Alpharius.

I think it's dante

unless you're including dreadnoughts, in which case it's Bjorn

>Space Marine

pls. If you want still living, I think Dante is that, this isn't including that fuckass old Space Wolf Dreadnought guy whose name I cannot recall for the life of me.

Bjorn or Tyberos the Red Wake

Including dreadnoughts, Bjorn the Fell Handed probably, but maybe still Anval Thawn.
>>
Who is the edgiest loyalist space marine?
>>
>>43473245

'Oldest' is a pretty loose term in a universe whose reality is as fucked up as 40k.

Someone born in M31 could be 'younger' than someone born in M40 because the Warp decided to toss them out tens of thousands of years into the future.

On the other side of the coin, there are probably characters alive in 40k 'today' who were technically born in the future but ended up in the past because, yet again, Warp fuckery.
>>
>>43473558
Cyrion of the Night Lords

Only partially joking
>>
>>43473692
But "old" refers to age, if someone is 20 today, and transported 100 years into the future, they won't be 120 years old, they will be 20 years old, as they had only lived for 20 years.
>>
>>43473790

But they technically ARE 120 years old in that scenario; 120 years have passed since the day of their birth.
>>
>>43473790
That's just getting into relativity

Am I getting names mixed up again?
>>
>>43474134
Yeah. The Mantis Warriors are renegades in that picture, even if they aren't necessarily Chaos aligned.

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Tyberos
>>
>>43474134
Yeah, he's the boss of the Space Sharks
>>
>>43474035
Where does this come from? Only fluff I know for Tyberos is from the Tyrant of Badab books and his age isn't mentioned IIRC.
>>
>>43474230
There's fluff that mentions that a suit of terminator armour similar to his with the name "TYBEROS THE RED WAKE" inscribed on it being manufactured in the 32nd Millenium on Mars.

Can't find the source anymore.

It might be that it's an inherited name for the defacto chapter masters of the Carcharodons, or he's actually that old.

The second seems more likely honestly. His face is supposedly half fallen off to the bone, and he never gets out of his armour. Leads me to believe he's made it into a kind of part dread armour to keep him alive.
>>
>>43474175
To be fair, they had been duped by Huron into betrayal, and switched sides when they figured out they'd been duped.

Didn't stop them from getting disbanded and their Chapter Master from getting thrown into eternal solitary confinement, but still worth noting.

>>43474608
Well, that's the Imperium for you.
>>
>>43474320
So his armor is old. Most weapons and armor are old in 40k. The Gauntlets of Ultramar are 10,000 years old at least, but Calgary is not that old.

Tyberos wears an ancient relic suit of terminator armor (many suits are ancient relics) with script and language dating from the Solar Court of M.32 because that was when it was inscribed.

Not once in the badab books does it give even an approximate age for Tyberos. Those bits and clues are there to make it clear that they do not resupply and are almost completely estranged from the Imperium.
>>
>>43474608
They didn't get disbanded, they were forced into a Pertinent Crusade, which they finished.

They're now noted for their big support of Deathwatch.
>>
>>43474816
Well again, the main thing is that when his armour was originally made, way back in 32M, it already had his name written on it.

There are only two possible reasons for that.
>>
>>43474879
The guy who made it was named so.

The guy who first wore it was named so.

The guy it was designed for was named so.

The name is itself symbolic for the chapter.

Someone thought it would be neat.
>>
>>43474847
Wait, backwards, they were noted, now they aren't.

Also, they had the coolest Librarian.
>>
>>43474186
Stop talkin' about those goddamn Space Sharks!
>>
>>43473328
This is the correct answer.
>>
>>43474879
The Sharks maintain the use of language from M.32?

You know, the last time they were really dealing with the wider Imperium based on the Chapter's documentation presented to Legate Frain? It is like how people still use ancient languages for ritualistic reasons.

Not everything has a super complicated/retarded reasoning behind it. He isn't 8,000 years old, the language on his armor is 8,000 years old.

Dear god, we now live in a society in which it is easier to assume the ridiculous rather than pick up the not-too subtle clues written by authors.

>>
>>43475416
Yeah, it's mentioned they all speak High Gothic.

No, it's in one of the Badab war books, a techpriest tries to find the pattern of his armour and finds the a very similar example from 32M THAT WAS MADE WITH THE NAME ALREADY ON IT.

It's not that they just inscribed the name in High Gothic on the armour, they have records of the armour being made with the name already on it.

You could say that it's a ceremonial name or the man was named after the armour for whatever reason, but it seems a lot more straightforward to me that the half skeleton man is really fucking old.
>>
>>43474035

>He's not dead because shark's can't die of old age

IT'S LIKE POETRY!
>>
>>43475557
But the point the other anon is trying to make is that no such evidence of the guy wearing the armor is that old has been explicitly stated. While that theory you make could be the case, there is nothing more than circumstantial evidence for it.

It could be like what the Ethereals (used to) assume Farsight had been doing; making the name a legacy for whoever wore the armor. A title that is passed down from generation to generation.

So while the armor might have been always worn by "TYBEROS THE RED WAKE", that doesn't necessarily mean that it has been the same person over the years.
>>
>>43473652
Any Marine Malevolent. Literally kill their own brothers for the best gear.
>>
Dante is the oldest.

Bjorn is the oldest overall, thanks to being a Dreadnought.

>>43474320
Yet Dante is outright stated to be the oldest. As in, his age is actually mentioned. Tyberos isn't. It's probably a name somebody gets given when they become Chapter Master of Space Sharks.

Bjorn is hard to wake and he's 10k years old and in a Dreadnought. Being 8k years old and only in a Terminator suit just doesn't work. Dante feels old at 1300 years old.

