Quest Start

In a daze, with her pilfered maid costume and your lent manga bagged for carry, Saori Umeki leaves as you and Midori wave her off. Clad in the emergency outfit you assembled for her, and done up with some general maintenance of appearance and hair care the girl herself certainly never does, she returns to an uncertain world whose proper decorum she isn’t entirely versed in.

Why, not more than an hour ago she snuck into your house and lobbed baseless accusations about your involvement in certain events at yourself and the blonde girl beside you. More than that she accused you of salacious activity, which she seemed more than passingly keen on involving herself in. Then she concluded that you are a witch.

Still, after explaining things to her as vaguely as you were able to, you found yourself with a better understanding of the invisible girl who had escaped your notice since elementary school. Even after you witnessed her extreme thirst, probably exacerbated for her long desire for friendship or notice, you see in her certain potential.

In part because many of her accusations weren’t far off. She is closing in upon a number of your secrets, impressive considering the magical means you are possessed of to keep them from coming back to you.

You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student fifteen years old, and you are formerly the third woman to bear the title of the Pretty Guardian of Love & Justice known as Sailor Moon after your mother and elder sister. Now that title belongs to your younger sister, whom you support in secret from the shadows as the mysterious hero named Eclipse.

“She’s going to get herself in trouble,” Midori Mori says from beside you.

~Maybe, if she keeps hounding this investigation,~ you reason, ~but she said she’s focusing on the Red Eyed Beast next, and I’m pretty sure all she’ll find on that topic are dead ends,~

“Not what I meant,” Midori sighs with a wry chuckle, “Mark my words, someone she doesn’t know is going to try to talk to her and only hilarity and tragedy can possibly follow,”

Oh…

~Midori,~ you scold, ~that’s mean,~

What have you done? Both to Umeki-san and the poor soul who takes such initiative...

“Oh no, I was mean,” she rolls her eyes and drawls sarcastically before returning to her agreed upon task of brushing out your hair, “How terrible,”

She is probably right though.

“So, I managed to reschedule your appointment with Akiyama-san to tomorrow morning,” she explains as she places the brush back in your hand and ducks back into your house to assemble her things and finish restoring her appearance as you follow long enough to make sure you have everything you need for the day.

~Thanks for that,~ you groan as yesterday and everything your did catches up with you.

After helping Umeki-san out with her wardrobe crisis, you and Midori also got changed and ready for whatever the remaining half of the day would have in store.

“Any plans for this afternoon?” your Jadeite Knight inquires as she applies a light lipstick for the remaining Thursday ahead.

You've got 6 basic kinds of card -

Land - These are your resources.
Creature - Used to attack the other player or block other creatures
Enchantment - Used to alter the conditions of the game or a creature
Instants - Spells that can be played any time
Sorceries - Stronger spells that can only be played on your turn
Artifacts - Like creatures or enchantments

Other player has 20 life, goal is to get them to 0.

Watch Force's Friday Night Magic or something similar on Youtube. Totalbiscuit did an okay explanation vid.

Anything specific you want to know?
>>

No way I can do it in a paragraph but I'm getting a friend into magic so it would be good to type this up for them.

The game is about using mana to cast spells. There are 5 colours of mana: red, blue, green, black and white. To get mana you need lands. You can have as many basic lands (lands that don't have any special effects) as you want in your deck, each correlates to a colour: swamps are black, mountains are red, islands are blue, forests are green and plains are white. You can play one land per turn. To get mana from the land, you 'tap' it, which is where you turn it sideways 90 degrees. Tapping a basic land gives you one mana of the type it correlates to. You can't tap something when it is already tapped, so most of the time you can only tap land once per turn. To play a card you need to pay its mana cost indicated in the top right. It will show you how much mana you need of each colour, and often there is a number in a grey circle; this represents generic mana, which you can pay with any kind of mana. To play it, first you tap the amount of mana you need and then play the card.
>>
>>44948507
Turn order is as follows:

