>All gods were mortals, like sigmar from fantasy.

Would this have a great influence on religions?

Jesus was literally a mortal
>>
>>53917744

There are gods from China and Japan who were mortals before becoming gods. That said, those religions also have gods who were always divine since primordial times, but it is still useful for inspiration.

I think a setting where ALL gods were mortal and everyone knows it would probably have some kind of atheistic creation myths/legends.

Other specifics could vary a lot. Is there a certain high threshhold you have to meet to be a god, or can you get very minor gods like the god of a specific well or crossroads (little more than a protector spirit)? Is the afterlife full of many different ranks of deity, or do only a few meet the cut (with other mortals reincarnating or meeting oblivion)?
>>

>All gods were mortals
See: Exalted
Not a perfect example for sure, but the Exalted are basically gods to the common man in their own setting. To be honest this is how the religions work in my homebrew setting, although the fact that mortals can become gods is a very closely guarded secret so every upstart and their cousin doesn't try to. Basically it works as thus:
>Hero/Politician/Person of Importance attains fame for some deed
>People begin to idolize this important person because of said deed, making them into a Saint
>The idolization and faith of their peers imparts a power that actually improves their skills and abilities, but will also magnify their weaknesses and flaws
>With enough faith this Saint becomes Timeless, becoming unaffected by the weight of time and decay
>However the faith and interest of mortals is a fickle thing, and unless one can assert and maintain their supporter's faith, they will dwindle back to mortality and ultimately fade into non-existance should they be forgotten
Hundreds upon thousands of gods have been created and erased through these methods, but you never hear about the Old Gods, the ones time and tale forgot, or more commonly scrubbed from the history books by the New Gods when they take power, but perhaps that's for the best, since an Old God brought back to life by the belief of mortals can be a twisted and terrible thing indeed.

Vampires are literally in Call of Cthulhu.

Darkest Dungeon had plenty of classic dark fantasy stuff aside from the cosmic horror. This is nothing strange when there are also simple necromancers and skelly armies.

Anything can be interesting anon, it depends on how you execute it. The main question is where and when the focus of the setting would be.

Somewhere in the USA or Canada, shortly after the eruption, dealing with the rapid breakdown of society and the environment? That would lend itself well to a disaster movie kind of story, small groups of ordinary people suddenly fighting to survive as the world falls apart around them.

If you wait longer you have a kind of post-apocalyptic scenario in the United States. Masked scavengers scratching a living in cities half-buried in ash, raider gangs driving around on snowmobiles, that kind of thing. People settling in and learning to live with it.

Elsewhere in the world might see a breakdown of international order as countries fight for increasingly scarce resources. It could make a pretty tense setting, as the situation grows slowly worse and people realize there isn't enough food left to support the global population and start to get desperate.

I've been away from all things /tg/ for a couple of months, and just returned.

So I'm guessing this thing was just a flavor of the month? No threads on /tg/ for a long time now.

Shame, I was getting interested.

If a thread isn't up, just make one. SWA is being heavily overshadowed by 8e right now but there's definitely folk here wishing to discuss it from time to time- just don't expect the threads to get bumped more than once per hourish.

My local scene is currently enjoying utter chaos as we started a league on the 15th and now...8e is out.

I'd play a hell of a lot more if I wasn't a 45 minute drive away from my flgs.
>>
>>53917274
I really like Shadow War; the attachment you get to your squad as they grow through the campaign is great.

My local group is full on 8e right now; no love for Shadow War at all which is disappointing.

What is this even? Modern Necromunda?

What are some "Fuck you" curses in your game?
Nonsensical and random curses that are really inconvenient.
Such as:
>Never able to write the letter o
>Every time you see a well you get a raging erection
>Can't say the word Sword
>Everytime you piss you zone out and see the gods doing their day to day business
So I ask you /tg/, what are the "Fuck you" curses you can think of?

Could /tg/ please give me a hand?

I've been struggling to come with ideas for parasites/symbiotes/icky creatures that live in your body but can "improve" you.

