Interesting. What would you consider the big differences to be? I suppose a Crusader is defined by the fact that he comes from elsewhere, and is engaged in a form of conflict that is distinctly religious in contrast to a secular war, while a Saracen is usually depicted on his home turf, and follows a philosophy where religion and secular authority are so tightly intertwined that most conflicts have at least some religious dimension. this is based on fantasy archetypes rather than the real deal, of course

It was really mostly roleplaying - my GM basically gave us the gist of the campaign (That we were to help protect a city on Tallarn considered sacred from a warband of Orks.) This seemed like an obvious leadin for a crusade-themed campaign, and at first I played along (albeit with my Marine as the quiet one) until I decided to make my character in a different direction, as though the Crusaders and Saracens teamed up to fight off an army time-travelling football hooligans. The GM was pretty chill with it, though I don't know if her ever noticed the shift in styles.

Up until the part where the player blew all of their resources on a single charge attack, annihilating a miniboss with a CR equal to the player's HD, this character had been the epitome of Lawful Nice.
She was so pleasant I had no reason to suspect that she'd go from 0 to 11 after rolling initiative. FFS she knocked on the raider's door and asked if she could come in. Of course they let her- as far as they knew it, was an 18 Charisma 20-something paladin all on her lonesome, and WAY out of her depth, and there were like twenty of them. As far as they were concerned it was a free meal.
The only reason they suspected something was amiss was because she dropped a tactical nuke-smite evil on their boss turn 1.

I made a fire wizard with boastful personality and a lot of muscles. He was generally a nice guy. But the game has gone in such a direction that he was constantly put in situations where his magic either didn't work or was to dangerous to use (I think GM was trying to contain him a little).

So most of the fights were done with him using just a little magic and beating people with his bare hands. There was one time he sailed on top of a table from a second floor of an inn, that was on fire and pelted by ice shards at the same time (and landed on the face of the bad guy which was nice plus).

His other adventures seen things like - beating a bunch of zombies with another zombie, going 1v1 vs a centaur without magic and winning, beating a couple of muggers with a door.

I've got a few of these I made.
First was a 250 year old Dwarf Fighter. He was a grizzled veteran who, before the start of the campaign, accidentally murdered his wife and daughter in a tragic string of events.
By the time of the campaign he was a tired old killer, trying to make peace with himself and find a future that didn't involve violence. As the campaign progressed, he began to realize that redemption would never be possible, and murder was the only thing he would ever be good at.
He was also a culinary genius, and relied heavily on alcohol to drown his tragic past.

Self-styled Paladin following after the footsteps of all his beloved childhood idols, be they from novels or people that personally inspired him. Emphasis on the ''do Good, be compassionate, spread hope whenever it may be needed'' part of a Paladin's ethos over all other concerns, going to painstaking lengths to keep perfect strangers and even hostile humanoids away form danger.

Sounds pretty standard, right? It was about the third session we collectively realized there was something very wrong going on with my luck (rolling a 1 and getting critted for over my max HP in the same turn, rolling a 1 on the first death save...), and it just kept. fucking. happening on and on.
Quite literally, I was not able to hit a single enemy from level 2 until 5, at which point the character died to a stray crit from a lightning ballista bolt fired by our party's Fighter.
Of course, he rolled a 1 on both DEX saves to dodge out of the way. The bolt immediately obliterated both the Paladin and the spectre summoner boss we were fighting, and nobody at the table could really believe what had just happened.
Tl; dr we were retardedly lucky to have it happen near a very high level Priest we had helped before and on good terms with, he came back to life as a sobbing mess thanking everyone for putting up with his shit for so long.

Over time, he's gotten much better about his rolls, to the point where he's able to take himself seriously now: No longer afraid to fall in service to others, he's since realized that all he had ever needed was the courage to stand up for what is right. As long as the world remains unjust, he believes, people like him and his companions can make a difference.
Campaign's still ongoing, and he's now a veritable diehard piece of shit with busted saving throws, a stupid amount of auras and sky-high AC because Paladin is a really fair and balanced class in 5e. Last session he critted a death slaad and a vampire, it was... something, yeah. Mad fun to play.

nothing intentional, it was ORE and he had a weird knack for rolling headshots on my character. Some punk kid in a tavern decked him in the face and was one point shy of an OHKO, then two brothers in the middle of bumfuck nowhere I tried stealing from got back to back headshots to knock him out, then when we're fighting two witches/horrible monsters one of them does enough damage through a heavily armored helmet to knock him out in one hit, and then finally a random lucky soldier lopped his head off with a polearm. it just kept happening.

Played a zen-archery Cleric of Redemption. She dressed like an evil sorceress for practicality's sake but she was actually nice.

Until she met the party, who constantly did things like check for traps with their face, negotiate with demon-worshipping gnolls, and recruit any cute undead girls they found. At the end of the campaign she returned to her monastery for rehabilitative sensitivity training.

Magical Girl Campaign and is still going on, but it's probably going to end in a couple session as we're in endgame.
Probably my favorite campaign I've ever played.
The party fighter was a naive girl trying to make friends, ended up getting involved with this girl who was a psycho if you pushed her the wrong way. I ended up killing that girl.
Party bard was a cheery girl who also ended up getting involved with that same girl but it was romantic this time.
Party barbarian was a nice boy who really only cared about his friends, the party.
Party monk didn't do much and didn't have a character, ended up accidentally killing themselves and the fighter by making a deal with a demon that ended up fusing their souls.

