Is it feasible for a nation to have completely unique magic if the only difference between them and another is culture and geographical space?

My players entered a city that uses golems for all forms of labor, and a player asked if the other kingdoms and city-states that bordered the city had any form of golems. When I said no he asked if there was a reason and I didn't actually have an answer.

So /tg/ IS there a reason that a kingdom which closely borders another kingdom wouldn't have the incredibly useful things that their neighbors developed, in some form?

Economics. Is it actually worth doing -thing- locally and for the cost of the startup?
>>
>>55378016
It's completely feasible if the magic involved is semi-divine in nature and only available to the worshipers of the particular pantheon of that state.
Golems are based on jewish folklore that has migrated into the wider European mythology, and were traditionally only creatable and controllable by a rabbi. Thus, there is precedent for such magic being culturally limited.
>>
Super guarding of the golem tech. It all comes from the state and no one knows how to do it aside from a few guys in the government.

The current golem count is from decades of steady growth.

That or the golems are fairly recent.

You can have someone use them without being an edgelord (druid/nature priest, farmer-turned-militia fighter, etc.), but they're going to invariably attract edgelords; same with any form of Oriental sword (which they'll likely all conflate as katana).

Could work as a symbolic weapon for a priest of a god of agriculture. Those are only rarely edgy and concerned with blood sacrifice, I think.

Fuck, I know they are edgy and impractical as fuck to boot, but I've got a thing for scythes, specially double ones.

>1) Really good deckbuilder, a bit too competitive, prone to telling people their decks are shit.
>2) Newb, no idea how things work, will occasionally cheat and claim it was an accident if caught.

>What reputation does each player in your play group have?

>The Alpha Player
Regarded as almost always winning. Usually actually puts up a fight before dying due to being automatic archenemy

>The Beta Player
Decent at lurking, usually ultimately wins after Alpha goes down, very skilled

>The Stone Wall
Never attacks, even when piloting a midrange deck. Petrified of interaction, the only exception to the lack of touching anyone is an extreme vengeful streak.

>Lolrandumb
Idles or acts in no discernable pattern. Mostly the aggro, and attacks blindly. Doesn't run Ruhan, but basically IS Ruhan

>The New Player
Likes smashing, bad at threat assessment, doesn't have a lot of experience

>The Schemer
A sometimes player, not very good at playing Magic but frightening at playing the table. Always wants to cut a deal and always backstabs them the moment it's profitable yet players other than Alpha and Beta always fall for it.

1) Remake the Gateatch using any five planeswalkers not Yawgmoth, Nicol Bolas, or Urza. Try to have all the colors covered.
2) Pick a plane they're visiting that's already been made
3) Come up with a villain or crisis they have to deal with. Can be original or not.

Venser, Tamiyo, Garrak, Koth, Vraska.
Kaladesh.
Attacked by New Phyrexia.

There aren't really enough Black walkers to find good alternatives. It's basically Vraska or Lili no matter what.

Personally, I would go for a team of walkers who all share a color though. Ajani, Tamiyo, Kiora, Domri, Vraska could be a good lineup.

Suddenly everyone can bond over nature, has a common interest in maintaining the status quo of planes they visit to a degree, and generally ensuring that whether they're fighting off cosmic horrors or toppling oppressive governments, everyone is going to want to make sure there's a world worth living in after.

That said, I also feel like it would be easier from a mechanical and storytelling perspective if the team was only 3 walkers. Two with two colors each, and one mono-color, possibly with an artifact focus. Go for Black paired with one of its enemy colors so the selfish aspects are balanced out by a sense of teamwork and community. I would say G/B, so you could go for U/R. That way Blue is paired with something drawn to action and impulse so that they won't sit around and solve puzzles all day. Then White can stand alone, being a defacto leader trying to bring order and morality to this whole planeswalker thing.

Then, once you have this core of 3, you aren't taking up as much room in sets where all 3 need to show up, have simpler dynamics that can be explored further since you only need to worry about 3 different relationships rather than the 10 a five color group would have. Once you have them established, then you can bring in other members more frequently, but keep them firmly as side members.