So far I've come with eight of them. If possible, keep it unrelated with magic.
(thx in advance)

Bioluminescent bacteria activate from a region of your body when they receive a stimulus.
Hungry skin mites clear your body of toxins and contaminants quickly.
Tape worm releases steroidal bursts into its host when it senses you are in danger.
Tiny hermit crabs burrow into your teeth to use as shells. They release a painkilling sedative to accomplish this, it's also released when you grit your teeth too hard.
Bone worms build a stronger lattice casing in the outer layers of your bones to make their homes safer.
Spine beetles hijack your nervous system if you're KO'd intending on getting you to safety.
>>
an octopus that completely replaces your skeletal system and turns your body just as rubbery as it is; turning you into a wacky wavy incredible tube arm man/woman. Comes with bonus color changing abilities.

Memory parasites that attach to the brain. Each contains certain memories and, if detached and reatached carefully, can be used to transfer them between hosts. The memories are very detailed and clear, but only when the parasite is attached to the host. Otherwise the host will only have vaguer recollections of them, a memory of a memory.

A disciplined mind can implant a 'blank' newly-spawned parasite with specific memories. There is a limit to how much any single parasite can hold (set by the needs of the plot or setting).

Let's all agree that the Gathering Storm lore is absolute horseshit. You've got chaos being shafted again via having to resort to crashing a Blackstone Fortress into Cadia and destroying the pylons (the reason Chaos and the Imperium contested Cadia in the first place), instead of, I don't know, having Fulgrim introduce what amounts to Chaos Primaris Marines (the guy's been trying to do what Cawl did for the same amount of time) that take Cadia, with the Imperium destroying Cadia as a scorched earth tactic (and unleashing the massive warp tear upon themselves, the irony would've been fitting). They should've fleshed out the Ynnari characters before introducing the faction itself (so that we actually cared about what was happening when the Fracture of Biel-Tan came around, aside from the fracture itself). The events of Rise of the Primarch are clunky as hell and written like fanfiction (Not Ward levels, but still), the events should've went into more detail and the few details presented should've been different. For example, Magnus attacking Guilliman on Luna? Never should've even happened, it served no point in the plot and was just "WE GOTTA PAD OUT EVERY LAYER OF THIS WITH POINTLESS BATTLES" on the part of the writers. I do expect the events to be touched upon later and refined/retconned into something (hopefully) better. Should've been written like the IA and Horus Heresy books, like historical, unbiased analyses of the events occurring, filled to the brim with details.

I'm sorry about the rant. But most of GW's writers don't know how to properly write this shit.

>>

Well you are more coherent and make a better argument than the last guy I saw slamming it. Care to give us your superior envisioning of what should have happened?
>>
>>53916547
I think the most bullshit part of the Gathering Storm lore is the "JUST AS PLANNED" bullshit they pulled with the previous 12 Black Crusades.

I mean, I can't see any way that the 11th Crusade was one gigantic clusterfuck of failure. Abbadon not only failed to navigate another way out of the Eye of Terror and avoid Cadia, he tried and failed to take a cardinal world and ended up getting chased off by an Ork Waaagh! of a literal nobody warboss that was conquering the planet at the time.

There is no way in hell that was 'just as planned'.

I played myself with a minor name change in a one-shot zombie survival game. It worked out fine because I didn't have any powertrip agenda or anything

>overpowered Mary Sue bullshit
Played a Harlequin-Incubus cross in a 40k forum freeform RPG over a decade ago. Everyone else was RPing whole armies, I had a single ultra-elite guy with a mix of Incubus and Harlequin gear. While the character was the typical "teleports behind you and stabs you with a punisher" type shit, to be fair I only used it for shenanigans like interfering in other players' fights by tossing hallucinogen grenades everywhere. I don't think I ever killed an actual named character. I was That Guy, but at least not a powertripping self-fellator.

Actually treated them as sons instead of tools. Been honest with them. Tried to deal with the whole Angron issue better. Talked things through with Lorgar properly. Done something about Erebus and Kor Phaeron. Encouraged Konrad Curze to put up a real government on his homeworld. Actually taught the people about daemons and shit instead of keeping them hidden. Chilled a bit.
