It blows my mind that HasTak/3Ps haven't given us a triple-changing Optimus that turns into a mecha gorilla AND a truck. Seems so obvious (and Primal Prime doesn't count).

And yet, somehow we've had one that turns into a dragon and a train...

>>
Would anyone be into a Netflix/Gamefly subscription model for toys (TFs specifically), where you pay a monthly fee to "rent" 2-3 figures at a time? If you like it you can buy it at a discount as-is, otherwise just send it back and wait for your next trial toy to show up in the mail.

Sure you can always throw a toy on Ebay if you're tired of it, but there are so many figures I'd like to fiddle with just once or twice and then move on. Would make things like the Springer/Trailbreaker wars more interesting too if people could go hands-on before picking their favorite.
>>
>>6505580
Hell No.

I don't want figures that someone I don't know has been doing who the hell knows to them. I want a new on, not one who's broken or otherwise worn down in its joints and tolerances.

>>
>>6505730
Honestly, I don't even think he's all that upset by his designs getting jacked just by itself. The part that has him annoyed is A. he had to IMMEDIATELY start reaching out to a friend he knew at Takara to let him know the situation so they wouldn't sue him over this and B. rabid Japanese TF fans just kneejerked and started harassing him because they assumed he WAS working with GT on these and how dare he use poor defenseless Takara's IP to make money for himself!

He probably would have been pretty flattered if it weren't for the hassle he had to deal with because of it. It's kinda shitty of GT to jack his designs like that but honestly, he ultimately is better off not getting any credit for them. If he did have any formal connection with GT on these, Takara would have been within their rights to go after him and it would have likely ruined his life and reputation as an artist.

I know the gold standard in legend size figures in 3p is DX9. But is the new hot soldier Soundwave any good? I dont own any 3p legend figures besides a KO of the GT megatron.
Is the hot soldiers soundwave worth the price at $15 or should i wait for DX9, which like to be at least $25 and up.

Though, i do admit in term of look i like the near G1 redux of hot soldiers better.

For as much as I know FT to be highly praised, I haven't bought any of their products yet. Mostly in regards to sale pricings I opted for Visualizers over Spotter, and BC's Insecticons over theirs. Vehicle mode is about deluxe size, though. Those collapsible thighs really shrink him down in a way official mainline toys really never do.

He's also larger than a CW/LG Ultra Magnu's truck, with a slightly larger cab and much longer truck bed. I don't have any PMOP or Ginrai's to compare with, but I can't imagine it being much different than Ultra Magnus.

I can't really properly show off the combined mode since i don't have a Ginrai/PMOP, but trying to stick him onto my LP Ultra Magnus is a nice teaser for myself (Like half the reason I even got this was because of how much I like the powered convoy gimmick).

Neither Ultra Magnus' chest plate nor Jinrai's included chest plate fit, so you'll need Core Magnus and his chest plate if you want this to work.

Also since no Ginrai/PMOP, I had to go ahead and buy that 25$ head along with him... yeah.

All in all I think this guy's pretty neat, even if you just want him as a pricy standalone chug-style Optimus instead of an accessory to PMOP/Ginrai.

Aside from the ab crunch he doesn't do much special in terms of articulation (in fact the elbows are somewhat limited) but I think he hits all the important checks articulation-wise.

Also he has 5mm ports on the undersides of his feet so get your fire effects ready for rocket feet

>>6506854
He's not without a few complaints, though.

First thing I noticed is that his feet are kind of small. He's not really difficult to balance at all, but you need to be conscious of the fact that he doesn't have much of a heel at all on his feet while posing him.

Some panels on his legs are a little difficult to get tabbed together in vehicle mode (especially those little gas tanks) I also found it really difficult to collapse his left leg until I shaved down a small amount of plastic inside his shin

The clearance between his upper arm and the stripe of silver paint on his body is kind of small and I imagine that paint might rub off easily if you aren't careful.

There's also no storage for his gun at all in robot mode (at least none that I've found), which is probably the one thing that actually annoys me. It doesn't really properly store in vehicle mode either, and just rests in one of the holes meant to attach to a trailer

What I've found is that the hinge on his back can be very slightly too large for the back panel to fit around in jet mode.

Sanding off a bit of paint let the back panel fit properly and made a flush jet mode. You don't need to trim/sand off nearly as much as I did here, I was just seeing what works and when I got to doing it to the other Seeker babies all I needed to do was round off the edges a bit.

