ADVENTURE! I have no idea what this world is. All I know is that I have a young ward that I promised to give her adventure. She's a smart girl, and I wanted her to use her brains as well as brawn. We figure out that it was some witch named Baba Yaga and her feud with the local Baron. Below my concern, we set out and explored the world. Killing anything that comes across our path that gives us the slightest bit of hostility. It was fun times, we eventually became Archmages the both of us. Good for when we're in applicable moods.

Become The Vampire 23

You slowly untangle yourself from Sammy and smile.

“Go check on your dad, alright? I'll be fine. I'm gonna talk to Stephen for a little while, maybe fit this mess together somehow in a way that doesn't end with me making promises I can't keep.”

Sammy nods and pecks you on the lips.

“Alright, I'll... see you in a little while then.”

She turns and walks off, and you take a few moments to use your magic and make sure that your cuts aren't about to reopen. You head off looking for Stephen and find him on the third floor, standing in front of Patrick's bedroom.

“This is mine for the time being. I'll probably have the name sanded off of it... Or just cover it up since this is meant to be temporary.”

He turns to you and chuckles a bit.

“This isn't what I wanted, you know... I was content to support my brother, help him succeed, guide him... But the pack needs someone, as you put it.”

You nod slightly and remove your suit, packing it away.

“I wanted to ask you something about the curse. I know a lot about how it works already, but I don't know how quickly I'll be able to turn this around.”

Stephen waves a hand dismissively.

“That's fine. What they need right now is hope. You've given them that. Patrick will recover, and his shame will be attributed to his curse acting up. You fix him, he beats me, things are restored.”

You shake your head.

“That's not what I mean. It's a huge burden on me. What if I can't live up to it?”

Stephen narrows his eyes a bit.

“You will, eventually. You're part of this pack, after all.”

You bite your tongue to keep back the words you want to say. You didn't come this far just to lose an important group of allies, but it's sorely tempting to try to chew him out or act defiant.

“You're right. I just don't want anyone getting hurt or let down. Try not to build me up too big.”

Stephen smiles, seemingly satisfied.

“That's fine with me. You've done enough of that yourself. Now, if that's all, I have some redecorating to do in the customary way, and then I'm going to check on my brother.”

He turns towards the door, shifting as he steps inside it, and closes the door again. There's a sudden loud crash and a howl, and you step back as Stephen tears Patrick's bedroom apart. At least he isn't marking his territory, you muse. You head back downstairs and find Patrick on the couch, with Sammy on a chair beside him. He's conscious but silent, and Sammy is tending to him the same way she tended to you. Patrick glances at you and hangs his head, and Sammy turns towards you and walks over.

“He's awake, but he's not feeling well at all... I'm... I'm gonna stay with him and keep him company. Birds of a feather, or something...”

You nod a bit and hug her.

“I'll head on back then. See you on Monday?”

Sammy gives you a soft squeeze.

“Alright... See you then. Blake already knows to take you home.”

She lets you go slowly and looks you in the eye, before turning back to her dad and sitting down. You head for the front door and give Blake a wave. He salutes you and grins.

“I guess now I'm a prince or something, huh? And this car is my royal steed?”

You shrug noncommittally, and Blake chuckles.

“Let's get you back then.”

The car ride back is pretty boring, for the most part, and you make your way back towards your room, pondering the events of the day. It's only when you make it back to the dormitory hall that you remember something. Presence has either been alone all day and bored, or stuck with Meliora. And Jennifer just waltzed right in.

Hmm.

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

A bad feeling in the put of my stomach and the lingering pain in my head pulls me from what was supposed to be a more-or-less restful sleep. I was dreaming about going to some fancy wine-tasting event with Charlotte as her date and she was showing me off to all of her rich people friends... but then we got to the actual "wine-tasting" part and everything tasted exactly like how the beer I snuck from my father when I was maybe eight years old did.

Lamenting that I can still taste that bitter grossness, I fish for my glasses and sit up in my bed after putting them on.

"Wha?"

In front of my windowsill, I see someone wearing a long white cape. My first impulse is to yell at Theresa for sneaking in here without asking, but then the figure turns around to face me.

"Ah, pardonnez-moi," he says, tipping his hat to me. "It wasn't my intention to wake you."

That blank white mask.

It is the Year of our lord, 1135.

You are Hugo, squire of Ramla.

