Greyhawk Thread.

interesting stories/characters made in the setting?
56 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
Greyhawk is pretty boring to be quite honest.
>>
>>54258857
Vastly better than Forgotten Realms, at any rate. Personally, I quite like the setting - despite being clearly D&D style fantasy, it manages to feel much more grounded than other D&D settings. It helps to know that a lot of the lore grew out of games that Gygax and his friends played.

to be honest its a hard setting to play as Wizards release NOTHING about it. they just release more FR content and I hate FR

>Why are you all so... EVIL? Don’t you think it’s wrong to hate aliens – just because they’re different to us?
>NO.

Purity Brown has been Nemesis the Warlock’s closest ally since the strip’s formal début in 1981. Strong, courageous and compassionate, she came to act as the demonic alien’s conscience as the events of the story grew progressively bleaker and more desperate. She was there when Nemesis learned of his wife’s death. She was there when the warlock’s son, Thoth, waged war against humanity and his father. She was there when Nemesis’s arch-enemy, Torquemada of Termite, murdered Thoth just as father and son were reconciled. Throughout all, Purity’s story has been left largely untold. That changes in this arc.

When we last saw Nemesis at the conclusion of the Book Seven (>>54220398) he and Purity had just escaped the fifteenth century following their latest confrontation with Torquemada. The two rivals chased each other through the history, each trying to murder the other one with their vehicles, until a massive time wave (caused, we now know, by the ABC Warrior's antics in The Black Hole here >>54248569) explodes behind them.

Who will survive, and what will be left of them?

Nemesis the Warlock is a very peculiar sword and sorcery epic. Although a tremendous source of inspiration for players and GMs of a variety of games, it is particularly notable to /tg/ as the source of huge amounts of 40k’s background.

Gaming budgets; do you have a set amount you allow yourself for spending on games/cons/upgrades/etc? Monthly/yearly/whenever there's disposable income? Do you hoard it and do massive orders or just buy the minute something interesting pops up? When there's no game you're interested in, is there something else related to the hobby you put your money towards?

>Gaming budgets; do you have a set amount you allow yourself for spending on games/cons/upgrades/etc?

Nope. It's more a matter of what's out there that I'm interested in.
>>
>>54244335
I limit myself to $100 a month on BG, and I tend not even to hit that.
I also play Pokemon TCG, after the $100 for consistency and draw cards every additional deck is like $20.

Since me and my playgroup are about 30 kilometers away from Essen, we usually save our mobey and go on a haul at the annual SPIEL fair. We have no set limits ourselves so we'll pick whatever looks good and plays nicely at a demo game if available.

So like.. He lived, right?
Nahiri fused him with rock from the mid torso down, but when Olivia mocks him, Sorin is still pretty conscious and alert.
Did the Jacestice League just ditch him when they could have saved him?

Yes, he's alive.
No, it doesn't matter, Innistrad is dead now. It'll be 15 years before they even think about going back.
>>
Does it count as ditching when they didn't know he was in trouble in the first place? The only ones who interacted with him in the story were Jace and Tamiyo, and they were too busy trying and failing to kill Emrakul to follow up with him.

I'm not even sure if the Gatewatch knows Nahiri is still alive, let alone that she caused everything in the block and stuffed Sorin in that rock.
>>
>>54243413
Only Jace knew about Sorin on Innistrad, and he didn't even really know anything about him. The only reason he sought him was to learn more about the Eldrazi. Since Emrakul contained herself and the other two were destroyed, there is no impetus for him to search for this dude he otherwise knows nothing about. It can be presumed they don't even know what happened to him. I don't know why you framed this question like they did something wrong. It doesn't even make sense that they would try to "save" him.

I don't know about you but where I live there's a pretty prolific market for RPGs and especially made by people right here, RPGs you must not know about since they are rarely translated.

So ITT : post short descriptions of RPG from your country, if people are interested in knowing more, maybe give them details so they can try and emulate it from where they are.

I'll start in the next post.

>INS-MV

In Nomine Satanis / Magna Veritas is a French RPG published in 1990.
It has two separate parts (INS and MV) where you play either demons or angels in a modern human world. The premise is, a long time ago, God and the Devil made a pact to prevent all angelic and demonic creatures to interfere in the open with human lifes and decisions (last time it happenned, it gave WW2 basically), creating The Great Game.

The Game is knowing who, demons or angels, are best at convicing humans to follow their ways, elevating or descending the human world in the great building of the plans.

It is very much a comedy game and you play it mostly with three d6. You achieve missions for your faction (and maybe even your Demon-Prince/Archangel from whom you descend) while trying to stay hidden from humans, possessing corpses for demons and willing humans for angels.
>>
>>54228848
>Bloodlust

Another French RPG (yes I am French, well guessed), first published in 1991.
It's a sort of low-fantasy kind of universe, set in a land called Tanaephis. It was once populated by your standard dwarves, elves and orks but unending wars have erased them from the map and now only humans -bloodthirsty humans- remain.

