What a great game.

As someone who doesn't particularly like D&D, this complaint is nothing to do with the system. It's an issue which plagues basically every attempt to do mystery stuff in games without a reasonable change in philosophy or playing GUMSHOE.
>>54198949
>take 20
>>54198949
That's an issue with adventure design, not the system.
Let's say a part of that 4th sphere expansion fleet exited the warp right above modern earth. They sent their ambassadors down but we refused, and now the Tau plan to conquer us. Could we fight them off?
>>54198097
No, because every faction in the 40k universe outclasses everything we can and have
We can't travel between the stars, everyone in 40k can, that alone should give you insight in the tech disparity
>>54198097
Highly unlikely even if the T'au abstain from orbital bombardment.
>>54198097
They're space age. What the fuck do you think?
Has anyone ever actually played this? If so, why?
I will admit that the system seems interesting, but the subject matter just isn't appealing in the least. Why would you want to play not!mormons in fantasy not!utah?
>>54197168
Those coats look bitching.
>>54197168
The Mormons were pretty fucking metal Midwestern religious zealot viking raiders at one point is why.
>>54197168
I actually played a session of this back in the day. It was really fun, but I think it's because that GM was very skilled.
We were in charge of delivering this book to an old hermit that lived beneath a dead oak tree in the desert. On the way there, we were attacked by bandits and "shadows" and all sorts of crazy things. When we almost arrived, a man calling himself "The Snake Oiled Salesman" told us that the book was "As blank as a blind man's bible" and that we were really sent in the direction in hopes that we'd get killed.
There was some argument and debate over the book, before eventually someone ripped it open to see that it was indeed just a blank journal. We continued to journey on and eventually came to the dead oak tree, there was no one there, but after searching the area we found a "harlot's trunk", which was a chest full of useless stuff. Among the junk we found a tarot card deck.
We started to head back to town, and decided to rest for the night. We sat down and were looking through the loot we retrieved from the trunk again. One of the characters looked through the tarot deck and found that the Hermit card was a picture that resembled the Snake Oiled Salesman.
All of it was really symbolic and esoteric. I don't imagine it could be used to run a campaign with, though.

Working on a new DC Dreadnought. Still working on the exact bits I'll use for him though.
Just a rough test mock-up currently.
So is there a way for a Renegades list to work with the current rules? I'm halfway through converting a 500 point force, I'm hoping I can make it work.
So how's the new edition working out?
Which is objectively superior based on your own personal bias?
Which of the two better represents the pinnacle of magic in your mind?
Assume both are gender exclusive, respectively.
Wizards.
To me "witch" conjures up an images of a withered old lady hunched over a cauldron chanting a love spell or a curse or something.
Not really that impressive in terms of power.
Wizards are college students who achieved their diploma through hard work and study at an academy.
Witchs are homeschooled.
>>54195832
witches conjure up images of people who made a pact with a supernatural being to gain magic powers. Wizard conjures up an image of a man who unraveled the secrets of the universe and doesn't need help from a higher power.
If I wore one boot of haste, and another boot of leaping, would I get both powers? Or would one foot be really fast and I could only leap high with the other foot?
>>54195647
You would get neither, you have to wear the whole set.
>>54195647
>Zrrrrrrmmmm BOING [snap]
>>54195647
You get both powers, but they always stop working when they would actually be useful to you.

Late night comfy thread. As you are gathered around the fire what does your character do to entertain the rest of the party? Encouraging stories of past glories? Ghost stories? A fine meal? What?

What are some good weakness that could be given to a race of machines so as to avoid making them overpowered?
>>54195178
This depends a lot on what other races are around and what their capabilities/weaknesses are.
>>54195178

