How flavourful are melee combat descriptions in your games? Do players care a lot about them or just stick to rolling dice?
I'm playing a fighter at the moment. At the start when I was low level I would describe my actions in detail whenever I attacked.
"I take the blade of my bastard sord in my hand and slam the crossguard into the guards face"
Ended up ripping his cheek apart and making an enemy for life... almost cut his hand off but the Gunslinger in our party pulled on me.
But now a good 8 levels later and now that I have a cohort and we make a cumulative three attacks a round, its easier to say "We lock our shields together and start to hack at the enemy" every turn.
I'd like to explain more attacks more... but I'm prepared to describe attacks against other humans with swords and shields not sentient giant wasps... how the fuck do you describe shanking a dragon with a sword.
I have a session today and I'll give it a try once again.
I think adding some flavour and description is infinitely better than just,
"I hit him with my sword"
*roll dice*
Some people take it too far at times though

>DM: You slice at the kobold and his head flies out into the stars as you flip through the air and land; blood spashing all around you in a red rain from heaven's sliced heart.
>player: cool, so he killed a kobold. Can I go now?
Should space marines really be piloting their aircraft (and ground vehicles)? their numbers are pretty limited and most of their training and experience is in ground infantry fighting
do/should they have dedicated pilots? would it make more sense to have recruits or techmarines doing all the vehicle shit?
>>53588011
>and most of their training and experience is in ground infantry fighting
The pilots get piloting training, duh.
They're better than humans because of their superhuman reflexes and bodies. Yeah it sucks you have to waste marines to pilot the vehicles but whatever
>>53588011
Pilots and drivers is how Chapters pad their numbers now.
>>53588011
It would make more sense to use chapter serfs for that.

Alright kids, time for an update on Traveller.
Currently we have 48 slots for the final completed companion PDF to be filled in, to be fair I'm going to take everything, narrow it down to 150 characters and from there we're gonna have a vote to see who gets in. Character Collecting will be done June 20th at the stroke of midnight. From there I'll be working on the 2.0 which will include a Otate moral system and a few other additions. Everything not put in will be stored for future use. As will anything submitted from after that point. I'm also taking any suggestions so feel free to drop me a line.
God speed anons.

Topic question:
Aside from casters, how important are familiars and pets to your characters? Have they accomplished anything on their own or are they merely decoration?

I'd like to give a shout-out to all my /pgg/as for keepin' it real
I'm working on a neo-feudal post-apocalyptic setting with rampant schizo tech and I desperately need inspiration. Post Historical Anachronisms, and I guess whatever else you feel like as long as it's vaguely apocalyptic. I'm going to be dumping a dozen-odd pics I've collected.

What is coming out that isn't stuck in development hell, a rehash of previous systems, or some kind of indie garbage with narrativism? Song of Swords is just as shit as ever, Eclipse Phase 2E is ruining the game, KULT decided to become yet another Apocalypse World hack, as every other game. People rave about the laziest game ever, Blades in the Dark. Why do people put up with this? What happened conflict resolution that's meaningful? The renaissance of games after people got sick of Dungeons and Dragon's simplistic combat. We had Riddle of Steel, which made such waves it's still echoing. Not to mention Aces & Eights, GURPs, and other games. Now GURPs has its problems, but at least it was an attempt that was ambitious and has never tried aiming low, always high. What about fantasy? What isn't a dark fantasy rip-off, people?

Wow. This may be the first unboxing I am genuinely excited about. Usually they are stupid mtg ones.
We get it, you bought a bunch of cardboard squares!
Why does /tg/ suck so bad at designing characters?
because it is design by committee.

No such thing!
We all love worldbuilding
But to get good at worldbuilding we must learn to see and fix inconsistencies. Why is that magic not used to produce food, why evil lord not conquered everything already, how come PC increase their level faster then anyone else?
So I propose a challenge. Let's take a setting full of problems. Naruto ninja world. Pin point what makes the setting suck and then other anons will tell how to fix said points.

Reincarnation being literal. Tails Beast being so easy to get on your side. The advanced level eye bullshit.
Advanced meaning more than the Sharingan letting you copying and the Byakugan's special sight.
Also power levels going too far.
>>53581665
>Reincarnation being literal
Someone was reincarnated in Naruto?
Tails Beast should be the power level ceiling.
Not sure how to fix eyebullshit.
>>53582336
The way to fix eye shit is to keep it reasonable
The sharingan only does the tracking shit and maybe the unaffected by genjustu shit
