So other than daemon csm units like warp talons that can get buffed by daemons of the same alignment, is there any point in taking a mark of chaos on a unit that can't take an icon?

If not, could it mean that gw plans to make a daemonkin sort of deal where you get a bonus of all your units are KHORNE, TZEENTCH, etc?
>>
>>55430314
Uh, no? Khorne bezerkers and leviathans dreads are the only units that handles conscripts well, with DCA, Electropriests, and a few other things as distant runners ups.

The only thing they've got going for them is poxwalkers, which can kill a few and add to their numbers. But that's it

It wouldn't be too hard to fix up the codex's utility with a few judicious point chops, especially with Cyraxus -eventually- doubling our number of usable units. In like, three years or whatever.

I'm just sad that my Ruststalkers are beyond saving just by a point drop. They're slower, less reliable and don't have FNP anymore. I have fifteen!

C'mon man, I think the artwork is fine, but if you pay that much money for it, and remember, the artwork supposedly makes a good chunk of the book's price, then you can at least expect them to put decent artwork in it, therefore, complaining about it is perfectly acceptable. That's exactly how it works. What is your interpretation of it?

The sequence should be as follows:

1. Enemy declares a charge on your unit
2. You declare which units use For the Greater Good within 6" of the unit targeted by the charge.
3. Resolve all your overwatches.
4. Enemy is dead hopefully
5. The units that assisted with For the Greater Good can no longer fire any overwatch this phase. The unit that was targeted by the charge can however, so long as it didn't end up getting involved in a melee combat.

Only with the grenade stratagem. Poxwalkers are the only way Death Guard has of reliably killing Conscripts without employing stratagems. Other than those two, the army is way too elite to work through such massive units. I mean, I guess you could use a Psyker with Plague Wind as well, but even that drops in effectiveness once the Conscripts units get smaller and smaller.

Enginseer all the way. Don't really need the extra 100pts of stuff when there's a 20" diameter bubble of Cawl nonsense sitting there, and the Enginseer fixes Crawlers as well as the Dominus does. I was thinking of finishing my two standard Domini and my Cawl conversion and then making a "command staff" of three Enginseers (two Battallions) and a bunch of converted Mechanicus Assassins as Skitarii Primus. No idea where I'd get all those enginseer models without paying a zillion pounds, though. I'm Biologis, so maybe the Solar Auxilia Medicae with a few augments and minus the aquilas.

So my CSM renegades have 10 marines to split between various chapters. What cunts can I add? Was thinking of having at least a single Marine Malevolent that nobody in the squad likes but they don't fuck with him cause he holds the squad flamer.

On the list are 2 extra-grumpy Steel Brethren, 2 or 3 Damned Company of Lord Caustos and perhaps a Purge marine nicknamed Mr Stinky.

Been thinking about how to use ruststalkers, because the models are so cool and I don't want to just leave them on the shelf. I think they could be useful, but you need to invest a few CP (and hope for a bit of luck) to pull it off.
>10 ruststalkers
>infiltrate with stygies VIII stratagem (1 CP)
>pray to the omnissiah that you get the first turn
>charge hopefully at something better than a cheap bubblewrap unit
>activate skitarii +1 to hit in melee stratagem (1 CP)
>31 attacks, mortal wounds on a 5 or 6 to hit
>10.33 mortal wounds with blades, 13.66 mortal wounds with razor + claw (plus any other damage from non-MW hits)
I mean, that sounds dangerous, if you can pull it off. Obviously, lots of ways it can go wrong though.

Electro-priests with staves can a similar trick, and are much more resilient if it goes wrong, but they have fewer attacks and can't benefit from the skitarii stratagem - by my maths 10 of them do 6.66 mortal wounds with this trick. Still respectable, but not the specular ~14 mortal wound nuking the ruststalkers can manage.

This is where someone crushes my dreams by saying in the codex ruststalkers only do mortal wounds on a 6, not a 6+, isn't it?

The rusties do Mortal Wounds on 6+ To Wound, not 6+ To Hit, so the Skitarii strat isn't quite the massive damage spike it looks. Still, probably not a terrible idea since that's a fairly cheap 20 wound block sitting on top of something expensive.
Personally I'm using 20 Fulgurites for that trick since they get a 3++ out of it, but they're way more expensive and don't like morale losses.

Cute Nurgling for attention.

Anyone think that Poxwalkers are pretty bad? After the Chaos codex, I expected them to get a points drop, but they didn't. Before it was 5 for cultist, 8 for Plaguebearers. Now its 4 for cultist and 7 for Plaguebearer. Where does that leave Poxwalkers at 6?

If you really want chaff, go for cultists. If you want something reliable and straight up better in many ways, for 1 point more get plaguebearers.

