Hi there,
I went to my first prerelease this weekend. How do you deal with the general atmosphere and temperament of MTG players? They tend to be ugly, fat, dressed poorly and dirty. And interaction with them was kind of uncomfortable. One game was good, but my first the player smelled really bad and played very very slowly (he might have been on something, so maybe that's a one off) but my next one the guy was awful. He cheated, was just generally rude and I just didn't enjoy playing.
I have a touch of the social anxiety so I understand to a certain degree that's on me, but does anyone have any advice on playing MTG with strangers and being in a hobby where the players kinda suck?
Make a sign that says now opponents over 350 lbs . Even if you honestly have to play them it will set a good tone for your games.
Be more aggressive with shame that you lay on the unwashed, they deserve it
>>54243762
Sure. Keep interaction polite yet distant and business-like. You can soften this if you like your opponent. You're not the only one that's discovered they detest the people sitting across from them. You're not here to make friends. You're here to destroy your enemies.
>>54243762
Fat people, casual players, women, and commander players tend to be human scum. I would recommend getting into modern or legacy, but the barrier to entry on both is much higher than what someone should reasonably expect. Avoid commander like the plague and try researching the Facebook pages of local game stores.

That's admirable, most people these days can't stay still for 10 minutes without checking their phone or something.

Question of the day: A local tournament is having a 1500 point tournament in a couple of weeks. A local, not a powergamer by any means necessary, asks that, since a Warhound is exactly 1500pts on the nose if he could just bring his Warhound as his army and try to win with a Warhound. Judge organizing the event is thinking about it.
Do you think a Warhound would actually do well or would it get tabled at that points level? Its just a single Warhound with a Plasma Blastgun and Inferno Cannon.

Plenty of them, often too much to list. Let's also share fun facts we know about Pathfinder- 1pp and 3pp wise! That would be fun, yeah?
Fun Fact: the Gambler kineticist archetype has 1 more power known than all other 6th-level manifesters, discounting the Empath Medium (who doesn't actually have Powers Known until they take Expanded Knowledge). It starts play with 2 1st-level powers and ends play with 21, precisely 1 more than the Cryptic, Dread, and PsyWar have.

>>54240608
I've got about a half-dozen ideas that all require a campaign with high point buy, high level (level 9-11) and ideally Gestalt. Mythic would be appreciated!
It's not really anything mechanical I need for this, I just really want to crack my creative knuckles and work on a character who's already a mover and shaker of the setting. Backstories tell the story of your character, and a high-level backstory makes me feel like a Skald.
hey /tg/. I'm pretty new to painting, and am looking to improve. Aside for the obvious, "thin your paints", what do you guys see that i could do better? Thanks.

Unearthed Arcana in two days. Are you ready for a disappointmen, anons?
Thoughts on EK/arcane trickster combo? Should one or both of these just be replaced by bladesinger?
So after attempting many different campaigns that fizzled out after a session or two, we have determined that one of the larger reasons for this is that we've been using 5e / pathfinder (small wonder). So we are looking for a new system , what does /tg/ recommend? Preferably one with combat that is less of a slough.

So we've all heard the advice of "go to your local store and ask around", but what's the next step? How did you actually go about sitting down at a table and joining a group?
I have difficulty meeting new people but I'm really interested in playing RPG's so I'm just wondering how you guys found your current group(s). Bonus points for them being new people and not a college gaming club. My college gaming club was 90% mtg and 10% yugioh.
I have a really nice store with lots of players I see playing but how do I approach them? What's the etiquette? What if they don't accept new people?
>>54239150
>how do I approach them? What's the etiquette? What if they don't accept new people?
Don't be a dick and learn to take rejection well. I mean, it's pretty damn simple.
>>54239191
>don't be a dick
I'm afraid my problem is the opposite, but not much better in the end. I'm too shy and quiet. But I feel like this is something that could help me with that.
>>54239215
Be confident. If you can't be confident, fake it until it sticks.
How would you feel if in a D&D5e game of unspecified setting the DM disallowed humans.
Not because they're not a part of the setting, but because of some other reason--there would be humans present in the campaign, but the PCs couldn't be one.
Just a THOT process I was going through, perhaps for a
>Racist-ass humans
campaign or something similar.
>>54238732
If it's just gonna be the standard elves, dwarves, and halflings running around, then I'm out. The GM would need some custom races fleshed out to make it interesting. Nothing spectacular, just something that gets away from the norm a bit.
>>54238732
It's a struggle getting my players to consider any of the core races because they're all too 'boring'.
That being said, I have run a Racist-Ass Humans game before, involving an underground resistance movement for non-humans who wanted equality. It went well enough.
>>54238732
It depends on the premise, though I think I'd be fine with having a thematic party of races outside of human lands focused on some goal.
I would say that just doing elf/dwarf/halfling would be boring, and the ideal would be something like races from the underdark or more monstrous sorts that humans would have a reason to distrust, rather than it just being generic wood elves dealing with lumberjacks calling them knife ear every so often.

Games ahead of their time:
>Hnefatafl
>The defending side comprises twelve soldiers and a king, who start the game in a cross formation in the center of the board. Their objective is for the king to escape by reaching any of the four corner squares. The attackers comprise 24 soldiers positioned in four groups of 6 around the perimeter of the board.
Can you think of any other thousand-year-old board-games with asymmetric starting positions?

>Can you think of any other thousand-year-old board-games with asymmetric starting positions?
Ludus latrunculorum, tafl's predecessor.
What's the best hnefatafl variant, Copenhagen?
That really is an absolutely fabulous piece of history that we have. While I can't think of any other asymmetrical ancient games off the top off my head besides some mahjong tile variants, I have always loved senet and the Ur game since I learned them in elementary school. It's amazing to think about games like this and Roman dice games and Chinese bone and tile games and all the others ways that people just like you and I all throughout history entertained themselves.
