What if game manuals were more scholarly (i.e., footnotes, graphs, charts, tables, pictures, etc.)
>>54015216
They have all of those things, have you never actually read one?
>>54015231
Your question has rendered me speechless.
Less obfuscation? You get D&D 4e with retards screaming it is video gamey MMO bullshit because the GAME rules of a RP GAME are displayed clearly.
Hey /tg/, I'm worldbuilding a zombie scenario. Suppose a group of survivors went to pillage your home. What would they find?
Do you stockpile food, in special dry or canned? Do you have weapons or potential ones? Medicine? Other useful stuff?
>>54014353
My home?
I have a ton of home canned jams, as it's a hobby of mine. Other canned food, mostly beef stews and smoked oysters, along with salt and vinegar potato chips. I just have a basic first aid kit, bandages and rubbing alcohol. Tons of allergy medicine.
The only other thing of note is a bunch of swords, as well as handforged knives as Blacksmithing is another hobby. A .45 Colt 1911, about a box of ammo, and a cheap Chinese made shotgun loaded with bean bags for repelling bears.
My home in Aussie land
Compound longbow
Machete
Various knives
Not much food to speak of that would last very long other than some cereal.
Clothing
Camping gear
Toiletries
Zombies at honestly a pretty fucking terrible campaign premise. They get boring very quickly and characters can just run and hide on rooftops then go down the other side once the zombies lose interest. And so on ad nauseam. The only real fun part of a zombie campaign is if there are girls you can describe their characters getting slowly ripped apart by the zombies when they did, but that tends to make them leave the group. Really though, zombies are trash tier and over done as fuck. If you can't come up with your own campaign setting that is original and hasnt been done , you really shouldn't even bother GMing. Cliches need to be avoided at all costs or else they will destroy your campaign.
I'm starting a goblin Blood Bowl team, but GW only has the one troll model available, and I don't want both trolls that goblins get to be in the same pose.
Any particular easy conversions you guys recommend, or even just an older model that looks good enough to not feel out of place?
I'm new to Blood Bowl as a hobby and any advice would be appreciated.
If possible, I would like to stick to GW/Citadel miniatures.
The Battle for Skull Pass troll is great and usually cheap to get.
Lets have a thread about how or when we discovered rare fa/tg/uy material in the wild.
I just found this in my fucking attic along with 30+ 2000AD comics. How could a previous tenant ever leave this stuff behind?
It's in fantastic condition.

So I have a generic fantasy setting built around D&D 5e, but I set a campaign in its past which is more swords and sorcery and am doing another one now, this time preferably using a different system. It was short and low-level though so there wasn't much of a problem with just using 5e and limiting the classes to martials and edge case clerics, paladins and monks if anyone didn't want to be barb/fighter/rogue. But I'm planning a sequel to it, higher power and the players as sorcerers of sword and sorcery (evil-ish campaign), and 5e has some problems for that. The previous campaign had the bad guy as a powerful wizard that they failed to defeat and he enslaved a few towns, so their new characters would be his disciples, proteges etc., mostly spellcasters conquering other cities so mass combat rules would be a bonus.
The problem with high level 5e is two-fold, one is that the group is tired of 5th edition after a 3 year campaign and others on the side so we would like to play other systems, and also I don't trust 5th edition to do high level (it'd be level 12+, preferably up to 20) without stuff breaking and it being impossible to balance. There's a fairly casual player in the group so I don't want too much crunch, I think 4e would work at low level since we're familiar with 5e but starting higher level I fear the it would be a bit too time consuming to create characters and a lot of rules and numbers and feats etc. to keep track of. Are there any other games that would be able to do this?
TL;DR: Looking for a game that works well for a semi-casual group, in a sword and sorcery setting where the players are powerful magicians.
Some games I've considered outside D&D.
Ars Magica, I don't know much about it except that the players are powerful wizards.
Meikyuu Kingdom is interesting to shift the focus to building up the home city and the dungeon represents the other cities and the wilderness.
My life with master would be fun but the idea is they kill the "master" first session.
Runequest 6e is bronze age which helps, though I don't know much about it.
Last bump.
Savage worlds could do it. It is a fairly traditional system but every but every part of the game has been done in the simplest and the easiest way to do it. It can look deceptively simple on paper, but in play it tends to feel meaty and complete, while running smoothly.
To do what you describe, you'd need the fantasy companion, but then you're all set. The mass combat system, how ever is literally the card game war with a few minor modifications.