Draw phase: draw one card

Untap phase: untap all your tapped cards

Upkeep: certain card effects happen here

Main phase 1: you can play any cards you have in hand as long as you have enough mana to cast them and they have legal targets if they are instants or sorceries (covered later)

Combat: You may declare an attack with any number of creatures but must do so all at the same time. When a creature attacks, tap it. Tapped creatures can't attack. After you declare the attacking creatures your opponent decides what creatures of theirs blocks your creatures. Tapped creatures can't block. They deal damage to each others toughness equal to their power. If toughness is 0 or less the creature is destroyed. Unlike Yugioh combat damage does NOT normally carry over, it is dealt only to the creature. If the attack is unblocked the opponent takes damage equal to the unblocked creature's power.

Main Phase 2: as main phase 1

End phase: discard cards from your hand until you have 7 cards (the maximum hand size).

When I described my character, the DM thought of her as "the childhood friend" and basically already decided she was his waifu. When it came to actually playing, there was a paladin to took the role of party face and kinda fell into the "main hero role" in terms of the plot. So I just had fun supporting the paladin, playing comic relief (whether I intended to or not), and sucked up to everyone. Granted, my bard was much more of a good guy than LaFou. She actually was adventuring to support her family.

Welcome one, and I welcome you all to the tale of a world called Thespia.

Here is the odyssey of one that clings to this world with no face of their own! In a place where magic is fundamental to all of creation, all who live wear their lives upon their face, where a fire might wish to be the cooking fire of an inn!

The Faceless overcame the tyrant lord of Bikel, Stephan Grant, son of Mikael Grant. Thus, while wearing the face of the vengeful spirit "The Reaper of Aurel" otherwise known as Dramir, a story in the world of Thespia comes to an end as a hero arrives to deliver the accursed Guisi from their fates of enslavement and labor.

Yet despite this success, a shadow of doubt looms upon the horizon as the Reaper claimed victory from Lord Grant whilst in his Arche's true form, a secret kept by the Guisi at all costs for fear of true persecution at the hands of other Thespians.

Yet the curtain has closed upon that story and a sibling pair grow restless as they hear the whispers of the Guisi elders and their intent to make the Reaper disappear to ensure that there are no loose ends.

"We will not see our work undone."

Now this is the usual delay
>>
With a straight and orderly posture, you walk the halls of the Bikel Manor, lantern-light flickering upon red velvets and woods through glass cages. Your only clearance as Belinda being that your head held is held high, shoulders back, and the expression you carry that is just stern enough to disarm someone with a sudden smile.
You pass by many Danhor guards this way as their eyes chase after your beauty. In short order, you arrive at Mira's door and give her a swift series of knocks.

The girl asks who it is at first, and you repeat the series of knocks.

“It'd be better to explain in person, no?” Belinda's voice says within as the threads of her being intermingle with your own.

“There's going to be some explaining to do either way. She at least knows that I'm an imposter.” You return.

There's a jostle from the lock of the door, and the knob turns with a capricious click. Slowly, the door cracks open and the girl meekly peers out, her horns getting in the way of her discretion and her slit-like eyes truly something a near terror to behold. “Who are you, woman? You dare disturb Mira of the Reaper's band?”

“Oh my goodness, Sol! She is adorable!” Belinda snickers inside as the two of you lean over to come down to her level. “Mira~ It's me.”

“Who?” She raises a shaded eyebrow, staring back with dawning confusion.

You look around to confirm that no one else is present and then lean back in, cupping a hand over your mouth for a whisper, “I changed faces.”
Mira's visible eye goes wide, dumbfounded as she throws open the door, “You're a girl now?!” She yells a little too loudly as you jump in to cover her mouth.

“Shh, shh. Not too loud, remember it's kind of a secret?” She nods calmly within your grasp and you gently let go.
>>
>>44946865
She peers around herself and steps to the side to invite you inside. Shutting the door behind you and locking it, she looks you up and down as she returns back into her normal form. “You're so...” Mira starts, her face slowly turning red, “Pretty...”

You hold a hand tenderly forward, to offer a handshake in greeting, “Belinda.” She takes your hand and you curtsy, “T'is a pleasure to meet you, and you're a flower of the garden yourself my dear.”

