So you and your team finally did it. You manage to storm the lair of the douchebag tyrant that is pretty much responsible for everything bad that happened to you both directly and indirectly. His henchmen are the only people around that are standing in your way, but there is something strange about them. You can sense that they are fighting in way you cannot identify, yet you cut them down as they are coming towards you en masses with all the most terrifying weapons they can find.

After slaughtering them all, you finally get to the tyrant. After an extensive battle, he falls on his knees and you ready to finally cut off the bastard's head. Yet the tyrant wants you to suffer more and tells you the henchmen you slaughtered were forced into his service by his magic, for if they did not, then he would've killed their families which he did either way. Now completely enraged, you lift your sword to behead the devilish fiend when your party simultaneously in perfect unison yell: DON'T!! IF YOU KILL HIM, YOU'LL BE JUST LIKE HIM!!

What is your reaction to this?

I say the following:

No. I already crossed a line when I had to murder his henchmen that only wanted protect their families you overgrown manchildren!

This is the reason I bloody hate hypocritical moralizers that say these kinds of things.

Whereas the henchmen's fault was that they had no real alternative but to work for the scumbag due to him threatening that he'll murder their families and had to do all the damning things because this, he is too dangerous to be left alive.

So if you could excuse me...

[SLASH!] (BBEG's head rolls on the ground)

And coming back to the thing you said just a moment. Indeed I did change. I became much worse than him. The moment I had no other option but to raise my sword on those henchmen I became much worse than him.

Hope you are satisfied filthy hypocrites.

They knew the risks when they chose to side with this tyrant. I gave them ample opportunity to flee or throw down their arms, but they did not, despite being clearly outmatched.

Recently, I've been writing a low-fantasy setting for a D&D campaign. The world is basically "Not-europe" with a few classical fantasy creatures splashed in. But the main enemies that the party will face are other humans.

For inspiration, I started reading actual historical texts, as well as different mythologies. I think I'm going to borrow heavily from Scandanavian myth and a greek-like pantheon. (At first it sounds very overdone, but I think that most settings miss the mark quite a bit.) This is a world where the gods don't have direct influence, but instead the players will be forced to question whether the things happening around them are the work of the gods.

Because of this, I've been coming up with different superstitions and beliefs that would fit into a world with raiding tribes and "noble savages". I have not had to look very far for inspiration, as people back then had some crazy beliefs. But even more insane were the punishments they came up with for various crimes and punishments.

The following is a few of the things I've come up with, so far. If you have any thoughts or ideas for additional content in such a setting, I would be really interested to hear anything you got.

THEN:

"-What is your desire?"

The room is dark.

The overwhelming stench of antiseptic. The chime and hum of machines. The faint hiss of drug-shunt tubes and wound-drains-

...The salt tang of the scalpel, the iron hit of the tweezers, the bleach sip of the retractors.

"Is it 'life' that you wish for?"

The instruments - cutting, always cutting - are cold, but his voice is kind. His words are soft, addressed solely to the shrunken, withered thing on the surgery table - all discoloured flesh and the atrophied ends of truncated joints, marked by cicatrice scars.

"-Is it 'happiness' that you desire?"

The withered thing stirs, the implant flickering to fitful life against discoloured flesh. Static crackles, shaping monotone electronic words.

"I just want to be-"

NOW:

"Beautiful!"

Alura's laughter is low, husky, rich with admiration - Her slender arms spread, as if she means to embrace the entire world. Overhead, Anima's ghastly form hovers - half-real, warped, like a spectre of death - foot-long claws humming as they form a protective cage around her, interlocking like the teeth of a fractal dragon.

Rust Kaiser's form - His grey, tumorous flesh - begins to tremble, to form tiny peaks and dips all across that tortured, tormented bulk. The tissue bubbles, expands; the peak becoming mountains, the dips, valleys, all of it grey and swelling as his limbs begin to fold in on themselves. With the brittle crack of splintering internal structure, of grinding bone, his arms twist out of alignment, joining the growing mass - the texture turning rough and striated, veins like cables rising, rising...

