those designs should be updated. The theme has got great potential but we will see the final outcome. Lego hp was released during my dark ages and i regret bitterly not owning a single hp set, especially the old ones have great minifigures and charm to them. I just hope we wont get some shit 800$ ucs sculptureshit which only few people can justify spending that much money on.

Judging from the double-clips sticking at the side of the feet makes me think you are already trying to make some posable coverup on the sides of the feet of sorts. If some sort of rounded shaping can cover up atleast the upper technic-axle it might look smoother.

Have you thought about making the torso part slightly bigger? 5-wide or something?

Well how I figure it, you'd be playing a "Tower-Defense" style of game.
Your character would build Defenses, Resource Generators, and Mob/Vehicle Spawners around a particular Objective, then either go on the Attack with their Mobs Swarms or stay on the Defensive, giving simple orders to Mobs as needed.
A Player Character dying won't directly loose them the game, but respawning might cost a side time or Resources.

when you say moba i think tf2

First of all, why is your example of an RTS a weird indie PS3 title (or the less good sequel)

Second., just give them different abilities than the base class. It's an RTS, so something like Starcraft? Different units can do different things. Where did you get the idea that you can only have low-tier minions?

>>
>>6513649
another anon said fat princess would be a good example for gameplay

i think i might be confused on the second part
in lego battles there can be only one of the hero class, balanced out by the fact that they can automatically heal units in close proximity and can use spells to increase defense, attack power and whatnot
so they're more of a supporting role to the rest of the army's raw strength
that and there really is no "base class" in lego battles, its just soldiers and vehicles
>>
>>6513666
Alright I am super confused, because there are more people in this discussion than I thought (the starcraft comment was my first time chiming in)
I've never played lego battles, but I didn't think you'd be restricting yourself to that style of gameplay

2012:

Dino, Monster fighters

2015:

Jurassic World, Scooby-Doo

2018:

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and it was going to be S.C.O.O.B. but because it was delayed for a 2020 release we don't have any monster theme. The only case can be the new 2018 cartoon Ghostbusters:Ecto Force or another Scooby doo cartoon.

It's over, Lego is finished
>>
>>6515640
Nope, it just needs to reconsider all fhese licences. And movies. Hell, this year we got two of them.
Also, this is why next year Nexo and Elves are EU-only and Super Hero Girls is US-only. They're doing the right choices to try reducing losses.
>>
>>6515640
I think that a lot of lego sets are unaffordable for children these days, and lets face it, afols make up 1% of lego buyers. Lego should make more 10-50$ range sets and sell them in large quantities rather than making 300 dollar sets. Few years ago most expensive and flagship sets costed around 100 dollars and that is top price most parents would spend on a toy. Only few 100+ dollars should be made in a year
>>
>>6515635
I'd recognize that Punch Tank chassis anywhere!
>>
>>6515642
Did you even read the article? It says the " LEGO Batman movie products also saw a great response from consumers."
>>6515691 is right though. There are a lot more $100+ sets on shelves than there used to be. It's hard to pump out entire waves of $15-20 sets though,(like with Exo Force) without there being some loss in quality. Something has to give.

I like the idea behind the Peru one but the actual thing looks like shit. Maybe we'll at least indirectly get a CMF Inca out of it.
>>
>>6515640

I fint it quite sad that after 10 years of amazing growth and new profit records one year with a 3 % loss means they Will fire almost 10 % of their employees.
>>
>>6515721
>I hope they start listening to there non-target market more

Literally why would they do this
>>
>>6515735
A convenient excuse.
>>
>>6515721

Every single time I bother to pay attention to others in the toys aisle, it's parents letting the kids pick out whatever. Then they negotiate on price, 'get something smaller' not 'get something that's a Real Castle Themeâ„¢ reee'
>>
>>6515721
If anything they should make more 5-30$ sets from themes kids are more likely to buy. I hardly see small City, Ninjago or Friends stuff shelfwarming, but big SW or superhero sets are still arund after two years quite often. Some of the stores in my area still have the First Order transporter.
>>
>>6515744
Both Bonkle and Mixels had whole lot of $5-$10 sets.

