I'd love to see an artifact ship, carriage, a mount made of magical materials or something like that. I seem to recall Vance mentioning that there will be a ship on the Arms, so that's definitely something I'm looking forwards to see.

Any fellow Gx Tronfags running Emrakul, the Promised End? I initially ran her for kicks but after awhile I realized I really liked her - I've found that she performs admirably against combo and control (both of which were prevalent in my local meta up until a month ago), and is at the very least serviceable as another hard-to-deal-with fatty in other matchups.

Emrakul is a legendary creature that always appears female in the story and wizards always refers to her with female pronouns. Wouldn't you refer to Thalia or other legendary female creature as a her? Also she is my waifu pls no bully.

Back in 3rd Edition and 3.5 we had the Eldritch Knight, Duskblade and Spellsword
Pathfinder gave us the Magus
But for 5e we have the Bladesinger Wizard and Eldritch Knight Fighter, which feel a tad underwhelming thematically.
My question to you /tg/. What is the Perfect Gish for 5th Edition? Or more Importantly what is the Best Gish build that can be pulled off without use of the Unearthed Arcana options?
Paladin is really the best gish at the moment
>>55345838
Assuming you restrict it to Int-based casting specifically, I'd say you're after a handful of levels as Eldritch Knight before multiclassing into Wizard for a bunch of spellslots.
The Cantrips that they introduced in the sword coast adventure guide help a more pure Eldritch Knight out a lot, but overall in 5e there's nothing that's going to blend both sword and spell as perfectly as you want it, aside from Paladin like >>55345878 pointed out.
Honestly I'd wish they kept the playtest version of the Sorcerer which had a Gish aspect to its bloodlines by default.
If you are concerned more about thematics though, I think the Hexblade Warlock got some new options in an Unearthed Arcana recently. Can't speak to whether or not they make the class more functional, but it might be a fun way to play a spellcaster with a sword that's more flavorful at least.
>>55345878
Sure Paladin is a great class, but its by no means the traditional definition of a Gish, in this case being a Fighter / ARCANE Magic User.
That said, 2 levels of Fighter and the rest in Warlock do the job just fine seeing as Warlocks Extra Attack Invocation only requires Character Level 5, and not Warlock Level 5 to learn.
I don't know what I'm doing

I pulled a bolas at the prerelease and ever since then I've been trying to do grixis control. I'm hoping that ixalan slows down the meta. I'm so tired of getting stomped on by mono red
>>55340607
I doubt it. Ixalan's only slow cards are the Dinos, but the set is bringing some serious ramp to deal with it. It'll probably be more on the lines of "casting Dinos on turn 3~4 " than "games going to turns 6~8" speed.
>>55340653
Dealing with a 4/4 Dino is easier than 4 1/1 servos

Step 2. Try to find the right game:
A. Grimm (non-D20), JAGS Wonderland, Don't Fall Asleep, etc.
/tg/ loves to talk about adapting Dark Souls or Bloodborne to an RPG, but I have a serious question on that front: if you were planning a Souls-esq RPG or campaign, how would you want to handle everything that's NOT the combat?
Videogames can just be walking around and combat with little in between, but tabletop RPG players will expect more. Interacting with NPCs and the environment, having skills other than blasting or stabbing. Because there is more than enough inspiration for the combat, and very little for everything else.
How would you approach that?
>>55393052
This may interest you.
>>55393319
Yeah, that relevant. Specifically because it just sort of shrugs and waves its hand and says 'don't worry about it'.
>>55393052
>Because there is more than enough inspiration for the combat, and very little for everything else.
Isn't that kind of the point, at least in DS1? That there's very minimal story up front, but you can seek out NPCs and learn more through interacting with them. Things change and they come and go and change dialogue depending on what decisions you make and there's a lot of implied story.
Why not try to capture that feel? Encourage players to seek out other people and interact with them. Or, they can just kill shit and be very confused later on.
Anybody here played Ryuutama? Whats it about and how is it
it's comfy and vastly incompatible with your average D&D player
I almost played it with /tg/.
Anyway, the premise is that there are baby dragons and they need bedtime stories, so DMPCs go look for PCs that they can follow. See, the people of the world have this cultural thing where, at some point in your life, usually close to 20 or something, you gotta go out and travel a lot. Gives you perspective. So that's just perfect for these DMPCs.
There are four flavors of DMPC and each is geared towards a different kind of story. They have abilities they can use to try and steer the PCs they stalk towards certain things all in the name of having a cooler story.
It's super comfy but requires a very particular kind of player.
>>55392451
Wait, really?
I thought it was a comfy "CAPITALISM, HO!" game
What are some ways to make a kind of raid on an outpost or caravan interesting? There's always the same old surprise group of additional enemies or finding interesting items/targets outside of your original mission, but I feel there's something else that can be added to make the encounter more unique.
Bonus: What about for the opposite, what are some interesting ways to make the party the target of a surprise attack?
Silly question. Ill answer anyway.
from the top of my mind:
*The caravan is goods which the party heard were stolen from the king. Will they take it and sell or return it to the king for favor?
* The wagon has fake stock, and actually is sending some secret letter
*They expected you to attack them, its the only way they could contact the notorious raiders. They have nothing on the caravan, but claim they can make you reach if you escort them to their objective.
is this what you are after?

The Grand Road was built two hundred years ago by a great emperor to provide a direct connection between the two largest metropolises of the continent (one of industry and one of commerce), which previously had been separated by high mountains, dark forests, and a wide, deep river. However, when the emperor died, his empire collapsed, the two generals whose legions had been assigned to continually guard the Road against bandits retreated to the metropolises to set up their own kingdoms, and the Road fell into disrepair. However, the non-Road route between the two metropolises is so long and circuitous that, even when the risk of bandits is factored in, using it often remains more profitable than not using it.
So many people have been killed on the Grand Road that there's a caravan of ghosts, accompanied by a few ascetic monks and nuns, that constantly travels back and forth. It buries all the bodies that the bandits carelessly leave behind, without regard for social hierarchy--everybody is equal in death.

How often do you use homebrew monsters in your game?
>>55389616
Never. I made a homebrew wereshrew for a 3.5 campaign and I have 'Nam flashbacks whenever I even think about trying something like that again.
>>55389616
constantly. more often than not for the current arc of the campaign, since they're fighting mostly humanoids.
>>55389616
Usually I prefer to just alter existing enemies. Take one, swap out a spell or ability from something from somewhere else.
