Weak bait that relies on its "victims" not to do any research or an OP that didn't bother to read the synopsis and leapt at the title. The novel is about the Fall of Cadia.

Though according to the 8e previews, Cadia is still around and the Imperium wants it back.

There was a quest thread that had a better setting. We should have more quest threads on this board.

Dark souls 3 is a terrible setting. Geography is just "lol time and space are convoluted, here's a city that spontaneously grew a mountain under it", the lore is "copy dark souls 1 but worse, and forget that everyone forgot everything in dark souls 2", nothing makes sense and a fucking painting is apparently where we all need to escape to to prevent entropy or something.

Ds1 was a great setting. Ds2 could make an interesting campaign. Ds3 only works as a nostalgia roadshow.

Now Bloodborne. Bloodborne is where it's at.

I have never played Paranoia before, and think I may start with this one. Everything I've read about running a game seems to openly encourage discarding most of the rules, so these newly physical elements might help my boardgame group ease into the experience.

if I remember correctly, the rules in troubleshooters were basically “the dm secretly rolls a d20 and does whatever he wants”

Primordial Evolution. It was a screaming choir of madness involving a rotating assembly of GMs that lasted over 4 years on /tg/, and still the embers flicker.
>>
Everyone was a borrower living on an island in a lake, with a city built in an overturned rowing boat and up the side of an old split open oak tree.

There was a rough electric fence powered by an ancient old car battery, and when it broke all manner of foxes and badgers and rats attacked.

The quest was top take a boat (a toy sail boat ) and head into the storm drain ,make their way into the city and find a new battery before the small cities defences gave out.

It's still my favourite campaign setting, But it was ruined by a fucking edgelord shitbag of a player who couldn't into team roleplay so i had to kill her.

My group switched from 5e to PF over spring break, against my advice.
I decided that hey, I know this system inside and out, I'll help everybody build characters over spring break. Had the GM send everybody my contact info with an open "anytime is fine".
Nobody took me up on it. Ok.jpg.

First session of PF, three people have to make characters on the spot, one winds up playing their 5e character unported. DM bitches that I have a +24 to stealth at level 4. Am told to change my character. Ok.jpg.
Third session of PF, two people in the group have complained to me about balance because they don't like their character. The rest of the group is complaining about the Summoner. 5e character still not replaced with a PF character.
Most recent session, two months of play. Person who was playing a 5e character has another player help make a PF character. I'm utterly unsure why I wasn't asked to help TWO FUCKING MONTHS ago. Rogue player is bitching to me about his inability to fight gud without blowing all his feats, still doesn't want to do chargen with me. GM runs a 4-hour combat that we don't even finish because there's four (FOUR) NPCs, a dozen enemies, and half the spells the NPCs are casting have to be looked up.

I just fucking wish people would call on me for help with chargen, because I can actually help DO shit. I don't know if they all thought "Oh, 5e character was easy, PF will be easy too oh shit" or if they're just lazy or what, but it's pissing me off that nobody's using the resource I'm offering.

I was asking about sundering in the last thread, because I noticed that if you have a very high DR *and* shield supremacy (where you can ignore AP = to your amount of combat feats), you're practically invulnerable. So sundering the guys shield would pretty much be necessary to hurt him.
40 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>53695102
Dwarf fitted platemail with heavy fittings = DR 8
Armor supremacy = DR 10
:fitted + feat = defense penalty/acp -2
One step ahead = DR 11
Fortunes of War 12/13/14(or 13/15/17)

Then for defense, the soldier has an average score, +5 from a tower shield (shield supremacy), +1-5 from armor use, and then portable cover at levels 10 and 20 for a solidly good defense score

(certain priest domains, like metal, can make this even worse, as can the metal elemental bloodline and the paladin expert class)

So, how can a DM or player overcome this?

If it weren't for the shield mastery benefit of decreasing AP by your # of melee feats (even worse on a fighter soldier), you can get high AP or high damage (assassin + stilletto, a large-scale maul or warhammer on a large character with hammer basics, a rune knight with slicing rune; certain priest builds can have extreme damage bonuses) and maybe sprawl the soldier and go to town, but the shield things kinda negates a lot of that. Armor supremacy also negates using sneak attack to beat his DR. And you can't just use called shot, because his defense is also very good. So I'm thinking you'd have to sunder his shield (can't if he has the metal path maxed out), probably with said large character and hammer mastery. You could try using acid damage to destroy his armor and shield, if you have a source of it.

I'm still not sure how you get to target a shield, exactly.
>>
>>53696269
From page 206:
"An object’s Defense is equal to 5 + its Size modifier (if stationary), 10 + its Size modifier (if moving), or its holder’s total Defense bonus + its Size modifier (if carried)."

You just attack objects like you can attack anything else. Even if they are carried. It only seems weird because it's a special 'sunder' action in most 3.x products. There's also the Sundering Chop trick from the axe feat tree, which allows you to deal the damage of your attack against both your target and one piece of gear that they are carrying.
>>
>>53696269
Damage reduction has no effect on falling damage! Which can be a nasty surprise for players who are used to not taking damage.