Yeah it sucks. It wasn't just the physical deformity though (she had a bad leg). She was a half-human, so she had folds, acne, hair in places, and all the other things humans have, whereas everyone she knew growing up was a physically perfect angelic being. On top of that, the angels were emotionally perfect too, and never really expressed or talked about greed or jealously or anger except as harmful, evil things.

So yeah, my aasimar did not think they deserved to be the messiah, even though they were by far and away the nicest person around and literally traveled between the poorest towns providing free healing.

I found it legitimately rewarding to go through his struggles, knowing full well that it'd either end in disaster, or the dice would finally redeem him in everyone's eyes. Besides, I had wanted to play a Paladin since high school; again, first character I've made. Real stand-up guy, couldn't help but root for him even as he failed to deliver for so long.
Besides, fuck-ups or not, everyone at the table seemed to have fun. The funy part is that even with his near absolute combat uselessness, he still managed to pull his weight for the most part (Bless and Lay on Hands kind of do that when your party has no other means of support).

Didn't die during the third session, thankfully: got stabilized right after that death save, so he's only bitten it once before.

Well, for Lay on Hands you simply take points from your healing pool as you see fit. You only need to heal a single HP to get someone conscious in 5e, no matter how much damage they took beforehand. That, and Cure Wounds did work on the early levels.

To clarify, he was absolute ass when it came to actually killing things (on a combat focused class), but did enough outside of it to not piss off fellow party members.

Well, our DM isn't the greatest to be completely fair. He tends to overestimate the power of crits (he's done his own homebrew thing) so a 20 will tend to be a oneshot with him. In any case, I started my storm of critical hits when everyone else had gone down against some big bullshit scorpion that I can't remember what he called it.

First version had an obsession with death. Because I was in very early 20s. This was for a LARP where I was still a bit new to the system, game, and LARP scene, but my last character I had enjoyed (A Brujah) died to basically two groups of big players being stupid at each other. So I came up with a concept: former WW2 Navy doctor, had befriended a navajo code-talker and learned Navajo, and then got embraced because his sire needed someone who could do surgery.

One of the other players was on a path of enlightenment, and was willing to have his character teach mine, but STs didn't want that many people on paths. So my doctor/mystic focused on death ended up going a bit crazy and killed a bunch of mortals trying to do some sort of death-based ritual.

This was after I apparently solved 3 plotlines by myself because the Prince kept going 'hey, you know mysticism, check out this thing'.

Later versions of him just have Sanguinary Animism and I build that into his mysticism. I kept the Navy Doctor bit, but also tossed in some other dickery including his great grandsire being pissed at his sire and grandsire, and then mindfucking my character with elder dominate. That version was quite fun, and in one game ended up being Prince.

I made a female Satyr. She was kind, soft-spoken, loved music and small animals, and was prone to damsel-in-distress kind of situations. She was also hot as fuck and never really took to silly civilized ideas like modesty or personal space. The DM (and basically the whole group) made jokes about how I was playing some sort of furry fapbait character. But they put up with her because druids are always useful and she was extremely nice to everyone.

In reality, she was a manipulative psycho whose main goal was to get the party on a crusade to slaughter the evil villains who were trying to destroy her forest. Aka a bunch of unsuspecting lumberjacks who had hired a couple of hunters to get rid of the wolves she had been using to harass them, as well as the nearby city where those lumberjacks were coming from.

The lumberjacks never knew what hit them, but I never managed to convince them to burn down the city, because I had no success coming up with evidence of the "demonic anti-nature cult" that ruled the city.

Yes, and they basically fit in the same way the FGO game's heroes did--NPCs, enemies, glorified Pokemon, walking reference books, mentors. Some naturally gravitated towards rear-echelon support (John Moses Browning, Ben Franklin, etc.), and some naturally became mainstays for field work (Simo Hayha, Diomedes, etc.). Others were kept on speed dial in case the party needed something very specific. Is the enemy at sea? Summon Horatio Nelson. Is the party under attack by Assassins? This is a job for Andrew Jackson. Traveller game, George Kitchener spent 2 terms in the Star Marines before washing out and doing a brief stint in the Navy. He mustered out with with a set of Combat Armor, a fair bit of money and a wife that he regularly corresponded with through letters.

When the PC's were kitting out their Free Trader, they were having an argument on what kind of weapons to give it, going back and forth between normal laser cannons or particle beams. The debate got so heated that people were getting upset OOC, meanwhile George was chatting with his wife on a cellphone type device (I mimed it by pretending to talk into my graphing calculator). Eventually, all other crew members turned to him to try and break the impasse, his response was to shush them until he was done talking before making it clear that the character had not paid any attention to what was being said. This was funny enough to defuse the situation and get the game back on track.

Accidently and graphically killed a Bejing police officer with a super powered punch during a live broadcast, spiraled into semi reclusive denial and did his best to ignore the incident while my exploding fanbase split into several arguing factions over the issue.