It has a variety of people with each its culture and ways which are pretty interesting in a nordic barbarian sort of way but the point on which this game innovates is with the so called God-weapons.

You see in this universe without religions, the gods have incarnated themselves into weapons to feel human emotions, passions and bloodlust through the one who wields them. These weapons are universally afraid of water because, since they are immortal and can't do anything on their own, being immersed in a lake or worse, in the sea, means waiting for hundreds and hundreds of years for someone to pick you up.

When a human picks up a God-weapon, he becomes envied and revered for he has access to its great power as long as he has it in his possession.

Character creation goes as such : you create your human and the weapon who has its own points to buy powers and characteristics (from a 200+ list) to create a weapon that is unique. Then you pick a few 'desires' from a list that is the same for humans and weapons, deciding what the wielder and weapon agree and disagree on.

But the most interesting part for me comes here : there are a few ways of playing Bloodlust.

You can play the human and the weapon, creating a sort of schizophrenic playstyle.
Players can play the humans while the Gm plays the weapons OR vice versa which is fun
Or players can split in two groups, weapons and humans, which is my favorite.

It had several published versions, most of them use either a d100 system or a d6 system with a bit of complicated combat that can be simplified easily when you know the game well.

>Le Jeu d'aventures de Lanfeust et du Monde de Troy

Blah di blah baguette fromage the title roughly translated to : The adventure Game of Lanfeust and the world of Troy.

Lanfeust of Troy (and some others) is a highly popular french comic series set in a low fantasy world (called Troy) and since the comic is mostly comedy and parody based, so is the subsequent RPG.

Troy is a low fantsy world, most people live in small villages and life is generally shit around there, except for those who have money and/or great magic powers. that's the thing : magic is everywhere in Troy, relayed by Eckmül sages and everyone born in Troy has a magic power (ranging from make your eyes change colors once a day to walk on water or heal wounds) and can use them if they are not too far from a sage.

The most powerful magic powers are balanced with a condition for its use (an example from the comic would be healing wounds but only under the moonlight and not your own). You can play as other races such as trolls (hungry hairy motherfuckers that can be magically tamed with rituals by sages and make great travel companions once tamed), or humans from another land who don't have magic powers but can get other advantages.

The universe is also drenched in all sins and you can defined one or several for your character to pursue.

Its system is based on DnD 3 so d20 all over.

am I KAWAIIIIIIII

At the risk of winding up on several CIA and NSA watchlists:

What does the security of a top-tier world leader look like? How do the guards at the White House, the Kremlin, or the Apostolic Palace really stop anyone from getting inside and stealing or assassinating? What protocols do they use against pure physical stealth, disguises, social engineering, and other forms of infiltration?

I want to run a mission wherein the party steals something guarded in the magitech fantasy version of the White House, the Kremlin, or the Apostolic Palace. The mission is supposed to be extremely hard, yet doable. Magical countermeasures are the part I need to worry about, but I want to see what can be done to guard the place on the oft-overlooked mundane side.

Shadowrun sourcebooks may have info you need. There have also been some history channel documentaries on presidential security, mostly based on older stuff.

There are guards everywhere, constantly in contact with each other via radio. If you don't have ID or aren't a known, expect to get checked. Metal detectors and cameras on all entrances. Guards have concealed carry, and those are just the ones you see

Air support is probably not far off and on stand by in case shit gets hairy, so choppers can probably be there in 10-15 minutes. Nearby buildings are secured too, so you can't smuggle a sniper rifle in across the street.

Add in magic and there's probably wards, patrolling spirits, etc.

The best way to sneak into one of these places is to be invited. As part of a tour group, or as an expected dignitary and his entourage, etc. Foreign ambassadors have their own security personnel when they visit washington, recently some got in trouble for kicking the shit out of protesters harassing them (it was some middle east guy)
>>
>>54279986

Multiple layers of security until you get to the point where there is someone literally looking at a screen 24/7 ready to press a button at a moment's notice.

Depending upon the thing you're trying to protect you have to prioritize how strict the security is and whether it's worth the money to have people johnny on the spot ready to respond.
>>
>>54279986
buildings constructed with security in mind - very limited entry points all easily watched and heavily guarded. Mantrap door configurations may be used. Doors and walls are far heavier than their appearance suggests.

everyone is either openly armed or concealing armaments. Body armor may also be concealed.

thorough checks on everyone scheduled to go in or out, unscheduled visitors are turned away unceremoniously and with force if necessary. Scheduled visitors are thoroughly inspected for concealed anything before being placed in a guarded waiting room. If they are deemed safe, they are escorted to their meeting. Meetings never take place in a location known to the visitor unless it is necessary, and even then the security may change the location at the last moment.

Armed guards following visitors and staff everywhere.

Nobody is allowed in a room alone for any reason - not even staff or guards, and not even in the bathrooms.
