Your DM wants to add a support NPC to your party, and decided to give you the choice of whether it will be:
-An Adopted Daughter/Son
-A Familiar
-A Potential Love Interest
The details beyond that are not quite set, though he's willing to hear your suggestions about the NPC.
>>44201850
Familiar, obviously.
>>44201850
Can multiple options be combined
I choose all three. In one character.
Have you ever played a deformed or disfigured character? I don't mean the handsome perfectly fit warrior with the attractive perfectly straight scar across his eye, I mean somebody really physically fucked to where they're repulsive or weird. Did it make for a more interesting roleplaying experience?
Does playing a dwarf count?
>playing CoC
>character gets hit in the abdomen
>roll for damage
>damage is abdomen's hp*2, which means the body part was sliced in half
>still had one or two hp points left so he survived
playing a wheelchair bound character sounded impractical so I retired him

Horrible facial scars from an incident involving pressurized acidic steam. Wore a mask to cover that fact up.
Of the other two PCs he went around with, one actively avoided looking at him whenever he took the mask off, with frequent utterances of "nononono" beforehand.
The other was definitely put off initially, but didn't really show it as much.
Become The Vampire 17
You grab your phone and send a message to Meliora to thank her for watching out for Sammy, as well as to ask her to let Sammy know you're alright and that you're looking forward to track in the afternoon. There's no immediate reply from her, and you follow up with a message to Sammy to tell her you're fine. You look at the message, and elaborate a bit, letting her know you're not mad and that if she doesn't at least message you back that she's fine you'll do something childish and frustrating.
You consult your hemomancy tome, sifting through it and using your phone to help translate sections of the text. Blood magic is the art of sacrifice, and you spend a little time seeing what types of sacrifice exist and what the spells you're capable of require. Most of them draw directly upon and make use of your blood, crude spells powered by the raw magic held within that vital fluid. There's nothing delicate or subtle about them, like the spells you used with Jennifer. You only cast a few comparatively minor spells before burning out completely.
The other types of sacrifice seem to be rather esoteric, concepts like knowledge or ability. The spell that extracted truth worked by causing someone to sacrifice their ability to lie. Apparently it takes more brain power to lie or something, and the sacrifice is access to that ability, which you were only able to “sacrifice” because it was offered to you. The blood cost for that was fairly minor in terms of actual fluid spent, and mainly you just needed to form the array for the spell.
You flip to the spell to manipulate objects after a brief search, which sacrifices “bodily energy” to allow you to control the movements of small objects, about the size of a fist. From what you can surmise it expends calories, twice the amount as actually moving the object yourself. There's no weight limit, just a size limit; something that can easily be grasped with one hand. The caloric burn is relative to the weight. You could manipulate a lead weight, but raising a kite into the air, according to the spell, would be impossible. The price is paid based on how you move the object. Keeping it steady costs much less than flinging it with some force.
After some debate, as well as making sure that the spell won't require too much blood, you decide to cast the spell. You form the array from your blood and cast it as a held spell. You practice with a pencil, then a book, and finally your phone. So long as you can visualize it, you can even type messages with your phone in your pocket or activate your suit app. You check your phone and spot a message from Sammy, opening it as you head to the bathroom to wash up and get changed for breakfast.
“I'm fine, but I can't face you. I bit you. I'm so sorry.”
You set your phone down and step into the shower, scrubbing yourself down. You feel like you should be worried about something, but you can't think of what. You step out of the shower and dry off, before sending Sammy a message that you forgive her for it. As you pull on your uniform, it dawns on you why she would be so upset and fearful of your reaction.
You were bitten by a werewolf.

How much steampunk with actual magic, nonhuman races, etc. have you seen recently? Especially in tabletop games?
How do I make a character who's defining trait is "bland" interesting?
Gotta milk it for all it's worth in the meta
If something bland becomes interesting it ceases to be bland.

You can't. That's like asking "How do I make n ocean dry?" You can hypothetically, but if you do so, then it ceases to be an ocean.

