>The more I look at it the more I think Tyranids are not as strong as people were initially saying. I think nids were just so used to being shit for so long that every single buff immediately jumped out at them and looked great, but they need them just to stay afloat, it doesn't look like it's actually pushing them to the top necessarily.

>Now this is just in terms of pure fighty value. They might turn out to be sick good at the objective game or something, but I don't think nids are going to be tabling other armies in 2-3 turns like the alarmists are crying about.

>If anything, it's Ork Boyz tabling you that you need to worry about. Carnifexes aren't really gonna do shit.

Why would they be bigger?

1.) most books generally are much smaller than 11' so it can't be said that DnD books are really small

2.) what would be the benefit of making them larger than 11'? given that you're not talking about thickness, you're not adding content just making the already existent content larger which would be pointless.

Lesse. He was prone to blowing himself up, was a nobmando with imperial, ork, and haemonculus augmentations.

He had various "gifts" from the chaos gods. He had claimed the sword of a mandrake imbued with a slaaneshi daemonette and a chain-axe with a blood hound in it from a world eater champion who boarded our ship and beat the shit out of the rest of the party.

He had armour taken from a nurglesh daemon entity. A giant worm 120 feet long and 30 feet wide. He fought it in a suit of orked up artificer power armour that was of huge size. It was a utility turned combat suit. That was fun. Than our Tzeentch worshipping navigator forced him to roll a mutation check vs some DM created mutation eye ray, and he ended up getting a pair of wings. That was his gift from tzeentch. Over and above that a plague champion ended up infecting him with... something. He went blow for blow with the plague champ for a good while, finally getting the upper hand when his allies showed up. Plague champ left a little of himself behind, unbeknownst to the party.

After that our magos biologis figured out how to use deldar drugs on his orkoid system (grinding up tyranid adrenaline glands apparently has quite a kick) and by the end of our two year campaign I was flying around at mach 1 flipping tanks and playing super heroes.

After the campaign he became a legendary freeboota looking for the biggest and baddest to throw down against.

He was more or less an ork warp daemon by that point.

Really silly stuff, but a lot of fun to develop.

Oh yeah, he took out a dreadnought by tying 20 kilos of explosives to a magnetic grappeling hook, and setting it to reel in automatically after he hooked the dreadnaught.

That was a fun session. DM didn't see it coming.

Haven't posted about it before, but I meant most dedicated, not the quickest learner

I'm a relatively new GM looking over the npc stat blocks and chargen rules for SMs in the 40k rpgs. I've got some questions.

Their ability to soak damage, the senses bonuses, gear, and organ bonuses all seem relatively consistent with the lore. But a lot of other stuff doesn't seem right. While I can understand the need for balance in 40k as a wargame, a number of factors seem too weak.

The WS and BS scores (both for NPCs and avg chargen values for BC SMs) seem low for superhuman killing machines w/ super reflexes. Normal PC base stats (DH/OW) range from 22 to 40 while the cream of the crop (RT/BC) range from 27 to 45. SM base stats are "only" from 32 to 50. This doesn't seem right compared to the fluff's talk of superior reflexes and attack speed.

Speaking of reflexes and speed, their Agl scores and movement seem low, NPC SMs averaging from 40 to 45 and PCs averaging around 40. This doesn't seem nearly as crazy as it should considering guardsman NPCs start with 35 and "mortal" PCs averaging 30 to 35. In addition their movement speeds seem low compared to the lore (though this can be semi-handwaved due to their wearing power armor and the black carapace bonuses).

Lastly, their strength seems subpar. 20 of their score comes from their power armor and their unnatural strength only factors into rolls if they succeed in BC, OW, and DH2. RAW, a SM npc w/o power armor only has a strength score of 40 to 45 and a PC again averages 40. There's a decent chance of losing a versus strength check to 35 Str guardsman, a far cry from the fluff where a SM could easily shatter a guard's hand with his own.

I'm not trying to be anal-retentive, I just want to give my group as much of a fluff-accurate experience as possible and all of them are HH readers. Am I missing something?

tl;dr the WS, BS, Str, and Agl scores of SMs don't seem nearly as jacked as they should be, and balance shouldn't take precedence over fluff in the rpg. How fix?

They scale quickly with the right talents. The Rank 3 Space Wolves Assault of one of my players can have over 100% on some tests. As for BS, you add in fulll-auto bonus and stuff like suspensors, etc. you are a walking killing machine.

>This doesn't seem right compared to the fluff's talk of superior reflexes and attack speed.
The difference is in the talents and the squad mode/solo mode capabilities.

>There's a decent chance of losing a versus strength check to 35 Str guardsman, a
True, the system has its flaws. But there is next to 0 chance that he loses a fist fight with said guardsman. Also, Unnatural Strength(x2) gives a bonus of +2 DoS on Opposed S tests. This can be buffed with Solo Mode abilites.

>How fix?
It would be too wide-ranging, you would have to do a homebrew from scratch.
>>
>>53576009
>They scale quickly with the right talents.
>The difference is in the talents and the squad mode/solo mode capabilities.

Could you give some examples of those talents? Also, how applicable would squad/solo abilities be to a BC SM?
>>
>>53576009
Isn't the losing a strength check thing unlikely because of unnatural strength adding some kind of bonus?

I've played D&D for years, but I want something different for my next campaign, and I've been hearing about Exalted forever. It sounds fun as hell, but also crazy complicated. Should I start looking for an Exalted game, or just stick to what I'm familiar with?

Pic related, I'm contemplating either Dawn or Zenith for a character.

Exalted is okay.
>>
>>53575652
You hear it's crazy complicated, and you hear correct. No matter what edition you play, the rules are much more trouble than they're worth and laid out in a way that makes them especially impenetrable. (My greatest pet peeve with the layout is how the description of every charm begins with one to three sentences of meaningless fluff amounting to "the Lawgivers are good at ability X" before telling you what the charm actually does.) Trap options are more plentiful than in any D&D game. All in all, Exalted takes a very fun-sounding premise (Dragonball Z in a wuxia setting where everyone is world-shatteringly powerful at character creation) and miraculously makes it un-fun.

Honestly, if the setting and premise appeal to you, then run it in some kind of generic system.

Is it possible to get so lost in the Warp that you eventually emerge in a different time but by a very large margin? Maybe even emerge in the past? Say you get the gist of it and you pump your Gellar Fields so that they actually hold somewhat more consistently and you try to visit different time periods for all sorts of fuckery or just desperately try to get back to your M. after a botched jump...

I was toying with an idea for a Rogue Trader campaign that would basically be Back to the Future 40K. Thoughts?

>Would you play one? Should you play one?
I couldn't think of a good concept around it. Bit snowflaky, but if you have a good idea that involves albino Drowness, why not?

>How would they be treated by their peers in the Underdark?
Aberrations. They're exiled, confined to ghettos or literally worked to death as slaves. Parents try to hide them the same way real world parents did (and many still do) with children who have some birth defect.
Naturally, harboring an albino is a crime equivalent to being one.

>How would they be treated by the surface folk?
However surface elves are treated, I don't think non-elves could tell the difference.
Surface elves would treat them like shit. Creatures so evil even Drow cast them away.

>What would be a good albino Drow nickname?
Drow call them Whites or Tainted. Surface elves would probably call them Spurious or Sneaks or something similar, as if they were trying to pass as surface elves. Other surface folk would probably just call them Knife-Ears, Daisy Eaters or Faggots, since they can't tell the difference.