Previous thread >>53676330
Since the dawn of time, the armies of Heaven and Hell Have waged an endless war. Drawn to the conflict was the Charred Council, an entity bound by ancient laws to preserve order and balance. It held that any great power, unchecked, threatened the very fabric of the universe. In time, Heaven and Hell came to honour the Council and its laws, for none were beyond the swift and terrible justice of the Council's enforcers - a fearsome brotherhood known as the Four Horsemen.

Amid the turmoil, the first humans emerged. The Council foretold that these weak, but cunning creatures would someday be integral to the Balance. Thus a third kingdom was named - the Kingdom of Man. By order of the Council, a truce was forged between Heaven and Hell. The great pact was bound by Seven Seals, to be broken at the appointed time - when Man's kingdom stood ready for the Endwar - a battle that would bring balance, and determine the ultimate fate of the three kingdoms.

>>
>>53694846
But the Third Kingdom was betrayed. The Endwar was begun before the Seven Seals were broken and humanity, still ill-prepared for the Apocalypse, was obliterated. In the ensuing conflict it was Hell that ultimately triumphed over Heaven, some say thanks to the direct intervention of the Horseman War. Now the Earth is the Destroyer’s Kingdom and home to the demons of hell, monstrous creatures of the Abyss, and other, stranger beings. Heaven’s army, the Hellguard, who were exiled from the White City for their part in the Endwar, continue their doomed crusade, hoping that the last of the White City’s shame might die with them. And, in the ruins of the Earth, the last, desperate humans cling to survival on the periphery, knowing that Man will not see out another century.

The Apocalypse touches the realms far beyond earth: The Kingdom of the Dead is overrun by billions of lost souls but suffers under a ruler who cares little for his subjects; The Forge Lands teeter on the brink of destruction, threatened by the engulfing power of the Abyss beyond and unholy Corruption within; and from the Shadows ancient beasts and mad lords emerge to exploit the chaos. At the centre of creation The Charred Council sees all; it still sends forth its most fearsome agents to find those responsible for destroying the Balance and punish them, be they Sons of Man, Lords of Heaven, or the Dregs of Hell. Perhaps the Horseman still stand with them, perhaps they do not. Few would dare ask, even if they knew where to find them...

Campaign ideas and plot hooks. Could use some work.
>Set after The End War
>Other Humans survived The End War like The Hunter, others could have made deals with different Demons (including Vulgrim, Samiel or the Chosen), Angels (like Uriel), or one of the many Old Ones (like Ostegoth or Ulthane), allowing Heroic Human characters.
>All the Horsemen appeared during the end war and were accused of starting it early. Stay have since gone on the run to prove their innocence and may have even split up to cover more leads / make harder to track.

The Charred Council are recruiting capable and power warriors from across the realms, Angel, Demon, Old One, Undead.
>Hunt down the traitorous Horsemen.
>Find this mysterious Destroyer, determine how it was able to turn the Horsemen against the balance and lead the hordes of the Abyss to crush the armies of the White City.
>Patrol Earth, stop the depredations of the Demons and unceasing fury of the Angels, find any surviving Humans and protect what's left of the Third kingdom.

Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1977. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

The "humble" shotgun. Light & cheap with cheap ammo. Has a really low DEX penalty of 4 and a relatively low DEX advantage of 9. Good at short & medium ranges. Good against jack armor, not penalized too much against mesh. 4D6 damage.

Mega's addition of different loads made the shotgun even more attractive IMHO.

We also talk about Wild Talents edition

This is a thread for discussing Monsters and Other Childish Things, Wild Talents, Reign and any other games built on Greg Stolze's One Roll Engine.

>***The System
Roll some d10s. Find matches. The number of matching dice is your Width. The number ON the dice is your Height. So a Set of [5,5,5] has a Width of 3 and a Height of 5, written as 3x5. That's it. Width and Height tell you a lot about your action, such as how fast it was, how strong it was, how precise it was, etc. Everything in the system is built around this fast, simple mechanic.

>***The Games

>Nemesis
A game about cosmic horror using the Madness system invented and popularized by Unknown Armies. It's available for free on ArcDream's website here: http://www.arcdream.com/pdf/Nemesis.pdf

>Godlike
Superhero roleplaying during World War II. Fight supersonic Nazis and invisible French knife maniacs in a brutal setting where you're equally likely to be killed by a mortar blast as from a supervillain.

>Wild Talents
The sequel to Godlike, blowing the doors of the system to let you create any superpower you can imagine. /tg's favorite ORE game.

>Monsters and Other Childish Things
You're a kid with an imaginary monster friend who's real, and you have adventures. Converts nicely to Jojo and Persona.

>Reign
High fantasy roleplaying in a crazy world that would need to have an entire post just about it.

>A Dirty World
Noir at its best. Relentlessly focused on character growth and psychology. A much lighter system than the others.

>Better Angels
You're a supervillain whose power comes from a contract with a demon. Try not to get dragged to hell.

Salum would probably assist the Gatewatch. None of the flakes would probably assist Bolas.

Fuar Linn is blatantly a ridiculous meta joke and a plot device, so obviously he'd be an archenemy. If he wants to make planeswalkers fight one another to prove their worth so he knows that they are worth fighting, then he surely could get himself into a problem where he has to fight a few at once.

Here's a Scheme that I brewed up for him.

Reposting invicibird from last thread.

Actually made before Amonkhet was released, and I was super worried that my idea for an egyptian birdwalker wouldn't fit with it, but it turned out fine.