Are Orcs/Orks capable of seeing entirely purple things?
Can Orcs/Orks juju/gestalt the effects of colors onto other races?
Can Orcs/Orks that meet in a hypothetical scenario join a WAAAGH?
Could Black Orcs learn and understand Ork tech, or would the down-to-earth Black Orcs actually be able to understand, reproduce, and reverse-engineer the tech of other races without relying on Orky belief power?
Could Goblins bully Orks into doing their manual labor like they do Orcs?
Orcs and Goblins have gods other than Gork and Mork/Mork and Gork. Do Orks and Gretchin?
Chaos Dwarfs bred a specific subrace of Orcs. Could Orks be selectively bred by the Tau in a similar fashion?
Why do Orks care if there's enough dakka if they still haven't figured out the basics of having enough stabba?
>>44199216
You'd have to find orks that admit purple exists first.
Why would they want other things not orks to have benefits of colour? That's an orky thing, and no orks aren't orky enough for that.
Down to earth for a black orc means smashing manually. Metal is okay because its basically a rock, but anything else is mucking about.
A sufficiently large number of well organized goblins could probably pull it off for a short period of time on sufficiently lame orcs. But they're goblins, they'd fuck it up sooner or later.
Gretchin have Da Red Gobo and Da Secret Kommite, so sort of?
I thought hobgoblins were special goblins, not orcs? Are fantasy orcs/gobos spore based or something else?
You can always have more choppieness and shootieness. Its not exclusive. Best to have both.
>>44199380
>Why would they want other things not orks to have benefits of colour? That's an orky thing, and no orks aren't orky enough for that.
Orcs in Fantasy wound up alliwing a Giant Orchood because he was green and big. Even if he ate them sometimes.
>Down to earth for a black orc means smashing manually. Metal is okay because its basically a rock, but anything else is mucking about.
They understand machinery and can actually create things rather than loot and reshape. They're mych more like Tolkien Orcs.
>I thought hobgoblins were special goblins, not orcs?
Chaos Dwarfs bred Orc spores until they created Black Orcs, who are so un-Orcy they frighten and anger Savage Orcs.
>Are fantasy orcs/gobos spore based or something else?
Mostly spores. They had females and children prior to 4e, and whether sexually reproducing ones exist is something some Fantasy fans debate. Basically no, but with wiggle room if you really wanted there to be.
>>44199380

“Anything else?”
The interviewer taps her cards on the table to regain her composure. She’s stalling to come up with a way to angle this against you.
You don’t wait. You get up, grab the old straw hat off the floor, dust it off, and leave out into the dark night.
Outside, waiting for you, you see Dick. His large, ogre-looking friend is with him.
“You made me look bad on television. You could call this revenge, but this actually a matter of pedigree. See, pokemon breeders know when they have a really good line. Something that sets that pokemon above the rest.”
His large friend grabs for the hat. You’re fast and you pull it back. But that was a trap. As you hold it up and away, a flying pokemon knocks it out of your hand and into the mud.
“Problem is, of course, that sometimes the lesser pokemon become jealous. They think they’re entitled to the same...”

Navigators are quintessential to the continued operation and survival of the Imperium. Their ability to guide ships through the Immaterium is irreplaceable. Without them, even the smallest of interstellar gulfs would be impossible to cross without the most detailed and ancient of charts. Any vessel missing one is limited to warp jumps of only a few light years in length, at great peril to both ship and crew. As such, these mutants are in high demand and wield great power.
You are one such gifted individual.
There are countless Navigator Houses within the Imperium, each backed by their own colorful history. Yours, the Shrouded House of Girad, is no exception. Once a grand and influential House, the current Girad is but a shadow of its former self. What exactly caused the fall from grace generations ago has been muddied with time. But while other Houses refer to yours as a “beggar house,” the overall effect on your upbringing was hardly noticeable. Possibly due to the fact that your homeworld of Kessae was where Girad was founded.
Your training as a Navigator was interspersed with lessons on bargaining and contract hunting. Most of your kind are sheltered from such needs, giving you a leg up in the social arena. You also dabbled in matters of Archeotech whenever possible. Combined with your studies on Rogue Trading, you feel you bring a lot to the table.
All was not well for you growing up, however. During a training session, in which you were piloting a small trading vessel between systems, pirates descended. You were only able to escape the ambush by performing an emergency warp jump. Yet before you could complete the transition the ship’s Gellar Field was damaged. What happened in those terrifying few hours as the field flickered still haunts you to this day. It’s partially why you’re only just now becoming comfortable with the idea of leaving the safety of your House behind.

