they still update it frequently
is the yearly frostmas event going on right now?
>>44194063
Oh it is?
Well shit. Let's see if i still have my old account, Will show pictures if found.
and that original MS paint town map
So I noticed that from setting to setting definitions of orcs, ogres and trolls can change quite a lot and differences between them get quite blurry
So, if you had to make setting that includes them all (and plus goblins and hobgoblins) how would you do it? How would you differentiate them from each other?
Or you could name a setting that does it the best in your opinion.
>>44194013
I like warhams
Orcs are man sized green things
Trolls are tall ass dumb monsters
Goblins are puny green things
Hob Goblins are slightly larger puny green things that backstab like crazy
Ogres are giant fat human look a likes
>>44194013
>So, if you had to make setting that includes them all (and plus goblins and hobgoblins) how would you do it? How would you differentiate them from each other?
In my setting:
>Orcs
A touch larger than your average human, skin color varies in shades from greens and browns
Faces resemble a mash up of a gorilla and a Gamorrean Guard, but they are not p'orcs.
Extremely violent culture.
>Ogres
Larger than people, a 9 foot tall ogre is not uncommon, covered in hair, proportioned differently from humans.
Savage, brutish cannibals, not unlike giant, carnivorous cavemen.
Intelligence and kindness are rare traits.
>Trolls
Two classes of trolls:
There are grey and brown skinned giant, stupid trolls that regenerate all damage and turn to stone in sunlight.
There are also grey and green skinned human sized trolls that regenerate all damage aside from burns and are not affected by sunlight.
>Goblins
Goblins are small, green humorously destructive creatures with large ears.
In fact, there are no goblins, just gremlins from the movie, Gremlins.
>Hobgoblins
If you need them, they would be a larger breed of goblins that are nearly as large as smaller humans.
I don't use them myself.

Orc - Green skin, tusks, 6'6 feet tall, 400lbs. Turko-Mongol boar riders that wield the most powerful bows in the world and carry massive scimitars that function more like axes than actual swords. They worship the Great Thunderous Boar God of the Steppe, that they believe created them with the sole purpose of conquering the world. Despite being extremely warlike, they are very tolerant. Those that they conquer are often allowed to keep their religion, culture, etc. Those that defy them are usually enslaved or wiped out, their buildings defaced and their lands settled by Orcish colonists. Their own culture is fairly weak and they are prone to adopting the culture, language, and sometimes even religion of those they have subjugated. This tends to anger the hardcore traditionalists back east to the point that civil war ensues. Because of this, Orcish empires tend to last little more than a 100-200 years.
Ogres - Cousins of the orcs and possible ancestors. Towering mountains of muscle. 15 feet tall, several thousand pounds heavy. Tusks, bumpy horn-like forehead ridges. Reddish-brown skin. Once created one of the most prosperous and advanced civilizations of antiquity. Their ancient empires stretched far to the west, making contact with elves and dwarves. They overreached and attempted to conquer the west, but were driven back. As they attempted to recover, the orcs came howling down from the northern steppe and absolutely demolished them. The few ogres that remain live in their heavily fortified city-states or far-flung western outposts. More than a few live as barbaric nomads and can sometimes be found integrated into orcish hordes. Sometimes, a particularly powerful and cunning ogre will even rise to the top of an orcish horde and claim the mantle of khan for himself.
I'm asking for some DM advice here.
I like creating stories and involving my players as characters in the play. I like passion and joviality and deep psychological underpinnings in my games. I like dialogue and role-playing.
My group that I've been playing with for 20+ years used to do the same but lately (in the last 2-3 years) isn't into it.
It is my turn to DM a campaign and I started to do world building on my own and plot out character arcs for NPCs and PCs. etc. etc. I then remembered that this is for all of us to have fun and not to jack myself off with. I asked them what they like to do and play. "Dungeons", "combat", "More of a guided adventure". So basically they want railroad dungeon crawls.
I've compromised. A bit of roleplaying and such at he new town they've wandered to and at the tavern, etc. Then they can go clear out the rats in the gigantic, gothic cellar and then the crypt next door.
The issue is that not even that is really working. The tavern keep introduces himself and asks their names. Crickets. The busty Mayor's daughter pleads for help! Silence. The shopkeep asks if they need any equipment. No one says anything.
Ok fine.. I will plop them in the dungeon in the next 30 seconds by fiat. "Ok, you're now in the damp, underground cellar. There are three doors in the room. The fungus growing on the walls lights the place dimly and you hear scuffles and shuffling from the east and west.
- Silence from players.
"Do you investigate the room?"
"yeah"
"Tell me what you're looking for"
"Anything helpful."
"You find a leather bound tome with a lock that has worn out from age."
- Silence
"Do you open it?"
-"yeah"
so on and so on.
40 minutes later.
"OK! Do you want to go through a door?"
"Sure."
"WHICH DOOR?"
- Silence
"Do you want to listen to the door on the left?"
- "ok."
"You hear orcish voices."
-5 minutes of silence
"You guys have to give me something to play off of, here!"
- Silence
"
>>44193521
"Do you want to light a torch for better light? OK. you do and you find a gem that was dark but reflects the light and magnifies it. It is beautiful and alien."
-Silence.
3 hours of this BS.
"You go back to town after slaying the cultists in the cavern. The mayor greets you and asks what happened and if you saw his dear son."
Silence
"Voice of mayor: My friends, your timely arrival has brought shame on me but good fortune for this town! How can I be a leader while I did not know what was going on in my own town!? Will you please help now with XYZ?"
Silence
"Mayor Voice: Well! I know that the town 20 miles north is having kobold problems!"
Silence
"Mayor Voice: and a dragon problem to the east!"
Silence
"OK guys, what do you want to do now?"
"I dont know"
"God damnit! I can't do this anymore. You dont even want to do a dungeon crawl. I cannot railroad you anymore unless I explicitly state how your character moves and thinks. We might as well play WoW if you want to interaction."
"Why are you such a dick?"
Im about to give up.
Ditch those shitty players, problem solved.
>>44193521
It sounds like they just aren't interested in story or puzzles or anything, and they just want to kill shit.
You either want to do this
>>44193737
or just give them a linear dungeon with some fights and then either write a novel or find another group or something to get your story on with.
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

