I've been looking to get into tabletop games like DnD and the like, but am unsure where to start.
Are there any particular casual ones I can play with friends to get a basis for the genre before diving into the more extreme stuff?
I was hoping for something sci-fi, but whatever is fine.
>>53685310
Unfortunately, your best bet is to play DnD 5th edition. In generall, all editions and derivatives of DnD is a heaping pile of trash, but if you don't know anyone else IRL that can ease you into the hobby, it's probably your best bet.
Your future goal is to become proficient enough at tabletop rpgs for you to move away from DnD and play a better game. You're probably gonna want to learn a bit about shadowrun, since its one of the more popular rpgs that can be called "something sci-fi."
>>53685310
Ryuutama is a good starting point for fantasy, being designed as a beginners' RPG and all. No idea about Sci-Fi, though.
Stay away from D&D 5e. Its only redeeming quality is its large playerbase resulting solely from brand recognition, not any quality on the system's part.
>>53685310
Start with Micro-RPGs, something focusing actual Role-Playing with minimal mechanics.

These games are small enough you can introduce your friends, or complete strangers, to the concept of Role Playing without drowning in rules and fiddly bits! Its not Dungeons and Dragons, but D&D isn't casual either.
No WIP thread on /tg/?!? Emperor's Teeth! That's HERESY!!!

Thoughts on this base for my 40k Warlord? He comes with a plain base and I didn't want to make a plain base with tufts and rubble and regret it later.
I think this is a Sigmarine base or something from the AoS Hero Bases box, some kind of lion face or stardrake or something. The 40K Hero Bases didn't look heroic enough. A stairway? An oil drum? A broken Leman Russ turret? This base looks properly heroic. Unfortunately I don't play Dark Angels or Celestial Lions or Salamanders or something like that, so the base will have absolutely nothing to do with my chapter's identity, but it still looks neat I think.
Too tacky to use AoS base for 40k?
Cant decide whether to paint space marine weapons and trim in brighter shades for the nice contrast, or more dark and matte to favor military realism.

SHOULD I PAINT MY BOLTERS CAMO FOR MY IMPERIAL FISTS GUYS
I'm looking for something a little different, in that I want art that captures the feeling of a situation and the characters aren't as important. Specifically, stuff like pic related that give the feeling of either "defiant to the end" or "I'm not done yet." Anything you've got that features a character bloody, beaten, and bruised, but either still swinging or on the ground refusing to submit. I don't have much, but I'll try to post what I have.
Feel free to request your own situational art.
Incidentally, Revenants types returning from death by sheer will are cool too.
How does /tg/ like their centaurs?
I prefer the graceful, if haughty, centaurs that act as a stand in for exaggeratedly good historical knights. Following a strict moral code of honor.
further world building questions:
How does a centaur sleep?
Are they allowed inside of inns?
What do they spend gold on?How receptive are they to interspecies relationships?
I find centaurs in a modern setting really interesting
>>53681680
How would they travel long distances?
It seems like most common vehicles like buses or cars would have problems holding a horse person.

I was hoping for a bit more fanfare, given the build up to the hours and the opening of the gate.
Also was pretty depressing that the gods had zero ability to reply bolas.
Yeah him just casually deleting them was pretty lame.
Also posting the rest of the art in the article.

Nope

Nope.

Nope

here a good way to start the thread, name one unit /tg/ thinks has gone from "zero to hero" in the jump from 7th- 8th
Hey /tg/! I'm looking for maps for a modern setting, specifically, I'm on the hunt for hospital interiors.

They still are in 40k, they're part of the Imperial Guard now. Read the new index, it mentions squats by name as being recruited into Imperial Guard regiments. Most people haven't seen those pages because the guy who uploaded the index pages skipped a lot of the fluff pages entirely when doing his scan.
Essentially their numbers are too low for a proper codex and the admech/inquisition nicked all their good gear, or they keep it to defend their homeworlds since resupplying a regiment halfway across the galaxy would be too difficult. Take your pick.
the king has been lying on his deathbed for months with a disease that can not be cured
his eldest son died in battle against a rival country, his other 2 sons were lost at sea on a trading expedition. his only remaining child is his 2 year old daughter who is betrothed to a distant duke.
the kingdom is run under agnatic seniority succession
each of his dukes believe they should become the new king.
the first duke is an experienced man who has been ruling since the king was still in his cradle.
his lands are rich and he has led campaigns to protect and expand the kingdom. his subjects love him and he has established a level of loyalty among the nobility, but foreign leaders see him as too aggressive and unwilling to cooperate with anyone. and on top of all that he is 85 and unable walk without assistance.
the next duke is about 19 and has just inherited his title from his father who is the king's distant relative. he has experience fighting in wars but no experience leading. hes know to be a deeply pious man and has openly called to retake land lost in a holy war.
the last duke is 32 and is a hunchback and has been racked with pneumonia since he was a child. he has served on the council for years and pushed for major reforms to "take power out of the hand of nobles and priests, and give the peasantry more freedom" foreign leaders see him as a persuasive man and has kept an amicable relationship with several leaders. he holds the smallest dutchy and his subject have been plagued by perpetual famine.
who takes power in this situation?
My dick.
>>53695091
>who takes power in this situation?
The PCs do. After declaring regency for the young lady.
>>53695091
First distant duke is fucked. He either will break betrothal willingly or die by assassination. Or through war. Though it will happen a little later because right now king still has a few trusted people to ship his daughter to a duke he chooses.
Biggest problem is that the Old Duke can just take the daughter and no one will be able to do anything while he is still alive.
Which leads to a more important question - does Old Duke have any grandsons that are not imbeciles or bloodthirsty maniacs? Cause if he does king should make a couple of deals with Old Duke. Mostly about choosing the best successor and making sure others won't be able to mess it up.
