It is 151 years since the Battle of Königgrätz (also known as the Battle of Sadowa, Sadová, or Hradec Králové), the decisive battle of the Austro-Prussian War, in which the Kingdom of Prussia defeated the Austrian Empire. Taking place near Königgrätz (Hradec Králové) and Sadowa (Sadová) in Bohemia, it was an example of battlefield concentration, a convergence of multiple units at the same location to trap and/or destroy an enemy force between them.

Austrian forces on the Bohemian front numbered about 240,000 men, who were equipped with muzzle-loading rifles and relied heavily on the bayonet charge. Their recently appointed commander, General Ludwig August, Ritter von Benedek, had accepted the post with reluctance because of his unfamiliarity with both troops and local terrain. The Prussian forces, totaling some 285,000 men, were deployed mainly in three armies ranging in a 270-mile-long arc, from the border of Saxony to Silesia, under the general command of the chief of the general staff, Helmuth von Moltke, who was to test his new theories and methods in the encounter. The Prussian troops were armed with breech-loading needle guns and for the first time in European warfare fully enjoyed the advantages of railroad transport.

After a series of local successes in the field, Moltke was able to unite the three armies on July 1. Because Prussian reconnaissance was faulty and Benedek was searching for better ground, both forces joined battle on July 3 from unfavourable positions. The Austrians lost about 45,000 men, nearly half that number having been taken prisoner, while the Prussians lost fewer than 10,000. Benedek’s retreat to the southeast and the Prussians’ failure to pursue allowed the Austrians to regroup at Olmütz (Olomouc) in Moravia.

Eh, I don't know.
I feel like the gladistor thing is somewhat the fault of the system; there's no way to gauge a given thing's strength since there's no objective measurement reference; power is based on arbitrary levels. Kind of a dick move not to telegraph it somehow though.

The rest, though, is clearly your fault. You robbed a shopkeeper and hit him with some spell, so he called the guards on you. You were going to derail his adventure, and he panicked and tried to set it back on track. In the end, he threw you a hook, which you refused to bite half because it was terrible, half because your character is a murderhobo.

If you don't want to play with this dude, just don't play with him.

These reeks of a new DM on a power trip. That being said, this is all pretty par for the course for a first time DM. Learning to DM is pretty hard, and everyone's first couple games usually suck, especially if it's pure homebrew.

The renegades known as the golden sons where founded in 39K to protect the eastern fringe.

The chapter found itself at peace for a thousand years, the chapter slowly became less codex compliant, as well as developing a unique fighting style.

They became renegades when they had discovered the governor of their home planet had been allowing their peace for a thousand years. The chapter master believed this to be an insult to his chapter and attacked the man. To the chapters surprise the chapter master burned in a golden light, the chapter believing him to be a shard of the emperor, swore their loyalty to him.

They marched out on a crusade the governor as the new chapter master, and conquered many planets for the chapter.

When it was discovered that the governor wasn't a shard of the emperor but of the deceiver, the chapter didn't abandon the governor but left the imperium with him, having developed hobbies and interests in the thousand years of peace, as well as a respect for the deceiver.

They now live in hiding in the eastern fringe, raiding things for their c'tan master. The chapter is full on heretek and heretic.

How could I improve this? What are your dudes like /tg/?

I'm trying to come up with a renegade chapter as a project to jump back into 40k with 8th. I've had a few ideas, but nothing that's really sticking with me. All I really know is I have to incorporate heavy use of spawn and demon engines into how the chapter fights.

Originally residents of the unremarkable planet of Autrech 3. The world discovered during the great crusade was sparsely inhabited, only a handful of mindless agrarian beasts. The most habitable world of the bunch, Autrech 3 was colonized and slowly converted into a forge world to fuel the fires of the Emperor’s war efforts. During the heresy, the planet all but shut down. There was minimal fighting, and the world didn't declare for other side and was generally out of the way enough that it was ignored.

Slowly, the planet settled into the groove of mindless toil so characteristic of the forges of the Imperium. While it produced various goods, it was mainly responsible for the production of support systems for Imperial Navy vessels. They where most well known for their cogitator and warp travel systems which where of solid if otherwise unremarkable construction. In response to the crisis of The Beast, the forge wold gave to the Imperium (in addition to their normal production quotas) a pair of Skitarii War Cohorts, Cohort Secundus, and Cohort Quartus, from the 4th Microclade.

On return, they where disbanded and as a whole the planet returned to normalcy. It wasn't until M39 that Microclade’s 2, 3 and 4 where re-raised in defense of another nearby forge world. On return from the victorious conquest against an ork warparty, the Microclades discovered their planet in terrible danger.

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. The Kickstarter was nearly 300% funded, and we're on the fast track to kicking ass baby.

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

Let's have a thread about little details you can put in space settings to bring them to life! Slang, spaceship quirks/modifications, products and brands, medical effects of spacer life, etc.

Slang
>"Holepuncher": a projectile firearm, so named because they perforate hulls, endangering everyone on the ship. Most stations ban them.
>"Tyke": an inexperienced astronaut, derogatory and sometimes racist term derived from "taikonaut"
>"Sunburn": radiation burns from exposure to an unshielded/malfunctioning reactor
>"Cyclo": a centrifugal spinner used to maintain bone density in space, or the rich, lazy space tourists that use them instead of treadmills

Products
>Mycosteak: protein-rich food made from compressed fungus grown efficiently in vats. Cheap and bland, but it will keep you alive.
>Clean Breath: a notoriously cheap brand of CO2 scrubbers, known for occasionally pumping out carbon monoxide, earning it the nickname "Clean Death"

Quirks
>An improvised kitchen walk-in freezer, created by sealing off a room that some of the ship's cobbled-together environmental systems are routed through. Those engine coolant pipes probably aren't contaminating the food.

Gravity is constant acceleration as a consequence of proximity to a large mass. In the absence of a large mass, you need to create that acceleration another way.

And probably go in a circular manner, if you want to be able to move your ship independently of the gravity direction on your ship.

While the normal (or shallow) plane of shadow is a reflection of the material world, the deep plane of shadow connects the shadow realms of alternate material planes. According to Lords of Madness, the Grell traveled to our material plane with world spanning gates passing through the plane of shadow. Since then many of these gates through the deep shadow have been kept open, tended to by many Grell. Two of these gates are the ones that connect the prime material plane to the deep shadow, and another which branches the deep shadow to the Grell's alternate material plane. In the middle, a Grell controlled port of sorts has emerged, which the natives call G'llyach. The port allows spelljamming ships, called shadowjammers, to sail through the deep shadow into the space of alternate material planes. The tolls paid to the Grell have made them incredibly wealthy, but the price they demanded is not always monetary.

What terrors and wonders await in the deep plane of shadow?
