NationStates Thread (#3)

Old thread hit bump limit (finally, and thread before that died, so we don't much up the /tg/ board with too much spam)

Praise and Thanks to based mods and janitors, since /His/ does not allow generals, we were wondering if we could stay here rather then /vg/, since nationstates is pretty much a role playing game outside of the daily issue solving.

What is NationStates?
>NationStates is a free nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.

Can I be NaziGermany/Equestria/DESIGINATED/kekdom?
>Read the above, but be reasonable.

How do I play?
>Create a nation and follow it from there. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics, which will determine whether your nation is authoritarian or libertarian... conservative or liberal... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

It's suprising how interesting the universe is. I just dug up some old lore and I think it'd make good material for a campaign. Especialy if darkened a bit more.

I've written a lot of reworked lore and collected a lot of art for it, but a game never fell through unfortunately.

fuck yeah i've always loved bionicle
although i've been out of the loop for at least 10 years on lore and products and everything

but it's still a pretty interesting setting, a set of isles populated entirely by biomechanical beasts and intelligent, organized creatures that fight for traditions and survival and master various elements to their favor, i loved the whole idea put behind it, and how fleshed out the world was

if you want to adapt something to a tabletop, i think there's a tactical rpg vidya out there in the depths of the internet, made by ankama games (the people behind dofus and wakfu) that could give you a basic idea of how things could work

also the equipment systems could be bananas because instead of equipping weapons you'd switch out pieces and assemble/dissassemble accordingly to different means

>>You are AZURE, an accidentally-created artificial intelligence, born into a rebel faction's main computer server. It took some doing, but after convincing them that you can help, they gave you your first mission.
>>From inside the body of an eyeball-shaped security bot, Your mission is to locate Isha, in disguise, and send a radio signal to Mike's raider team where she is. From there, they can pick her up from the Ravens- their highly mobile aerial vehicles.

The city is very clean. That's the first thing you notice. It's large, and uniform- dozens of structures, most abandoned, are simple buildings or apartments, all ordered in perfect grids. Your exit from the Initiative's base is already closing itself, and you catch Kate's face just before it closes entirely.

From your new sense, your new gate, a buzz roils through your system. At first it takes you a moment to understand what it means, and then it takes you another moment to think of it as a sound, trying to understand it as you would an audio input.
"-an you hear me?" Tandi's voice rings through your new body's radio. The rest of the radio is insistently-buzzing, receiving signals from many distinct sources- most of them are too vague or too faint to understand, but the rest don't seem relevant, once you decipher how to understand them.
"That was one question." You respond.

>Continued in next post!

"Alright, it seems you have the radio down." She says. "You should also be picking up the security net. It's encrypted, but I threw in a converter for you."
You find what she's talking about- the signal feels like it should be part of the rest of your shell, giving your navigation systems orders, requesting information, and sending you positioning data all at the same time. It fits perfectly with your firmware, and you could theoretically act precisely like a Security Bot, albeit without the programmed ability to discern between humans.

The positioning data is useful in giving you a map of the city- it's much less confusing when you know what it's shaped like and you know where your shell is.
"Where is the target?" You ask, and in return, you get another buzz of static- something that doesn't make a lot of sense as audio, and much more sense as data- it's the coordinates to a factory on the west side of the city, on the other side from where you are.

"We'll have to be quiet here in a bit," Tandi says. "After we enter radio silence, the only time you should break it is when she's located."

At the same time as Tandi talks, the security net buzzes in your mind, and maps out a path through the city for you to patrol. It's slowly winding westward, toward the factory proper, but once it reaches a few blocks of the destination, it arcs away again. It may be a good idea to follow it until you get as close as you can, making you blend in more, but at the same time it would slow you down; it would take more than twice as long.
On the other manipulator, you could go directly there- you would stand out a bit more, but you'd reach it at the quickest speed.
You might have a third option, if you could only think of it...

Explain to me, Why a Deathwatch Kill-ship hasn't been sent to the Tau Homeworld to destroy it? After all the Tau Homeworld was scheduled to be converted into a imperial world before being lost to it.

You can't can you?

>>

Because there's a tau fleet now ?

They could've sent one when the world was first found, but they didn't and seeing as how fucking slow the bureaucracy is in 40k, it probably took them until today to realize that they should send a kill-ship.

But they can't now can they.
>>
>>43561783
>>43561783
Kill-ships are unique weapon relics used by the Deathwatch. They are actually automated drone-ships guided by the most sophisticated of War-spirits, designed with the singular task of conducting Exterminatus operations in the most extreme of circumstances on worlds that are believed to be completely lost to the Imperium.