Both themes were cancelled
>>
>>6515746
Mixels were on shelves for three years, though, isn't that a standard for most themes nowadays?
>>
>licensed sets save LEGO 16 years ago
>now licensed sets cause LEGO's demise

It's like pottery
>>
>>6515746
>>6515748
Bionicle was a shitty wave so it's no surprise it fizzled out, but it had normal run especially for a resurgence of the theme
Models also had a normal theme time line
Not every theme is ninjago and willlast a decade
>>
>>6515713
Lego has become more status symbol than a toy for every kid. Lego should just ditch the luxury and make smaller sets affordable for children and put main characters like boba fett and vader in smaller sets so people would not bother ordering bootlegs from china. But that's just my opinion
>>
>>6515791
What if lego also owns the bootleg factories?
>>
>it's an "AFOLs think they know anything about business" episode
>>
>>6515628
> Westeros architecture series
>based on the books and not the show
Truly you have your finger on the pulse of the people
>>
>>6515796
classic town, castle and space made Lego what it is, they just need to go back to their core clientele
>>
>>6515791
I do wonder why Lego stopped making sets like Final.Duel 1 & 2 and whatever year it was that if you bought several smaller sets, you'd get Jabba's palace
>>
>>6515795
That's where the CMFs are made.
>>
>>6515640
>>6515746

Just a reminder that Lego is seeking fansites like TTV and BZP to help make an effort to better sell their SW Ultrabuilds. Why? Because they're overpriced (around $10 more than a Bionicle set of the same size) and as attractive as Galidor figures. Reminder that they prematurely cancelled Bionicle G2 due to poor budgeting and most likely not wanting their SW figure having any competition with any in-house theme. Reminder they brought this on themselves.
>>
>$700 UCS set has 7 minifigures
>2 of them are new
>>
>>6515640
Does anyone feel like they're releasing so much stuff now that it's hard to keep up with it all? I have a feeling that may be why there are more unsold sets. They're all cool, but there's no way the average person can buy all of it. The price points are on the higher side also, so parents might only get one from a given theme and that's it. Themes that have a lot of cheaper sets could move more product probably.
>>
>>6515824
And they have made cool small harry potter sets which could be joined with hogwarts castle to make expansion, sets like clasrooms and dorm rooms, those were nice.

Also, what do you think, do lego employees browse lego general on /toy/ for feedback or is it pretty unknown
>>
>>6515843
I'd rather have shitiest and worst of bionicle than star wars junk. Also those star wars buildable figures are shelf warmers for few years, at least in my country and no one is willing to buy them even when they are discounted, and usually they are discounted on former bionicle price, i hope lego star wars will die one day

You know what would save Lego tons of money? Ending the current Ideas program. Half of the approved projects that have gone into production were based on licensed IPs that Lego did very little with outside of Ideas (BBT, WALL-E, Beatles, I'm looking at you). The majority of projects that reach the review stage are rejected outright due to Lego's internal criteria, but it's still a waste of time and resources to go through the motions and consider them. Ideas gives lie to "the wisdom of the crowd." What 10,000 individuals like does not necessarily reflect what the public are willing to buy.

Lego should move Ideas to a "pay to play" model like a crowdfunding platform. It would be harder for shit projects to reach the review stage if everybody had to put their money where their mouths are to support a project, and there would still be no guarantee that a project would go into production. Funds collected by the rejected projects could even go to defraying the production costs of the approved projects.

I hate that fucking "lego is appreciating in value more than gold" meme, because every nigger thinks that their 4 years old set should be worth double in value now, reality is most sets are worth less than their original price. Thing with 80' sets is that a lot of people didn't keep their old sets and thats why they are so expensive and rare today

Pic related for me, I always loved the Fright Knights Witch but I didn't buy her until last week. She's awesome in person and I love the evil little face they gave her (along with her spider cloak and dress), such a nicely designed minifig.

