So I was flicking through some old fanzines I dug up today and rather enjoying a few features, when I thought "Hey! There must be at least 3 people on /tg/ who like Glorantha, and most people have never seen this sort of stuff"

I'm going to post a piece from Ye Booke Of Tentacles No.1, which was produced in 1998 as fund raising for the German convention "Tentacle Over Bacharach". It's a transcript from a panel recorded at RuneQuest-Con 1996 and is a few of the guys chatting about the nature of their campaign.

It will be followed by the entire magazine posted as a pdf (it has some lovely transcripts of Lore Q&As, an adventure module, some hackjob sorcery rules, and a couple of little extra bits)

In real life, if you ask a priest about holy water, he'll say it doesn't exactly have divine energy in it like a battery has electricity, it's a symbol that works via belief.
Once he stops treating it as holy, it's not, and it goes down the drain like any other water.
Knowing this, can a vampire be harmed by ordinary water he believes is holy, as a placebo effect?

The person being attacked's faith is what harms the vampire. Holy water is no more holy than a crucifix, both harm/keep it at bay, as they work as a focus for the person' faith. It is worth noting that vampires are hurt by regular water in some traditions as long as it is in movement.

You stare down at your midsection as though you can physically see through your clothes, your very flesh, looking at the tiny lives growing within you.

The six lives within you are tiny, each smaller than a pea, burrowing into your flesh to build their own personal life-support systems.

You are starkly aware of the plasma pistol in your hands – you were just checking it prior to your mission. After all, you could be seeing some tough fighting if the fae you are about to confront prove too difficult to control.

You take a deep breath, and with trembling hands, load and unload the plasma pistols powercell, you check that the trigger pulls smoothly, that there are no flaws or faults in any part of your gun. You place it back into its extradimensional space and draw forth another gun, checking them each in turn. Eventually your hands stop shaking, though your thoughts are still racing.

How did this happen? Well obviously the time Rainya wanted to experiment with her new shapechanging powers and- you blush at the memory.

But you'd been controlling your own hormone cycle to make such a thing impossible, or so your thought. Perhaps your divine aspects overrode even your powers.

Rainya doesn't know...and telling her right before going into a very dangerous situation could distract her, make her lose focus, maybe even get her killed. As remote a possibility as that sounds, with her able to leave a body back here, fighting fae and chaos mages mean strange things can happen, you'll all need your wits about you if things do not go as planned.

Of course, delaying telling her could really upset her too. Perhaps a compromise – telling her as soon as the danger is past?

Or maybe Rainya is stronger than you know, and can carry this knowledge without it compromising her ability to fight.

What do you guys think about players being able to play all humanoid races mixed in a party or should the be limited to "evil" or "good" humanoid races from the setting?

How many humanoid races do you guys think should exist in a setting so that it doesn't become to many or a race is only defined by a special trait?

Great number is 7. Example: Humans, Elves, Nagas (full reptile but distinctly humanoid), Naghaji, orcs, dwarves, and gnomes. Also add in a few half-breed races if you're wanting more exotic options. Each one has their own special place in society and it doesn't feel like there's too many races running around.

I think it's better to put more emphasis on different countries and societies, rather than races - when every race in the setting is a monoculture it reeks of laziness. As for number of races, 5-7 is the best number for high fantasy. Split them into different societies and you have just enough variety.

Look, man. Fate/Stay Night is not a good setting to run an RPG campaign in. Why?

Because the format doesn't work. You have seven Masters and seven Servants: Unless all the PCs constitute one 'Master' team and/or one Servant, they already have a hilarious advantage. Unless it's a PvP game, and then you have the problem of everyone being at the table when they kill each other.

More, have you seen the anime? People don't fight like PCs. PCs go after an enemy until he dies. They don't let him go: "Haha, next time I will use my truest power!" Instead, they'd go: "Saber, nuke him. What's that? You'll destroy a whole apartment block? I don't care, do it anyway."

Imagine if Tokimi had gone "Hey, I'm not sure Kariya is dead. I better follow him down into the alley and fry his corpse." Or if someone like Gilgamesh had been taking things seriously - "All right, I'm just going to hit you with Level 99 weapons until you die. I can do this for weeks on end."

Seriously, HOW are you going to run a campaign like that? It's fucking impossible. What makes for an interesting narrative does not a good RPG make. Every fight would end with "I'll finish you next ti - You know what, Berseker? Butcher both of them and bring me their heads. It's cool, I got enough mana."

Hey /tg/, Im doing some generic tokens and ran out of ideas for symbols. I'm doing them like a coin, where the front has a drawing, while the back is blank, therefore can be used for groups of enies, like a pack if gnolls. You guys got any tips, symbols or recomendations to add for the medium, large and huge (and maybe gargantuan) tokens?