The day of your departure from Kessae is filled with celebration and good tidings from your House. You’re even gifted an Ancestral Seal from the House Novator in the hopes it will aid your journey. After that you are whisked away to the spaceport to catch a transport to Port Goston, the main headquarters for Battlefleet Calixis. There you hope to meet up with your new home vessel...

> [4] The Shadow Hornet, a Repulsive-class Grand Cruiser owned by the Rogue Trader Rana Fisger. Unlike the others, you’d be the backup Navigator rather than the main one.

It’s been awhile since I’ve run one of these so bear with me. Hopefully we won’t stray far from canon but that tends to happen with 40k anyways. If it turns out to be liked I’ll drop a Twitter at the end. If/When we need to roll, it’ll be best of three 1d100’s, roll under a value just like in RT. No rerolls for the time being. 10 minute limit on most voting. QM Fiat to break ties or as needed.

Information: After defeating a band of Frieza soldiers lead by an elite named Cui, Daikon and his allies found themselves pursued by the brutal and powerful Zarbon and Dodoria. When confronted, Daikon was able to tap into the strange source of power from before, and defeated Zarbon despite the latter's transformation. Dodoria attempted to flee, but was shot down and soon killed. Now, Daikon and his team find themselves wondering what Frieza will send their way next.
Welcome to Saiyan Quest. This takes place in the years Frieza controlled Planet Vegeta, as the Saiyans grow in strength and try to find a way to free themselves.
Voting will operate on a first to five system, at least for the time being.
Dialogue is allowed to be added to votes, as are actions (though I'll ignore what I consider shitposting)
During battles, options will usually have a number assigned to them. After that vote has won, players will roll a d100, and have three chances to match or beat that number.
If a 100 is rolled, it is considered a crit success (unless 100 was the number you had to match).
If a 1 is rolled, it is a crit failure, regardless of whether or not the other two rolls are high enough to succeed.
If, during a battle, players want to attempt a writein action, that is allowed, but I am the one who will assign the number to it, so use caution
You're a young male Saiyan who fought in the war with the Tuffles. You've become one of the most powerful Saiyans in the universe, but there's still potential for you to grow stronger.

We have witches, we have demons, we have goblins, and mad kings. We have stories of royal succession that would put Wolf Hall to shame. We beat the Tudors two times over."
>He's absolutely right. There's already a severe dearth of central black and brown characters in high fantasy. Judging from his letters and legendarium, Tolkien's work featured an inherent bias against "dark" peoples, usually casting them as servants of Morgoth and Sauron (though his writing did evolve to reject that early racism). George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire isn't much better, despite our collective love for Khal Drogo. These works are incredible on their own, but are inherently limited.
>A series with A Song of Ice and Fire's scope but set in medieval Africa would challenge how Western readers understand fantasy and the role of people of color in the genre.

Because in the settingof my bookAfrica as a continent is largely irrelevant because it is halfway across the world, and the African Union (the dominant government) only interacts with the setting in a cursory, exploratory fashion due to the size and impracticality of anything else, including conquest.
Far, far more important are the New Confederacy, the Cuban Socialist Republics, the Nueva Mexica, the Sabinites, the Mississippi River States, the Republic of Texas, the East Texas Empire, and Fort Cypress, as they are what the party interacts with either directly (RoT, ETE, Cypress, Aztecs, Sabinites) or indirectly (Confederacy, CSR, MRS).
Mongoose Traveller thread
Problem: Due to lucky rolls in char creation and some implants, my players are practically rolling for Effect now. Combat is now simply 'Who rolls for higher damage faster' and the players always win because 90% of the time they're just rolling for Effect. How to mitigate this? Or not?
Also I'm plum running out of Traveller adventure ideas. I've tried dipping in Shadowrun and Star Wards adventures but was wondering if anyone had anything cool they ever ran.
