Can you go years without talking to another human being? What about untold months snatching your meals from the forest floor and sleeping in muddy pits? Sanity is a spider clinging to a fluttering thread of web unaware of the fingers reaching for it, catching it, plopping it in my mouth...

Alone in this new world for years, Gauldoth has lived like an animal in the wilderness. When some farmers catch him and try to burn him at the stake, Gauldoth barely escapes into the forest. Soon, rage and fear give birth to a new sense of purpose. Gauldoth raises a small army of his own and embarks on a quest for knowledge as well as revenge. This is the story of the foundation of the kingdom of Nekross.

It will never happen. Abandon all hope

Since we have to start somewhere, I will post. But I can't promise to stay very long.

You awake in a claustrophobic small coffin. With supernatural strength you push the stone plate above you to the side. With it the last sigils holding your might shatter.

You stand in your crypt. The first thing you notice are the dust and the spider webs. The second thing you notice are the marks of vandalism. Obviously someone tried to get some gems out of your crypt damaging in the process some sigils that were holding you. It seems your peers were more afraid of you than you thought.

You raise your arms and call for the dead. The servants that were buried with you easily answer your call. Other ... not so much. This pesky sacred ground.

You have:
20 Skeletons
1 Lich mage

You step out of your crypt and look at the red moon, that is increasing your necromancy in this night.

Around you lay the ruins of Al'Djeerza, you briefly wonder how long you have slept. Not far away your hollow eyes see a fire flickering.

What do you do?
>Explore the city.
>spy on the fire.
>raise more undead.

>You are doing it wrong. Just stop.

The Lich basically is on a cemetery. With crypts of nobles. But all of them have some kind of magic, to protect the dead. You would have to break through them.

--------------
The lich(what's his name?) turns away from the fire, turns away from the city centre where the library, the temples and the palace including his old tower were, when he were alife.

His way carries him down into the merchants quarters but the depots are crushed under the weight of centuries. Until he stops in front of the city wall or what remains of such. At his left stands the old amoury. But the old oak door looks rather persistent. Also he remembers the poor's shacks outside the wall. No chance there are some easy to animate skeletons. Maybe even outside secrated ground.
>let the skeletons open the amoury (needs the hole night for the skeletons)
>open the amoury with magic (depletes Magic until the next sun setting)
>go out of the walls, to animate more skeletons (retains one use of Magic)
>>

First of all, are these Oblivion skeletons, skyrim skeletons, or amnesia skeletons in there strength power and durability? This actually would make a significant difference to our meta.
>>
>>34037005
Average melee average range, any upgrades that increase their strength would require research and materials we don't generally have at the start of the game.

Assuming OP is using the civ page as a guideline.

tl;dr swarm with numbers.
>>
>>34036981
Lets get a more clever lich name going, also personally I'm a fan of the idea of a lot of minor and very mortal characters in addition to one or two core characters, so when someone leads a scouting party or some other warparty, they actually can die terribly if the idea goes bad

I am thinking of Heroes of Might and Magic skeletons.
Fast (as a human) a little bit stronger than a human, but go down after one good hit. If you find them bows, they make decent archers. (not likely to find working bows in the amoury).

So yeah, swarm them.

You could also raise Zombies (slower, but sturdier) but for that you would have to find a corpse with most of its flesh (not mummified).

Other Units are to be unlocked by research.
>>
>>34037332
>zombie in any way being better then skelebros
>>
>>34037332
I was thinking the same thing. They're not really stronger than a human (pikeman?) but you can stack them so hard it's not funny.

You could try fusing them with an alloy to make them sturdier, and give them armor as a great synergy. You could also make better skeletons altogether like bone constructs made of multiple skeletons, or perhaps find a better donor like giants/cyclops.
>>
>>34037400
skelezord?
>>
Lets force open the armory before we do anything, at a minimum we'll increase our survivability mildly and were basically in the middle of a creepy dungeon, who knows when looters, adventurers, and/or necrophiles will come back through, we need to prepare before anything
>>
>>34037525
OP has given a choice between opening the armory with magic or opening the armory with skeletons.
>>
>>34037550
Eh, it seems to me we either tie ourselves up a day or handicap ourselves for a day, I'd rather the former as it prevents sudden X-Com esque moments of sudden death. I vote skeletons