>>54195178
high energy consumption, no touch reception, no magic or resistance against the supernatural if any exists in your setting, heavy weight, and random mechanical malfunctions (which could be hilarious in the right situation).
Hey, /tg/, I've a question.
Say you or one of your players wanted to play a strong man character but did not allocate what you could consider a high strength score to that stat. Would you allow a character to look like pic related with a less than stellar stat?
Does your appearance have to match stats?
Depends on the game's system and tone. If it's whimsical and/or not very crunch-heavy, I'd be okay with characters' appearances and stat lines not matching up. A burly strongman who turns out to be an absolute pussy when it comes time to show up is a funny motif. If we're playing something like a 40k RPG or the Riddle of Steel, probably not.
>>54194934
Depends on the game
If I was playing 3.5e or pathfinder I would want him to have 18 strength for accuracy. But in balanced campaigns, it doesnt matter
But put it this way. If you're a normal guy, str 10. Above average, str 12. Very strong, works out, str 14. I would accept that appearance from str 14-15 and over as a GM
I don't require physical appearance to match up to stats as long as either
1. The score is above average enough that I can look the other way. OR
2. The stat is HIGHER then the appearance.
For instance in 5e I'd allow OP pic for as little as 14 STR, and I'd allow a 10 year old boy with 18 STR to not look remotely muscular.
So I've noticed a lot of meme-wanking over the prospect of an all infantry guard-horde, specifically an all infantry guard-horde made of conscripts and commissars.
This is, actually, nothing new. Back in 3rd (which, if I do say myself is the closest of the previous editions to 8th) the prospect of an all-infantry guard horde was terrifying. Now it's because templates have been removed entirely, conscripts are dirt-cheap, and all the new FOC charts basically let you spam whatever is the most effective slot for your army. Back then it was because BIG templates were actually hard to fit into the old FOC (most armies couldn't even get them at all, and those that could could fit one pie-plate per heavy-support, which meant a maximum of three pie-plates per FOC, snf you usually only got 1 FOC back then) and because the platoon structure let you take fit WAAAAAY more individual models into a single troop selection than any other army. Yes, back then, a horde of infantry guard, with enough AT-support to pop a transport or two, was theoretically unbeatable. However, it almost always stayed entirely theoretical for reasons that 100% still apply... and will explain to you in the next post because too long.
>>54194498
There are two kinds of armies: friendly armies to play with friends, and WAAC tournament lists. Obviously, both in 3rd and 8th, nobody is going to bring a 300-600 infantry guard horde unless they intend to quickly have nobody to play friendly games with. Even those who can have fun playing against an army they can't beat (very 40k actually, hopeless last stand for tha emprah and all that) can't have fun against someone who's model movement alone takes much longer than regular army's turns, not to mention rolling that literal bucket of dice for a shooting phase.
>But what about WAAC tournament lists?
What about them? Have you ever been to a tournament that didn't have a time limit either on turns or on games, because I haven't. Good luck placing in a tournament when you can't actually finish a single game.
So, they're not good for friendly games, they're not good for tournaments... what are they good for? Just meme-ing on 4chan I guess.
might be fun for small point games. You think they'd be more balanced or less balanced in small games?
>>54194566

Fuck those guys.
Ok /tg/ I have a problem, its my first time dming, playing pathfinder with my friends but one of them (the previous dm) made a stupid half undead scythe wielding fighter with a magical, invulnerable talking bird friend. I made clear beforehand that people weren't supposed to use third party books without asking, the setting was one I made myself where were mostly fighting demons and undead barely exist. Im trying to run a serious campaign but this guy whips out huge 30 damage scythe hits at level one with a plus 9 to attack bonus, still hasn't shown me his sheet once, and made up a huge epic wish fulfilment backstory. I don't know what to do should I take away his fun, make him make a new character all together. Im pretty sure “Jack Patches” will need to be mechanically adjusted. These huge hits and the stupid bird are definitely some bullshit I did not allow.
>>54194329
So whats the problem? It sounds like you know you need to talk to him
>>54194329
Everyone's pretty much going to tell you the same thing: man up and talk to him. If he still refuses to show you his character sheet or play by your rules, he's not your player.
>>54194342
I guess the problem is how to let him down, hes so far totally ignored every rule I set out and mad
e something dumb.
The imperium intercepts a tyranid tendril fleet, and baits them to a huge planet populated by this motherfucker and allll the monsters in all his movies, all at their most powerful of incarnations. They all drop their previous animosities and work together to fight the nids. Now does a vast armada of hunger win out, or stupid rediculous plot armor prevail?