The issue is probably just the paint making the hinge slightly too bit to fit where its supposed to, but since I had to do it to Ghost Starscream too it's probably just a matter of really tight tolerances.

I passed on it since I thought it was too expensive for what it was, and they didn't modify as much as I expected (like having the rest of the beats head on the back in robot mode, and extra flaps to stabilize the feet). Since they added the antenna and left the beast head parts as is, they're way too at risk of breaking.

Generation Toy's J4ZZ, MakeToys Downbeat and Toyworld's Coolsville, the last one doesn't get as much attention as the first two.

Recently Thew got one and hated it so much he gave it away, said it was worse to transform than Badcube's Sunsurge
>>
>>6507421
I don't know why, maybe I'm a contrarian in denial or something, but whatever version of a character is generally regarded as "the worst one" usually ends up being the one I'll like the most

I think J4ZZ looks nice though I don't care much for the IDW-esque detail stuff, but Downbeat has that "animation cells brought to life" look that's in vogue now that I just can't stand. Coolsville looks like what I'd expect an MP Carbot to look like.
>>
>>6506342
FansProject SteelCore
>>
>>6507449
Coolsville definitely has the aesthetic going on but after watching some reviews on him, he has a few things about him that I absolutely hate on site.
- It's obnoxious that they put all of the sponsor logos on him especially when the sponsors themselves are knockoff. I'd have rather they not bothered
- forearm gaps where the fists flip out is absolutely unacceptable on and MP style figure
- the rear windows that fill in the backs of the legs are attached to the foot and not the leg itself so when you want to rock his ankles, it causes those pieces to detach from the backs of his legs and just kinda float off the backs of his feet, exposing the gaps in his legs and breaking up his silhouette.

Lastly, I don't hate it but I'm also not thrilled about how much die-cast they used on him. A little bit for stability's sake can be nice but they just loaded him with the stuff. It might not actually cause problems for him but I know it can on some figures. His transformation also just doesn't look very fun and he's got so many squeaky joints.

I'm gonna hold off until I see FT make an offering or maybe Takara if either of them get around to it. I don't want to have to bo for Downbeat because he's a little boring aesthetically but he seems to have the fewest issues. I'd love to have J4ZZ for my CHUG collection but GT just had to go and make him MP scale. Guess he'll fit in if I ever pick up either GT's or GC's MP IDW Prime but otherwise, I'll probably pass on him.

Wish the arm ratchets were good enough to support gun mode members, any word on anybody working on a fix for it?
>>
>>6507865
The ratchets will hold for the most part if you're careful. The biggest issue is the weight just causing him to lean forward and kind tip whatever way the gun is facing. It's just too much weight too far out working like a big lever. Now on the other hand you can make it sort of like anf underslung gun using the tail as a handle and the stand parts from Tentakil as a turret mount.

I just got into collecting TF type figures and I don't really know where to start, or what's good.

I like beast modes over vehicle modes, in case that helps.
>>
>>6508819

Fans Toys is the best company.

Maketoys is great.

A lot of MMC is good.

The TFC Seacons are amazing.

But. This NOT a cheap hobby. At all.
>>
>>6508819
Where do you live?

Your cheapest option is typically whatever online retailer that's based nearest to you.
>>
Any Third Party making stuff for Titan Trypticon? There's so much they could make:

-New Brunt
-Zone Armor set
-New arms with more articulation
-Gigastorm horn, and tampos
-transforming throne that goes in the mouth and fits TM's
-Tiny Decepticons that fit on his chest

Shit, I could go on.
>>
>>6508819

The thing with 3P stuff to remember is quality can vary immensely. Always look up several reviews on youtube before buying any figure. Theres a few tidbits of advice I can give, though:

Generally, avoid anything by KFC or Xtransbots (XTB is a subcompany under KFC). They're universally known for shit quality and every single one of their releases has major issues. Literally only still in business because of idiots buying their garbage with the "maybe THIS time it'll be good!" mentality, and the owner apparently being mega rich.

Most things by MMC are pretty solid. Some of their newer releases haven't been so hot though (avoid anything based off their Lockdown/Cyclonus mold). MMC's Feral Rex is the only choice for a good Predaking set, and also one of the best combiners around.

Most things by Iron Factory are good. Pretty much everyones favorite company, if you want Legends class figures.

Most things by Maketoys are decent, though their older releases weren't so hot.

Fanshobby has put out good stuff, though you have to like their THICC aesthetic.

