Weekly challenge?

More like "weakly challenge."

Last challenge sucked anyway, unless someone's been taking longer than a day to work on their submission. Then, by all means, take your time and submit when ready.

I, for one, am excitedly preparing to meet this request.

Okay, here's a question.
How do you make your collection feel like a cohesive "world" rather than just a smattering of loose models sitting on a shelf?

Because not everybody has the space or money for fuckhuge displays like image related.
>>
>>4260867
simple answer: I don't.
>>
>>4260867
I add small detail.

For example, I have a small Battle of Geonosis display with a Republic Gunship, a Spider Droid and a bunch of Clone Troopers, droids and jedi

I've built small (really small, like 20 pieces a piece) "Rocks" and other kinda terrain bits I've spread over the shelf. I've also built a small stand in mostly trans pieces so the gunship looks like it's hovering, I've also displayed them "actiony" with Clone Troopers fighting at close-range, Jedis slashing apart droids, Clones teabagging a Droid etc etc
>>

>>
>>4260883
It's ok, we've just had a lot of sub-par OPs in the past week or two. Just lurk more before starting a thread.
>>
Bricks and Pieces on lego.com is awesome in case any of you haven't tried it before. You can order (almost) any piece currently in production including a lot of exclusive minifigure parts. Plus they allow you to search by part number or by set number.

I just ordered a bunch of the puking faces from the Mixer set, for instance. Plus a bunch of other cool stuff like a Dalmatian for my modular Fire House. It's flat rate $2.99 for shipping too, which is funny because you'll pay a minimum of $4.99 if you order from Pick-a-Brick on the same site...and that has a very limited selection.

The only small problem is that you don't see the prices until they send you the email estimate and then you have to call in the order to pay.

It's worth it though man...I dare say it's better than Bricklink in some cases.
>>
>>4260924
All these angry hippies and I just want to know what sets they're going to make.
>>
OP do a favor and just delete this thread and let the right person make it this time and from now on.
>>
>>4261106
There's a time limit on when you can delete posts, you know.
>>
>>4261092
Wait how do you do this? I can only go on pick a brick...
>>
Not OP, but I think it's retarded to keep posting in a thread after it has reached the bump limit. That just makes the thread too inclusive and doesn't garner any posts from those just browsing /toy/.

Once bump limit is reached, a new general should be made.
>>
>>4261112

>>
>>4261117
Lurk more. You do that, and you have like 5 Lego generals in the catalog at once.
It works with other topics on /toy/ because those threads are slower, but the Lego generals are pretty fast.
It's not that hard to use the catalog, you know. There's even a search bar, ffs.
>>
>>4261092

>>4261112

On the front page, click on "missing pieces" under the customer service heading near the bottom of the page.

It'll ask your age and what country you're in, then on the next page it'll have four options. The first one is the option to buy a piece.

The next page will let you choose between the regular crappy pick-a-brick section and the other option is the Bricks and Pieces. Select this.

You'll then have the option of typing in a set number and viewing (almost) all the bricks in a set or typing in the part number of a piece. You can then add whatever brickd you want to your cart. If you want to add more bricks from a different set, click the "Add Another Box" button at the top of your cart and repeat the process.

When you're finished, hit "checkout". It will ask you for some info including your address and email. You aren't obligated to buy anything at this point, though, so don't worry about the fact you are checking out without knowing the price of anything.

In about 10 minutes, Lego will email you a list of everything you selected and here is where you'll see the prices of everything. If you decide you dont want to go through with it or if one of the pieces is too expensive for your taste, you dont have to do anything else. Just ignore the email and move on.

If you find everything to your liking, however, just call Lego and give the sales person the order number from the email. They'll make sure all the parts are in stock, they'll have you pay, and then you're done. You'll get your parts in a few weeks.
>>
>>4261147

>>
>>4261126

Everyone ITT needs to relax. The OP that originally set the Villains challenge neglected to put the start date next to it. This OP fucked up by not letting the old thread max out, but it's understandable that he'd think a new challenge was due. Besides, everyone should keep in mind that these challenges are just to get people creating with some goal, not a super cereal competition to be maintained with the upmost rigidity. Not to mention, using all of these posts to bitch and moan about OP (not to mention the quasi-related discussions in every thread that turn this place into a glorified chatroom) only add to the speed that these Generals move at because it ends up being only around 42% actual Lego discussion.

There's a lot of empty space on that box that isn't part of the mech. I guess the real question is who are the baddies gonna be? If you've read the neo classic space book "Building the future", which you SHOULD, the two baddies in those are worm like aliens, and the blacktron, who are mind raped by the aliens, and turned into their slaves, essentially. New Elementary commented on "A" minigure being in the set, so I'm going with the worms, as much as I'd love to see an official Neo-blacktron minifig.

The barrel can be subjective though to what you see it as its like the rcs thruster/megaphone part, ive use the barrel for engines and cannons jut fine.also they changed the hand part to a parabolic ring which should be sturdier, the change might allow wrist movement if its using the new reverse bowl too!

Click on anyone who sells like the fantastic four or thing sets. Look through their items. You're looking for a set of 8 comic style Avengers figs. A search for 'superhero minifig' should also pull it up. Sheng Yuan makes them.

Separate head Hulk is great. So is everyone else in that set.

>>4262805
Most of the people I buy from ship quickly. I usually get them in about 10 days.