What are your go-to rulesets? Or are you a more freeform builder type of guy? Do you build or are you the servant of the chaotic that bangs the table leg with your knee?
Did you ever had a 1 on 1 fair duel with the BBEG for the end of the campaign ?
Did you joust with him ?
anyway, thread for your cool fights with the bad guy

Playing a Mutants and Masterminds campaign, and one of my fellow party members decided to end the arc with a one-on-one fight between the arc villain and herself without telling the rest of the team. She was literally crushed into the dirt in a single strike, had her powers stolen, and had to wait a week without powers before we could assemble the materials needed for a ritual to restore her powers.
She still has the audacity to brag about being the #1 damage dealer in spite of this.

This reminds me
>Playing M&M
>My char is probably the weakest due being Not Batman (medium wage handsome dude with bat powers like flight, scream blast and echo sonar) while the rest is Xavier+Magneto, Flying Colossus and The Thing+Nightcrawler
>BBEG and his lieutenants
>Each one clearly made to fight one of us
>Rest of players choose their opponents before me
>The one free turns out to be BBEG who is Not Dr Doom (Dr Strange+Ironman)
Didn't die but I got knocked out in like the fist second when I charged at him. Woke up 2 weeks later in hospital
When Devils in D&D 5e are killed, their souls return to Nine Hells, right? Are their bodies destroyed at time of death/do they go up in smoke?
thanks
Depends on the setting.
>>54012743
They disappear, iirc. But if you want to be sure, Google it. The default setting is forgotten realms in 5e.
They just stay dead if they were greeted in, but it's different if they were summoned or if it was an avatar that passed through
>Grid-based strategy game
>Each player controls several 'units'
>Battles are started by moving a unit next to an enemy unit
>Each unit has a value for health and a value for attack
>The unit that started the battle does instant damage to the enemy unit
>If the enemy lives, the battles plays out by means of both players drawing from 3 cards in a rock-paper-scissors style battle
>Battle ends when one of the units dies
Thoughts?
The way the rock paper scissors part works is, if your card beats the opponent's card, you deal damage. If you both throw the same card, you both deal damage. This contunues until a unit dies.
I'm thinking of buying this to play casual modern with my friends

Anyone else given this great concept album a listen? it really struck me as both a great album, and a sweet basis for a potentially super interesting campaign, maybe high level 5e or low level exalted(i think, i havent actually played it)
the gist of the story is
>an man blessed with immortality, in the true sense, is also cursed to servitude to any who discover his name and call him forth from the mountain he resides in is summoned forth by a questionably evil witch(her motives arent exactly explained but are implied to be destructive)
>He is tasked with capturing and bringing to the witch her four sons to fuel a blood sacrifice which would grant her eternal life, or at the very least extend her life greatly
>in exchange for his servitude, once the ritual is complete, she will grant him release from his cursed immortality
i'm going to leave the rest to those who want to listen to the album, but my thoughts are to basically replace the solitary immortal with a party of maybe 4,and have them actually be able to be incapacitated if not die
>>54011334
to expand, during the album The Immortal is shown to fight and defeat 10000 men without assistance, and seemingly without issue, as a means to get to one of the sons, so i was feeling possibly low level exalted as that level of silliness is what exalted is good at
Sounds more like D&D.
>>54012010
yeah, for the most part it isnt very high-flying,but some of the story is pretty above the scale of D&D as i've experienced it

Bump for being relevant to my interests.
I'll start with a noob question. When a stat advances in play, does only the stat advance, or does everything linked advance? I believe only the stat advances, but I'd like a more informed opinion.
>>54010821
Yes only the stat advances, new skills opened afterwards will open at an exponent based on the new stat, but all existing skills remain the same. The only values which change with the stats are Reflex and Mortal Wound.
