I come to you, /tg/, to ask about your experiences with any of the versions of the Cortex RPG.
I know there's
* Cortex Classic (more standardized)
* Cortex Plus (more like FATE or FUDGE?)
* Cortex Prime (containing both and rules to do them)

Anyone have any good experience with Cortex? I'd like to get peoples' opinions. We're looking for something to run a Blade-inspired game, and we are kinda WoD'ed out.

I got this from a chess book I found online. It's supposed to be a good opening strategy... anybody know how to read it??

It's in the older style of chess writing called Descriptive Notation. These days almost everyone uses the Algebraic Notation system. It's worth learning both if you like old books, but Algebraic is better.

As far as an opening strategy goes, it's not great. There's a breakdown of it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A9gal_Trap but you can't count on your opponent making the specific mistakes necessary. The opening when the opponant doesn't make said mistake is the Giuco Piano, and it's very old, very solid, but very boring. Everyone once in a while you see someone trot it out for surprise value but it's not very popular and a lot of chess teachers think it encourages too much passive play for beginners.

It's easy to read once you know it. Look at the back row pieces and that labels your columns. Then count the spaces toward your opponent to get your number. If the directions seem generic, only once piece is available that can legally do that move.

As I thought out the scenario, I decided that the targets had a sudden change of plans due to the death of colleague (by sniper fire).

Coupled with the fact that Vindicare's, while certainly not on a par with Callidus in terms of infiltration would probably be able to infiltrate a ball in some capacity. At the very least, by pretending to be a member of staff trying to keep everything running (bar staff or something equally "invisible") .

Besides sending another assassin might be to late for the Imperium, and avoid all out war or possibly worse.

How do you deal with not being able to find people to play with? I'm trying roll20 but the only group that's actually accepted me is run by a very inexperienced dm who doesn't seem very available

After seeing the vast amount of OP combos (and obligatory conscript spam) in 8e threads, I wonder- is there any particularly good strategy for countering them, as Space Marines? I just got into the hobby like, a month ago. And if anyone has any good strategies to suggest it'd be perfect.

Cautiously optimistic. Chris Cocks has a pretty good reputation, came from Microsoft, and is very enthusiastic about enhancing Wizards digital products. And it seems Hasbro is behind him 100%. Hopefully, good things can happen.

Am I the only MTG player who has more decks than they know what to do with? I have 16 decks, and 2 more in progress, and endless more ideas to start. Deck-building is the most fun part of the game for me. Especially since I no longer have friends to play with.
Am I the only one who has this problem? Do I need to stop and reevaluate my life?

I don't have this problem, but a friend of mine does. 27 decks and counting. Most of them are garbage and he only plays about 5 of them.

Deck building can be fun, lots of people like doing it (myself included). But, at some point you have to step back and ask yourself a few things.

>Am I going to play this deck more than three times?
>How much money am I spending on this deck? Does the amount of money correlate to how much fun I'm going to have?
>Will this deck be decent to play, or will it just be terrible and unfun?

Once you can comfortably and honestly answer these questions, look at those answers. If you're still comfortable building the deck, then go for it. Although, I suggest using a deck building app or website and really take a hard look at the deck, Goldfish some hands, then make a decision.

I think I play about 10 of my decks frequently enough (or at least I used to). But damn. 27 is crazy.

I mainly just net-deck and play decks that seem interesting to me. I've played the following:

Vintage: Bomber Oath, Dredge, Landstill, Remora Control
Legacy: ANT, Burn, Belcher, Dredge (LED & Manaless)
Modern: Ad Nauseam, Burn, Dredge, Grixis Shadow, Esper Shadow, Esper Control

Just finished putting together Modern Storm & BreachTitan. I love unfair decks.

Although when it comes to brewing, a friend of mine brewed up a vintage deck, so I tried to brew my own. Looked at the Stasis primer, and from there tried making a stasis gifts amalgamation. It was a janky mess that won one out of probably 16 or so games. So I'm definitely not the brewing type, but love playing. For a brewer, if you can afford to continue doing what you're doing, then no harm. If you don't play paper anymore, I highly suggest you do it on MTGO, as the spread for buying/selling is extremely low, so as long as you get a few games in with each deck, it should be worth your time.

Also, cube is my most favorite format, so maybe that's my inkling of 'deck building' is using draft resources, not so much constructed.