The past few days have been intense. You had your arm broken by a Varangian. You've found yourself in league with Raymond of Tripoli in a criminal endeavour, the abduction of the Princess of Antioch, Constance. You've been chased, you've near been drowned, you've been left shaking and exhausted in the back of a little rowboat with a crying girl and a mad man, and now you were expected to hike over the rough interior of Antioch with a shattered arm and a child prisoner who seemed caught between fits of disobedience and weeping.

It was only the knowledge that execution was waiting for you back in Antioch that kept you moving, your footsteps haunted with worry for the friends you had left behind and for the trouble your short sighted but well meaning actions would bring your brother.

You expected you would be proscribed. To save face, your brother would name you an outcast and outlaw. Give you no shelter or support. That would be the smart thing to do. And because you loved your brother and he loved you, you knew he wouldn't do it. Wilhelm would let his ambitions fall apart to keep you safe. You think. That caught you in two ways. You hoped he would shelter you. And you hoped he would not. What were you before his grand ambitions?

Just a brother.

>>
These thoughts were like a nettle in your boot as you marched over the rough, rocky hills of Antioch, heading south through its scrubland wilderness. It wasn't the spares empty land of the deeper Palastine, but it was far from the thick green woods of home. Still, Raymond had grown in these lands and knew the stalking of them from days spent lost in the hunt, with spear and falcon. You followed him and hoped he was guiding you true.

Constance's hand was in your sword hand, slender and frail. The girl struggled along beside you, though you felt too weak to stride or run and moved at a hobble, the little princess still struggled to keep up. Had she ever walked so far in her life? You doubted it. The girl complained of blistered feet at every rest. If you'd had the strength you'd carry her, but you didn't, and Raymond lacked the inclination to do so.

"We should find horses," Raymond said, "I 'spect there should be some Bedu here abouts." They had little coin and about as much coin. You did not know what he might trade for a pair of horses.

You'd stopped upon a bluff looking down upon a little valley. Date palms drifted in the cooling wind of a coming winter. It was a green little valley with a bubbling stream through it. Raymond scarce waited for you as he skidded down to that stream, and you manfully struggled after him with care for the girl you towed.

You squatted by the stream and drank deep the cool water. Raymond filled a pair of leather sacks.

"Mind the girl, I'll fetch us some food," he said, slinking off to harvest the dates. You rested on your haunches, feeling your own blisters. The sun had beaten your bare chest brown. The princess was a match for you, turned near dark as an Arab. She sat in an upset sulk, drawn into herself.

You are ROY POWERS, a Vertical Tank Commander!

It's a nice day, all things considered. The sun was up, and the sky was crystal blue with not single cloud in sight. The surrounding grass and trees were a vibrant green, and you could even hear the chirping of birds in between the rumblings of Clementine's idling engine.

Perfect day for a duel, you suppose.

Just across from you sat Hess' four legged monstrosity, the Tiger heavy VT. The massive quadruped had to be easily twice the size of your own, and that 88mm cannon looked extremely menacing. Good thing they were only filled with paint rounds. You could see Hess herself standing proudly atop her hatch, hands on her hips and her cap fluttering in the wind.

"Vell, as you can see, our available fighting area vill be whatever you eyes can see!" Hess sweeps her arm around in a long, slow, horizontal arc. "Upon the ringing of the clocktower bell, we shall begin!"

Well, Hess certainly seemed to be enthusiastic about this. Meanwhile, you've been keeping a close eye on your surroundings. Right now, you were standing in the middle of a large, open field. No obstacles, meaning you could use Clementine's superior speed here to its full advantage. But that also meant you wouldn't have a lot of cover. To the right was a large, heavily wooded forest. Home turf, and a larger VT like the Tiger would have trouble navigating, but it would be hard to maintain line of sight and your longer 76mm barrel would equally be hampered. Lastly, there was a small gaggle of buildings, old cottages and barns that were no longer under use and that Hess didn't really mind getting potentially demolished. It was a bit of a compromise between the forest and field, with wider, more predictable lanes to move through, but plenty of buildings to provide cover.

Back up on a nearby hill, you could see Bannon and Parker's VT standing like a sentinel, carefully observing the battle. Hess' house staff also were gathered to watch their master battle as well. Honestly, this felt more like a show to you than a battle...

"So where do we head to?" Tarin asks, tugging at your pant leg. "With our speed, we can determine our battlefield."