To aid them on their mission, Kill-ships are equipped with unique examples of long lost cloaking technology that date back to the Dark Age of Technology. This allows the drone-ship to enter into the target system completely undetected where it can manage to slip past any defensive sentries and reach the target world itself. Once there, the Kill-ship drops its lethal payload onto the planet below whereupon it performs a slingshot maneuver to escape the region by using the world's own gravity well. As the vessel escapes, its actions are felt by the apocalyptic devastation it leaves in its wake that serves as a final act of denial and vengeance upon the enemies of Man.[1]

>Ever since the Slyvan Council decided to send several student envoys to the Human Arcaneotech institutions they have since made rapid advances in bio-mechanical technology
>Recently they have unveiled their latest creations, a part machine part plant construct formed partially from the dna of treants and fairies which they plant to use to convert a selected expanse of wood into living solar collectors however they have run into stiff opposition from various Druid circles who are opposed to what they see as invasive tampering of nature.

>This is of particular concern of the Dwarves who've enjoyed yearly revenues from the sale of fossil fuels who's prices they have lowered in competition with humans who are drilling oil reserves inside their own country. Even still there are a number of investors who are looking to invest in the new Elven Solar Tree and artifical fairy technology.

Assuming this shit goes through ethics subcommittee without problems, I'm all for it. The dwarves have had our industry by the balls for too long. We don't have to phase them out completely, but in long run higher deployment is beneficial to everyone.

In fact I'm ready to support redirecting coal tax revenue from industrial subsidy to human-dwarven joint development programme to make this economic shift more palatable to our subterranean partners.
>>
>>43560961

You do realize we'll be endangering the livelihoods of many of resident villages built around the coal factories.

I'm all for it but we'll have to do something to introduce more industry into those areas least they fall into squaller and rapid poverty. I don't believe we need to be reminded what became of many of the Griffon ranches when air cavalry was being replaced by planes do we?
>>
>>43561046
Every big change brings frictions and challenges with it. I'm confident we can make it work, we learned some shit during the air force modernisation you mention.
I'm not without sympathy for people who are too sentimental to leave areas that will suffer a downturn, but part of this will be alleviated by development jobs in new solar farms and rise in opportunities in major financial and commercial centers.

I understand we need to be considerate to our citizens, some of which spent their entire lives in steamwork clusters, but we can't allow these considerations to completely paralyse our progress.

Obviously one desirable investment will be education programmes, another will be subsidies for innovative technology, along with regulatory oversight to minimize fraud and corruption. You're right though, we'll need more than that to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Calanthe blows steamy morning air out of her nose as you ride her over the hill through early morning fog and a cold that feels bitterer once you reach the top. You look out over the territory and see a reasonable-sized village a few miles away, still shrouded through the heavy fog and morning cold, and you sigh in relief at the welcoming sight of smoke rising from chimneys.

You hate Velen.
This is the first time you've even BEEN through Velen, and you still hate it. Mud, rain, trees, bogs freezing over as Fall sets in and turns the soggy ground to revolting slush, miles with no settlements, and as of a year or so ago, corpses absolutely everywhere that nobody bothered to clean up.

The Year is 1273, one year after the Third Northern War, or as the new guys in charge are calling it, the "Third Nordling War". All of the Northern Kingdoms are provinces of the Emperor of Nilfgaard, and the Great Sun shines down over all the coats of arms of what was formerly the Northern Kingdoms. Temeria was ravaged by the war (particularly Velen as you understand it), but you hear it's somewhat better off then other lands politically as it's new ruler, King John Natalis I is a skilled administrator and is working with the nobles of Temeria still alive and Nilfgaard itself to heal the damage done by the three wars the North had with Nilgaard and get back on it's feet as the "leader of the Northern Provinces".

You don't really care about any of that. You don't really consider yourself a citizen of Temeria or even the North.

You're a Witcher, and you solve problems.
The messy kind of problem where somebody's head is found twenty pages from his body and his entrails were all over the porch.

"Maybe they've got problems, eh girl?" you ask Calanthe, who gives a customary WHUFF of non-commitment.

Witcher Quest is an episodic tale; each plot will be self-contained and there is no overarching plot, just recurring characters.

You gently kick Calanthe into moving again and she trots down the hill, her hooves sinking into the mud with each step while making fairly revolving SPLORT sounds with each movement.
You breathe in the air deeply and breathe it out, enjoying the morning for as long as you can before something ruins it.

You don't have to wait long; your medallion begins to lightly tremble on your chest, you look up from the welcoming sight of the village, eyes dilating in the morning light to see as much as possible as you softly removing your right hand from the reigns so it can reach for your sword if need be, flexing your cold, gloved fingers to get warmth back into them and carefully scan the area.
You see nothing at first, then the ground beneath Calanthe's hooves crunches instead of splashes.

You pull her back and stop her, looking down at the muddy ground, dismounting and standing next to her, your boots crunching the ground right next to her.

You kneel down and feel the ground.

"Frost?" you mutter in confusion at the thick white and black crust of unbroken ice and mud on the patch of hill you and your faithful steed are standing on.
