I've got an idea for a very minimal RPG, but I want to run it through the /tg/ machine to make sure the numbers add up to something playable. The premise of the game is that the players are each members of the aristocracy, steeped in ennui and with waay too much money to spend. Each session, the owner of the household gathers the PCs and suggests a gentlemanly wager, such as a game of auto polo (pictured), a balloon trip around the world, or a spirit quest with the savages. At high tea, the party discusses the rules, makes wagers amongst each other, and trades backhanded compliments. Afterwards, they go on their wager, and insanity ensues.
Currently what I have is 4 main stats, Athletics, Fortitude, Education, and Wit, plus Social Standing, which is basically your money and charisma (and would grant equipment based on the score), and Moxie, which would be fate points/action points. Players can write down 3 skills the character has, and perhaps a single flaw. I was also thinking of adding in archetypes, of which players could choose one for a small bonus, like Man of Science, which would increase your education, or Curiosity, which would grant you an extra skill (but would only be available to players with low social standing.
I'm still working on a scoring system, based on how objectives are completed, what is wagered at high tea, and so on. I also recently had the idea of unspent moxie giving a bonus to your score, and winning the bet (getting the highest score) promotes the character in the gentleman's club, granting higher social standing, and perhaps a few other bonuses. Getting too low of a score though would force the already nihilistic aristocrat to contemplate suicide, and be forced to roll on the suicide chart (which my friend is designing...it's looking very darkly humorous).
Point being, I'm terrible at numbers and game systems, but once this is compiled, of course it would be condensed into an ideally 10 page-ish pdf for /tg/ to use at their own table. Something good for a one shot adventure, or an ongoing game for when not everyone can make it to the regular session.
Sounds like a pretty cool premise op. I'd suggest a faithful (and optionally foreign) manservant as a skill
>>43560025
Yeah, I was thinking of putting them in equipment, along bloodhounds, medicines of the Orient, etc. I was also thinking of a dueling subsystem, but it might make the game more complex than I intended.
The war is lost.
The evil wizard rides atop an army of monsters and corrupted slaves armies drafted from every known nation in the world which he has crushed utterly.
The heroes and adventurers have failed their quest, their heads now mount pikes on the wizards chariot, as well as the heads of the rest of the kings of all the world.
The King sits in the room with his generals and guard, the last king of the free world, as the enemy is outside knocking on the doors with a battering ram.
What is it like?
One last enormous orgy
I order my last remaining guards to place a bucket of water precariously on top of the main throne room door, and put a whoopee cushion on my throne.
Even if the war is lost, the evil wizard will be the one who is all wet.

Are casters inherently more interesting to play?
I don't just mean in a D&D sense.
Are playing characters that get magical super powers with versatility just more interesting than melee people and the like, regardless of which is more powerful?

They usually are for me, even in roguelike games.
>>43558488
Well, it depends on the person
I prefer playing both at the same time
Magic is usually more fantastical, and if you're playing a fantasy game that's probably what you're after. So yes.