It would not suprise me if lego made 9th millenium falcon for upcoming han solo movie and all these sw fags would continue sucking legos dick and be happy about it because old one needed redesign so much and new one is so great
>>
>>6516117
I seriously miss the days of Lego making cute caricatures of SW vehicles and locations. Small, compact, and simple. I miss when the idea was to take the Lego aesthetic and transform something and make it different. Not make fucking scale models that need to be super accurate to the source material right down to the fucking vents and control panels.
>>
>>6516138
Yeah, that aestethic was great, it was in spirit of lego and lego version of star wars, with very little special pieces. Now it's overdetailed and overdone. It feels like lego is forced to adopt to star wars aestethic rather than translating star wars iconic moments and locations to lego
>>
>>6516144
It's not just Star Wars. If we're going to discuss Lego sets being too expensive, you can translate the trend of hyper realism to almost all the themes. Where? Scale. A LOT of sets make huge vehicles and whatnot to be 1:1 with minifigures. I say in the world of Lego, cars can be tiny, planes can be 6 studs wide. Starter sets with lines like City are all I ever feel like buying these days. Why? Because a $10 buggy with a set piece is way more fun and affordable than a single huge ass something for like $30+
>>
The main problem i see with licenced Lego sets is they are "good" to make to make vehicles and ships but for some scenes recreation, they suck.
Now ok, for Star wars it kinda works, people mostly wants spaceships and stuff. And kids prefer to buy ships than scene. But they just don't try for scenes, remember Assault on hoth. A disaster. The only one actually good i remember was Ewok tree village.
Now the Super Heroes series, they try to apply Star wars logic to that, almost no scene but vehicles. I bought nothing in 2017 in that serie and i'm fan of comics. Last set that really excited me was Web warriors bridge. Why selling the hulks with horrible motos ? They barely fit on it. Oh and that Thor ragnarock arena... 60$ for a wall + figs. This is airport hero battle 2.0.
Then again i can understand, kids love everything that roll or fly. But for me, i just reduced this year to buying stuff for my city.
>>
>>6516236
i agree with you, but i think you forgot to mention LotR, which i think had pretty good scenes
>>
>>6516245
Harry potter had some pretty decent locations because there isn't much vehicleshit except for hogwarts express and ford but those were good actually and we rarely get cheap trains. Also potc had some really good sets too, shame we only got silent mary from this movie, it could have been made instead of fucking moana
>>
>>6516245
And i forgot to mention, lotr was absolutely the best, but lego really is retarded for missing barad dur and minas tirith opportunities and balrog set, i believe army builders would sell like hotcakes also.
>>
>>6516245
Well i won't mention dead series for today problems, but yeah it was nice for "Medieval" building. Only point i didn't like is we didn't get any "full castle" but only front gates.

I like the ideas project personally. But they could be a bit more strict with the rules for uploading.
It's not a project they have to put very much effort into if they don't want to. It's basically a waiting game of people having fun with an arbitrary milestone to weed things out. I got my aunt the beatles sub and she really loved it and built it together. The fishing store is great. While the mech wasn't for everyone, we got a classic space set out of it.

Also Voltron is probably the least Weeaboo gook IP around. It's the 80's nostalgia equivalent of calling Pokemon or Powerrangers Weeaboo.

>>6516174
I have the same right now, sort of. My own cars and models tend to be exactly in the middle of them. Way more dense and detailed than city, but much smaller than the giant overscaled stuff.
For buildings this isn't really the case though. Modulars make me cream myself a little, while the price is very very high, the attention to detail and complexity demands my respect and appreciation. Made just a small spacedoor diorama the some time ago with the partsbudget of a current 80+ pricerange set.

>>6515691
This guy is spot on. Much like why i thought people female figures were so rare (this has really changed in the last years though) and might have sold less, pretty much all female figures were in the €20+ sets. Not everybody buys the more expensive sets, i had for the most part had 90's equivalent of smaller up to €20ish sets growing up with maybe one big castle or technic set. I do absolutely love the superdetailed extravagant sets we see today though, we truly live in a goldenage for Lego at the moment.

The classic colourscheme and clean use of surfaces is very nice.

I personally wouldn't have used tan for the lions. Also the white squares that are flush to the black/red timberframing next to it feel a bit abrupt. I dont know why lego ditched all those classic lego themes, sure we've got ninjago and it has got some great sets, but at first ninjago was made in some fantasy setting than it was later set in some futuristic world, but at least it is the best theme with city nowadays. Atleast we could get 1 classic theme every 1-2 years, i mean playmobil is doing just that and i dont see them bankrupt or something
Also i would really like those themes return aslong with western which everyone forgets about and in my opinion it was a great theme

They brought this upon themselves, because they removed their own themes so they would not make competiton for licenseshit. At first licences saved lego now it will be their doom if they dont make changes to their business. Also with more licences the price of sets go up, and less parents are willing to buy those sets and find something cheaper instead because they dont see value in those sets. For example in my country jokers balloon escape costs 20€ and small city starter set is 10€, is that joker balloon escape worth twice as much and is twice as good as the city set? I dont think so and so do a lot of parents, this was just one example and there are many more

So one of the things on my long list of shit to do/work on is a Lego amusement park.
Of course I plan to use the Friends amusement park stuff as a base, but then build extra attractions myself.

One of the ideas I had for a ride would be a licensed ride. Or maby it's not licensed and the park owner/carnies just built it to cash in, I don't know yet. Either way, the idea was for a Star Wars themed ride, similar to the Friends Space Ride set.
So I got one of the Space Rides, then modified a Microfighters X-Wing and Y-Wing that I had kicking about and this is what I got.

The SW ships are noticeably heavier then the ones that came with the sets and you can see that they kinda make it "sag" a bit more then it should.

