How would /tg/ build a Darkest Dungeon PnP?
>>43554018
D&D B/X or Chaosiums BRP (same system as RuneQuest 6 and MagicWorld) layered with rules for psycological disorders and morale. Setting the dark Fantasy tone is more up to the material.
>>43554018
It's just a highly lethal dungeon crawl.
Any Dungeon Crawl style system would work.
>>43554018
Warhammer Fantasy 2E
Any Retroclone
Is there a problem with having abilities that always produce the same result, but consume a randomized amount of resource, as opposed to having abilities that consume a fixed amount of resource and have varying effectiveness?
>>43553985
Yes. No. Depends.
>>43553985
In theory no, but it depends on a lot of surrounding info we don't have to make it "balanced".
>>43554149
Well the reason I have in mind for doing this is the resources in question exist in quite limited amounts, so instead of having things that consume less resource, you would have things that have a lower chance to consume resource.
How exactly would one create the equivalent of a spec ops force in a high fantasy world?
>>43553968
Basically you take Vernon Roache from the Witcher series, add in more invisibility spells and fireballs.
That's about it.
>>43553999
Nah, that shit can surely be traced by clever magic-hunters
You take vernon roche and just leave it like that
>>43553968
You start with a snazzy uniform and a cool name, everything else should be thought up either on the spot or during a bathroom break

ABRIDGED (BUT NEARLY COMPREHENSIVE) RULES
>INITIAL SETUP: 5 cards in hand, 5 facedown cards as shields (basically health), 30+ cards in deck
blocking is an ability, not all creatures can do it
mana zone, battlefield, and discard start empty
>START YOUR TURN: untap all your stuff, then draw a card
if you went first in turn order you skip your first draw
you lose if you *ever* try to draw from an empty deck
>next CHARGE A CARD (i.e PLAY A LAND): you may put *any* one card from your hand into you mana zone
every card generates 1 mana, multi-colord cards enter tapped
>next PLAY CARDS: played creatures go into the battlefield, spells resolve their effects then go into the discard
you must tap a number of mana sources equal to the cost of a cards from your hand to play it
at least one mana source must represent each color on the card you play
if you don't spend your mana *right now* you won't be spending it
>next ATTACK CREATURES OR PLAYERS: one at a time, tap creatures that you controlled at the start of your turn to attack or use activated abilities
attacks can target an a specific enemy shield or a specific tapped enemy creature
if a creature fights another creature the lower power is moved to it's owner's discard, mutual death on ties
if your shield is successfully attacked it goes to your hand
you lose if you are successfully attacked and you have no shields
>next END YOUR TURN: some effects might occur here; then the next player in turn order starts their turn
>FOOTNOTES
blocking is an ability, not all creatures can do it
effects caused by attacking occur before effects caused by blocking
evolution creatures are played on top of and replacing other creature(s)
if an evolution creature moves to a zone other than the battlefield, move everything below it too
evolution creatures don't get summoning sickness
some shields may cast themselves at no cost when attacked, if you choose to do this it happens immediately

I think it's better to learn to rules from one of the video games that lets you play against the AI.
http://duelmasters.wikia.com/wiki/Duel_Masters_Video_Games
The deck editor would be a bit better with a visualization of the deck showing the arts not just names and numbers on the corner of the screen.
Ok I tried alone, I'm pretty sure I fucked up. Monociv because I don't know yet how to balance multiple civs on a deck.

Have a Druid cast Reincarnation on you.
You have a big feast or become a turkey. The gobblin' counteracts your goblin so you cease to be a goblin and become a human again.
Earth 4000 AD, and it is a time of prosperity. War is a thing of the past, and the countries of the world have united under one government. Faster-than-light travel is widely available, and contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life is common.
Time travel has been discovered, and thus a new department, the Timeline Integrity Monitoring Executive (TIME) Police, has been set up to prevent misuse and tampering with the timelines. All time travel technology and information is kept secret from the public eye and managed by the Executive.
You are one of its agents, fresh out of the Time Police Academy, and about to be inducted as a Special Agent of the Time Police.