"Captain" Heresy, Space Pirate Extraordinaire*
*Note: Incompetent bumbling buffoon who couldn't hurt a fly, but not for lack of trying. The only reasons he's a captain are 1. His sponsor has no standards, and 2. The majority of his crew are robots, and thus technically his property.
He's always sipping Grape juice from a wine glass, wearing a fancy tuxedo under his "pirate" trenchcoat, and generally trying but failing to be classy as hell. I will admit, he is the comedy relief of the party, but given who I play with, I got one or two people who help with his zany plots.

Jerardo Zeppeli, member of the Hamon Mafia, master of Hamon and Master of Hamon and Sendo.
My friend is running a JJBA game, and he needed a Zeppeli, and I don't mind dying for the good of the party.
I'm a new player. People may remember me as the guy with the dead dog in the evil forest backstory
Half elf wandering ranger
Doesn't care about sound logic and just does whatever makes sense to him. Cant follow a plan, but he has good instincts. If someone tells him he can't do something, he's motivated to do it.
For my first encounter, he went into an arena without weapons to fight a giant scorpion. Grappled the scorpion, ripped its stinger off, and beat the scorpion to death with it. For being a badass that one time, he's offered bonuses to come fight and weapons dealers want to sponsor him in the arena.

Yeah no, that would already be setting off all kinds of warning bells.

/tg/, I'm making a Lumberjack character for a D&D 5th edition game. The whole home-brew thing is kind of new to me, so I'd like some suggestions as to how I could make my character more like a Lumberjack.
Just make him a barbarian. Use a wood axe as your main weapon. Climb and craft (wood) are your skills.
Fighter with a wilderness background and focus on axe wielding

I am gonna make an exception for today since it's the last day we're questing, and I am gonna give you a brief summary of what happened this far.
Our hero wakes up in an hospital, an alleged victim of amnesia. He's rescued by Iwanako, pretty much the same day Hisao dies. By her own suggestion, Johnathan (this is the MC's name) is sent to Yamaku, a school built to cater to students in need of special cares.
He's met with outright hostility by his classmates, and one fateful night, by being at the wrong place at the wrong time, he accidentally joins a war in which students use "Heroic Spirits" or "Servants" as proxies. The prize is the Holy Grail, a wish-granting machine.
John manages to summon Saber, the strongest class of Heroes. After investigating on the spell Caster has thrown on the school, he becomes closer to his former Master, who warns him of Emi, a girl that wanted John because of his intrusion. The showdown between Emi and John occurs the following day, with John winning albeit losing his left arm, which is promptly replaced by Saber's.
Thanks to the help he receives from Rin, Caster's Master, John discovers the truth about Emi and her motivations. He forgives her and moves on. Meanwhile it is discovered that Assassin was defeated.
John is then confronted by Misha, who wants to defeat him to impress the girl she loves, Shizune. The sheer force and trump cards of Berserker allow him to come on top, and Saber is defeated. Thus his true identity is revealed: he is Hisao, the boy who died prior to the events of the war.
Unbeknownst to John and Misha, Shizune observed the scene. She decided to cut her ties with Misha after discovering that she defeated Hisao, the boy she was in love with.
(1/2)
>>44192263
The two will fight in season 2, with Lancer, Shizune's servant, defeating Berserker using his Noble Phantasm. Misha and John grow closer together, and John teaches her the importance of standing up for herself.
John then talks with Lilly, Archer's Master, but he gets upset at what Lilly says about Misha.
Recognizing he might have overreacted, he meets Lilly outside the school to apologize, only to discover Lancer and Archer will be fighting that day. Shizune uses a Command Spell to force Lancer to attack Lilly, after which Lancer decides to break his contract with her and leave. Lilly then explains that John is the incarnation of the Lesser Grail, and that he must be destroyed in order to stop the wars for the Holy Grail from happening again. With the powers granted to him by Saber, John fights back and eventually wins. He is then taken to the Greater Grail by his sister (the Greater Grail itself) and shown how reality has changed because of him. Now it's up to John to decide what he wants to do with his wish, keeping in mind the two promises he made: he promised Iwanako never to forget her, and he promised Hisao he would fix this reality. Needless to say, these promises are mutually exclusive.
Now it's up to you guys. When we left off last time I wasn't done exploring the background story of every Master, so if you want I can do that.
Otherwise we can skip to the decision.
>>44192272
>states at end of last thread that he wants to devote more time to Rin
>gives option to skip Rin
OP, I...As if I would do anything other than vote for
>Ask about Rin, dammit
>Needless to say, these promises are mutually exclusive.
Only if the Grail is limited in power.