Hi /tg/, first time poster here.
I like lurking a lot around here and there's one thing that bothers me.
I'm a big completionist. When I play a game I like finding all the collectibles, endings and secrets like a lot of you.
When I used to discover new websites, like the SCP Foundation for instance or something with a lot of content, I like to read every single article or look at every single one video of a youtube channel etc...

The reason I'm here is for the CYOAs. I'm a huge fan of these. But since the day I discovered them, I tried to find a place where there would be an exhaustive list of CYOAs, like possibly ALL of them.

I know there's the /tg/booru, I know the "search the archive with cyoa" but they are not entirely complete.
There is no website completely dedicated to CYOAs that contain every single one of them is it?

Or do one of you guys possess a complete file of CYOAs that you could dl or something?

I feel like Elven fighter are not played a lot, and when they are they're always a DEX build and archers or duar sword rangers.

I would imagine that in elven societies there would be a least a sizable portion of melee fighters. Why under represent Elven fighters?

Also people forget that the common conception of the elf is mostly still living in the forests and pelting invaders with arrows; they don't usually do the whole industry thing enough to get full plate armor or train on warhorses and stuff like that.

It depends on what kind of elves you are going for though, strong elves could totally work well as high elves or even wood elves, it just depends on how you play and characterize elves.

My setting doesn't even fucking have any elves.

I've got a group of mates that I've started DMing D&D for. We are all new to the game and one of the issues I'm having is getting people to play in-character. We've had 3 or 4 sessions and previously they just tell me what they want to do or what they want to say to an NPC, but don't actually engage as their character.

We are playing again tomorrow and I've posted in our D&D group saying I really want everyone to play and interact with each other in-character in the session. I've asked them that it they talk at the table, unless it is to clarify a rule or mechanic, they should make an effort to do it as their character communicating with another character/NPC, rather than just as them talking to someone else at the table or talking to me instead of the NPC.

I can understand that nobody wants to be the first to do a weird voice, even though nobody would care if it was shit and said that if everyone does it I'm sure we'll all be more comfortable doing it and get more enjoyment out of the session.

3 out of the 4 players all seem really excited with the idea and the added immersion it will bring, but one has flat-out refused to "do a voice". Any suggestions on how to encourage him to play in-character more?

Do I just encourage the others to talk in-character and lead by example with the NPCs, hoping he starts doing it so he's not the only one playing differently? I honestly think he's just embarrassed because he's a pretty quiet guy. Any suggestions?

"Doing voices" isn't really for everyone.

Don't feel like you've got to force them into it because so long as they get the in-character interactions going and actually roleplay, it really shouldn't matter if their character sounds differently than the person playing it.

Who does this? Everyone I've ever gamed with uses their normal speaking voice as their character's voice. Except maybe the DMs when trying to differentiate between different NPCs.

Yeah sorry I should've clarified. The voice isn't a priority, I just get the impression form him that he doesn't want to be the character (voice or no), he just wants to be Anon playing that character. I don't care if he uses his voice or makes up some random one, I just want them to do a bit of RP.

My players just had a hard moment of their campaign, where they decided to try and kill an NPC who had been with them since the beginning. They didn't feel good about it, and felt worse than the NPC gave them three chances to simply lead.

They were however not expecting to actually lose the fight, but the guy managed to wreck them. The session ended two hours ago with two of the PC's running dragging a third after one had already died. I decided to drink. I need to know though what you guys think of the NPC.

He is a man in his early fifties, the majority of his life spent in a field behind a plow. As such he has the weather worn and leathery body of someone used to working for ten hours a day. At the beginning of the campaign his livelihood and family farm, owned for generations, was burned down as the town ransacked. His wife and one son killed, only his young son surviving.

From here he became a soldier. In game it is now three years later and the man rising through the ranks and winning hard earned victories including ending a siege highhandedly.

The players later realize that the invaders are actually the good one in the grand scheme of things, and that the country the NPC belongs to the corrupt oligarchy. They tried to reason with him, but he gave this answer.

"I am so tired, so tired. Do I look like a man who can leave a life and start anew? I am a farmer, nothing more. I need to keep fighting for my son, for when this war is over he might have a better life than mine. The seeds of his future do not care who's blood feeds it, mine and enemy alike do not matter. I am a farmer, and am merely harvesting a different crop. Please, just leave, I do not want to have to lose more friends."

How is this for a confrontation?

He had been a soldier at that point and fighting for his life for four years straight. He has proven himself a commander and fighter. They knew he was strong.

He had more time in the field than the party.
