You're the leader of a local cult, and you have a vendetta against followers of the major religion in this town. You want to take out their head priest and destroy their temple, but you know that a direct confrontation would be disastrous. How do you do it?

Can give more information about factions if needed, I just need a good angle for this adventure concept.

Rent a truck, load it with fertilizer. Mess with football.
>>
>>54077481
What are the internal politics of the temple? Does the high priest have rivals for his position? What is the relationship between the religious order and the secular government of the town? It may have the most adherents but that doesn't mean the civil authorities don't chafe under its influence and may be willing to help undermine its influence.

His vendetta is against _followers_ of the religion, not the bishop. Forcing the bishop to resign won't help his fedora trolling

>Your character has just found out that their (absentee) father was a Deep One

How do they react?

For those who don't know, Deep Ones are fish-folk who are immortal and live in cities deep below the sea. They can breed with humans and the offspring mutate into Deep Ones once they reach middle age, although this can vary.

How could a superhero with earth empowerment be a threat to a supervillain with eldritch magic? We should write the backstory of our characters and their arch-enemies. The powers were generated randomly. And I have the feeling that my character is completely overshadowed.

The same way any super hero is. You punch them in the face really hard.
>>
>>54077341
Much of the threat of eldritch horrors comes from their utter wrongness and disrespect for what we know of as the laws of reality. However, nature cares little for what "should" happen. Whether it is a weed flourishing in the harsh expanse of a parking lot or rats inhabiting a ship built by creatures of leagues greater intelligence, "nature" makes do in some form or another. Whatever visions he summons, whatever revelations he drops, you will carry on. With the sureness of plate tectonics and the vitality of a hundred times succeeded forest you will pursue your enemy. Create fissures to destroy his summoning circles. Tear his fleshier horrors into bits with thorns and roots, claws and fangs. Wear him away with your constant presence until he is too weak to resist. While he represents the dramatic and alien features of cosmic horror, you are the slow grind of infinity.

Do orcs, goblins, kobolds and other monstrous humanoids have adventurers who go out on adventures to seek treasure, fame and whatever else monsters want?
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>54076659
Sure, plenty. We often play as some.
>>
>>54076659
Yea when you read about monster races they often even give examples of what type in their culture are likely to become adventurers. Pathfinder tends to do it too giving examples like that. Like for kobold its "Kobolds rarely leave their cozy warrens by their own choice. Most of those who set out on adventures are the last of their tribe, and such individuals often settle down again as soon as they find another kobold community willing to take them in. Kobolds who cannot rein in, or at least conceal, their spiteful and malicious natures have great difficulty surviving in the larger world."

I once ran a mini-campaign where the PCs were various undead, left to guard an ancient relic in some forgotten tomb.
Basically the "plucky heroes" took the thing to combat some mounting evil force and the PCs were awoken too late to stop them. The rest of the campaign was tracking them down so the PCs could return the artifact and go back to sleep.

Remember that there are magical planes as well. I only ever use them for quick story arcs myself though, and make them a bit weirder than the sourcebooks.

You could add an asteroid station in the Solar System's asteroid belt. It would be used as a hub for a number of asteroid mining concerns. All of this would be owned by one megacorp, and probably kept secret. Might be hard to justify why the players would end up there but I'm sure you can come up with something.

My main experience is with D&D so I'm aware I will have to forget everything I've learned.

Makes sense for the players to be humans in some decaying chaos ridden area. The classes can all fit within 40k and the maelstrom=the warp.

I know I can make custom moves but don't want to mess around with it yet.

Just want a decent primer. Obviously read the books.

Apocalypse World works on the basis that reasorces are scarce and communities are important to survival. So you'll need to set it in a place such as the characters have very limited access to important reasources and there are few actual settlements and the ones that do exist are fairly isolated. Other than that I suppose it should run much like any other AW game, just push hard on the moves to keep things moving and it should all go fine.

> chaos
Fuck that shit.
Do a world that is being overrun by the Nids.
Players have to rush around, keeping one step ahead of the swarm.
Society quickly collapses around them- law and order, availability of supplies, even common human decency erode by the day.
Players are rushing to find some way- any way- off planet (space shuttle, warp ritual, long lost web way gate, whatever)
Interesting variety of enemies- from human desperate people, to small gaunts, to lictors, to genestealers and their cultists, to the many big bad monsters.
TL;DR- fuck Chaos, do a Nid invasion

Just started re-playing this game.

I forgot how fun the in game leveling system was. You get granular leveling, but every point seems significant, to the point where I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to spend points on and what I wanted to level/save points for.

Does anyone have suggestions of similar RPG systems. Basically a point buy system, but a fairly simple one, without a ton of options, where every point seems significant?

IIRC, it actually does. Can't remember if that was homebrew or not.

could your setting, including every PC that has ever played in it, defeat Peter Gabriel if they all banded together?

Any cases of "they would never band together" are absolved, and the gods and other entities of your setting are allowed to use their full might. Peter Gabriel does not have the rest of Genesis helping him.

I'm making a fallout campaign that involves the Wendigo, problem is I don't know how to end it. I trust my players and don't want to railroad them but I just don't know how to wrap it up.