Ivan’s expression quickly turns stern upon hearing your question. He removes his sunglasses and his hand moves to shade his eyes. “You do me a great disservice by calling me by THAT name.” His words are low and pensive.

You groan in annoyance, yet you can’t help but relate to not wanting to be called something. As ridiculous as it is, you can just think of it as a nickname-

He speaks up again. “Worst of all, Oren.” He to graveness carved in his eyes. “You wrong yourself by not fully recognizing the excellence that is your leader.” He points directly at you now. “Understand and rectify your mistake and you will go far. You’re a member of my squad now, and I am your leader.” His hands gesticulate rapidly, adding even more emphasis to his boisterous words. “With me, through me, and beside me you will rise to heights you could never even imagine, and one day…” He makes his way toward you. “A moniker such as my own will bestow itself upon you, and that name, Oren, is the name that eternity will remember you by.” He stops to let the words sink in. “But only if you call me Captain.” He confidently turns to the clerk behind the glass. “Isn’t that right, Phil?”

The clerk looks entirely too amused to not play along. “That’s absolutely correct, Captain.”

Ivan turns back to you expectantly.

You sigh deeply. The guy is an egotistical jackass, but in a way that you’ve never encountered before. His desire to be called Captain doesn’t seem to be a way to demean you at all, but rather to keep intact some sort of grand fantasy in his head. People are fucking weird here.

You shrug. “Alright then…Captain.”

He smiles widely upon hearing your words and then turns back to the clerk behind the glass. “When will valiant Oren’s frame be combat ready?”

The clerk looks up in thought. “We should be finished by the end of today, so any time tomorrow is fine to pick it up.”

“Perfect.” Ivan announces and then pauses in thought. He shakes his head suddenly and then turns back to you. “Let’s go introduce you to the rest of the brave squad, Oren.” He tries to wrap an arm around your shoulder, but you evade his attempts.

~

The two of you walk out of the Main Research Center with Ivan excitedly detailing the training ground where the two of you are headed.

“The Vice Admiral is very kind to provide with such an ample and well stocked area to train, don’t you think?” Ivan asks as you follow him back to the main paths.

“Yeah, sure sounds like it.” You look around, slightly distracted, observing the new area that you find yourself in.

“He himself is a very generous man.” Ivan says with a strangely calm voice while looking straight ahead. “What do you think, Oren?”

Something about the way he asks unsettles you slightly. You’re looking down at the map, trying to match the path you’re taking, as he asks you. You look up, and the buildings don’t seem to match what you should be seeing. Maybe, you read something wrong, but how could you have lost track of where you are so quickly? You turn to Ivan.

After helping Cyne kill the wolves he introduces himself as Cyne Raffin, personal guard of Heny Brarder, the son of Baron Brarder and looks at you with a questioning look.

Ah! He wants you to introduce yourself.

“I am Samuel.” you flatly respond

Well Sir Samuel if possible I would like to introduce you to my liege. If he learns of your actions of saving his son, he would likely reward you greatly. Please come back with us to Jingzhao, the city my liege presides over. There the baron will show his thanks with a generous reward.

You thought seeing the orc village in person would be interesting. It was for five minutes, but you've now been sitting here in the tall trees watching the orcs mill about their huts, loosely scattered about the clearing, for hours. Frankly, other than the extremely primitive nature of the whole thing it is not much different from certain backwater villages you've traipsed through on the Mainland. The orcs go about their business, which is either carving, wood-working, skinning, washing, cooking, grunting, wrestling, sparring, weaving, or your favorite, fucking. Thankfully they don't do it out in the open, but they definitely do it loudly. Roaring grunts and screams heard easily through their boar-hide and deer-hide tents pierce any possibility for silence in the community.

The women are all very big too. Most are taller than Dolah, which is slightly discomforting. Given armor and some weapons, they may be able fighters too, if not as capable as their male counterparts. That might boost the number of combatants from around 20 to around 40 or 50 if they were desperate enough.

The children play, mostly acting like merely rowdier children than you see on average. They also wrestle and fight, but do it in a much more playful manner. Most of the children are that subdued green color that you see on most of the adult orcs, but some possess that oddly lime-green color that Rowe mentioned yesterday about the visiting orcs. Oddly, none of the adult orcs in this village possess that lime-green coloring to their complexion.