Not for this one I'm afraid.
One thing I miss about the pre-internet age is that slang terms were less standardized. Slang terms were often different from one subculture or social circle to another, or meant different things.
For example, what /tg/ refers to as "That Guy" I have always known as:
Gary. n. A Gary is a gamer who ruins the experience for everyone else. A Gary is often overweight or extremely underweight, has odious grooming habits or is very unappealing to look at. A true Gary combines these traits with a massively inflated sense of self-worth, a sore loser temperament or a tendency to insert bizarre or uncomfortable sexual elements into games.
So named because every single, ugly, egotistical pervert we ever gamed with just so happened to be named "Gary" for some reason. This included a fatass who once showed up to our CCG group wearing a children's Yu-Gi-Oh costume and demanding to be called "Seto Kaiba." We just called him "Fatso Cholesterol."
"OH MY GOD. This build should never die to a CR 4!! THis DM SUCKS and needs to learn to balance encounters!"
"Don't be such a Gary, dude."
>inb4 someone starts a Gary thread
>>43552474
>Fatso Cholesterol
>>43552474
My group had the term "flash" for flaky players, specifically girls who tried the game once, and then never played again.
"What happened to Jenny?"
"She was flash, man."
I wish either we had had more narrative games back then, or that I hadn't been so worried about appearances. (I deliberately avoided showing girls the World of Darkness games I owned, because I felt like it'd be sexist or something, having read about all the late nineties goth girl players.) Looking back, they might have been more interested in games less rule dense than 3.X
I know we had some weird terms for magic cards, but I cannot recall them at the moment. We called fatties something else. Beefcakes, I think. Anything over 5/5 was a beefcake.

No QuiteAnon was just a pretentious jerk. Pretending there was more to his cyoa then there was and just agreeing with almost anyone's guesses. Also that cyoa is poorly thought out in that all the sources you'd need to watch to get a vague idea of what he was spewing about aren't listed. He didn't think out every word or any other bullshit like that. Pretentious crap is all it was.

NationStates Thread
Praise and Thanks to based mods and janitors, since /His/ does not allow generals and /int/ pruned the thread, we were wondering if we could stay here rather then /vg/, since we need people who know how to RP to keep the region growing and alive.
What is NationStates?
>NationStates is a free nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.
Can I be NaziGermany/Equestria/DESIGINATED/kekdom?
>Read the above, but be reasonable.
How do I play?
>Create a nation and follow it from there. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics, which will determine whether your nation is authoritarian or libertarian... conservative or liberal... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

The afternoon sun is hot on your shoulders, as you idly pick at a plate of snap-peppers, dragon's-tongue root, and bitterstalk, trying to rein in your impatience as Doma Toceri 'charmed' another potential client, some slip of a girl, rich now that her father died. Apparently it's considered charming in Pentos to talk about how great YOU are.
Two months. Your lord had sent you here to win him honor, fame, and most of all, gold, and you had won him nothing. Your men were idle, your thoughts dark, and the only person who seemed to be happy was that fat fucking merchant.
You run your hands in frustration through your hair, momentarily shocked again by how short it was cut. The Pentoshi sun was fierce compared to the cool heights of the Vale, and you had cut your shining locks a few days ago to lessen the sweat dripping in your eyes.
You are Finnel "Finn" Leoric, First Head of the Great Company of the Valemen, sworn to the service of Lord William Bordain, and you are starting to become very frustrated.

Some frequently asked questions
>What is this?
A quest is a communal Roleplaying Game. Halfway between a choose-your-own-adventure story, and a more traditional RPG, where you and other posters will decide the actions and responses of a Main Character.
>How do I contribute?
Posts will provide you with options to vote for, as well as occasionally asking for rolls. Rolls are determined from the best of the first 3 rolls submitted after the post.
>What's the story?
This particular quest is part of an Ongoing Storyline, taking place in an alternate version of the Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) universe, some 13 years before the events of the first book. This quest is not as firmly connected, so you can start here, or you can look up "Song of Iron and Hate" in Sup/tg/ or Foolz to learn the full backstory.

Explain your setting you wanker.
Let's play a game, /tg/. A game anyone may play.
I would like you to play as yourself, the anon behind the screen. If that is difficult, you may invent a character, any character. For maximum enjoyment, I recommend not giving your invented character too many benefits.
Now, then. How good is your memory of the past 24 hours?
>How good is your memory of the past 24 hours?
4/10
>>43551384
Do not worry if your memory is poor. If anything, you will benefit the most from this game.
I did forget to say one thing. The setting of the game will be this current-day Earth. If you want to involve a character that's not part of this Earth, include some way to send them here: magic, divine intervention, portals, the Akasha Corridor, whatever.
Again, all my questions are open for anyone to answer.
It is 22:00 4chan time right now. What time is it in your area?
