GURPS can handle it very well. High Tech has a great selection of weapons and equipment from the early 20th century and provides good, gritty rules for games grounded in reality rather then the fantastic if that's what you are into for a political alt-history game.

Well, what are you trying to do with it? I can't really help with TTRPG stuff, since I tend to avoid modern stuff, but there's no shortage of WW2 TT war games that could be adapted with relatively minimal fuss.

Really, the biggest hurdle is determining what sort of equipment everyone would be using, since the butterfly effect from the PoD would mean a lot of countries would be missing designers and companies they had OTL, so differentiating between, say, Canada and the UK in crunch could be difficult. A lot of guns/planes/tanks/etc. have either been shifted around, or invented wholesale.

For now, at least, I'm one of the guys involved on the dev team explicitly tackling this issue

So I was thinking about what battlefield tactics would be needed as a necromancer. Say you can have a few skeletons at a time, with basic equipment, but what equipment would you give them? Spears or swords? Axes or maces? What would the ratio of archers to melee infantry be? I read a bit on ancient battlefield formations and it seems that if an enemy is spread out, they are vulnerable to shock tactics, and if they are grouped, they are vulnerable to ranged attacks from bows.

How would you take advantage of a skeleton's resistance to arrows? Grouping them together?

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of other anons out there have more knowledge than me, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Yeah, but what about in the middle of a fight? Would you have your spearmen stay back in a shield wall formation whilst your archers pelt the enemy with arrows? I think not committing would be best because unless the enemy has a mage they don't really have an answer to long ranged combat vs you.

Yes, in a sense. Psychic power is innate and a large number of people can use it but it's very, very weak (You can sense living things within 10 feet and have something equivalent to mage hand and not much else) where are arcane magic is studied and more varied/powerful but still tops out doing fireball at best.

No. Magic is the application of Chakra/Ki/Vite/Ka/Pneuma to affect the material or spiritual world. The source of power can be different, but the energy is all the same.

It depends on how they actually are in terms of culture. If you're talking standard D&D Orcs, not very well. TES Orcs? Would do reasonably well. In my own game, Orcs are divided. They are "civilized" in that most of their race has settled in cities, and changed their veneration of strength into a culture of endurance, both physical and mental. The remainder of them are parts of cults of Gruumsh, and hate that their kinsmen have "sold out" and do everything from just be rebellious teenage Orc "gangs and thugs" to outright terrorism. So it really depends.

They seem to mesh well enough in Bright, at least, though what I've seen I may have inadvertently made my Orcs similar to those.
