Song was neat, battle sequences were neat (although the mechs still look like asshole), settings were neat... but the design for all of the characters, both in clothing and overall animoo look, is just atrocious. Macross plus is what they should be mimmicking, not the modern anime garbage styles.

A 2015 anime shouldn't be following the same stupid standards we've had for the past 10 years when it's all garbage. A lot of the gundam OVAs and other standalone animes don't do this, it isn't impossible for a new macross series not to do it as well. Especially when the character design/overall animation was better in 1994.

Right now hi-metal is shaping up to be the most interesting line. All the releases have been great so far and the future looks VERY bright with several unusual and enemy mecha on the table.

I was kind of hoping for a new design scheme from Frontier, not more of the same. I don't even dislike Frontier's designs, but each macross kind of had it's own identity when it came to designs, besides Seven sharing stuff from Plus.

Yeah, Bandai Macross preorders can be hell to secure. On the upside, all the recent releases have had pretty good amounts of stock upon release. Even the super popular VF-19 Advance had some healthy restocks.

That's not a fair comparison. The DX Mazingers were covered in removable parts. Like >>5258857 is pointing out, the transformation will probably be a little tedious due to the size but that shouldn't impair any of the modes in any way once fully transformed.

Built-in intake covers might have been possible at 1/35 scale but it looks like they've gone with boring old removable parts. Oh well can't have everything.
