I'm really wondering about the balancing around characters and auras this edition. Not making characters targetable is one thing, but the units that should be killing them, snipers, are by and large incredibly shit. If you're lucky with your rolls and happen to be one of the factions that has halfway passable snipers (meaning Imperium) then maybe you can manage to kill that Commissar who's erasing all of the weaknesses of the Conscript blob he's parked behind or Malefic Lord who already made back twice his points cost by the time you get in range. Anything larger? Pucker up bucko, and welcome to Herohammer 40k.

Until I build up my Renegades and Heretics it's basically my armies sniper equivalent that's complicated to get off.
And after my Renegades and Heretics are built up it's still going to be my main source of killing characters because my LGS banned Forge World for any store tournaments.
Friendly games and campaigns they don't control you just have to ask opponent permission.
Which softens the blow but it's still sad that I can't use my Sonic Helbrute in the tournaments, most people let me use Forge World when I ask though since they know that A; Sonic Helbrute may be a better Helbrute for me but it's not OP and B; they know how shit R&H are.

Is there any way to give BoP tartaros termies any melee weapons other than claws, fists, and the one power sword you get in the box?
I just finished my choppy squad and my shooty squad is in the mail, I wanna give them all swords/mauls and combi plasma to keep the melee cheap, but the FW tartaros weapons kits don't fit the plastic dudes

Today I tossed 10 eversor assassins, 2 culexeus assassins, two ironclad dreadnoughts, a chaplain dreadnought, and a knight achron against the Thousand Sons and Magnus the Red.
Once again out of all the assassins it was one or two doing everything while the rest were unimpressive but the focus of the game was trying to kill Magnus. I came the second close to killing him since he was first released, reducing him to 4 wounds. Ahriman was killed by the efforts of 2 eversors.
I would have killed Magnus for certain, but I made a terrible mistake and let the hellforged leviathan dreadnought interrupt me in close combat, taking 8 wounds off the knight before it fought which it just couldn't recover from, even though it did manage to hack the thing in half in one phase.
Funnily enough it was the chaplain dreadnought that almost killed it. It did an extra 5 or so wounds after the FNP roll which brought Magnus down to 4, and if it had been killed in Magnus's retaliation it would have fought again, which just might have been enough to kill, but it was only reduced to one wound and then stabbed by a demon prince. In the last turn if both Eversors had managed to get their charges off, I might have finished Magnus with their death explosions, but alas only one charged in and failed to explode. It was a fun game though, the good kind of silly

Relic is a pretty solid choice amongst options for developing an RTS, and have a solid past record.

I'd call DoW3 the result of an executive's failed decision to claim a broader market appeal and also enter the lucrative e-sports world.

Really, GW themselves know their own market best. It would behoove them to tell each developer "this is our consumer base - they are niche, they are specialized, they like these things. Appeal to them in these areas and they will never stop hurling money at your product. Fail to appease them in these areas and your game will fail."

They're not in the codex but you can use their index statline and rules. It's probably a sign that GW is probably going to do away with them as an option since they don't have an official 40k model. Who knows, maybe they'll put five minutes of work into making one? Relic who made DoW1 and DoW2 is not the same Relic who made DoW3. Its really shocking how many people fail to understand this. A lot of the unique flavor that made DoW1 and DoW2 special, authentic even, was lost because the developers themselves were lost. It was a new team bringing in their own ideas of how to make an RTS for today, based on games that are available today or games that they grew up with from the past 10 years - long after the golden age of RTS ended.

This is basically why the game turned out a jumbled mess of concepts which was hammered into genericness for the sake of public consumption in its final development cycles. It has little to do with GW, and more to do with SEGA giving the property one more chance to see if it can make money as a AAA title by giving the franchise to nuRelic which needed more experience.

As someone plays and enjoys DoW3, I still say the entire problem has blown up by loads of people who haven't even played the game and are just triggering themselves over the word "MOBA."

The game has flaws, but they are rarely listed by anyone who calls the game "shit." The update that added in classic RTS gameplay and buildable turrets went a massive ways towards making skirmishes enjoyable again, no power core/shield generator bullshit. I think it is still lacking content in way of factions and units, but that isn't a deal-breaker here.

Personally, by biggest issue is with the survivability of regular units, particularly lower tier ones like tactical marines and banshees. The resource rate is extremely slow, so you have a lot of time to fight with and baby individual squads, and with the return of the Reinforce option, you are rewarded for preserving squads instead of massive new ones.

Yet they units die in a fucking heartbeat. There literally isn't a point to the Reinforce option because nothing will ever last long enough to use it, and combined with the slow as balls resource rate that means too much downtime and heavy advantages for whoever kills off their opponents units faster, since they can push and win almost guaranteed at that point.

Heroes come in all sorts of power levels, commanders being weaker than their DoW2 counterparts and the ven dread/knights etc. being much stronger, and they also contribute towards the above problem with regular units. Heroes are free to buy, and even though they aren't juggernauts of destruction, a few well-played abilities will swing fights instantly. And God-forbid, those super-abilities that cannot be turned off in game options will wipe whole armies, absolutely stalling gameplay with nofun.

Those are the real problems with DoW3. Fortunately, the devs said they are considering vastly (+50% hp even) improving unit survivability. It's mostly long-term balance with upgrades and such they are working out.

The key shit should have their speed mitigated. Plague Marines really need rhinos and Grave Wardens (fuck the new name) have their teleportation. Sadly I think Pox Walkers and Death Shroud are a scrub trap. They're too expensive and slow compared to more efficient options. The simple shit seems like it will perform.

Good. They're an elite army average out with cheap blobs. I'd ignore terminators altogether, as they exacerbate the problem of the death guard and have a low special weapon rate (which is what you really want).

The real strength comes from the battle forged bonuses. The first one let's them rapid fire weapons an extra 6" - boltguns, plasma, sure but I haven't seen anyone mention yet that this applies to cultists with autoguns - at 4 points a piece, and it should. This same rule also lets cultists move and fire heavy stubbers without penalty, and plague marines to run and fire assault weapons without penalty.

The second rule is basically objective secured from 7th edition, in that it gives death guard troops units control of an objective regardless of whether they have more models on it.

This rule can be canceled out by other units with similar rules, but it's good to have on durable units like plague marines and pox walkers.
