Hello everyone and welcome to ShitterNormie's Machine Civ part 2!

Excellent question anon! We are the head AI of a group of drones and multi-purpose machines. Remember anon...if the main AI is destroyed the civ is lost!
>Where are we Shitter?
We are located in the side of a volcano. Our base (which can be given a new name) was built by our old masters: The gnomes. They're dead now because of orcs. But here we are! We are a large super computer that is position in the center of the main room of the volcano-side base. So far the current rooms we have are 1 door leading to the outside world, 1 drone building facility, 1 machine building facility, 1 steel mine, 1 generator room, and 2 locked rooms.

Of course anon! We managed to unlock the generator room and can now upgrade it, #6 was taught country music, we attempted to make contact with the gnolls, prepared for a troll hunt with some flamer drones, got some maintenance drones, and found out that we hated orcs!

I'm going to try and play a character who has a mutation, although the GM said I'll auto-fail every diplomacy and charisma roll if I do. How do I get around this?

What's the mutation? You didn't give a whole lot of information.

Also, its the GM's game, he can do whatever he wants and you probably won't be able to do anything about but talk to him.

What's supposed to actually go in this thread? Stories of GMs doing nice shit for their players? That would require players to be appreciative, which is seems unlikely.

I own a cafe as part of a garden center.

My brothers group meet there every week. The tables are spacious. The chairs are comfy. There is hot chocolate, tea, coffee, bacon sandwiches and all manner of snacks and treats.

I tried to make it all good.

Then they took the piss and started bringing in their own food.

I feel pissed off and betrayed. Is this a normal feeling?

Also if they are going to be taking up half the cafe and not buying anything should I charge them for table space?

Can we have a thread dedicated to Fate? I got to play it fairly recently, and as a former nay-sayer, I'm pretty impressed with it. It's a well built little game.

Sure.

I was really excited to play FATE. Then I played it. Over a handful of sessions my DM never invoked an aspect of mine. I could only really punch things because I put that at the top of my pyramid since no one else took anything close to combat. We did not get our max fate points each session, sometimes it was 2-3 sessions before we would get points.

Game was still fun, and I had fun with the guys. But I was not impressed by FATE.

It honestly might. But it's the only experience I have to go on. I'm not saying I wouldn't give the system another shot, but it really didn't wow me.

But I do think the pyramid thing was limiting my ability to do much non-combat. But maybe that was just me mis-remembering.

Ran a Battletech campaign for a bit before schedulign issues tore it apart. ANd I just ran everyone as part of a military unit. They were stationed at a specific base, mapped out the surrounding area, had plenty of NPCs both Military and Civilian to interact with. Sent them on training runs, had them fight pirates and "pirates that oddly speak the language and use the mechs of our hostile neighbors". Had some of the hijinks that ensue on a backwater base, gambling rings, black marketeers, surprise inspections. It was a little bit Generation Kill+Robotech+Sgt Bilko.

One of my players thinks cyclops are cool and has asked me to include some in my campaign. I think they're stupid, but I like it when players do things by their own initiative, so I'm gonna do it, somehow.

I figure someone on /tg/ has to have opinions or mythological savvy when it comes to these things. Tell me, /tg/, what makes a cyclops anything but a sillier version of a giant?

That's pretty good. The players expect one-eyed, brutish fatsacks, but they run into towering monsters in flawless steel armour, hurling spears forged out of lightning while being gleefully evil and cannibalistic. Maybe I'll have them be related to Talos or something. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hammerfell?

I’m trying to calculate some stuff in AnyDice. I’m designing a dice mechanic based around throwing a number of dice and keeping the highest, which is fairly easy to output, BUT I'd want to add a parameter where if two dice show the same result (i.e a pair) then you count both of them as a single die in terms of what you keep. Would someone know if this can be coded, and if so how?

So, I have to ask, has anyone been punished, or outright kicked from their groups for getting too into character?

I ask this, because I was kicked out of my online DnD group(long story short, a few of them seem to have it out for me, but most of them seem to have no problem with me at all or not care one way or the other) over a one-shot campaign where we were doing a John Carpenter's the Thing based game.
I was playing an asshole chemist, I made no short knowledge that my character did not have much of a moral compass. So when a small group of us donned bio-suits and disposed of an infected dog's body through fire, my mind instantly went to what a chemist would actually do next.

Quarantine protocols.
I was accused of meta-gaming for being hostile towards someone from the larger group that wasn't in bio-suits coming too close to the group that we knew were not infected, that raised some red flags, so I made sure to try and keep him from my group who were retrieving the flamethrower and various other useful fun toys.
Although, in this case, by being hostile, it was holding a lit torch in the guy's face. The guy playing the character still holds this as me being hostile to him as a player, it was not, his character was breaking protocols, and had to be treated as a potential carrier, so I felt it best to try and burn him.

That action resulted in some butthurt from him, and the GM saying that my character wouldn't be that crazy. They would not even listen to me explain my thought process on this.

It didn't matter in the end, even if I did try my hardest to hold onto life in a horror campaign, the thing won with three of it's members being outside of a massive explosion that happened right next to me.
Sadly, I did not cause it.

I am not looking for validation, I'm just asking if this has actually happened to anyone else before.

That's kind of ironic, considering the conflict in The Thing is 98% about the research team turning on each other and suspecting one another of being the monster.

Without context, it's hard to say whether they were fair or not. Online interaction in particular is harder because there's fewer tells (that is, it's pretty easy to have a misunderstanding go too far).

Might be kinda hard to fluff onto male characters, but whenever I make thiefy female characters, I always give them a hairpin or some other item or jewelry or ornament that can be used as a makeshift shank. I also usually keep it keep it poisoned with an expensive, rare, or powerful poison if the system allows it. It serves as a desperation-weapon, or something that can (usually) be brought into weapon-free areas without arousing too much suspicion.

Non magical? You want, of course, the basic adventurer shit:

Two 10 foot poles.
A set of ladder rungs (so that the poles can be combined into one ladder).
Rope/chain.
Whatever slippery/sticky/flammable/acidic goo your setting has to offer. (To spill in the path of whatever's chasing you)
Lockpicks.
Iron-soled shoes. (So you won't get fucked by caltrops)
Any climbing equipment you can get.
Any little vials of poison (Lethal or sedative) that you can find, for slipping into drinks and injecting into necks.
A foolish hireling to carry these things around for you when you're not being sneaky.

Most of these things should be easy enough to procure, but can add a lot of mundane but effective utility to your character - they're classics of the D&D rogue!