Most stuff by TFC has been trash. However, they've apparently pulled themselves out of the garbage heap with their recent Seacons, though like MMC and it's Feral Rex, the weight of the individual figures can cause some issues. Their Road Caeser is also looking to be good, since it's apparently using the same connections as their Seacons.
>>
>>6508964
Nothing so far. If anything gets made though, it'll probably be be DNA Designs. They've done upgrades for CW Devy and Fort Max and they're pretty good.

Actionrobo, robotoybase and robotkingdom (.com) have smaller markups than US sellers but they're only worth if you live close enough to china that shipping won't make up the difference.

>>
>>6508546
>Mental gymnastics much?

It's being precise. If you would have to buy directly from KFC the company wouldn't be so succesful. As I'm pretty sure their shipping rates and times, and customer service would be dreadful.

>How they're still in business I'll never know.

Because Keith owns a factory and owns, or is middle man for, many 3rd party companies. He can produce fast and cheap, has a big network and many people depend on him.
He also has good marketing, has shills posting on TFW and he even posts himself and acts like he's the man of the people.
An in the end the customers are the ones doing the choosing. Transformer fandom can be tiresome. And most of them want their toys yesterday and dislike nitpicking reviewers like Bobbington.

The reissue of MP-09X was much duller, but... eh. I still think the bright silver is stylish. Accuracy can suck my balls. I do kind of wish Grinder X had dark blue instead of black head/hands/thighs. Maybe they'll release swappable parts? I want that more than the cartoon dino head.
>>
>>6509755

This was their jew plan and I will fall for it.
>>
>>6508819

Shit isn't cheap. The cheap ones are usually crap. However, you can still find some gems. Your cheapest option is to get them second hand most of the time. Otherwise it isn't wise to pick them up and preorder them as quality can vary. Always look at reviews before dropping money down. There are a decent amount of consistently good companies but there can always be a dud.

There's not a ton of third parties with beast modes, but they exist. Most prominantly through Dinobots ,and combiners.

If you want a really fun T-rex former and other dinos, look at Planet X's FOC designs. They're a bit hard to find. Vulcan is getting a reissue from PX in a silver color scheme that looks really good.

Fansproject have a 3 pack of insecticons that goes down to $75 and they're great. there are other larger insecticon packs that are MP scale.

TFC's posidon combiners are full of fun beast modes and every member can stand alone as a solid figure. They aren't worth the $100 asking price but you can get them reliably off ebay with flash deals at $65 shipped.

There are some MP style beasts from Fanstoys and Xtransbots, also Generation Toy is starting a line styled like the OP.

I mean, you do what you want to do but If you wanted to get it, now you can and at a good price. And if they pull one like this again, they will never be trusted again.

You think that if you buy it, MakeToys will think it's an acceptable marketing campaign to cancel a figure just to release it a little bit later ?

I don't really see how it hurts anyone if they do this once and only once.
>>
>>6510130
>>6510117

Depends on what color you want the colors of the gun/extenders and the kneecap pieces, or if you just want another big gun. Personally the other parts that colormatch with the bot instead of the feet make the legs look way too long. The red looks best as it just looks like larger feet imo.
>>
>>6510408
I think the primary thing I'd be going for is the gun mode. It's perhaps not entirely clear, but it looks like it's a one-or-the-other kind of situation with the pieces. A third would simply function as a weapon stand, but it would at least give the option for color matching thigh pieces (I agree with you that the red feet parts are probably the best).

He isn't wrong. Ocular Max has fallen off the bus and their latest release was full of issues. I've got the Yellow trail breaker I picked up from TFcon and its a pile of tolerance issues and things that do not lock in place despite being absolutely gorgeous. Could you imagine them actually starting their defensor combiner with this kind of quality? It would make KFC blush.

The reformatted line is now more concerned about making their own versions of the characters they can remold into other things rather than nailing the tier 1 character first and then attempting to work around that, resulting in two or more wonky looking figures. Whirl, Rodimus, Cyclonus, all suffer from it. Roadbuster to Strika works great as a cool new take, but Bulkhead looks subpar. Thankfully the massive quality dip with the lockdown mold seems to have rectified itself as Whirl and friends are pretty solid, and their future stuff looks like they've dropped the wonky greebletown look for a more sleek and clean aesthetic they started with the DJD.
>>
>>6511642
He brings up pretty much all the usual complaints that anons here have with MMC, so I don't see the problem
>>
>>6511794

Outside of his unnatural lust for paint, I do kind of agree MMC fell off the wagon a bit recently. The DJD guys were good, Feral Rex was outstanding and still is one of the best 3P 'bots (even if mine has a bum Tantrum knee joint I still have to see if I can do anything about), Overlord was perfect, but the most recent stuff has been really fucking off base for them considering how good they are when they want to be. Shit, I don't even hate their Whirl or anything, I think it looks good and the mold is apparently good, but he needed to be more...Whirl-ey, if that makes any sense?
>>
>>6511642

>He does make some good points though.