Fellow crusaders of law and justice, I send my worries to you of other realms via the magical medium of Tidgei, for I am sorely in need of your advice.
Know that I am Sir George Dulac, Knight of the Realm, Servant of the Sacred Spirit of the Unicorn, Defender of the Innocent. The heavens in my world have undergone an upheaval, as a civil war has broken out amongst the Celestial host, bereft of the direct leadership of the Most High Gzyavriha, whose attentions have been drawn to other crises in the rest of the multiverse. Into this power vaccume has stepped the Arch-Angel Mikaya, who by rights should be in the service of our benevolent and merciful God. It is said Mikaya was himself once an outsider entity, an interloper who was overcome and forced into submission by Gzyavriha, and tasked with protecting and preserving the world. But in Gzyavriha's absence he has determined the best means to preserve our world is to cull it of all wickedness by decimating the population, and making a ruin of all industry and civilization to force us back to a more basic and 'pure' era.
My knighthood makes war upon these errant angels who invade our realm upon the ebb and flow of the tides of magic, borrowing the power of the native magical beings of our realm to defend ourselves (as I mentioned before, I am of The Unicorn - purity of the utmost). My concern is not, as you might think, an ethical debate upon whether or not a Paladin should fight the forces of heaven, even if they are acting in contraposition to the understood dictates of my faith; for I know as a Paladin my duty is to good and justice above all else and that Mikaya's genocidal methods cannot be accepted as righteous, and we must somehow withstand and stop his invasion.
No, my distress rather concerns a Maiden. Magdalene.
>>43558246
Magdalene you see is an angelic being herself, and the last to be allied with the forces of mortals. Previously an agent (and possibly lover, or at least admirer of) of Gzyavirha's herald, she has been forced into exile among our kind with the Heavens in upheaval, and the Herald himself destroyed by Mikaya.
Even now Mikaya hunts for her, offering to spare many millions of lives if only we turn her over. Of course for honors sake we refuse. To me this was never in question, and I was very moved when my companions agreed. Magdalene herself was once a mortal, who ascended long ago, and now down amongst mortals once more she has been reacclimating herself to life this side of the celestial divide. I have observed her, and her love of music and of peace, the gentle manner in which she speaks and settles disputes, the grace of her demeanor and her striking visual appearance, and I admit I may have become a bit smitten. I have pledged myself as her protector while she is vulnerable, and thus far she has survived two assassination attempts - though I myself confess I cannot take credit for this, as one took place while I was away and another was a direct magical attack by Mikaya himself, who has yet to even be seen by mortal eyes.
As she recovers from her attack, her health in poor orders and our healers attending her, I made for her a get-well present. Music commissioned from the bard, sealed magically to a device to listen to at her leisure, and a book of popular artworks that have been created since last she walked the earth. I gave her these gifts and we spoke a bit, she confessed her fears to me - fears of Mikaya, that she had failed in her divine mission, and fears that she was not even doing the right thing (as her role was meant to be an observer)
>>43558322
I did what I could to assuage her fears, assuring her that she was safe in the keeping of my comrades, and that we would help her and even face the Archangel's fury for her. She thanked me and told me I was very brave, and wishing to be humble I confessed I had fears like any man. I simply placed my belief in doing what was right above all else. I also apologized to her for being thus far, unable to protect her properly.
She smiled and said, "Well... I am here to protect YOU... my friend."
Tidgei, hath I just been friend-zoned?

Alright! Let's play a game, It's a bit like a card game you can use any card or picture as a card from any game or universe.
The rules are simple counter the other persons card for example..
>If i happen to place down a card that allows me to win, you would then place down a card that removes that card from play.
I'll start us off.
Say good bye to your card.

So, after not playing MTG for a few years, I have a few friends coming over this weekend for a few beers and some geeky fun. I have a few thousands commons lying around and I'd appreciate any advice on how to build semi-balanced mono-colored decks of 40 cards each?
I was thinking to go somewhere along 17 lands + other cards with 2 artifacts, 2 instants, 2 sorceries in each deck. Creatures would go from 1 to 5 mana (i don't really have many really expensive cards on hand).
Any general advice hot to do this deckbuilding in order to make deck approximatelly balanced? I do not want to make something annoying as hell.
thanks
>>43558098
>40 cards
Fine but why not the usual 60?
>17 lands
Good benchmark for 40 card decks
>+ other cards with 2 artifacts, 2 instants, 2 sorceries in each deck
Different decks need different things. Do not limit yourself like this.
>Any general advice hot to do this deckbuilding in order to make deck approximately balanced? I do not want to make something annoying as hell.
If it's all commons, it should stay pretty balanced naturally. Blue is annoying to most new players assuming you run counters, but that's just how it is. Budget control is shite in multiplayer anyway so it works out.
>>43558098
How about you do a rochester draft?
You dump a bunch of cards on a pile, and one by one you each pick a card?
if these people are new, you might also look into what the decklists of those free giveaway starterthings to get ideas of what to use.
Use a 60 card deck, you only have commons why add insult to injury.
Next you'd be well off using 15 lands, mana producing creatures somewhere around 25 mana producing creatures, 20 artifacts. Try that, im sure you'll be fine.
One day while you are sitting around fapping, the God Emperor himself bursts through your wall! Behind him are thousands of Space Marines and a fleet of immense power.
He tells you that you are his second son, and the second he has found. He has found you so that you may take control of the II Legion, and fight for him in the Great Crusade.
The II Legion is a bunch of generic failures at the moment, known officially as the "Generic Faggots." If you had not been discovered, they might have been wiped out or something equally bad.
He asks you what you call yourself, what you will rename your Legion to, and what you will have their specialty be.
So /tg/, what do you do with your own Space Marine Legion?
Football team. Start my own Space Blood Bowl tournament.

>BBEG takes over the planet.

