Favorite Karzahni form?

His first one (black and gold) was pretty cool, but I find it was slightly cliched. His second one (green and blue) had an original and non edgy color scheme and still looked very intimidating. His third one (set form) felt half-assed to me so I never bought him.

All this because I want to build a G2 Karzahni and I really like Umarak (and he slightly reminds me of Karzahni's second form), but I don't know if I should reuse Umarak as a base for him or if I should use Umarak for something else and build a black and gold Karzahni out of scratch.

Yes it could. The joint strength of hinge plates seems to wildly vary from piece-to-piece. So with 4 really strong joints it could be viable. Still though, it's not a connection I'd personally use for anything other than elbows.

It was a life-sized mask competition. Of course the prize wouldn't go to a poorfag with a small selection of pieces or with little more than basic system elements.
Normally, I'd call this LEGO rewarding it's loyal customers, but there were many great and expensive builds that ate shit and nothing more. I don't know the winners and I've no grudge with them, but I don't think they deserved first place. Also, I thought colabs and team efforts weren't allowed.

Look at other MOCs with skirts. Take inspiration.

Although, if you think of Bara Manga as post apocalyptic, the fact that they have to resort to super primitive weapons because of ammo shortages but they still have cars lying around, it's not that far fetched.

I just wish that the vehicles were more important, and we got a society where everyone settled shit through death races as opposed to gladiator matches.

Imagine if playsets came back with a set that had Tuma riding a huge oil tanker and his Skrall riding little motorcycles.

And surely next year is going to reveal something about Makuta given his mask is the focus.

Are the Toa going to visit where the Great Cataclysm took place? Are they returning to the Ancient City? And is Umarak's box art part of the Jungle Region or is it something else entirely?

Although it was an awkward set, I quite liked his broadness and the head they created out of Pridak's feet. So I'm gonna say that.

Also, I hated that his mask was retconned into being an ordinary mask that just happened to look like 4 different ones fused together. Would have been cool if it had 4 different mask powers, but they worked slightly erratically and malfunctioned every so often. Would highlight the fact that he's a fuckup craftsman compared to his rival, Artahka.

You mean a map mask. Like, Ekimu wanted to sketch a map, but he didn't have a napkin handy, so he made a mask and scratched the map on it with a nail one quiet morning. Then the Mask Burglar broke into his forge and coincidentially stole this mask out of all the others. The toa must find the Mask Burglar and pry the mask off his face. yknow, it doesn't look awful. The kopaka eye is integrated well, and the connections for the pohatu flanges are smooth. But the gold looks kind of chunky--although its tough to tell with such a poor quality photo. But the general positioning of the additional parts looks--not sloppy, because you've obviously put a lot of effort into getting them symmetrical--kind of thoughtless? The pohatu parts stick out too far, I think, making it more obvious that they've been added it. Still, this is easily the best-done heresy I've seen.

I've got an interesting theory about the 2016 storyline. It gets weird, but bear with me.
Here's the key support:

>the theme for 2016 is "Unity"
Just like 2015's was "Duty," and 2017's will probably be "Destiny."
>The overall g2 storyline seems to mirror the g1 storyline
ie. they Toa arrive, have a villager meet-n-greet, go mask-hunting, get masks, and so on.
>G2's writers have a boner for Golden Age adventure fiction
Especially Burroughs. Dudes arrive in a mysterious location, find they have powers that set them apart from the natives, and go do the Thing of Destiny. The imagery is laden with stuff like planets visible in the night sky, ancient civilizations, skeleton/creepy monster fighting, ARENAS, etc. The fast-paced writing with an emphasis on "what happens" rather than "who it happens to" and somewhat florid prose are a bit more tenuous, but still there.
>Final line of 2015's animations is "their true fate was still waiting deep inside the darkness."
The diction used hints that this may not be a metaphorical darkness they're talking about (were that the case one might expect it to go along the lines of "their fate still lay hidden within/by the darkness.")

If the G2 storyline truly mirrors that of G1's (albeit sped up), then the Toa are going somewhere new for 2016.
Most people assume that this means the Toa are traveling to a new island, or exploring the Ancient City, but I don't necessarily believe that to be the case.
Firstly, the Ancient City was pretty much played-out in the Skelly Saga. The Toa traveled all through that sumbitch and, frankly, it was pretty damn boring.

'Sup /biog/? I come to you bearing an... interesting theory or a collection of them regarding the use of masks in gen 2, because, as of now, there's a lot we don't know about them. Well this aims to tie up a few loose ends on how exactly the masks work.