It doesn't stop there. The change is beyond all restraint, all control. Pitted black armor splinters, bursting from within as suppurating flesh *swells*, pulsing with agonized force-

You can hear the wet snapping sounds. See the knobs of spine rising through the densely writhing muscle of Rust Kaiser's hunched back. Great jagged spikes of tooth and claw push outwards from within, the echoes of that terrible howl wrenched from a mutating, distorting throat as his head rolls down and becomes part of the grotesque gigantism of his form, grey becoming muscle-tissue red, blood vessels stitching across like a tide-

A cloven hoof of bleached bone - a vast, elephantine limb buttressed with dense bone ridges and knuckly spines - slams down onto the tiled floor, cracks skittering across the splintering ground. Pitch-black tentacles - corded with layer upon layer of dense muscle - push out from the central mass, undulating like waves. Each one ends in a snarling maw, lamprey mouths gnashing as Kaiser's backward-jointed, brutally muscled legs - four, like a beast, hooves leaving smoking imprints in the ground - grind the shattered remnants of his armor underfoot...

And then the massive, tumorous thing *rises up* on new limbs. Great claws with too many joints - resembling the lashing branches of winter trees - close and open, close and open, reaching out to rip and tear at everything around themselves. The howl continues, but the screaming is changing, too - Becoming deeper, rougher, Rust Kaiser's helm falling forward, *flowing* into that gnarled upper body, swallowed up by the inflamed and seething flesh. At the same time, another face is forming, growing, rising up from the back of his neck with a horrible snapping sound, like fingers being broken.

Contorted. Deformed.

Inhuman.

The face opens its mouth, and takes up the furious cry with a new voice. It is a howl, a brutal, gurgling shriek like the voice of hell in the moving dark, roared back out at the world around it. The terrible wall of sound is like the laughter of an earthquake: But all you hear is mindless hunger.

What is it that makes a great BBEG? Is it the amount of shit they put you through, the pure unlikability of the character, the fact they have a strong motive supporting their actions, or is it just their raw strength and challenge that makes it satisfying?

You've got a solid hold on North America, but South America is weak. Yellow could steam roll up north and fuck your noise.

Blue is definitely going to win, BTW.

I beat him on the computer though (pass n play)

I'm thinking RG Outriders with axes and accompanying Forgelord with rad grenades to hit some T3 troops with S6 power axes myself. Or infiltrating Destroyers in ZM for some rad-rocket surprises.

There's that Teenage Witch thing, but I don't think that's supposed to be taken seriously.

You could do a witch-coven themed game in Monsterhearts, using The Witch and maybe the Fae, the Infernal, the Mortal, and/or the Queen. Perhaps the Fury or the Anansi, too.

I can't think of any games built around witches specifically, though.
>>
Just do World of Darkness. You can custom literally everything to fit any show you like, and play with Core rulebook alone. You can add Mage and maybe Hunter books for functional rules and avoid customization.
WoD, any system really, can be used for practically any theme of game, just change descriptive words, keep alterations within similar rule parameters. Generally, make alterations less or equal to the original rule and never more. This is why people say, in a good game, the GM spends 10x more time preparing than playing in-game, even if it's just mentally reforming a book.

The first rule of going to war is bring a weapon that you know how to use. The second rule of going to war is bring a helmet. If it's a choice between having a shield, a second weapon or a helmet, ALWAYS TAKE THE HELMET. If you get a cut in the arm you can still fight, even if it hurts like hell. You get an arrow in the leg you can still give em hell even if you can't run. Even if you take a sword in the chest you generally have a few seconds in which you can strike back against the guy who stuck you. But if they get you in the brain that's it, your done and dead. Helmets are light, they're cheap and they protect your most important part of you.

If you don't have a helmet, you have no business being in an army.

Of course, when you're the hero of the story, you might have to forgo that kind of protection to make sure people can see your pretty face. It's not like fate's going to risk scarring it, anyway, when you have to look your best for your date with destiny.