Essentially, if they're going to be doing capeshit, get a Superman/Batman/Wonderwoman core, and then worry about the rest of the league.

>There aren't really enough Black walkers to find good alternatives.

this
>>
>>55377023
That's a horrible idea, because A) Venser is dead dead (bringing him back means anybody ever could and now you're REALLY in capeshit territory), and B) Kaladesh is the only artifact plane not currently wrecked by Phyrexia, wrecking it with Phyrexia means there's now zero of those and you have to make ANOTHER.

Bad players, Bad sportsmanship.

Ive finally started playing with my plastic toys, gone to a few small tronys, go the LGS religously now. Having a blast and best of all made friends.

But one of these friends is kinda hard to play with. Fantastic large space marine army. Good friendly guy for the most part.

But he kinda cant stand losing
And he cant remember the rules
And sometimes he tries playing lists that i just dont like fighting

>be me get challanged by this space marines player
> we want to have a casual fun 2000 game, He sets up two stromravens and his Knight
>I politly ask to play something else
>we pull up his battlescrib and look for a army that would pack a large punch against my orks, He wants to make some last minute tweaks
>he takes out some rhinos and razorbacks for a flamethrower landraider.
>he accidently screwshimself by the margin of 400 points
>we dont realize untill after my frist turn
>he wont let me stop the game
>he keeps getting upset that hes losing even tho i asked him to stop and lets just start over
>I tell him to put some more tac marines on the board, he refuses
>I ask him to bring in the knight, he refuses and moans and groans untill finally i win
>later he posts picutres of the farce on social media and starts to turn the local gaming group against me
>oh dont play his orks they are over powered.
>oh i suck at building lists anyway
>I must like DUDE YOU WAS ACCIDNTLY 400 POINTS UNDER ITS ALL INVALID.

(to prevent this from becoming a self help thread posts your experiences. But I would like to know what to do. LGS is about to start new events and i want to play in them and remain competative with out everyone demonizing me for beating that one That Guy)

All him out on his shit, and give your side of the story. Everyone is going to see you as the villain, unless you give them a reason to think otherwise.

On a more general note, congratulations on running into the fine line of "Fun vs WAAC". With something like 40k, you're always going to run into this problem. I would say your best bet would be take two or three good hard units that are efficient, and do their job well, and then take whatever else you think would be fun to try out. (Personally I always thought Kans looked like a lot of fun.)

I've mostly stopped playing table top, but when I did, the issue I would always run into when playing friends was that we just knew what army the other had. You couldn't NOT tailor against the other person, unless you played against the few people who had MULTIPLE armies, and it was agreed upon before hand not to reveal what they would bring. But then you're just at a disadvantage because he knows what you have.

The best you can do is to try to put together an all-comers list, that doesn't have too many glaring weaknesses. The only issue with that is you can start to mono list, and that isn't always fun for you.

There's a guy at my local GW that comes in on Sunday (when the newbs and tykes are trying out 500 pt. games) and tries to bait people into fighting his DE warband. He's very unsportsmanlike, tries to use rules from previous editions but chalks it up to ignorance when called on it, flat out tells kids their paint jobs are shit, humiliates opponents when losing, angrily swearing at 12-year olds for rolls, etc.

Me and the store manager have talked to him a few times about his behavior, but he doesn't seem to improve very much. Should I kill his cat to get him to tone it down a little?

when trying to build an NPC for Black Crusade
because let's face it there are no stats for most chaos marines, and it's always good to give the antagonist something better than a generic profile What is a good model to approach that? where should their stats be? how much exp do you give them that would reflect his power and influence?

anyone got some advice on this?

what's a good number for say the aspiring champion in a war band? what about the war band's lord himself? what about an alpha legionnaire that's been doing his own thing for some time?

You statement is not incorrect, that is indeed the best way around this, but now the question must be raised as to how much do you advance that character in order to make him be of a power-level that makes sense for his status?

If you're playing a game with alignments, you're probably playing a game with word-of-god definitions of what's good an evil, where they're actually cosmic forces that are part of the very structure of the universe. Mortal politics don't apply. Stop playing DnD if that bothers you.