What if the masks stop the villagers from aging? They provide them with no actual energy, but instead keep their life force from leaking out of them, which keeps them how they are for however long they have on the mask. More powerful masks provide actual energy, and this energy is increased the stronger the mask is. However, the more power in the mask, the harder the shock is when they’re removed. The villagers only have strong enough bodies to support the life preserving masks, but when they lose those, skull spiders go to feed on the leaking energy that the mask kept in, until the host is powerless, allowing the spiders to take full control and use its own energy to fuel the body. The skellies have these masks as well, and use them to keep in the dark energy Grinder gave them. Skull slicer on the other hand, is an example of what happens when a skull spider gets full control.
Toa however, have the golden masks, but when those are removed, they become weaker and weaker due to the sudden drop in power input. The skeletons draining these masks quickens this process. But that’s not it. No, when they were fighting Kulta and he knocked their masks off, they were all very, very weak. That’s because their bodies were used to taking in the golden mask’s power and the drop was absolutely crippling. Also, if you’ll remember back to when they first got their masks, the narrator said they were covered in their element. That was simply the shock of the new amount of power, and their bodies getting used to it, which also allowed for a massive boost in the power they could use. Because they already had their elemental power flowing out of them.

Moving onto the mask makers, we saw what happened with Ekimu, he lost his mask and BAM he was out cold for a long ass time. Not fun stuff. The only reason he survived was because the burial mask kept the small amount of energy inside of him, and when the Toa hit him with elemental powers, it gave him a bit of a recharge, making him awaken. The MoUP is MUCH more powerful than the brother’s legendary masks, so when that was put on, the raw power mutated the host due to the power output. This power output was so great, not only does it leak out of the mask (the flames around it), but when it’s knocked off, it doesn’t stop feeding power and that power destroys fucking everything.

Now I'm not done, there's actually a way this theory could tie into 2016. The golden uniter masks (which were confirmed to be necessary for uniting) are used as a bit of a transfer point, that adds the creature's elemental power to the toa's. With the normal mask, you just have a creature on your back. and that's kinda useless.

There's a bit more to this regarding the Toa's origins, but that's the end of the main theory.

the Metru Nui Saga was an extended Katabasis; the journey (literally) downward and (figuratively-but-also-literally-in-this-case) inward for the Heroes. It was also a tonal shift from the Toa being agents of order within natural chaos to the Toa being agents of chaos within stagnant order.

If G2 is to mirror G1's progression, it will need a similar downward/inward journey for the heroes.
For the Katabasis-dyad to be complete, the journey must be to the starting point's antithesis.
Since the Toa are starting from the surface-space of stagnation/order/death, their travels must therefore take them to an /inner/-space of renewal/chaos/life.
Ergo, the setting will be a motherfucking subterranean wilderness of awesomeness and also David Innes and/or John Carter perhaps.

Moving on to how (I think) the toa may have been created.
I think the toa were once villagers who tried to wear masks of more than one element out of curiosity, and as a result, were mutated into much larger forms, much like how Makuta was changed when he put on the MoUP. But because these masks are much weaker than the mask of ultimate power, they still kept their sanity, but barely. Ekimu saw these massive ass beings, and their potential to be saviors if needed. So he sent them off to train on separate planets in the hopes they could come back and whup absolute ass when the stars aligned and the toa were sent back (the stars were SUPPOSED to align when their training is done) while also hiding the Golden Masks in case some moron wanted them to do god knows what. However, Ekimu was the only one who knew of how to summon them in the case of an emergency (A.K.A, him dying), and so he created the Prophecy of Heroes, to tell others how the heck to summon them early, and where to go to find their main masks. This is why the Toa carry memories of Ekimu, but also how he can communicate with the toa (a nice added feature he put in before hiding the masks in case the protectors were dumbasses and couldn’t tell the toa where to go.), and why the sacred law of “Don’t make a mask have too much power” was made, because he saw what happened to the Toa-to-be, and the potential damage that could have been caused if it happened again.
Fast forward to Ekimu and Makuta being K.O’d. Makuta still had that lust for power, and so, he took control of the skull spider hoards to bring him the golden masks, due to each one being a potential component of a new MoUP. And so, the toa are summoned, but the vahi generated time shift makes them lose their memories. This is why they’re basically hella buff babies, instead of half competent warriors. Back in the day I started by mostly doing pallete/shell swaps. Add a few little unique bits onto the basic frame and you have a decent moc for a first try. Theres no need to attempt custom torso and limb designs if you are new. If you do though, I would suggest simply looking at designs from official titan sets anyway.

As mentioned above, the idea of the mask wasn't exactly mine, I should have mentioned that. I liked the concept of the Kanohi Nui tho and figured I'd build my own.
