>>
>>34477503

I choose to believe that Black Dynamite is canon in the 40K universe.

Ah, who am I kidding, it's canon in every universe.
>>
>>34477496
Actually, there isn't any major Tyranid threat in their sector of space.

The first in line to be eaten are the Eldar of Saim Hain whose craftworld is cornered between two Hive Fleets.
>>
>>34477456
What, they put in a lot of effort make all those cool guns and big robot suits. They just want to use that stuff given how much work it took to get it. Using a gigantic finetuned warmachine armed with the most cutting edge superguns you can get to hit the other guys over their collective heads like cavemen would just be a waste.

There was one. Can't remember which, the tau fought when it hit their space.

It was Hive Fleet Gorgon. It was defeated by the combined efforts of the Cadians and the Tau of Kel'shan in 903 41K.

Working on my custom sept, rate my fluff.

Ba'sing sept, founded in the second sphere of expansion was primarily an earth caste planet. It was considered the Tau equivalent of a forgeworld and had a large supply of techs/workers from other newly races, conditioned and educated on its nearby moon.

Th industries soon expanded into space and a number of orbital stations and construction yards were built, modified by the locals to incorporate large defensive emplacements.

When the nearby enclaves rebelled, farsight launched an attack to claim the sept quickly in typical mont'ka fashion. Using an empty starship as a battering ram he punched a hole in the defences and began to land troops. The assault was eventually repelled but the damage was done, the faith of the citizens were shaken and their cities were in ruins.

It was at this time that the ethereals stepped in, a massive movement to make the citizens forget what happened and rebuild. The Troops garrisoned here are half patriotic nationalists and half secret police force, grizzled veterans of the conflict with tau rebels they carry large banners and customize their equipment so as to be easily recognizable as loyalist forces
>>
>>34478524
Those were just splinters of Kraken.

Those were taken cared off by

-Shadowsun (defeated a splinter fleet with zero losses on her side) (Tau codex)
-Fatsight (Farsight supp)
-Tau and Ultramarine alliance (SM 5th ed codex)
-Tau and Dark Eldar alliance (DE codex)

everyone is equal, strips humans of all technoly but wants them to join their empire clearly for territory rather than the greater good
>>
>>34479178

More effective then you would think, but board-game balance and all.

I mean, Las-guns fluff wise are supposed to wreck anything remotely similar to a human, armored or otherwise.

Thing is, 9/10 times you aren't fighting anything similar to a human, it's either a fucking fungus, fueled by the bullshit substance of the warp, too fast for you to see it dodge, an unending tide of chitin or a thousand other fucking things.

Against Tau? Wrecks their shit, problem is, the Tau are a mobile force, so you wreck their shit and they snipe the fuck out of you.

I still honestly don't see WHY the Tau are important enough to warrant an Army, at least the Deldar have interesting fluff and are still somewhat relevant.

The Tau are slow as fuck in Space, it's said somewhere, probably xenobiology or some stupid book, that a proper Imperial Hiveworld has more population total than the Entire Tau Species, most of their technology isn't even theirs (Railguns were given to them by dark spess dwarves, and fairly certain plasma tech was scrounged from a derelict Ad-Mech ship via Old Warpstorm) they don't even think Daemons or The Chaos Gods exist, their empire is stupidly tiny and already fractured, and their Leadership is a bunch of naive cocksucks.
>>
>>34479226

>Choosing the Empire over Farsight or going Independent.

They already fucked up.

What? Fuckin' Really?

Not even the Eldar can do that shit, and The Eldar make everyone else fight FOR them, and have been doing THAT longer than the Tau have been a SPECIES.
>>
>>34479293
>(Railguns were given to them by dark spess dwarves, and fairly certain plasma tech was scrounged from a derelict Ad-Mech ship via Old Warpstorm)

Bullshit.

If you make stuff up like this it makes your other claims look suspicious. The Railgun is theirs and so is the plasma.