>Fails to identify Sark as the common trend of lackluster stuff.
>Gets releases wrong.
>Bitches about repaints/remolds when they are exclusives.
>Doesn't talk about how cartoon Sphinx was made because of fan demand.
>Brushes over the factory issues and doesn't even touch on how bad the QC was on some of these.

It was rambling gibberish for the most part. The only good point he had was at the end when he said that he wants MMC stuff to feel top notch again, not just good enough. If you're going to make a discussion/educational video about a topic then at least do some research first so you don't come across as an utter moron. MMC does plenty of shit wrong but he barely touched on any of that.

Shit, even Whirl, while debatable on whether he works or not, is still clearly meant as an update of the Stormbringer design. Nothing was sacrificed for Obsidian.
>>
>>6511859
>is still clearly meant as an update of the Stormbringer design

The problem with monthly comics I think, is people don't notice gradual design changes unless they're specifically called to attention, Current Whirl's oddly thin and almost shiv-like look doesn't look like his past designs in the comics where he was blockier and heavier looking, but because thats the current design, thats the one people see as Whirl.
>>
>>6511642
Bobby should have did a little more homework on MMC before posting that. HOS Prime was their first release not shockwave. He should have also noted they were one of the first 3rd party companies to start producing figures. Its kinda sad for as long as they've been around their stuck in the shadow of companies that came after them in terms of quality.
>>
>>6511980
Lol, but Carnifex as a standalone is still the best figure of all time.
>>
>>6512002
Then why is it worse than the Takara Legends figure?
>>
>>6511980

I wouldn't say they're stuck in the shadow at all. They were pretty good from Hexatron to Carnifex. After Carnifex is when we got to where we are today.
>>
>>6505891
It's pretty much the same. Things like the concave curve in the lower forearm are more shallow, and the beast chest is different because it's yet another part that's not fully visible on the drawing.

>>6506134
Same guy as OP. T-Beast is I think the little book he put out with the designs, but I can't type out the Japanese name in the image. Says twitter: kyoryu_kuramo

>>6506085
I know. TFGo gestalts really made me excited, but it's such a disappointment. It's the epitome of what we can consider [Transformers without Hasbro].
>>
>>6512006
I was onboard with this until they decided to glue in powermasters into his chest rather than leaving it open to store TMs

Takara has made a couple retarded mistakes with TR toys like that. They glues Fort Max's legs shut and made basically any fan mode impossible.
>>
>>6512020
I'm more surprised that no one's released the PM emblems that are compatible with TM's. I already have a few Ominous I bought so I could have Giga, and Mega for the chest gimmick, and one Ominous stuck with the Overlord face.
>>
>>6512024
That's actually what I thought takara was going to do, just make titan masters with faceplates resembling powermaster engines rather than actual faces.
>>
>>6512026
Same, I got the Ominous after I saw their attempt. I'd rather have the chest emblems be optional since I actually like sticking TM's in there.

Got a pair of I-Gear Mini Warriors.
MW-03 Hench and MW-04 UFO

Those two look amazing and are a blast to fiddle with. I really love the fact that you can give Not-Brawn his G1 toy look. Also, Not-Cosmos look like a bad-ass bruiser with his proportions and that mean face... all undermined by that adorable Silver Age bubble space helmet!

I gave them their Autobots labels and I improvised a "belt" with leftover repros on Not-Brawn to give him an even more G1 look.

>>

I used them for getting Quakeblast Black ver.
>>
>>6512259
Which is why I would also be okay with an upscaled KO of the T30 one like they've been doing with the other legends figures. There are just some small details I like about it, like the red, 3-fingered hands and the fin-shoulders that I would like to see.