>Xak'ladrathanon
I think I'm going with this.
-------
While he leaves the city, Xak'ladrathanons tireless minions pick up stones and scratch at the armourys door. Outside the city he finds a cemetery also it is consecrated ground the spells are nowhere near as powerful as the consecration in the wealthier quarters. It is a peace of cake to desecrate the ground and raise the undead. 25 full skeletons and many parts answer the call. As Xak'ladrathanons looks up to the sky he estimates an other four hours until the sun rises and blinds all undead. So he has time to do one of the following things:

>Arrange the skeleton parts and raise about 30 additional undeads
>investigate the fire
>explore the city more (which part?)
>>

Why not the shape of helicopters? If a human skeleton can move the way it can, and you can arrange bones to mimic horses, so too can a helicopter skeleton take off. It's brilliant.
>>
>>34037739
Undead don't consume anything but generally there's a cap on how many you can control at once. You can increase your own potential to increase the cap, find new minions (living necromancers or liches) or find and tap into an outside magical source. But that all depends on the GM.

>>
>>34037713
>>until the sun rises and blinds all undead.
>I'm not familiar with this lore. What's it about?

I wanted the undead to live in dark places and to seek shelter at the day.
Undead should be enemies of the light, but I didn't want to go all vampire style.
Also I found it good to give the undead army a weakness. Humans and other are weak at night. Undead are weak at day.

>>34037739
No, Undead don't consume anything. Also I don't plan on putting a limit onto the number of undead you can raise. But those undead you can raise in masses are mindless so having to few controllers will let you loose control over the flow of battles.
(Hope this rules don't make undead to powerful.)
>>
>>34038171
It is "Necropolis Theme" form Heroes of Might and Magic III.
>>
>>34038218
At least according to the civ image they're weak to light magic, which is mostly done by celestial but human priests could do that as well. It's still an interesting take but as a civilization if we set up a place of our own we could always start numerous pyres and cover the sky with smoke, like with that building from necropolis in H3.
>>
>>34038292
Lets just enslave literally everything, work them to death, and raise them again as zombies, to then work them into redeath, so that they may never know any fate but suffering
>>
Rolled 4

so who is the GM of this game..?
has an action been decided yet?
(vote for more skelies)
>>
>>34038343
Well, sure, undead don't tire and don't require food. They make better workers. But undead can't populate. They rely on the living.

If we manage our own little town it would be worthwhile to maintain and protect a living population that can have an economy and a healthy life. They'll pay taxes and do some chores, and trade with other nations (as undead aren't really well accepted) and when they die they serve in the death corps.

Mandatory for them to have large families.

It's a safety net to go with the constant sacking of neighboring areas.
>>
>>34038477
Anon is GM, I'm going out, you can take my vote until I return
>>
>>34037705
So with the help of his newly raised minions the lich arranges the skeleton parts into full human skeletons (it is at the moment not possible to create chimeric skeletons). And raise another 30 skeletons.
In the mean time the doors of the armory have fallen. Xak'ladrathanon and his 75 skeletons seek shelter for the day in the armory.
There are 150 Iron swords and many pikes and halberd but the wood of the long weapons have become brittle as have the leather straps of the armors. Nevertheless he manages to strap some armor parts to the skeletons.

For the future: with wood there can shafts be made and halberd /pikes be produced.

What do you want to do now(next night)?

In the northern outskirts of the city (you were to the south). There is some humidity from the old water systems and some bushes and hard short grass are clinging to life. This seems to be a regular place for caravans to stop before moving on through the endless sea of sand.

But tonight nothing is to be seen except tracks of yesterdays camp.

Parts of the City to explore

Central
: Library, Magistrate, Palace (including Xak'ladrathanons old rooms.), Temples, noble houses
cemetery’s of nobles (where we started), (other houses)
Merchant Quarters: Merchant houses, depots (mostly empty), (other houses)
Outskirts(west, south); many many skeletons.

Xak'ladrathanons is definitely not the first to rummage through all the remains of the city. The merchants must have sold most of their goods and what remained of worth was stolen or soiled by time. But there is nobody as paranoid as a merchant with money and so some concealed treasures have evaded the thieves but not your spell "finding the lost"
You find 3200 gold(and minor gems) as well as one large sapphire, two large rubys and one pound of onyx.