To make poxwalkers good you need to buff them for speed, you need to have typhus buffing them or cast spells on them. Even then they don't become amazing. I feel like going 'elite' with my Death Guard and setting aside a few hundred points for summoning some plaguebearers, drones or whatever. Nurgle Daemons seem cool.

Poxwalkers don't take morale tests, which is a massive bonus, as any Conscript-spamming faggot can attest to. By comparison, kill 15 Cultists and 10 more run away.
They also have 2 attacks each which, with a bit of buffing, can actually be pretty decent and they can replenish the few losses they do take by munching on those Conscripts everyone struggles with. They're pretty much like Zombies in AoS: Terrible on their own, incredible when supported correctly.

The Doom of Hesp Vectoriums of the 4th and 7th engage the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Lotan amidst the steaming jungles of Hesp. When the swarms deploy Toxicrenes and Venomthropes to poison the environment, the Death Guard respond with plague spells, virus bombs and daemonic diseases. With neither side willing to back down, the atmosphere of Hesp becomes ever more toxic until the jungles, and even the warring armies, are reduced to a gory, bubbling soup. The first Tyranid hive ship to taste this poisoned slurry recoils, its proboscis melting, and is bombarded into oblivion by the rest of its fleet. There's a 30k Mech relic that does something like that. 12" haywire shot, but any vehicle that survives automatically hits itself and any other vehicles within 12" next turn, and so on and so forth until everything is smoking wrecks by the end of Turn 5.

A Death Guard trick like that would either be amazing (if it spread notably within the first few turns, which is all that 8e games tend to get through before someone's lost anyway) or terrible (if it could be outmaneuvered easily or takes ages to spread).

I had a game Friday that was fun. it was 2000 points, my Guard and Ministorum vs my friend's Eldar in an Open War Relic game where we didn't have to take morale, which was comfy for me. I had a melee oriented list with Conscripts, melee characters, Crusaders, lots of Bullgryn and transports. I ended up winning, but it was an obnoxious game because all my cool units got shot to death before getting the chance to do anything. So the whole game was basically just watching my stuff die or getting multi-charged by vehicles to limit my mobility.

My take away from the game was, I need more Scions and more artillery. That way I can blow things up and cause more distractions. Having a mass of units push the center where the objective was worked this time, but it only worked because my army was durable and took a lot of time to kill. It might have been a different story if the game didn't auto-end on turn 5, but that's Open War for you.

Survivor of the betrayal at Calth, interred in a Deredo afterwards and put in a new chapter created with veterans of the conflict, but is now the only survivor and therefore held in awe. I figure he'd be the official chapter master but leaves most of the actual work to his "aide", who serves as the unofficial leader of the chapter. I figure it's alright since FW decided to make the chapter master of the Red Scorpions interred in a Leviathan.

You can take a generic nurgle renegade CSM detachment and take a death guard detachment. They will synergizes with themselves but not each other, but you will still have a legal army due to faction keywords and each will have their chapter tactics.

I sorta will do this myself in a way. Have a bikerlord that's allowed in the Index, but if they phase them out like they did with AoS stuff recently in the V2 handbook, I'll move him to a separate patrol detachment so I can keep my chapter tactic.
>>
>>55432188

It was only a blob of 20 and a blob of 25, which are 135 points out of 2000, not exactly a "Conscript based list". They literally did nothing that game other than take mild fire and die. The list was more based around 9 Bullgryn, Crusaders and melee characters which just got shot to death.
>>
>>55432227

They don't synergize much at all. The Death Guard book bonuses specify <Death Guard> not <Nurgle>. Your army is legal but your characters aren't going to buff other detachments, etc.

I'm not a huge fan of Guilliman, but I really like the Ynnari and think the Great Rift is the best thing they could have done to make the setting more interesting. Huge Tyranid victory would have just left boring dead space in their wake. A massive Ork Waagh might have worked, but they're already everywhere. They just need to retake Armageddon and establish a stronghold there to be seen as a credible threat. On the other hand expanding the theater for Chaos from EoT/Maelstrom to everywhere has a great impact.

It's disappointing that Guilliman seems to have been able to just Ignore the issues of travel in the Imperium Nihilus, but I think that's a cool idea too, Rowboat aside.

Roombas are pretty nice, but you have to empty the bin out a lot if you have a lot of dust/dirt and/or you live in a large house. It's a nice extra helper around the house, but you can't really just leave it on and forget about it if you want it to be even remotely efficient.

I think you are missing the point of pox walkers.

They are highly resilient objsec infantry that are fearless and add to their ranks.

They are a nightmare to deal with and with strategems and two units you can get two zombies per kill.