Mira looks down bashfully, fumbling a little to return a curtsy. “Th-thank you... Belinda...”

With a smile bright as Sol, the girl's mesmerized when she turns her gaze back to you. “I wanted to ask...” You keep holding her hand, “If you would like to go on an adventure.”

“An adventure?” Mira's face frowns a little unexpectedly, “I don't know, I think I've had enough adventure for a while.”

“No, no, no little flower. You've been caught in a dramatic struggle of hate and revenge.” You say with a slight pout of your lip, “ I'm asking... “A smile returns, “If you want to see the beauty in this world. We'll see cities far and wide, places wild and untamed, and beauty that will stay with you for a thousand lifetimes. What do you say?”

Mira looks away, timid as her usual self, “I... I really don't know. Everything's just started to get better here. And, what about you? You're the lord of this place now right? You're just going to leave?”

>[“I need you Mira. Everything's going to work itself out here, but I need you.”]
>[“What's there to stay here for? You could leave all the bad times behind.”]
>[“There's bigger things going on in Thespia dear, our adventure will be one bigger than life itself.”]
>[“I... understand Mira.” Give the Guisi girl a hug, “I'm going to miss you.”]

Yheruruguhthrhghfhg.

That must have been a wild night: there's fluff all in your nose, you see someone's arm and leg in your periphial vision, and you can feel the presence of two girls at least your age on both the left and right side of you.

What was the last thing you remember?

Oh right, You are Jack Albator. Handsome drinker, heavyweight adventurer, and two-time savior of the worst place in the world.
That's right, isn't it? Yeah, it's close enough for you.

There isn't much to remember here, on the twilight of sleep. You recall a painful experience having to infiltrate Gallete while a massive beast made of claws and teeth foiled your every movement. You remember finally gaining access to Gallete, and then having to hide inside of a prison with a Lass who claimed that the world would end if her father found her in Gallete's dungeons.

Then you remember drinking, a whole lot. Answers seem to come easy to you when they're found at the bottom of a bottle. Fortunately, you carry bottles in places which are almost invisible to the casual observer.

So you cracked open one of those bottles: nope, answer wasn't there. You cracked open the OTHER bottle you had, and the answer was no where to be found there as well. You're not sure how long you went through this cycle. You remember having at least five or six bottles on you in case of a long stay out in the country like you had not too long ago. It's hard to count when thinking about fine brandy.

You DO remember Cody talking to the dragon, and then the dragon just letting you leave. You're sure that can't be correct. Cody was probably fighting the monster in the pitched struggle, and you were just too drunk to remember.

Talking to a dragon; no, worse, BARGAINING with a dragon? Who the hell would do such a suicidal thing?

Anyway, now you're here. There's yellow fluff on one side, green fluff on the other. That's usually how you wake up.

Something is different about this time. Among colored fluff on both sides, there is also some brown-fluff as well.

And Black.

And an.. extra voice that you can hear breathing?

Gently, you sit up. Beside you is a number of unexpected guests who you can't remember being invited last night.

One of which is the black-haired little girl which you vaguely remember from yesterday. Not sure where Cody picked her up, but Catland being Catland you can guess it's going to result in you pounding some faces in later.
Another being Annetta, Yuuki's princess. Oh, and speaking of Yuuki's princess; there's Yuuki at the far end.

Yuuki's eyes are open, she's clutching that spear-like thing of hers. You're not sure she's slept all night.

"Yer shift's over." You whisper at her.
"Ergh." Is all she emits in response.

"What ye doin' here?"
"Anna and I agreed that the castle wasn't a safe place to stay. So we came over here at midnight."
"Why'ye say that?"

"There was an.. I'll explain later." Yuuki shifts in her flowery dress. It's almost like she's being held to the floor. "I've been on guard for hours and would really like to sleep."

"Aye, go do it. Don't need my permission."
"I'd love to but-" Yuuki hesitates. "I can't get up."

You try to get up, and you can't either.

