Something seems fishy. I got out of the Japanese figure game for a while and now all the figures I used to buy are 30% to 50% more than they used to be.
Was the progression like:
>yen super devalues until it's 125 yen to a dollar
>figure prices raise to compensate
>yen gains a bunch of value back
>figure prices stay raised
? Or was there some other factor and I don't know how the economy works? How are you guys dealing with this? I can still afford the figures, but it feels rough.
I thought this image was apt considering Saitama is a regular sized human that seems to come with only one accessory that would have been 3000 yen 3 years ago.
Basically exactly what you described. The yen only started doing well against the dollar semi-recently, so the price hikes are extra harsh now. Whether or not they'll come back down is the question (the answer is no).
>>6286397
That's not what happened. What happened was:
1. Japan prints yen because they want dollar to be stronger to increase exports.
2. Factory prices for toy manufacturers were already locked in prior to this.
3. We get tons of cheap as fuck toys for a while before factory prices are up for re-negotiation.
4. Weak yen, strong yuan and raising costs in China in general make newly re-negotiated factory prices go way the fuck up. This continues to happen in several phases until the current day prices.
5. Yen gains some strength back due to weakening dollar but the new crappier contracts are still in place and will continue to be in place. Japan does NOT want the yen to get stronger so toy prices will never drop back down to where they were. The only thing that will drop prices is if the dollar gains strength.
Prices will only get worse from here. There are other factors as well such as supply/demand. The less units that are sold the higher prices have to be to compensate, they become luxury items for high end collectors. Average collector in Japan can't afford toys that are double or triple the cost they used to be and they are the main market for most this stuff. They can try to cater more to a global audience but that only stems the bleeding a bit.

I might have to rethink starting this hobby up again.
similar thread is up but past bump limit, so why not?
Probably never get one, but I need a Peggy Carter to match the dozen Caps we've received.
A comic version of Mantis (classic or Annihilation era) would be dope

Hey everyone just looking for a cleaner easier way to display them on my shelf. The self has 4 steps to it and each can hold 15 to 16 characters.
you know this board is for toys right?

Why are funko pops here?
Did this board ever pressure you into buying a toy you didn't really want, just because you saw everyone else and it looked cool?
When I first got into collecting, I frequented here a lot, and I bought many Transformers, ML, and NECA that I didn't really care about just because I saw they were talked about and popular.
Anyone else get tricked into buying meme of the month just due to exposure?
>>6285515
lol
No because I'm not a fucking loser.
>>6285515
It's only peer pressure if you give in.
Do I need this for my, dare I say it, space opera collectarino?

The Marvel Legends one is really really good though. Face sculpt and paint job are top notch. I see literally no reason to get the more expensive version unless you're a brand-fag.

Where to buy
>GSC Online Shop - some figmas only are available through their online shop

>Hobby Search Japan - items stay in stock the longest
>Mandarake - search figma or フィグマ

The S shape is always good advice though. The basic idea is that straight lines tend to look stiff.

Has anybody made a 3rd party head for saitama?
ITT: God Tier Toys Only
Were they worth it?
>>6283654
Mmmmmmm,..for the most part I think. I don't know.
The sculpt is very nice and they'll make great display pieces, but the articulation is pretty lackluster. I probably only should have got the one, but oh well. Stone troll is still sealed so maybe I'll resell him some day.
They'll definitely make great giants for my 1/18 guys though.
>>6283666
I don't personally have any to compare it to, but here they are next to ML's own figures.
ITT: Things only you have on display

op here, you are wrong. I have two whole shelves of bonkle/HF
For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Did I T H I N my paint properly? Image file size is intentionally large so you can scrutinize my first time at hand painting. This is just a rough work prior to cleaning up the piece so it is rather painted shoddily. The main point of interest is the leg piece at the middle.

That's a nice spaceship OP. What line is it from?
This time properly named so people can find it edition.
Old thread: >>6262877
Tarn olev Kaon but does he know Kaon olev Vos?
I got the first of those ko constricons in the mail today. He's actually really nice, nicer than I was expecting. The only real issue is that his mid thigh transformation joint is pretty loose, but that'll be super simple to fix. Although he can pose perfectly fine in bot mode with it and once you plug his gun in his dozer mode is rock solid. Beyond that his plastic is a little light weight, but doesn't feel fragile and his wheels are hollow. Definitely going to pick up however many more they put out.
>>6279807
Anybody know if this glorious gaudy bastard comes with the different colored eye options like the original Grinder? What about the new parts for the other dinobots?
I haven't watched the movie but can someone tell me the context of the scene where we see Vin Diesel and friends getting flipped off the hoods of their cars?
>>6279475
They did it in like the 4th or 5th movie.
Am I crazy for thinking these are kinda cool? Nice to see they're even making Brian, though I'd have preferred he had a Skyline.
>>6279751
Yeah sure. They aren't bad as far as Mattel gimmick-toys are, because you actually can stick the driver in the car, it's a simple but effective gimmick.
I just don't understand why they would use their cars as launchpads though
what went wrong?
Stickers + weird feet. Good otherwise.
Nothing - except maybe losing the ax. He is the beautifully stupid testament to '80s giant robot design he's always been. His jet is an incoherent brick because FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY, HE DON'T GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIT.
Paintwork's pretty bad too from all the pieces i've seen in-package.