The story so far is that the BOS is contracting the party out. They're sending them to the UP of Michigan to help with their greenhouse projects. About 50 years ago the BOS arrived at an airport in TN, and managed to jerry rig some vertibirds, in the software they were able to find an autopilot that leads to some place in Michigan. They send 4 vertibirds, about 20 BOS members ranging from scribes to paladins, to travel in the vertibirds up to a small base landing pad. The north is in a state of permanent nuclear winter. The BOS find a small group of native americans living on a tiny shithole reservation, they're living off a small greenhouse that keeps their village going. The BOS increases production and efficency of the greenhouse enough for the village to grow in exchange the BOS gets 70% of the food grown and they keep a squad near the village for protection.

Some time has passed and now the brotherhood are investigating their new base of operations. They are finding a lot of GPS coordinates that don't make sense and their radios are picking up garbled signals from the north. Turns out it's a research facility that the natives know about but the BOS doesn't. The natives are keeping them away from there because they believe it is cursed. They also know that the BOS would be irresponsible with the tech. Turns out that the base was used by the US gov't as some sort of paranormal research base. They were experimenting on the Wendigo phenomenon. In an attempt to control it and weaponize it for the war. They had abducted many of the native americans before the war to experiment on them, forcing them to eat human remains to transform into the wendigo.

Cont. The villagers begin to sabotage the BOS supplies to try and deter them from exploring the base. They blame a group of raiders that used to give them trouble before the BOS moved in. Eventually the BOS still send out a 3 man squad, 2 paladins and 1 scribe, to investigate the base. On their way they are ambushed by raiders. The BOS killed most and took prisoners, blizzard comes in and the BOS are forced to take shelter. They make their way to the base, hanging off a 300 foot cliff. (Think that one base from inception) They turn off the security so they have free reign, turns out they free the lsat remaining wendigo.

The wendigo isn't frreed right away and the group of soldiers and prisoners begins to go crazy two prisoners kill a paladin out of his armor and begin eating him. The other paladin kills them both and resorts to cannibalism. He eventually kills the scribe as well. He makes his way back down saying that his group was ambushed and that there was nothing he could do.

I want him to be slowly turning into a wendigo, going on more missions alone so he can possibly get some more meat. The wendigo that still is in the base has grown intelligent. It can speak and it actually remembers its old life. 300 years of solitude forced him to ignore the hunger. He stays on the base and either kills or manipulates any explorers that would venture out there.

I just don't know what I want to do to end it. Blow up the base? Kill the Wendigo? If that Wendigo is killed will others come back?

The Robert J. Schwalb 4e lore for the "shadow of the void" wraith and the "shape of fire" wraith include the following passage:

>The shadows of the void and the shapes of fire are peculiar wraths found in the starry realm of the Astral Sea and are products of Nerull’s dark designs. To feed the dark god’s ambitions, he annihilated entire worlds, his angels flinging their screaming forms into the stars to be consumed and their soul energy extracted to feed his rapacious appetites. So evil were these genocides, darkness infected the dead’s spirits and thus were born these most deadly of all wraiths.

In other words, these are wraiths born from worlds hurled directly into suns, which is insane.

What are some other off-beat undead you are fond of? Atropals, stillborn god-fetuses, and Atropus, the undead moonlet-head of the Prime Mover, tend to be popular specimens of weird undead.

Well, there's those hobgoblin undead that liquefy living bones and suck them out of people. Then you have the skins of people that come back to unlife and skin people alive.

Lemme think, fuckin uhhhh, there's also shadows. I always liked shadows; in Pathfinder they give templates like the jungle shadow, which can be shaped like a bat and always causes its victims to become jungle shadows.

So I was doing some world building recently and wanted to add few kobold tribes into my world...And being a fan of 40k I got this idea

Tribe of Steel Claws - worshipers of ancient golem dragon, that was destroyed long ago by a hero of some sort.

Kobold's unearthed the head of this golem and it influenced the kobolds into artificers and tinkeres that now go out and steal or collect all kind of golems, warforged and other magic punk construct.

They also replace missing limbs with ones taken off warforged or made by themselves

But that is where I ran out of ideas - so /tg/ can you help me make a tribe of fantasy tech obsessed kobolds?

In a sci fi setting, which gun would be the most realistic, effective, and also favorable to have?

>Lazer
>Gauss
>Homing balistic

Discuss.
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>54072425
Laser and gauss weapons require a lot of energy, which means heavy batter packs or shielded cables. So if you want "muh realism" portable weapons, they're right out.
>>
>>54072425
Aimbot level enhancements connected to high tech scopes on Slav shit rifle that shoots explosive autocorrecting midflight rounds.

A taser that shoots a stream of nanites to a target and then a electrical current runs through that nanite stream for a split second to deliver shocks. Technically ammo based because the nanites that shoot out get zapped as well.

And I dunno, gun that shoots globs of sticky matter that expands and then hardens over whatever it hits to ensnare enemies or use it to seal holes in pipes.
>>
>>54072425
Which situation? Ground or space? Against which target? With what logistical support? What minimum level of training? Not to get too /k, but you asked an extremely broad question.

Frankly bullets and missiles might be the most sensible choices for a long time to come, even in a 'sci fi' setting. Especially in space combat. Heat dissipation is a huge issue with laser/magnetic weaponry.