What's a good ship for a bounty hunter?
So, I'm having some trouble deciding on the soft retcons I want for my Remnant game, they mostly involve rolling back Super-weapon creep, taking /swg/s idea about Daala being more of a ground and trooper commander than an admiral, and making a less-stupid version of Dark Empire.
I decided on Clone Palpatine as a figurehead that wasn't (Completely?) possessed by the original's sith spirit who is eventually outed leading to the chaos of the Empire turning on itself shortly after retaking Coruscant. No Suncrusher, No galaxy gun, Yes Eclipse 1&2, Maybe World Devastators. Yes Eye of Palpatine (The Senex/Juvex got their dirty hands on it and managed to mostly repair it.) Knight Hammer survives Endor but is partially destroyed, ends up getting fused with deepdock shipyard segments to form a mobile construction station instead of bothering with a full repair.
Also, am I the only one here who always confuses Generals Madine, Reikan, and Cracken?
>>44192135
That includes buying "Fresh" fissile material and storing the Still-recyclable but off-limits waste I'd imagine.
>>44192113
Whatever gets the job done.
If you look at some of the ships used by bounty hunters in the EU, there's a lot of variance. They're usually souped up, like a smuggler's ship too. Personally, I like to make wholecloth custom ships because EotE makes it pretty painless.

Boy was the last thread a fucking Roller coaster of insanity.
When we last left out hero, Gabriel, you had just laid with your Elven friend, Holly, through a series of nat 20s.
Besides that, you have discovered where the secrets of your past might lay. On the Line, where the Imperium and the Telvish have been fighting for over 200 years. Some where in that war torn hell hole lies the Golem Forge.
Hollys parents have obtained a large fortune from a distant relative who passed away, and through some pursious on your part, have approved of their Daughters lust for adventure, and will be financing for expedition. While they are busy sorting that out, and while you await for the Master Smith to finish building your new armor and mods, you spend some more time at the Library, searching for more answers.
First you search for books on Golemancy, and find nothing of relative interest.
Next you search for any records of sightings of Underkin after their flight fallowing The Big One. Records in the Palace Library reveal that several times in the past 25 years, unknown ships have been sighted off the Southern coast of the Imperium, but these sightings are few and far between, and the strange ships vanish far into uncharted waters before they can be investigated.
>>44191261
The name 'SilverCog' comes up once, in a document recovered from a Under Kingdom Ruin. It states that she volunteered for the Mark Two Golem Program, and was a 'Successful Transfer'. What ever that means.
Further investigation into the Mark Two program bares little fruit. All you can find is that the Program started one year before the Big One.
All of this research makes your head hurt. Which is something you didn't even know was possible. You decide to take a break.
As you begin to get up from the specially constructed chair, your grip your head in pain. This is an alien feeling to you.
You pass out.
When you awaken you are no longer in the Library. You are in someones house. It doesn't take you long to realize this is a memory.
Your body is not the rough pipe construct it was before. You have a strange body of metal and wood. You wear the laughter of children in the other room.
What do you do?
>>44191999
Investigate sounds.
>>44192078
Walking in this body feels... right? You think thats the right word. You lumber into the next room and find 5 children all playing a game together. Your memory tells you that these children age 12, 10, two 6 year olds (twins) and 3 year old. One of the twins looks up at you.
"Hey look!" She yells. "One is awake!" all of them abandon their game and run to you.
"Mom said he'd be asleep all day!" The oldest says, he is a short little boy, with black hair and the typical leathery Dwarven skin. "Wanna play with us One? You can be the Butler!"
The names of these children are lost to you, but you remember that they are CilverCogs kids. All of them. One of the twins crawls onto you back. "His new body is so cool!" She says.

What's the best way to keep players interested at the start of a campaign? I keep resorting to shit like "bandit attacks" and even if there is a deeper reason behind it, its usually to early to let them know about it. What are some more creative early level encounters? Pic unrelated.
>>44190431
The start of a campaign is the best time for them to be reactionary, swept up in events. It's the time that their characters are the least defined, they're the least comfortable in their characters, and the characters have the most room for growth.
It's also when your plot is the least established and the details are most fluid.
It's the best time to just have the plot snatch the players up and get things going, why would anyone start the story with filler content?
>>44190923
A* post, this is where you can test your players, maybe kill off or retire a character if they want to make a last minute swap.