>>43557966
Have him think that whatever he was trying to do can't be done if he doesn't have absolute 100% certain control of everything in the planet, from social gatherings to the number of public toilets, to the point where having everything under control becomes his single focus and his initial goal gets set aside "until nothing can stop it."
When that day comes, he is so paranoid that he thinks he is losing his grip of the planet and cares more about new laws/curfews/bans than whatever he tried doing.
>BBEG plots and plots to take over the world
>he doesn't ever think it will happen but hopes anyways, delusions of grandeur etc
>one day some extraneous events cause him to become the only leader left on earth
>cue RPG
He takes over but forgets but doesn't want anyone to know and think he's any less powerful so he starts just making stuff up poorly.
He has an advisor/second in command that helps make sure he doesn't look like an idiot.
>so....uh...first, those of you in the east...uh...Will be put to work...in the......mines....
Advisor whispers in his ear:
>Your evilness, the mines are in the west
>......of course! Thats why everyone in the east will be sent to the west to work in the mines. That's what I said...
Gentleman, I need advice on how to make a competitive Iron warriors decurion and formations to go with. Completely unofficial but the people in my meta are tired of chaos being so rubbish.
I was thinking of the decurion bonus being something like:
Bonus 1: barrage weapons can shoot into friendly combats.
Bonus 2: units in the decurion have +1. Bonus to cover behind defensive lines or on battlements.
Formations might include:
The fortifications formation from strong hold assault, with several towers and a few walls.
A fortification consisting of 2 renegade artillery batteries and a squad of havocs. If within 6'' of the havocs, the artillery batteries can reduce scatter by -1.
Is this broken as fuck or going in the right direction? I really want to play fluffy Iron Warriors without just spaming wyverns in a purge renegade ordnance master list.
>I really want to play fluffy Iron Warriors
Just use the loyal codex.
You don't have daemons and cult marines, so just use the Iron Hands or Imperial Fists tactics, and add some ally Imperial Guards if you want.

We dig trenches, build fortifications, then dig more trenches.
Then we perform internal drills and inspections.
The official ones are too lax and overlook many common and fundamental mistakes that were deemed impractical or too strict to punish soldiers for.
Let me tell you why halflings are the worst...
>Be the DM of a homemade campaign played on roll 20
>Give the option to let players come up with crazy shit for characters
>Some people go easy, some pick OP as fuck warforged, but that's a story for another time
GAME 1
>One halfling tries flirting with the NPC quest giver. She shrugs it off and sends him to a back room
>Takes it as an invite to his pants and strips to a thong
>mfw the other halfing does the same and they start doing half-naked cartwheels all over the place
>Other PCs are on the verge of killing the little shits
>NPC quest giver comes in. She's a dragonborn, about 6'5, decked in rouge gear
>One of the PC halflings hits on her, the other smirks watching
>One PC threatens that they're gonna kill them now
>I tell them to remain calm, then proceed to roll to intimidate the two
>After modifiers, its over 20
>She walks up to them, rather calmly, then proceeds to grab them by their little heads and slam them into the table before them with enough force to break a normal man's face
>Room erupts in laughter, and neither halfling flirts with her again
GAME 2:
>Party encounters a dragon. Not a fully leveled one, but one none the less
>Everyone starts preping for combat, although I do encourage them to try to talk it out first
>The fucking halfing has the balls to say "I roll to seduce the dragon"
>Rolls
>Fu. King. Crit
>Our faces as he types obscenities in the chat and the party is escorted out
>He never showed up again after that
And that's not the last story of this.....interesting campaign

>Ask to borrow the bard's feather fall ring
>Jump off of the airship
>Swing my sword around until I am standing on it, make the appropriate acrobatics checks with the other players becoming very interested.
>Begin raging
>Red dragon looks up and sees a screaming spec in the sky flying towards him.
>Roll and manage a hit even with the penalties.
>Activate feather fall with a 31 will save to speak the command words while in rage(house rule).
>I ask the GM how much damage near terminal velocity adds to sword damage.
>He groans and picks up a handful of dice, rolls, and sighs.
>"The last thing the dragon sees is a screaming barbarian surfing the sky with on a massive sword before the sword pierces him through the neck, back, and through the stomach in a Gory explosion of blood and scales. A few seconds later a rather excited man gently floats down near the corpse".
>I'm no longer allowed to play barbarian.
>>43557743

Anyway another few stories
>GAME 3
>Other halfling rolls to seduce the gods
> Crits

>Pixie mage decides to throw snowballs at it, this works for a while
>The Paladin and Ranger however drop their weapons and go to punch it
>They ALL miss
>Snek turns to bite the pixie
>natural 1
>It ends up biting its own tail and injecting itself with enough venom to KO itself
>Party agrees to never bring up this embarrassing show again
