Time for a greentext/stories thread?

>Running GM

>Try to poison his food

How was it an epic success if it alerted a guard?

The stabbing itself was epic success. The scene is something different

My best friend's fiancee has been dabbling in MTG lately, and it reminded me of the CCG days of my youth. I hauled out my old L5R cards (played Jade through Diamond). Thinking of trying to get our playgroup to try out the old stuff at a kitchen table level. Where would you guys start with that?

I was mostly a Phoenix player, and that's what I remember best, but I know I dabbled in Mantis as well. I'm thinking I throw together one each of those, maybe a Crane honor runner and something else as well? What were your favorite clans or deck types? How would you approach this? Or do you just want to share fond memories? Pic related; an old favorite of mine

Maybe a Scorp dishonor engine would also be another good starter?
>>
Never played the CCG, but I do intend to play the LCG, probably gonna start as Crab.
>>
>>54351451

I was thinking that too, (OP here) but the system looks so different that I'm not sure I'll make the jump on an old dog/new tricks level. Besides, I really liked a lot of the mechanics of the old game, losing provinces, focus values for dueling, force vs chi, et al.

just saw this while dickering around GTM.
looks cool, but i haven't dug into the preview research yet.

has anyone heard hype for Tales of the Loop?

You're probably baiting, but whatever. Let's bite on the off chance you're legit or some other impressionable anon sees this.

Tales of the Loop is pretty shit. It was made to cash in on the Stranger Things hype without managing to capture the qualities that made the show good, and was carried through kickstarter almost entirely on it's art.
http://conceptartworld.com/artists/simon-stalenhag/
Granted Stalenhag is a kickass artist but you're better off browsing that website and putting it with literally anything system and campaign you wrote, and it'll be better then Tales.
>>
>>54351237
I wouldn't say its made to catch in on Stranger Things, Simon Stålenhag's artwork and setting had been around long before Stranger Things, furthermore its a very different setting than ST, this has been a huge misconception that people have given the game and the setting that I feel will disappoint some people who don't get the horror, conspiracy, pulppy/lovecraft vibe ST offers.

I'm intrigued. It was recommended to me after seeing Stranger Things. I think the Swedish angle is a nice twist, too. I feel like GMing it would be hard, though, in terms of plot and player management (keeping the adults out and the kids at the right capabilities), and the canonical mysteries in the book weren't my style so much.

How often do you explore the country in sci-fi settings? Do you have situations where you need to go to a farming village of some sort? Are they a corporate farm with well dressed owners in nice fancy vehicles with all manner of high tech and barely noticable augmentations or do you go on down by the village that farms mainly for subsistence where they have to manually control the drones and the best mechanic in the area has literal fucking duct tape around a shitty but surprsingly sturdy cybernetic arm

Dragons are Dragons.
Dragonborn are Dragon worshipping Lizardmen.
Half dragons dont exist because thats stupid.

What are some types of characters that you have made more than you should have?

>me
1. The hooded wizard. He is usually undead and sometimes fights in melee just like a nazgul!
2. The naked chest guy. Usually an edgelord of some kind. Fights with naked chest because he is really muscular.
3. The vampire. Usually a highly self-important vampire lord with great ambitions, sometimes a monstrous noble that operates from a particular location.
4. Undead knight. Very dedicated and hard to kill.

>Hooded Wizard
See Hooded Pupik/Apprentice template, goes well with the like of Wizard Necromancer Specialist variants presented in Unearthed Arcana, Unversed Arcana, Dark Magi's 3 necor base classes, Death Master, or Dread Necromancer.
>Naked Chest Guy
Cancer Mage, or a Transmuter with interest in natural armour and well selected feats
>Vampire Lord
Shit taste, lrn about Age categories and vamprie variants
>Undead Knight
Literally a sentient fighter stuck in the undead state forced to experience every moment of it's undeath, it's an older 2e thing but Tome of Horrors updated it to 3.5, and i've not seens it' s3.5 version, wears a circlet, it's like the medium buffer before you set Death Knights againsts PC's.

A Roguish Solution for small parties

All characters with PC classes can use the Search skill to locate traps even when the task has a Difficulty Class higher than 20.
Finding a non-magical trap has a DC of at least 20, or higher if it is well hidden. Finding a magic trap has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.
All characters that are primary spellcasters* can use the Disable Device skill to disarm magic traps. A magic trap generally has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.
They can use spells to aid them in this, like magical hand spells to do it from afar.
A character who beats a trap’s DC by 10 or more with a Disable Device check can study a trap, figure out how it works, and bypass it (with her party) without disarming it.

*arcane or divine, like wizards, sorcerers, druids or clerics but not secondary spellcasters like paladins and rangers

Hereafter, at 1st level, any character can choose up to 4 skills from the Rogue Class Skill List, and those skills become class skills for him or her. A character gains extra skill points per level, which must be however invested in these skills alone, equivalent to his Intelligence bonus. If the bonus is +0, he still gains 1 skill point. This bonus is not multiplied at 1st level.
A character can use the pool of his other skill points, to raise those 4 skills.

Example; Adoq, a mystaran 1st level Wizard can choose Hide, Move Silently, Disable Device and Open Lock. He has an intelligence of 17 (+3) giving him 3 skill points to invest in those skills per level.

Bard
Hit Die: d8
Skill points increase to that of the Rogue;
Skills
At 2nd level, and every 2 levels thereafter (4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th) a bard may choose a non-class skill and from now on it will be a class skill for him.

Skill Points at 1st Level
(8 + Int modifier) ×4.
Skill Points at Each Additional Level
8 + Int modifier.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A bard is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with all armor up to chainmail and buckler shields. A bard can cast bard spells while wearing up to chainmail armor and wielding a buckler without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, a bard wearing other kinds of armor or using a shield larger than a buckler incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclass bard still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes.

If you think about it, the Magic Duels gave us a new game format
>It has its own deckbuilding rules (Only one copy of each mrare/two copies of each rare/ three copies of each uncommon and four copies of each common per deck)
>no sideboard
>Restricted to Origins and past-origins sets
How would it work on paper?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Well, it's over now, we didn't get Hour of Devastation and won't get any new set either. Was fun while it lasted.
>>
>>54348887

I think the restriction by rarity is fine to forcefully make the game cheaper. It also could make the decks less consistent and reliable on obviously broken cards.

The no sideboard rule I think is a little silly, as they make some matchups much more fair. Assuming they print most of the pure hate cards as rares I think it would be fine.

The card pool should be as large as possible, there's no sense in restricting it. You still can play different formats if you wish.
>>
>>54348887
its an interesting format but it was bogged down really hard by how hard it is to get singles with no trade or crafting system. I would have liked to see how it curbed the traditional midrange mythics decks and the gideon decks

Glancing through, it looks like large pools of d6 vs difficulty numbers. And the "sci-fi" includes brain-magic as a core stat. So nothing new or interesting going on so far.