The goblins sit in their slave pens, passively living and expending as little energy as possible. This contrasts heavily with the almost vivacious dedication you see Talker, the male human you are meant to rescue, go about tending to that garden way in the back of the tribe. Whatever they're growing has very large, leafy-green stalks and takes up a lot of space. You don't see more than fifteen or twenty planted in the ground.
>>
The garbage piles seem an odd sight, simply dumped in the middle of camp. They consist of odd assortments of junks, from broken-looking clubs to blunted axes to fruit peels. An elder male orc, which Rowe had pointed out was the tribal shaman, meanders through camp with the help of a walking staff, conversing with other members of the tribe and every once in a while searching gingerly through the trash piles before pulling something out to take back to his smaller hut.

You've been watching the boring every day lives of orcs since ten in the morning. Avoiding the patrols of the lookouts has been surprisingly easy, the orcs most likely confident that anything slipping past them would be running into a quick death. Rowe sits to your left on the same large branch as you. Kyra is perched on the other side of this massive tree, a bit higher up than you two. All of you have settled into a tense silence, breaking it only to eat to maintain your strength as you wait for something to happen.

And then it does. Walking out of the biggest hut in the center most area of the village is the Chieftan. He's gigantic, just as Rowe had said. Armed and armored with some amalgamation of metallic plates. He drags behind him, by the hand, a small, naked, human woman. Her matted, brown hair clings to her face. That's Speaker then. He moves to the central bonfire in the camp and brings her with him. He begins to . . .
>>
Your knuckles go white as the death grip you keep on your shortbow intensifies. Rowe must have noticed the change in your demeanor because she reaches a hand over to squeeze your shoulder.

“That's her fate for the rest of her life if you do something stupid and get yourself killed.” she whispers to you. Yeah, yeah she's right. You take a deep breath. A burning hot rage makes you stupid. Its the cold hate that helps. You look down to calm yourself.

“You never saw something like this before? In the war?” she asks you, looking puzzled.

You shake your head while looking down. “Death and violence, but there weren't many civilians in our theater. Neither side took prisoners.”

“Happened all the time on our side.” You look over to her, concerned. She registers the unasked question and answers. “No. Never me.” She looks back towards where the Chieftan is. “Never me.” To her credit, Speaker doesn't make any noise. Thank The Great Will for that. The chieftain makes plenty, however. “Something I realized, fighting in the Sfar forest.” Rowe begins talking again. “Seeing someone in agony doesn't do much if that's the first time you really see them. You need a proper baseline to see the difference. Relativity.” She makes a gesture with her hand to signify distance. “The greater the difference, the better it is.” Her eyes seem glued to the Chieftain. “I love watching their faces, when they're like this. Absolutely happy.”

Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

Yup, the weird blonde, Sya'ra, ended up joining your crew. You argued that you needed more combat crew, and Sya'ra looked competent enough. She was also Ley'ra's childhood friend, apparently.

Wrapping up at the Cerberus base, you and your crew finally begin to head towards the ominous Dustkeeper base of Unfound to your next daunting mission. Even though it sounds difficult, it seems like you're bringing Comet along. You can't deny her eagerness, but you can't deny your curiosity. Also, Pete had some interesting developments regarding the datachip. It seems like you might have to find a supercomputer somewhere, but you want to focus on busting up some mutants, first.

“Lmicht city doesn't look any better than Frundt,” you say while your ship slowly hovers over some low-rise buildings.

“Looks smaller,” Ivan comments, bringing the ship to turn around a skyscraper. There, only a scant several kilometers away, is what appears to be the Unfound base you've heard so much about. Sitting among the crumbling building is a fort-like structure seemingly completely made of polished metal. Several large landing pads enough to accommodate your frigate sit at the very top, and Ivan instinctively heads towards it.

“I'm gonna guess that's it,” you say before a voice interrupts you over the radio.

“Unidentified vessel, please state your business,” a man with a gritty voice demands. You look to Ivan, receiving a nod from him.

“We're the crew of The Feedbacker,” you answer, looking down to your smart-ring to browse your contracts. There's only two... “We're responding to a contract put out by one named Connel Xuan.”

“Ah, yes. Please land on platform C.” You nod to Ivan, who gyrates his head a bit in response.

Your ship hovers over the tall walls of Unfound which hide its inner contents from the rest of the city. Before long, you feel your ship touch down on what you presume is platform C, and unbuckle yourself from your seat.