What they took from the other races was the old warp skim drives from an identified ship wreckage on their moon and Ion technology from the Dwarf things. Both of these were retconned in the 6ed fluff which says that the Tau drives and Ion technology were crated by the Tau themselves.
>>

Oh, I'm sorry, the technology that the Tau found and had given to them was retconned to have been created by them in 6ed apparently, because the Tau are special to have Invented Warp Skim drives without actually understanding dick about the Warp/Immaterium at all and having near-zero or absolute-zero fucking Psykers to even realize that it is a thing, unless THAT was retconned as well.

>In order to feed their constant hunger, the Slaugth have begun to turn their attention to the Calixis Sector and have begun to destabilize the region by fomenting civil war and anarchy. They began by infiltrating the Amaranthine Syndicate when it was a fledgling trade cartel and slowly moved in to control it completely. This patient approach may take several human generations to come to fruition, but it is a plan brilliant in its simplicity, relying on basic human greed.[1a] The Slaught provide humans with technology, wealth, and trinkets, encouraging mankind to tear itself apart over these items. When their plans have sufficiently advanced, they intend to further infiltrate the major criminal, political, and economic organizations of the Imperium, with the Ecclesiarchy and Adeptus Administratum being likely targets. When the appointed time approaches, the Slaugth intend to see the sector collapse in on itself whereupon they will sweep through the region and have their way.[1b]

>The Slaugth possess a mastery of biomechanical technology and elemental physics which exceeds that of mankind and perhaps even the Eldar. Among their more mysterious capabilities is the capacity to travel interstellar distances without making use of the Warp. Many of their devices are actually grown or augmented pseudo-living machines which blend both flesh and metal in a functional symbiosis.[1b] Their weapons and artefacts appear as products of warp craft to the uninitiated.[1d] This keen and terrible grasp of the biosciences allows them to grow entire armies instead of training them. Their array of constructs can be adapted to serve as guards, spies and even as labourers.[5b]

Whelp.
>>
>>34479553
Yeah. Illithids are from a difficult to identify fantasy space future where the stars grew cold and distant and the suns darkened out and the gods died and they either evolved or else rose up out of the burrows that were already there (it's implied their existence is cyclical) to conquer the universe before something bigger and badder than them (prolly from the far realm) went on and destroyed their empire and forced them back in time.
The Aboleths are nonplus because there have always been Aboleths and always will be but where the fuck did you come from? Honestly, the Aboleths probably don't even care about whatever ate the Illithid and will continue to Lovecraftian rape fish into the forseeable eternity (especially if its from the Far Realm, as they are Far Spawn kind of)
>>

>>
>>34479634
No I mean, I get what it is, but the phrase itself is fucking terrible.

>>
>>34479611

>>
>>34479650

You could have read about the Tau BFG fluff to understand how the Tau came to discover and reverse engineer the warp drive to skim drives. Them being not pskers was addressed in that fluff.

Instead decided to be ignorant about it and go ''it doesn't make sense!!'.

>Point is, I don't like the Tau, never have liked the Tau, so I don't pay attention to the Tau.

Fair enough but if you want to criticize the Tau about specific parts of their lore (Technology, population, etc), you should at least be a little informed instead of pulling bullshit out of nowhere.

Aboleths see Illithids as abomination because, as he said, Aboleths, who share bloodline memories that date back to the Primordial Chaos, have absolutely NO memories of the illithids ever being a thing, even though every Aboleth has the memories of the mother of their race, a horrible abomination that tunnels through the multiverse like a there really is no analogue for this, so when they just suddenly showed the fuck up, it kinda startled them.

In old (well, not old old, but sort of old), it was possible to catch tyranid ships in hibernation during travel and wreck their shit before they wake up too much of their defences.
It was usually SM operations, but I would interpret this "zero losses" as something like that.

Speaking of Worthless genetic material.

How the fuck do the Tyranids make use of Blanks?

I know the Eldar because Zoanthropes, Spess Muhreens are Tyrant Guard, Imperial Guard get dissolved en-masse with or two "True" genetic deviations are picked up because of adaptation to home worlds that are of interest.

But what the fuck could the Norn Queens use the Blank Gene for? Besides making damn certain Chaos stays the ever-sweet-loving fuck away from them, that is.

