It sounds like Nika had a very interesting time duringMuppet Treasure Island.
Ok, so we've made such a habit of having this thread that really, we honestly should just take it to its logical conclusion and have a regular thread about it on here.
Why is D&D Shit?
>>54484416
because you're still not playing Basic or 4e
>>54484429
I'm OP. That's a given.
>>54484442
What does basic do better than the newer variants?
Post ending in 89 decides how I will start my next D&D 5ed campaign that I have absolutely nothing prepared for and am to mostly going to wing it. Also, it's in 2 hours.

Father's Thrusting Cock is all OPP, anon. OPP and CCP since it was approved pre-Paradox purchase.
>>54484223
You should really educate yourself.
OPP owns: Scion, the Trinity stuff, and a couple of other things.
Paradox owns the entirety of both WoD games and Exalted.
OPP develops and writes and publishes as a licensee.
Many of us think that their eventually loss of the IP licenses is why they're pushing things like shitty cat/dog RPGs.

So, what do you think about defense missions?
>>54484148
How do you even run horror? It seems counter to the nature of tabletop games when removal of agency and lack of information run so close to the genre. How do games like Call of Cthulu maintain players?
>>54483583
>How do you even run horror?
Exactly how you said it: removal of agency and lack of information.
Sanity checks are made to remove agency and private messages are used to restrict information.
>>54483583
>How do you even run horror? How do games like Call of Cthulu maintain players?
By having players who are willing to cooperate with GM to get horror experience. Otherwise you will get Old Men Hendersons.
>>54483583
You don't have to remove agency to make someone afraid, you just have to make the game dangerous enough that there's a real chance of death, permanent injury, or insanity, also hiding info from the players helps alot
Has any GM on /tg/ ran a game where they allowed 'bluebooking'?
Can anyone explain what it is to me, and give me some examples?
I keep hearing this term, but no one's ever really explained it to me beyond making it sound like fan fiction for PCs. But surely there's more to it, else no one would do it.
>>54483152
I've done it. Sort of. Basically between sessions you contact your players, or dm if your on the other side of it (i've done it both ways) and talk about what your character has been up to between sessions. it kinda lets you fill out the character more than you can during the group session because you don't have to worry about the rest of the players. Assuming we are thinking of the same thing, and I grant that we may not be, it really does add a lot to the experience. It helps players engage more with the character and the world and give you the opportunity to give certain players information you haven't given the whole group to see how they interact with each other.
Now that i've answered your questions, at least I hope i have and that I'm not off topic, where can I get that picture? The whole thing I mean.
>>54483221
Addendum
To provide an example of Blue booking as I understand it, once in a shadowrun game we had an enemy the rest of the group let go. They swore they would never bother us again, and for some reason that was good enough for the group and they forgot about it. Honestly dm probably would have never introduced that character again anyway, but I felt that my character wouldn't just be K with letting someone go like that. So I talked with the dm between sessions and went through the effort to track down and eventually kill said loose end. Honestly the party never knew, but it made my character feel more real to me, and it in turn changed my concept of the character and added a new nuance when i played that character in the group sessions from then on because I had more material to work with. That was a example. I can give you more if you would like.
Still wanna know how to get that picture.
Ok that's interesting. I like that idea that the players can contact the GM between sessions if the really want to achieve ooc goals.
And to answer your question that's all I have for that imagebut you might be able to get the full thing if your use tineye.
>when you are so corrupted by Chaos your dad sends your more successful older brother to kill you, and to escape death you sell your soul forever to Tzeentch
So what you're saying is that Big E made things worse by forcing Magnus into assuming selling his soul to Tzeentch was his only option for survival? Really activates my almonds.
The Emperor didn't send Russ. He sent the Wolves.
Russ was garbage and got beat up by his brothers and enemies numerous times. But the Space Wolves as a legion were excellent teamkillers, so he accepted the "tax" of taking Russ along. Probably because he figured Valdor could keep him in check and stick to thr original plan of "arrest Magnus," which he didn't for some reason.

>A portable hole that, when placed against a surface, allows you to cross through the surface as if a window has just been opened. The catch? It actually sends you through to a parallel universe every time you do it, where things are subtly different and the effect magnifies with each usage.

>Magic swords that raises as undead all it's previous owners to fight for you
>A sapient telepathic wizard hat ready to share arcane knowledge with anyone wearing it, slowly overtakes the mind of it's owners
What's that GURPS(?) Item that people believe displays images of the future but actually what it does is actively change history to reach the worst possible outcome or something?
If your party is "fast traveling" somewhere, how frequently should you interrupt the narrative with random events?
My players just started fast traveling a lot as they are reaching higher levels and so I'm thinking about implementing a system where, after every x hours, one of them has to either
>1
Roll a skill test, with a success meaning nothing happens and a failure meaning a random event happens requiring that particular PC's set of skills
>2
A random event happens and the PC who triggered it has to resolve it using their unique skills
How often should this happen? And is 1 or 2 the better option?
Just roll for random encounters. Make a random encounter table. Pre-prep interesting situations and keep random NPCs on index cards, shuffle and pull a few as necessary.
>1
adds unnecessary rolling
>2
is how you should be designing every encounter
sounds boring and pointless
also, on a success, don't say 'nothing happens' give them something cool to find, instead
interesting scenes and characters and locations, not just loot
don't just punish characters for traveling
>>54482644
Don't do random events. They're a waste of time.
How do you people deal with mind control in your games?
Is it bad to have a mechanic where a PC can be mind-controlled by an opponent or is it okay if the player is given a shot at resisting it?
>>54482557
I asked this in 5eg the other day. I don't think a PC should be able to be charmed into anything unreasonable like suicide but if the players like roleplay, it makes for some interesting opportunities.
I would draw the line at interparty charming though. Players should not be able to charm other players. It's silly and unfair, especially with caster supremacy already a thing, it just widens the game.
>>54482557
>Dominate Person the party barbarian
>They don't know WIS from INT, easy control
>Watch the party chip away the barbarian, who keeps losing his WIS save
>>54482621
This pretty much.
I only use mind control against some players I know well, and even then I aways talk with them to know if its okay.
They can also choose to make (and pass automatically) the save vs mind control at any time.
Works on my table. Might or might not work at yours
This is how I elf
