I have a really stupid question. When I was a kid I never wanted the figures they showed- I always loved the sets. In particular, I always liked those clear cubes the villain was always getting trashed by. For example:

https://youtu.be/l1rSm-hyV18

Where the heck can I get me some transparent cubes? I keep getting display cases and clear rubix cubes on google and Amazon. Any ideas?

Aren't the clear cubes in that particular commercial supposed to represent ice?

Where to buy
>GSC Online Shop - some figmas only are available through their online shop
>Amiami - usual place for buying, to some people, shipping is a bit higher due to packaging
>Hobby Link Japan shipping is usual lower, but their prices are a bit higher, private warehaouse is available
>Hobby Search Japan - items stay in stock the longest
>Mandarake - search figma or フィグマ
>eBay/Amazon - only if you hate having too much money. Avoid bootlegs, you can spot them as 'Chinese version'
>http://jungle-scs.co.jp/ - Seems like you can fine some good deals here

I found this 1/12 scale model Bettle for sale on eBay apparently made by a company called Jayland. I like the look of it a lot, but I can't find any reviews or other pictures. If anyone has this thing, can you tell me how it is? Also, do the doors and trunk and what not open, and if so how is the interior? Thank you!

Well, sorry to let you down, but it's pretty sad for a "toy" car. The seats are just rippled metal with no attempt at form like the outside has. There's no legroom and the steering wheel is about where a torso should be, but nevermind that because nothing opens. You might be able to cram the top half of a figma in there through the windows if you were desperate enough.

i want to become a toy maker...

-industrial designer
-sculpting 5/10
-3d modelling 3/10
-access to FDM 3d printer - yes
-access to SLA or SLA yes
-post processing, almost.
- materials available for low run production: wood, only a couple of rubbers, and couple fragile resins (protoindustrial third world shithole)
also a very low budget to start with.

Hey, it's pretty hard to make a living as a toy maker unless you get popular in the urban toy scene.
You can have an Etsy store and sell little figures of established franchises, in small limited pieces to avoid lawsuits.

For me I love chibi really well sculpted stuff. If I could afford I'd get bunches. Also love keshi, so shit like this >>6436176 is very much my thing.
I have no idea how well does that sell.

Frame Arms Group Build

This time the idea is to build any Frame Arms, or Frame Arms Girl kit, and paint and customize it.

The rules are overall pretty simple, the base must be recognizable as FA or FA Girl, other than that there's no limit on what you can do.

Due Date: September 1st

Note: This is a prize build, there will be a prize provided by me, there will also be a mystery prize provided by another anon. That means that to enter, I need WIP pictures submitted before the due date. Simply email me some pictures of you working on it, I don't care at what point, as long as it's possible to tell where your final product came from.

Prize Pack:
MSG Free Style Bazooka
MSG Impact Knuckle
MSG Beast Sword
MSG Assault Rifle #2
Miscellaneous supplies

I'm probably going to add more, but I'll let those be a secret.

Email: [email protected]

I'm also available via IRC and Steam

So, Summer WonFes has come and gone and with it came new additions to the Polynian family line. We saw the colored prototype for our Russian Poly, Lanna. We also got to see the working prototype for Reimu and the new hand pack along with design cards for new Poly Alvin and some recolors. More importantly, we got confirmation on a new run of Shammy and Clover! Shammy and Clover 2.0 will feature more accessories and will be more in line with the Polynian's we have out today.

In figure news, Emil's feminization kit has been released and is in low stock at HLJ and back-ordered over at Amiami. Vania is scheduled to be released this month as well, unless there's a delay (hopefully not). And according to Daibadi, pre-orders for Lanna should start soon, so get ready for that.

Anywho, what got you the most excited? Was there anything you wanted to see? Who do you plan on getting? Do you have any Poly's on PO?

Finally, welcome newcomers, we hope you enjoy your stay.