So, it's likely a moniker given when you become CM.

>>43475557
What's more likely? That the guy is 8,000 years old and still able to fight, communicate and lead a Chapter just by being in a Terminator armour, while Bjorn struggles to be woken in Dreadnought armour and Dante, member of the Blood Angels famed for their long life, feels the weight of ages on his shoulders at 1300 years old.

Or, it was crafted for somebody called Tyberos The Red Wake, and has become the name given to somebody who ascends to Chapter Master. Or the Space Marine who ordered it made was called it. Or it was given the name based on how it was created (Tech Priest has dream and does it) or something else?
>>
>>43475774
It just seems weird that they would even mention it if there wasn't the implication he was that old.

Especially in conjunction with how fucked up and gnarled he is. His face is half skeletonized, he never leaves his Tactical Dreadnought armour, and he can't speak higher than a whisper.

Makes it seem like he's somehow been life supported into his armour. If that means he's technically interred in a Dread, it doesn't invalidate Dante being the oldest or Bjorn being the oldest in a Dread.
>>
>>43475830
Still an odd idea. I get the whole "sharks can't die of old age" thing (thou nature kills them off if they go infertile anyway, which means old age doesn't really matter, they still die) but it's odd that this is a thing.

I mean, I like Space Sharks, I just find it odd.

Tyberos the Red Wake is actually a perpetual. His Geneseed has not changed since he was originally created as a Space Marine. That's why the Carcharodons Gene Seed is so much purer than the Raven Guard stock they come from.

This secret is also why the Carcharodons stay out of Imperial Space for such long periods of time. If anyone were to know that they are growing original Raven Guard Gene Seed from the Red Wake, they would be branded as traitors and heretics of the highest order.

Captain Lysander of the Imperial Fists. Canonically he's about 1500 years old and knew about Dante when he was just a Tactical Marine.

Abdaziel Magron of the Dark Angels from the novel Eye of Terror. He fought during the Heresy, got ejected into space and spent the next few millennia in a coma until M41.
>>
>>43476768
Multiple reasons.

First, mutated bodies don't age normally.

Secondly time behaves differently in the Eye and the Warp in general. A Chaos Space Marine might only have been alive for several hundred years on his end, but in reality his visits to the outer galaxy have been millenia apart.
>>
>>43476808
That's only named characters. Forgeworld mentions a ton of nameless mook Dreadnoughts surviving since that time.
>>
>>43476869
That must be like fighting in the Civil War then waking up to Obama as president.

I love that little guardsman there. He doesn't give any fucks what this guy's about, he's just waiting for the chance to shine that flashlight right in the dude's face. Worlds literally gone to hell and he's acting like its a minor annoyance he has to deal with every Tuesday. Brilliant.
>>
Could a Marine be created, get thrown 1000 years into the future by warp fuckery, fight for another 500, then get thrown 1500 years back by more warp fuckery only to die; and if so, what age would the records list? What would his reception in his fighting years be?
>>
>>43476928
Actually, it would be more the other way around.

>What the fuck happened to the Imperial Truth? Do you not remember him saying literally the exact opposite of this? Where is my Volkite? What do you mean they "Don't remember how to make them"?
>>
>No Cypher
>>
>>43476942
Fuck balls of steel, that guardsman has balls of ceramite.
>>
>>43476958
I dunno man.

There's a lot of weird warpfuckery going on. Like how the Legion of the Damned appear multiple times before they are actually created because they move erratically through time.

He'd probably be killed for Warp taint and abolished from the Imperial records, knowing the Inquisition.
>>
>>43476958
More importantly, if the warp is as random as people claim it to be, why are there no random traitor marines popping up BEFORE the heresy occured?
>>
Oldest actively known non-dreadnought loyalist Marine is Dante who's 1,000-1,200 years
>>
>>43476967
>Where is my Volkite? What do you mean they "Don't remember how to make them"?

>>
>>43476971
Cypher isn't that old, he was just scattered through time and can seemingly control it at will and/or there are multiple ones and the title has been passed down through the ages
>>
>>43476971
The original "Cypher" is long dead
>>
>>43477005
It's random. So it just hasn't happened yet.

More importantly is to consider the infinitesimally small possibility that all of the forces of chaos Alduin the fuck out forever.

They speak of this IN the Night Lords Omnibus. CSM spend a lot of time in the Eye of Terror where time passes differently. For a legionary attacking the Imperium in M41 it might only feel like 175 years have passed since the Siege of Terra.
>>

Not an expert on the minutiae of various Chapters, but the candidates depending on your criteria would probably be Dante, Bjorn, Tyberos, and I think Mephiston is supposed to be really goddamn ancient too. Or, or, or...

THEY PUT NEW WRITING ON IT IN AN ANCIENT LANGUAGE.

Where does it say they have records of the armor made with the name already on it? I'm looking at the page right now, and it does not state that the inscription dates to when the armor was made. Only that the "armorial wording" was from an old dialect:

"The dialect was old; a sub-tongue of High Gothic he traced to the Solar Court of the early 33rd Millennium, 'Tyberos' it read, 'of the Red Wake'."

So they still maintain the use of an extinct dialect. Yep, he MUST be 80,000,000 years old. Makes sense.
>>
>>43475557
>>43485737
P.S.: Half skeletal faces do not make someone 8,000 years old. Look up Cassius of the Ultramarines. Or that old Index Astartes on Crimson Fists with the captain with half a face.

Or, check out some art in the 3rd ed. rulebook in the imperial guard army list, there is I think a Catachan dude with half a face gone. Shit happens all the time.