>Chaos tries to corrupt a small splinter fleet
>Chaos is on the same planet with a Chaos artifact
>Suddenly, Blank Carnifexes / Lictors / Winged Hive Tyrant / ALL OF THE GAUNTS / Gargoyles / Extremely Specialized unit that doesn't fuck with Synapse.
>>
>>34480078
Blank = no connection to the Hive mind.

Bad idea.

The Null field created by the Hivemind is enough to weaken and banish daemons.

Blanks perma-kill Daemons though.

So, say a hyper-specialized Lictor is spore-dropped into the area surrounding Chaos-controlled areas.

The thing is engineered to burn out because of it's metabolism after so long.

Boom, perma-killed Daemons.

The Hive Mind isn't stupid, it could find some way to use it, however remote.
>>
>>34480078
Nothing. If a hive splinter assimilates the blank gene, that splinter dies.

But it's just a gene, it wouldn't auto-integrate or awaken, it would just be floating there, it's strands, structure, and sequences just another piece of knowledge in the Norn Queen's mind.

The Norn Queen knows how to construct it from the ground up, that doesn't mean she or any other Tyranid HAS IT.
>>

>To be fair, he DID use accurate, or semi-accurate information that would probably still be viable if it wasn't retconned.

I hate to agree with TIDF/Carnac anon, but that guy really didn't know what he was talking about. He said himself that he doesn't even like the Tau, so it's not exactly surprising.

Old, now-retconned lore for Tau warp drives, for those curious:

>Tau vessels already used a form of gravitic drive. This projected a sheath of gravitic energy ahead of and around the vessel which was continually re-projected further ahead, drawing the ship behind it rather like an archaic sail. For two hundred tau’cyr the Water Caste grappled with the problem only for the breakthrough to be handed to them.

>On the innermost of T’au seven’s moons a routine geological survey discovered the remains of an alien vessel. The significance of the find did not disrupt Tau society as much as might have been expected. Tau theorists had long reasoned that other life forms existed and the verification helped confirm the belief that there was a greater destiny awaiting them. No Tau commented on the sheer good fortune of finding the technology that they so desperately needed on their doorstep just when they needed it.

>The Tau were able to duplicate the warp drive of the alien ship but the initial test flights were disastrous. Achieving transition to the Warp required more than technology, it required psychically attuned minds and the Tau race boasted no psykers. Without them to guide the transition no amount of power could breach the dimensional barriers. The best the Tau could do was make a partial transition, forcing themselves into the void that separated Warpspace and real space before they were hurled out again like a ball held under water then released.

>Data gathered at great cost during the test flights was studied closely. The Water caste scientists made the observation that the boundary between real space and warp space was not a neat line. It was closer to being a turbulent ocean fomented by the tempestuous warp tides below. By carefully angling their descent toward the Warp and extending the field generated by the gravitic drive into a wing, shaped to hold the vessel down a Tau vessel could extend the duration of the dive considerably. The speeds achieved in the ascent back to real space were staggering and this coupled with the effect of the Warp on time and space ensured that the real distance covered by the dive was immense. Early tests lost several drone ships because they inadvertently passed far beyond the sensor range of their recovery vessels.

>The details were soon resolved. There was still a major constraint, only the most powerful (and bulky) drives could sustain the gravitic wing throughout the dive and the power drain meant that considerable recharge time was needed between dives. Also by comparison to actually navigating the warp the pace was still very slow. Taking typical Imperial Warp speeds the Tau drive was slower by a factor of five. The speed was consistent though, did not expose the Tau to the perils of the Warp and enabled the Tau to expand beyond their home star for the first time.

The Queen doesn't know what it does until it's used and tested. All the organisms it would test the gene on would turn out very poorly, and the blank field could potentially prevent the Hive Mind from being able to actually perceive the results of the test run, so it might try again just to see what the hell happened.
>>
>>34480120
Whatever nid created from it would be outside the control of the Hivemind and its blank aura would harm the Hivemind.

Another point is that daemons are as countless as the nids and perhaps more so. Perma-killing them is pointless for the Tyranids, just destroying them and sending them to the Warp would be enough.