Do you have a preference for your figures? Do you find yourself ending up with more female than male figures? Or ones that all follow a common theme? I was going through my collection and I have a random assortment of female figures from various lines I don't even collect- I just thought they looked cool

I mostly collect articulated stuff. I especially like anything robotic so I have stuff from mecha musume to daibadi to gundam, but I still have some stuff that breaks the mold. Right now I think the gender amount among my figures is about 50/50, but I prefer males.

I always wanted to start creating some bjds of decent quality and maybe even experiment with sfds. I do have a good amount of experience with 3D sculpting, both traditionally and digital, but I'm not sure how to get my start with production. I know I could start out creating some cheap and crude hand-crafts, but I have no clue what tools I'd need or how expensive it'll be to create something of higher quality beyond that.
12 posts and 3 images submitted.

Before you do this, it's important to stop and consider the type of consumer you will be pandering to.

The vast majority of BJD hobbyists are petty entitled assholes at best, and cheapass thieves at worst.

If you make something the hobby doesn't immediately shit all over and then disregard, they will expect you to bend over backwards to cater specifically to them. Be prepared for an outrageous amount of customer service footwork. Constant hand-holding throughout the entire ordering process, as they expect constant updates, even if if it's only been 4 hours and they've commissioned a custom sculpture where the wait is 6 months. Or after the order has shipped to them, and you've given them the tracking number. I have had several clients email me, asking me to copy/paste the USPS tracking history for their parcel, just to make sure, tee-hee!

It's absolute hell. Unbearable, miserable hell. And it will break you like it broke me.

But if you really fucking want to do it, you can.

Just start sculpting first in the medium of your choice, then figure out the jointing. It's standard to sculpt something that isn't a hot mess first, then cut in the joints. If you're 3D printing and don't feel up to rendering joints, make the torso hollow, hack up your master, drill out the limbs, add in joints with epoxy.

When it's presentable, you can either try to cast it yourself, which is too much tl;dr for me to ever want to get in to, or use a casting service in Asia like Haru or Weiju toys. Be expected to pay roughly 5 grand for them to cast a full SD doll for you in a set of 10.

If you price it at 800 a doll, is the potential 3k "profit" off the casts really worth several months of tedious labor, shipping back and forth overseas out of your own pocket, and dealing with extremely needy customers on a 24/7 "a reply within 5 minutes or they open a PP claim" basis?

OP, it's not as nightmarish as you may get the impression from that anon who replied. There are a handful of very good BJD artists who do their work in 3D sculpting programs and then do produce wonderful physical versions of it, the ones who come to mind are Batchix and SiO2. The latter is a Chinese company and you can check out both their dolls and the prototype 3d models, the former is a Western artist you can probably easily chat with on instagram @batchix or tumblr @batchixdolls who is rather nice and would be happy to give you tips. Similar Western creators who might be willing to answer questions about this are Armeleia and Buffdolls (probably google will bring up their tumblr and instagram), though they don't produce full dolls, just parts. They have all been at their crafts for a decade or more and are well-respected and successful.

The pitfall of many creators, especially who work in 3D and try to create a physical doll from it, is inflexibility. Be open to feedback. Also, you can try posting over at the BJD general >>6465276, as you can see from the person who asked for crit yesterday and got quite a lot of detailed feedback, we're not assholes if you genuinely are receptive to feedback.

......Kayke, is that you? Kind of sounds like it. (Kayke was artist who created pic related, sent out non functional versions of it to people who preordered, and was mad when /bjd/ disapproved of her work and business ethic.) Your problem was that you accept money for prototype-quality flawed work, went immediately to the selling sculpt stage without a couple years (at least!) of learning and practice, and take feedback very poorly.

Oh, no, I don't have any intention of receiving commissions, I just want to make them for myself (and maybe sell pre-made stuff, but I'm not sure). Thank you for the info, I'll keep it in mind, especially if I do decide to sell.