But no, instead we get two copypastas of the G1 design. Lame-ass.
>>
>>6512006
They say opinions can't be wrong, but this sure is a shitty one
>>
>>6512006
>Worse

By what measure? Carnifex is bigger, masterfully made, amply painted, excellently articulated, comes with a ton of accessories, is an excellent likeness to the IDW design. He's pretty much perfect by every objective measure. The little playschool version is trying to be g1 which is an entirely different aesthetic anyway.
>>
>>6512296
There's one shitposter who claims every 3p tf is worse to whatever most recent official version exists regardless of how good the 3p is and how bad the official one is.

The same shitposter also writes novels about how takara devastator is better than every 3p combiner. He once told me that the deluxe chromedome was better than cupola and I nearly shit myself with laughter.
>>
>>6512269
Toy World has its size going for it, sure.

However I just can't get behind having the crotch and thighs as an entirely separate piece that does nothing else.

I picked up Gravity Builder after my collection began outscaling Green Giant and I can comfortably say it was a terrific upgrade. That's not to say he's without his own issues though. Gravity Builder's feet are a little sketch when it comes to posing him but stable enough to get what you need, they just look odd some times. His chest piece comes off super easily if you aren't careful. The combined mode head is a pain to transform.

Other than that he looks fantastic, articulates well and has just the right amount of detail for my tastes. With the exception of the chest piece he doesn't even need to partsform to combine, since the forearms can remain attached to Scavenger and Bonecrusher through all three modes.
>>
>>6512306

That's right, I keep meaning to pick him up. The knockoff is apparently cheaper and indistinguishable, right?
>>
>>6512320

>>6512315
As I've just recently picked up my Yellow Giant, so I'm content to sit on him and enjoy what he has to offer for the meantime. But I definitely would go for GB over Constructor if I were to embiggen.
>>

>Maketoys is running their own sale, but I think it's set to end on/after Monday
Fuck. I've been meaning to pick up their 99.99 Despotron. I still can't decide, though...
>>
>>6512398
I'll give the same answer -- you should. I already decided to go for MP36, so that's my lot, but with the sale so far I've gotten their Visualizers and Quantron. I waited a bit too long on Downbeat before he went OOS, but I still have my eye on Wrestle -- he'd round out my trio of my current MP Artfire and MMC Backdraft. I don't even have connection to these characters, it's just keeping my shelves added upon.
>>
>>6512426
I want to, but I always want to wait for a Marvel comics recolor of Megatron, mostly because I just find anything Geewun to be entirely boring nowadays.

Is it certain that the good price on Despotron ends on Monday?
>>
>>6512320
Does the KO Cupola have the replacement parts/non-fucky ankles?
>>
>>6512440
The sale for him is part of their “Half-Decade Deals,“ which don't have any listed end date, but all the other sales that we are later are slated for the 4th.

>>6512458
No, you would still need to order those from Maketoys, they'll cost you $6. I bought the YesModel version, and the kit parts basically went in fine - one of the screws on his back was nearly stripped so I almost wasn't able to replace the ratchet there.
>>
>>6512012
And it's not even like they're lagging behind either. They still do have some great stuff coming from them (their Roadbust/Strika/Bulkhead is great) but they've also been putting out some duds as well, much more than they used to. Most of it seems to be that nobody is cleaning up Sark's bullshit designs on a lot of newer stuff, with the figures at least being solid outside of designs, but then we also have shit like the Jeagertron mold which just fails on most fronts.

MMC is still petty up their in rank but they're hitting a rough patch these days.

Despotron is a FANTASTIC figure. And for a pseudo MP Megs, he's actually FUN and EASY to transform. Sure, he's not 100% cartoon accurate, but he's awesome looking anyway and we could tell he's "comics" accurate. Bought it on Maketoy's sale without regrets. Especially because the shipping is also dirt cheap AND you can have nice bonus loose items at check out. Like YOTS Omega Supreme upgrade kit for 20$ instead of 120$.

This didn't stop me from preordering MP-36 reissue though. With shipping, he'll only be around 260$CAN! I'm sure to pay 30$CAN more in customs but eh... Now to wait until January...

Perfect Effect is doing updated takes on BW's endgame Primal and Megs. Generation Toy, as in the OP, is taking some guy's art based on turning G1 characters and some others into animals and making it a line.

So I'm considering a new Prime to go with the MMC Tyrantron, a friend is offering me a Toyword Orion for a super nice price, but I had been considering Manus. My only trepidation about Striker Manus was that his vehicle is a little more scifi/Cybertronian than I'd like.
Orion looks good to me and even the red plastic doesn't seem an issue to my eyes.

My problem is that I know he's not as poseable as Manus but I can't seem to find many photos of Orion in anything but a stock still pose.