Final point, Implying the Nids can assimilate genetics created the C'tan/Necrons

That's a fancy bribe for making us attack the Orks / Heretics / Space Elves / Innumberable Chitin covered abominations / Our own People that have more numbers and better orbital capabilities, better supply train, and Bigger Guns, first and in-masse.

At least the Imperials were honest about it, and at least Las-rifles you could take a baneblade rolling over them and being perfectly fine, with these fiddly things you get it knocked out of your hand and you have to call Tech support.

Tau = Apple.
>>
>>34480175
>>34480190
That actually conflicts with Imperium fluff in that entering and exiting the warp is a completely mechanical process and that pskyers, in the form of Navigators, are only needed to guide ships in significant travels. Warp jumps of less than five light years can use cogitators to navigate a course.

As much as I want the Tau to 'win' 40k. I don't see it happening at all. Which is sad because its probably the best possible outcome for the galaxy.

The Tau can't win 40k, it is actually impossible for them to win.

There are at least hundreds of other Minor-Xenos, and that is what the Tau are, MINOR XENOS empires out there in Imperial space, and more outside Imperial space, that make the Tau look like a cosmic joke, that have advanced enough Technology to make the Imperium say "Fuck it, they aren't expanding and don't intend to expand, Fuck it"

The Tau are not hot shit, they aren't even really a threat, the Dark Eldar are more of a threat and those fucks are just Raiders.

Ordo Xenos inquisitors and their henchmen aren't very skilled in fighting heretics and demons.

Ordos Xenos fight heretics and Xenos if they stumble upon them and would have a idea on what they are and they would pass it to the Tau. Also their knowledge about dealing with Xenos cults and Xenos psykers would benefit the Tau when dealing with Chaotic based cults.

The guy has a Mindworm on him so he might not have a choice in the matter.
>>
>>34481221
The Ordo Xenos inquisitors that fight Chaos Xenos are from very respected cabals that can call upon the Deathwatch.

These kinds of inquisitors don't end up betraying the Imperium for the Tau or get mindcontrolled.

Only a dumb low-level upstart inquisitor without a cabal gets involved in such dumb shit.
>>
>>34481245
I do know that, you fucking retard, because I paid attention to Inquisition lore.

>>34481284
Well, there's a certain possibility that the Inquisitor in question is just a "manchurian candidate".

It's a very Imperial tactic, and it abuses the biggest Tau weaknesses. Pride and naivity.
>>
>>34481272
''These kinds of inquisitors don't end up betraying the Imperium for the Tau or get mindcontrolled''

You're just making assumptions based on nothing. How do you know an Inquisitor of that kind won't be broken by the mindworms, when a captured Space Marine with all his conditioning and willpower struggled to keep them out of his mind? He is only human.
>>
>>34481392
He screwed over the Imperials big time and feed them false information. Also the mindworm adviser is interfaced with his mind.

So I find it unlikely, or was it part of his plan?
>>
>>34481398
>How do you know an Inquisitor of that kind won't be broken by the mindworms
Because a proper Inquisitor guides things from behind a desk, you fucking retarded cunt.

Read inquisition lore.

It's the young inquisitors with no experience that get killed, mindcontrolled, eaten, etc.

The experienced inquisitors have only one enemy. Other inquisitors.
>>
>>34481634
There are plenty of Inquisitors who take to the field.

I am not convinced.
>>
>>34481669
Plenty of Inquisitors with lots of influence and money to field entire armies as bodyguards that take the field.

An Inquisitor who gets controlled by a mindworm fucked up majorly.

A proper Inquisitor needs an entire Space Marine chapter going rogue, or a Hivefleet, or a Black Crusade jumping up to get taken out.
>>

>>
>>34480738
It's always annoyed me that they couldn't find a "Tau" way of travelling at light speed that doesn't use the warp. They could have made things really interesting having them go in a completely different direction.

But no, everyone has units analogous to each other. Every army has a dreadnought variant, or a chainsword/power-sword variant or shields or plasma or whatever.