“Alright, I guess I'll go meet everyone at the air lock,” you say while standing up, leaving the cockpit after receiving a wave from Ivan. Despite his mask, you think he looked excited.

Not even three full steps out of the cockpit and you find yourself walking beside Sya'ra. How she got there, you aren't sure. You try to not act surprised.

“Hi, Gav,” she greets. You flinch when you realize she's wearing roller blades, skating beside you as you walk.

“Roller blades?”

“Yeah.”

“Alright then,” you brush off, shrugging. “We're gonna meet everyone at the air lock.”

“Alright, Gav.”

“Have you ever been in Unfound?” you ask her.

“No, but I've always wanted to.”

“Curiosity kills the cat, I guess.”

“That's bad luck.”

“My bad,” you chuckle. Along the way, you meet up with Beth and Viktor who regard Sya'ra with curious glances, though the girl seems oblivious to this. Regardless, you all make your way to the air lock where you meet Ley'ra, Troy, Ivan, and Comet.

“Where's Pete?” Beth asks, looking around your gathered circle.

“Said he's gonna stick in the ship, but probably go out on his own a bit later to browse for stuff,” Troy answers, his arms crossed. You imagine it must be uncomfortable to hold your fleshy arm like that with your metal one.

“Fair enough,” you say, stepping forward. You regard each one of your crew member's stares, in particular, Comet. “I'm gonna go find our contact and see what's going up with that. What are the rest of you gonna do in the meantime?”

Troy and Viktor exchange glances. “We're going to go look for a lens for the particle blaster,” Troy says while Viktor nods his head.

“I'm probably just going to look around and socialize a bit, comrade,” Ivan answers, raising his hand as he speaks.

The rest of your crew all look at each other with unknowing expressions.

>Take Comet. You promised to bring her on this mission, so it might be a good to start small.
>Bring Ley'ra. You imagine there's going to be a lot of guns and combat equipment around, so you'd like her expertise.
>Bring Sya'ra, she probably has the most experience with the Dustkeepers on Faraday.
>Beth might be your medic for the mission, so you'd like her to be part of the briefing.
>Ivan looks like he understands the language here. Bring him along.
>Go find Pete and bring him with you. The guy needs to get out of the ship.

Yes, when it happens between player characters without the GM's involvement.
>>
If you don't have cringy or unoriginal players, yes.

So no, it won't ever happen because players are horrible people.

Massive hive fleet consumes nearly everything in the galaxy.

Warp storms and the EoT protect a score of worlds (mostly full of chaos worshippers). The galaxy is drained of all easily obtainable bio-mass and the hive fleets move on.

The Necrons awaken from their slumber en-mass, destroy the final chaos holdouts, and then return to their slumber.

The galaxy is quiet and empty until sentient life evolves again.
>>
>>44405390
would they destroy the Warp this way
>>
>>44405411
Unlikely, it would be incredibly difficult to destroy the warp entirely, near impossible.

The warp would be much calmer without local sentient beings to feed in emotions, so I doubt the cron would bother.

This is a thread created for the discussion of Quest threads, as well as sharing of advice and guidance for aspiring or current QM's. Posters looking for advice on tabletop games should look elsewhere.

Useful links: http://pastebin.com/b5cN2RkK
This link contains numerous writing guides, general advice, and various quest tools and communities.

https://twitter.com/Eisenstern/lists/quest-runner-directory
This is a directory containing the tweets of most current QM's. While a twitter is by no means mandatory, it is a useful tool for both you and your players. If you are a QM, simply post your Twitter here to have it added to the directory. Spamming your quest twitter with non-quest related tweets may result in its removal from the directory.

IRC Channels:
[The Cabal] #QMC @ Rizon.net (slightly related to quests; enjoys worldbuilding, mechanics and politics)
[Hugbox] #ques/tg/enerals @ Rizon.net (barely related to quests; enjoys Larro quests and anime)

> QM question
Have you used any historical allusions in your non-realistic quest?

> Player question
How much of a historian is your QM?

> Bonuns question
Do you know the history of old /qtg/?

Someone post that copypasta about Legend of Korra being a quest.

I want to do a quest in an original setting. I also want to do the 'reincarnated in to fantasy world' thing for the character building.

How do I introduce this without being so cliche as to completely shit the bed?

Actually it's physically impossible for any elf to be ugly; one of the many reasons why half-elves are so outcast in elven communities.