There seems to be a large mass of.. snake.. binding everyone together like a big rope. She tugs and pulls into what you can only describe as a group hug.

At the other end, with a silly smile on her face, is Madeleine. Her long body successfully covering everyone like a blanket.

>"Madeleine, w-wake up."
>Try to sneak out from snek
>"So, Yuuki, want to explain what happened?"
>"We might be here a while."
>Go back to sleep, you aren't in the mood.
>Other?

This comic has been declining for years. Even with the recent reboot where Burlew promised less text. Despite that change he pretty much instantly went back to the walls of text about a Scandinavian pantheon we don't give a fuck about, with loads of self-reference that he probably giggles and masturbates too, even though he's the only one who finds it funny.

It's been a long time since OOTS has been competently written; probably around the time of Roy's death. Even before that, the cuts to Xykon and the gloom creature grew boring fast. No one gives a fuck about Redcloak and the entire setting is far too confusing and complicated for the kind of low-effort fun a webcomic is supposed to be.

You have literary-tier complexity in a comic that has about as much literary merit as a shit in a portapotty at a state fair, combined with slow updates because Burlew hurt his hand two years ago and hasn't stopped milking it since. I bet he had a Kickstarter to fund his broken hand. God knows he's had plenty of others for this webcomic that should have concluded 5 years ago.

That happy voice echo'd in your mind as you rose on this rusty platform, up this long, dark tunnel. The same track had been playing for a good ten minutes now.

Just a while ago, you were on the street, and the next you knew, you awoke here, going up on this elevator. Alone.

The track suddenly stopped.

"Hello... Human Male." the voice then said. It was the same guy as in the recording. "I'm Noah! We are going to arrive soon to my Park. It's a great place, trust me - I made sure to include every ecosystem. It has everything! Plants, wildlife, oh... Just wait until you see it!"

Who are we?
>Martin Davids: Athletic Guy. Excels at sports and physical prowess, but lacks in academics and empathy.
>James Iglesias: Faithful Med. Knows some medicine, and has moderate physical training. Very religious.
>Walter Holm: Boy scout. Expert at survival skills. However, he is very short and has a hard time socializing.
>Jake Clark: Lanky NEET. Great breadth (but no depth) of knowledge. No physical training whatsoever. Knows how to use some (rather lame) spells.

The one who ducks the least. Also, spells? Can we not?

Ps. The premise sounds cool as shit.

So I'm thinking of running a game where the players are tiny. Borrowers style; maybe 2 inches tall.

I've got a setting for it, a reason they exist, differences set up between them and humans; but I'm still thinking about what being that small means. The physics of it are a particular sticking point in my mind. Theoretically, something that is that small should be able to fall a great distance and not be injured because of air resistance; like how you can drop an ant from several feet in the air and not hurt it. They would more than likely be substantially stronger than humans too, at least comparatively in terms of how much of their own body weight they could lift.

The difficulty as I see it comes in striking a balance between familiar and interestingly different. For instance, they should be able to climb and skitter about much easier than a human; which would enable them to get around and explore more easily. But should falling still injure them in a "Human" kind of way? Ie if they fall a few body lengths should it be theoretically fatal?

And what would a society of intelligent beings that small be like? Would farming be reasonable? Forging metal? Or would it be an unreasonable expenditure of time and effort to try and grow food when you can easily just gather it in massive quantities? Or to try to make your own things when you can just take them?

Would beings that small float on water like we do or would they, assuming they laid flat, not even break the surface?

I don't particularly need answers to any of these specific questions, I'm just looking to have a discussion about what it would be like to be 2 inches tall and the various things you'd have to consider when you were said height.

One of the things I remember from the Ghibli Borrowers movie was that water behaved differently for them. It sort of beaded up in big drops on them and they could swat it off.

I wonder how true that would be.

Ghibli movies are usually comfy as fuck, but Arietty was like maximum overcomfy, holy shit

Except for that time when the boy says "Welp I guess your race is doomed! You're a dying breed!"

Out of fucking nowhere this kid channels hard core Nihilism and then is confused why arietty is kinda pissed at him.