So I'm looking for feed back.
Should I ignore this and just keep the basic ride like this?
Or should I try and build something different? I was thinking maby some sort of junior/kids ride, that just goes around in a circle, maby a little gentle up and down.

Western is not a "classic" theme, it didn't last for long and came around the same time as Adventures and Aquazone. Some of the sets were great, though, and considering how often western-themed figures show up in blindbags I won't be surprised if the eventual Nexo replacement will be some sort of western-based fantasy theme.
>>
>>6517394
Most of the concepts were made, just more brick built than molded (especially the golems and such)
Though their whole color scheme is just off for me. all the new rock molded pieces for minifigs and stuff is purple so it's hard to use them for other things. Some more natural rock color with purple accents would have been better imo
Then again, all of next knights is pretty painfully brightly colored which kind of kills the "knight" half of the concept
>>6517325
I mean this is way better than the fortex we got. I do know that it's a kid toy and making it largely colored instead of neutral makes sense for kids, but a man has a right to bitch. (Though ninjago has the same color coded characters and their sets use color way better)
>>
>>6517206
The stuff previewed features spider-themed vehicles, so I think it'll be something halfway between these zombie guys and the unused Chima beetle warriors that had the same black/transparent green color scheme.

I really hope they'll use the orcs for something in the future, either for more NK, a new theme, or even Ninjago if nothing else. I understand why they didn't use the dragon people since Ninjago had reptile people more than once and Chima had crocs, but it's been a decade or so since the Castle orcs.
>>
>>6517283
There's more than one, CMF and Monster Fighters concept art from a while ago, that one which also showed what eventually became the Chima mamooth bigfig and the huge NK guys, featured a figure that straight up looked like a night goblin and some WH-inspired evil elves.

They pretty clearly had a middle management purge planned for a while and just used the small sales drop (what was it, 3%? Compared to double digit growth in 2015, and continous growth in general for the past decade or so?) as an excuse. Things like that happen.

Hasbro and Mattel both do worse than Lego in the financial department and yet neither is going away any time soon, I genuinely don't know why anyone would be worried about Lego.

This being said, I do think they should do something with the SW license, the large sets and espcially buildable figures do shelfwarm basically everywhere.
>>

That's an exception, not a rule, stores where I live don't even have the pirate wave anymore, to be fair NK didn't shelfwarm here either asides from some of these "basic knight but in trasparent armor" sets. Meanwhile SW ultrabuilds shelfwarm everywhere and that's objectively a problem, shit takes a lot of shelf space.

A loss in profits is just a good excuse to "trim fat" from a period of large growth
Whether or not they actually need to is up for debate

Has anyone hd pics of the SoG sets?

Omg,these look generic as fuck. If Nexo had the Cy Orcs then Ninjago would've end.
>>
>>6517658
The orcs weren't even considered for a wave, it's early concept art like the Chima pic with rats and werewolves as the villains. Rough sketches about what the theme is meant to be about from god knows how long ago.

It's pretty obvious the totally-not-WH40k idea had to be toned down to avoid long legal battles with Games Workshop since they're paranoid about their IP - even though it wouldn't be much of a financial loss, copyright lawyers probably advised against it by principle.

The temple looks cool ish, but I agree with the rest
Not even interesting vehicles, it's just bikes and cars with swords on them
>>
>>6517667
Yeah, they look very 2012. I guess the designers focused on the movie sets?
>>
>>6517671
They give me more of an 2011 vibe than 2012. Maybe the background colors?
>>
>>6516513
I got about a dozen figures from this old alien line back in 2009 (including 2 red, 2 blue, 1 black and the rest in those red and blue robots) for $10, they're so cool.

Decided to replace the semi-useless side compartment with a door. Ignore the weird colored part, I'm waiting on an order.

The red technic balls and printed tiles just look like John Blanche faces like the shield in pic related too

I'm now genuinely curious how would a WH40k project fare on Ideas

While I'd love to see it happen, I feel legal issues may make it an impossibility.
>>

GW would shut down competing miniatures(that would probably be cheaper than their stuff)
And I think lego wouldn't want something so adult
But fuck I want it. I love the 40k world but the tabletop game is bad and expensive time sink and I'm not into rts games so that cuts out a lot

If you had flipped the pieces aroundfor theramp, you could have put the other pieces on, and made a natural slope for the ramp support, and not have to worry about taking off the other two pieces....

You can only resell the Lego X-wing so many times...

Also.... bring back classic-like themes. I miss the sets that were just knights. Nexo brings some interesting pieces and characters, but it feels like it's too much. I just want some non-showboaty knights guarding their outpost from brigands or other knights. Give them spears, barrels, and other boring knight shit.