>>4262817
It is a great set but I had to swap out some heads. See my pic above.
>>
>>4262877
I really dont want to buy a bunch of other figs to get Hulk, specially if they are sheng yuan. And now that I know about it, I barely want to spend any money on hulk. Its hard enough to expect a good fig from decool, sheng yuan looks worse.
>>
>>426286its obviously from a wholesale catalog or similar, mocking up prelim or concept model isnt unusual.
>>
>>4262885
Well anon, it's gonna be $8 for 8 figures with free shipping or you might find that Hulk sold by itself for $5-$6, probably with shipping cost. You can make all sorts of great characters out of those other figures.

As for quality, Sheng Yuan has better printing and quality control than Decool overall (even though Decool does nice work compared to most other bootleg companies) and they even stopped using those weird backless legs they used to produce.

SY does excellent work. I've bought enough of these fucking things that I think SY is my favorite, even if Decool does different characters than everyone else. If that makes sense.
>>
>>4262700
>it's a bad quality photo so it should be real

>>4262891

>>
>>4262903
I bought the 3 hulk pack for like $3.25, but I haven't checked other figs.
>>
>>4262903

The pigments for Grey had a habit of yellowing and becoming fragile when exposed to extremities over time, not to the same extent as the mid-90s white pigments, but enough that lego decided to switch whilst there production of grey parts was quite low, at the end of the first Star Wars license

Considering that other places sells Lego at lower prices, one place I know even does it up to 30% cheaper, I just think it's a bit of a bad deal since the whole point system only amounts to about a 5% discount (actually a little less since, as I mentioned, you lose out on points by spending them).
You'd think that the Lego store, the store most affiliated with the Lego company itself, would have the lowest prices. I must not understand economics at all or something because it just doesn't make much sense. Feel free to enlighten me.

Please, do share.
As long as it's not one of those "credit card fraud money laundering" things.

A former actor who starred in a bunch of 80's style action packed films, think of him as a MacGyver/Jackie Chan hybrid who actually knew about his shit and did his own stunts.

Over time, the entertainment industry moved on and the guy eventually lost his job, now living at a junkyard, he wants people to notice him again.
Armed with the knowledge from his heyday, he builds a couple of drones with cameras who follow him around and he starts filming a reality TV show of sorts with Astor City as the stage.

Behind a wheel of a rebuilt muscle car, he drives around the city doing EXTREME stunts and defying the local authorities, causing lots of property damage in the process. They can't keep up with him, and that's where the Ultra Agents come.

Aesthetically it's supposed to be a tie-in with the Murrica challenge. I'm trying to come up with the vehicle but the fact that I can't make the minifig in first place has left me uninspired.

It's a danish site though, so if you don't live in Denmark, I guess it' not that useful. The discounts are mostly on sets that are not discontinued, but you can't get discontinued sets on the Lego store anyway so...
In any case, I've bought from them before and they've been fast and reliable.

Not everyone lives in Denmark. In the long run it seems buying from the LEGO store is cheaper than Target/TRU/etc in my area.

Probably because Decool is just a straight up Lego knockoff which at a passing glance might pass for the real thing, while Mega Bloks minifigs look noticeably different.

Mega Bloks ARE crappy though, compared to Lego. They've improved over the years but they still have a ways tog o.

Yeah, but MB is still an established company with their own properties, rather than an actual Lego knockoff. And those minifigs that are based on characters Lego hasn't touched yet? Those are knockoffs of of customizers' designs, which is even worse.

Not that I like MB.

These folks rent lego sets out. I got to play with a lot of cool sets I wouldn't have paid for so thats cool. Downside is they don't have a lot to choose from.

I love some superhero bootlegs and I have no problems with Mega Bloks. Their halo and bling bag superhero guys were pretty neat (though the straight up human faces like Cyclops, Thor or Halo marines look creepy as fuck).

I just like that Decool/SY dudes fit in with my lego superheroes.

Though superheroes is definitely not the only lego theme I collect/am interested in, I just love muh comixbook.

Mega Bloks seems to do some cool stuff though.

They sold really well at first then died. I think the problem is they're extremely limited to use for parts so collectors didn't need to get multiples.
>>
>>4263702
Yep, I've been really wishing the new CMF series would come out because, now that I have the Simpsons I wanted, there's no point in getting another. The accessories and parts are no where near as interesting as the other series', except Scratchy's tail. Speaking of, what would be the best dye for that flexible plastic? Vinyl dye like everything else?

That's because he is.

Also, BrikWars wants their art style back.
>>
>>4263671
On the one hand, I was hoping they'd do well enough to justify future licensed themes - 16 minifigs and one or two big sets.

On the other hand, those heads look really out of place and these characters do not lend themselves to army building in the slightest.

I live in Sweden, I feel you too, the LEGO Store is almost always the most expensive to buy from, thus I only buy from them when they have special offers (like the martian manhunter fig)

I also buy like 4 CMFs since they're the same everywhere then sell them off Ebay to spend less money on S@H

I think it's justified in TLG's case and those of artists like Nathan Sawaya, where the resulting creation is practically a sculpture already, and to take it apart would be a disservice to its fans. I don't think it would be a waste to any of the used pieces.

The Ferrel case is different, though, in that the layout is sure to continually expand and rearrange, and it would be an unwise decision to have any of its components permanently put together. Not even those who actually build those types of layouts would want to glue their models down.
>>
>>4264108
Completely unacceptable.

Well, maybe I could give it a pass if you use a tiny amount to give loose arms/legs some friction, but that's it.
>>
>>4264108
I tried to kragle a torso that had cracks on both sides all the way up to the armpits, but as soon as I put some legs on it, the cracks broke back open.

I even waited more than 24 hours. I guess the best way might be to put glue near the armpits, put the legs in, then compress it really tightly. I just didn't want to risk gluing the legs into the torso.
