Think I'll add this in every post mine to emphasize it.

About creating the natural evolution of 4e (the same way 5e is the natural evolution of previous editions), what do you guys think about getting rid of the situational modifiers that can bloat the combat? It is nice to build bonii until you pierce the heavens, but when you have to add +2 from the Leader power, +2 from Combat Advantage, +2 from Bloodied, +2 from this, from that, the damage roll becomes only a minor thing (because when 1d8 + 35, the die means little).

Getting rid of this also reduces the number of powers available. Doesn't need to go full Advantage/Disadvantage-only, no items, final destination, but improve more than simple +2.

My personal desire would forgo 1d20 in favor of 3d6, but then it would stray too far from 4e

Played Strike! on hexes (felt like it fits the mech scale better) and it worked out pretty well.

I see no reason why it would not work in 4e.

Depends on whether or not their psionics are also linked to the Warp or not. If they're hooked up into the psychic murderfest that is the Warp in the milky way, they're probably going to get buttfucked by daemons.

If not, they will probably do okay. Having faster-than-light travel independent of the Warp would be a huge advantage.

Dark Templar draw psychic power from the Void, which seems like a pretty clear Warp analogue especially when you contemplate it's connection to the Xel'naga. They're pretty daemonic, too, at least as of StarCraft II, but more Order-aligned than Chaos. Warp entities with a different set of priorities, as bad but with fewer random mutations.

Zerg are small time compared to Tyranids but they share enough similarities that Protoss would probably be pretty proficient at fighting them. The big difference is behaviorial, Zerg infest planets to turn into their hives, whereas Tyranids just strip them clean and move on; giant termites vs. giant locusts. Similar tactics, different strategies.

Protoss warrior culture is pretty hardcore, I can see them getting pretty into ork fighting. Probably disdain them as barbarians but appreciate the challenge.

I'm having a hard time putting together an economic system that makes sense for an interstellar civilization, because everything humanity has ever used so far has come from one planet. If you can get everything from one planet, why would planets need to trade with one another?

I could arbitrarily say that some planets lack metal and trade with others that lack water or something, but that's just contrived. I could get exotic herbs and spices growing on some worlds, but I'd have a hard time explaining why you can't just get them growing in hydroponic boxes all over the place; even with today's technology that should basically be possible.

I think I may be that GM.

There's just no subtlety or fun with this group. I've tried discussing shit, but they've made it clear this is how they have fun, so I should just relax and go with the flow.

if you're looking to be a GM for different kinds of people, you will have to adapt to the tone and campaign for different groups. it's just the way it's gonna be.

If you just want to play a specific way then ditch them, even if the are close friends, because eventually your lack of interest will spill into the campaign and make it fun for 0 people. I think there is still fun to be derived from d&d even if you're not playing everything you'd like to, but honestly that's how I feel.

Hey /tg/ recently I convinced myself and few friends of mine to go play MTG at an open house. We've all been really enjoying playing with our welcome decks but we are pretty keen to start playing with cards other than these same cards/decks over and over again. None of us are particularly financially endowed so I've been looking into cheap ways of getting more involved with magic; with little success. I first thought we could fork out the money for some deck builders toolkits but upon looking at the card list I discovered it's full of the same bloody cards that make up the welcome decks. Then the option of going to the Hour of Devastation pre-release arose but we didn't know whether it was a smart way to spend our money so we ending up not forking out the 45 bucks for it. I would really like to keep playing but with the way things are looking everyone is going to soon loose interest and drop off . I really need your help /tg/ what is the best way to get more cards or advance in mtg from the welcome decks, thanks for answering and reading though this garbled mess of thoughts/ questions of mine.

As someone who is also fairly new to mtg, don't come to 4chan for mtg stuff. I feel like half of all the mtg threads have shown off some of the ugliest sides of the player base. (Sometimes they are cool people, and it's a good sorce on news/spoilers, but they've done more harm then good for me)

That said draft and sealed are fun and if you don't have a good collection of cards is a good place to start. Prerelease (and draft) might not yeild you the best cards in the set but is a great way to play and meet people who play while being at a slightly more even level.

Find out what kind of decks you enjoy and try to build decks that appeal to you. Look up bottom-up and top-down deck building on youtube and figure out how you want to build your decks, while keeping budget in mind. I would avoid buying singles of cards that are expensive unless you absolutely know you want to play with them. With the possible exception of lands which will always be useful in various formats and easy to sell should you lose interest. If you don't mind playing with proxies or using an online service like cockatrice it can be nice to try out decks before actually buying the singles for them.

Also if all the players are new, be careful about upping the power level too fast. The last thing you want to do is cause an arms race where eveyone is spending more then they should on something they May lose interest in.

I avoid playing colorless staples like sadbot and instead play fun cards. Sometimes that added consistancy is missed but other times it causes hilarious explosive wins. When you remove staples you flex your deck building muscles and start finding new engines that can fuel your decks.

If we're talking real world stone age, deal with that tribal warfare, those dangerous hunts, exploring and trying to expand your tribe, ect. I have no idea if Farcry Primal is any good in the story department, but maybe give that a look to learn from/learn what to avoid.

Stone age fantasy could be even more wild, with magic and ancient elves and dwarves and actual dinosaurs and all that good shit.
