You send Jyoti into the Ice Quartz cavern to meditate and learn, the rushing water of the falls block out all sound and the feeling of the crystals about him help link him to his craft. (-1 turn)
A few of your giants spend some time among the mammoths, checking them thoroughly over and discover that one of your females has thicker fur than the others, as well as slightly longer tusks. It will be some time before they finish looking through the other mammoths, especially the foul tempered bull.

>B. Enhance with ice - Enchant items with frost, weapons will give frostbite upon striking, armor will insulate better against flame and fire

>>

Your people start to cut and sew the mammoth pelts into passable clothing and do so with flying colors. Cutting down 2 mammoth hides they make enough clothing for everyone in the tribe. Its functional, albeit a little ugly.

You opt its about time you insulate your cave. Calling Jyoti from his chamber you have him set about the walls, it takes quite a bit of work. Your giants scooping up handfuls of water and splashing them on the stone while Jyoti freezes it in place. After a week of hard work hauling water Jyoti is exhausted but, your cave is much cozier than before and its walls twinkle in the light of your small fire. Whilw the child still has a cough, the mother is quite pleased it hasnt gotten any worse.

Isn't outside a really bad idea?

Last time we sent anyone outside in this long freezing winter, 3 of them died and the other 3 barely made it back. Seriously it seems like this winter is seriously bad news. I really thin we should avoid anything that involves going outside, at least until Spring.

The trees growing inside are barely worth calling trees but there are a few.
>>37288339
God damn right it seems bad
>>

Yeah, we can't go out into a frozen tundra during the winter.

Still voting for meditation. Hopefully me not voting on the path doesn't screw us over becoming ice-wraiths

Gm said winter ia bad stay inside forever meditate in ice cave and research mining
>>
You sent Jyoti back inside his crystal cavern. With the reflections of the crystals around him he reaches out and touches them, so like ice they are.
Pulling one of the looser crystals out of the bunch and pours water where it was taken. TO his amazement the Quartz creaks and grows, consuming the water, turning it into another bunch of shards!
New tech unlocked: Ice Quartz growing and harvesting. (Dont cut yourself!)

As it turns out your bull is quite virulent, you think that if you separate him from the cows he will be able to breed more regularly. (+2 babies per year if you keep the bull from the cows)

Your tribe is enamored by the crystals and with a bit of hard work, chipping away shards of crystal and growing them with water your Hardwood Clubs become incredibly fierce with crystalline blades. (-9 Hardwood Clubs, +9 Iceshard Axes)
You note with some concern that the last of your mammoth flesh is gone, your people will have to resort on chewing bones for marrow unless something is done.

If we manage to kill some more mammoths on this hunt, I think we should look into making pants and shoes with the mammoth hide. Maybe also mammoth wool hats. And we can use the bones to make tools, spear-tips, possibly a door-frame around the mouth of the cave with the tusks/biggest curving or curvable bones (from which we could hang a pelt, to give the cave some extra protection from the cold).

4 Of your bravest Giants step out into the Long Dark, girded with their mammoth tunics and Hardwood clubs they eschew the use of torches.
The world outside is just as alien as before with snow whipping through the air like tiny razors and an uncaring black sky strangling the air above. 3 of these Giants survive the last hunt and intend to do so again. Sadly the hunt does not go well.
Sharp, winds and burning cold forces your hunters to hunker down several times, sometimes for hours at a time. At the end of the 4th day in this hellish blackness one of your men stands atop a swelling hill and swears in the distance he can see orange light. Too far to travel now. The sad return trip is hurried and unpleasant, minor frostbite is common among your hunters and empty bellies growl against the uncaring winds. Back inside the cave they are fortunate for the efforts of Rukova and Jyoti, forcing frostbitten flesh to live again and twisting long frozen skin to thaw.
(Nothing gained, everything ventured)
Luckily you notice from the hole above your cavern that the long dark is coming to a close, the blackness fades agonizingly slowly, not long now.

(Your roll saved your people, have a cookie)
Too many of your giants are unwilling to venture out into the Long Dark again. Only 2 step out into the wind again. They are pleased to find that while the wind blows frost against their furs the snow seems to have abated for now and take to the hunt with renewed vigor. In the dim light pushing from behind the mountains they spot prey in a matter of hours, off in the distance a herd of wild buffalo stand huddled together. One of your hunters swear they passed by that exact spot when last he hunted and thought the beasts were not but a shadow in the dark.
After some hours of walking they spring from behind a hillside, whooping and shouting. The Buffalo stampede away and your two hunter manage to catch a few older and weaker ones before slinging them over their shoulders and heading home. (+ 24 Food, 5 Buffalo Hides)
Meanwhile Rukova gathers many of the mammoth bones and covers her cavern in them. Skulls acorn the walls and bone shards litter the ground, truly an alter of death. (New structure, Death Altar)

Elder Grulin sees the discontent in his people and decides to rouse them with a speech. This however goes poorly as Grulin, while a good leader has never been much of a speaker.
Fortunately Mjolski steps up to the plate and sings a song from our old home. By the end of it every giant is singing along with it, their voices echoing in the Deep, proud and strong.

Also, boss, how is my idea about using Reanimate Flesh on Troll pelt to make it start growing again from its regenerative powers? I'm picturing some kind of tanners rack that they use to stretch out and "grow" more of it.

Disgusting I know but hey, giant's gotta do what a giant's gotta do

Taking apart the last Mammoth hide your people set about protecting their legs from the fury of this new land. By the end of the week your tribe is dressed in fashionable mammoth britches.

Also the Mammoth Calf has finished growing into a sow.
Outside the world is bright again, most of the ice has melted away and life returns to the land, slowly.

Your tribe moves together, 6 Giants step from the cave, clubs in hand. Without skipping a beat they set out for the hunt.
Not even an hour from the cave they find a herd of buffalo again, much larger than the herd before. The Child charges first, screaming to the blue sky, before they can scatter before her she is upon them. Her club rises and falls a dozen times before the rest of your tribe catches up. A dozen buffalo lay dead around The Child, a faint haze fades before anyone can comment on it. (+120 Buffalo meat, 12 Buffalo hides)

Hm, ok. Well I think C will be good because it will lead into what we are looking for. (B is tempting because I feel like that will let us turn ourselves undead ultimately, but forcing others into undead servitude is more tempting).

Just to be clear, all spells drain the caster.
Its just a matter of how hard. Say Rukova keeps a corpse moving for a few days, she may die. But if she doesnt a few turns of rest and she will be able to do it again.
>>

In the mean time. Mjolski tries to craft a xylophone from the ice quartz.

This is getting silly aint it? I almost want to call for postponing the thread until tommorow because of how freakishly low these rolls are.

I'd also like to push a research (Mining) if possible or do we need tools for that? Last civquest I was in this low tech was pretty hardcore about building up like that.

Attempt building a larder to store food in better conditions and avoid rot?

Is this even useful since we can literally revert rotting flesh including our meaty food stores?

Train another Giant Ice Mage. Relying on only one is bad news if anything bad were to happen

One of your older males has a small spark of magic within him, he might now amount to much but in this hostile land, anything will help. Jyoti takes him into the Ice Quartz cave to learn.
