What do people actually like about the standard Elf/Dwarf/Human/Orc/Etc line-up? I've searched for answers, but have yet to find anything tangible in terms of what people feel they get out of it. Is it just familiarity, or is there some other advantage that I can't/don't grasp?

We can fuck halflings and its perfectly legal.
>>
>>44985671
It's pretty much familiarity. Less time needs to be spent explaining what the races are, so the game can move on to what they do.

Though I usually abandon the standard set in homebrews and humans, there's nothing bad about it.
>>
>>44985671
Yes it is advantage. Different races, different stats. And that's that. Even if you're not a minmaxer, you're probably choose a race based on the stats they give or the advantages and benefits they get implied or not.
it's like every white wolf game. 90% of players choose their clan/tribe/whateverthefucktheyarecalled based on the powers they'll get and advantages that will be provided.
Roleplay be damned.

You're a Cave Hydra, big and mighty, and after an encounter with particularly oversized Grick, you found yourself in need to recuperate your wounds, which healed within expectations. And after munching down your preserved Bear, you decided to go on a patrol around the Glowing Forest and then around the Dwarven Village.

The forest was clear, as clear as a Forest can be. None tried to question your authority over your territory, save for a single Cave Bear, but you took the threat of stepping over your lawn with a grain of salt. They're very cocky and more often than not, they just search a fight, which you aren't looking for at the moment.

The Dwarven Nest however, is a different manner all together and requires a bit of more precise handling. You've already shown yourself there and the dwarves are most likely confused by your doings, you doubt that they get to see a towering Hydra returning something to them all that often.

>Be straightforward, show yourself in front and parade around just outside the actual village. You're the area boss after all.
>Be cheeky, get closer and hide as much as you can, see how they live perhaps.

When it comes to post-apocalypse campaigns, how important do you find the issue of religion?

Recently within my group, one of the other players wanted to run a game to test out his game mastery skills. After three sessions, we as a group started discussing the pros and cons of his style, which led to us discovering he doesn't care for religion and prefers to avoid talking about it.
This came up because it was asked how he intended to develop a cult he mentioned once.

While I respect his decision to exclude religion from his games, the issue did make me wonder in general how people prefer to handle, or not handle, such a massive part of human nature.

So when you GM do you gloss over religion in your worlds or does it shape those worlds, or something in between?

>When it comes to post-apocalypse campaigns, how important do you find the issue of religion?
Depends on the setting.
>>

>While I respect his decision to exclude religion from his games...

Lolwhat? Excluding religion from fiction, why? I get that it's not something that people might be super into but it's a pretty big theme to just throw out.
Also, post-apocalyptic settings are pretty perfect breeding grounds for strange cults and faiths. History teaches us what happens when everything gets wrecked and someone shows up and says he's pals with god.

It's part of world building so it shapes the world like:

This is...

“Familiar” is the word that first springs to mind, the word you want to use before any other. Yet, you know it's not exactly the right word to use. Even so, you know that you've seen this macabre statue before, with its leering face and monstrous body. Actually, there is one bit of the statue that you've definitely seen before, in museum pieces and biology textbooks – the twisted human skull it wears as a face. The rest of it - the silhouette of a charging bull, the cloven hooves for feet and the crude metal jewellery draped across its muscular body – are all... less familiar.

Still, it is without fear that you reach out and touch the looming edifice, letting your small palm rest upon the rough surface of the skull. Not stone at all, you realise as a few flakes crack off and drift away, but a thick layer of ancient dust and grime. Barely listening to the voices murmuring in the background, you begin to wipe away the filth. The leathery flesh beneath, blending seamlessly into bone, is... warm.

Dust stirs as a breath – the first in a very long time – slowly rattles the air around you.

You wouldn't say you're afraid exactly, but there's no way to deny that you take a hesitant step backwards as the ancient creature before you stirs. There's no particular malice in its movements – this is no beast surging from slumber to rage in an instant – but even a glancing blow from those meaty fists would be enough to put you down for a long time. Even if it was just stretching, testing the limits of its body...

A heavy rush of air, thick with the scent of beasts and dark with greasy dust, escapes the beast as it snorts. Within the black reaches of the skull's hollow eye sockets, faint lights first flicker and then glow with a steady intelligence. That great head rolls back and forth as the waking demon scans the surroundings, before those burning lights return to you – and there they stay, narrowing into gleaming points.

“What cruel illusion is this?” the beast groans, its voice dragged from some deep and infinitely hollow pit, “Is this how you choose to torment me, appearing in the guise of my dearest treasure?”

Dearest treasure, you murmur as his hand reaches down to your face, you don't understand.

“No...” the demon murmurs, stopping just short of brushing his fingers against your face, “You're no illusion, but you're not HER either. You're not my daughter.”

Perhaps you're slow on the uptake, but the pieces are slowly falling into place. Buried here, on sanctified ground, is the child of spite – your other self. That, at least, is what the Archangels told you. But if that's true, then the beast looming over you is...

Marco?

There is no easy way to describe the demon's reaction as you whisper the name. He seems to shudder and freeze in the same instant, before slowly turning his face back to you. “Mia,” he rumbles, your name echoing out.

>I'm Mia. I'm your daughter

Welp, I'm just going in as a warrior, a mercenary a bit like Geralt Of Rivia. Not really original, I know, but I'm pretty sure I'll be a lot more free to do what quest I want, when I want etc.
I'm with an organised clan too. Is there any cool forum/place for LARP? The community looks a bit scattered.
>>
>>44984989
First of all, the larpthreads on /cgl/, though slower, are generally more helpful. The most important things people'll need to know to give advice are genre (high fantasy, low fantasy, sci-fi, modern, etc) and location (-in general- American larps have more fighting and less roleplaying, Scandinavian larps are have loads of roleplaying and very little fighting, and Central European larps sit somewhere in the middle).

As some more personal advice: when playing a warrior-type, ESPECIALLY one based on a well-known character, think long and hard on what you want the character's personality and background to be like. If you go in as faceless-rank-and-file-dude-#37, you won't get as much roleplay as when you play Sam Mason, the cheerful boy who went out to see the world to follow in his older brother's footsteps.

When making a character's background, try to create a humble story that avoids the most common tropes. Basically, don't do any of the following:
- Play a character whose parents are both dead
- Play a noble
- Play a lost noble
- Play a prophesied hero of ...
- Play the last survivor of ...
And similar things. All of these CAN work in a background story, but I'd avoid them when starting out.

Cont.

One hundred years have passed since the unification of the Yorkmen with the Tribe of Lancaster. Sharing in the knowledge of their peoples, the Clans of the Tribal Confederation of Brigantia have gained much from joining. The Lancastermen shared their knowledge of Herd Animals and Leather. The Yorkmen introduced Domesticated Dogs, Spirituality and their discovery of shiny minerals in the hills to the east. Together, as Brigantians, in just a century, they discovered the secrets of working Bronze from Copper and Tin, and developed a Calender, a near-neccesity in coordinating multiple villages and clans.
The Picts, an offshoot of the Brigantian Tribes prior to unification have developed a unique culture to the north. Rumor has it that many Pict villages have been founded even further north, where they attempt to bully struggling communities into tribute. Brigantian relations with the Picts are frosty at best, and outright hostile at worst.

>An enterprising Clan of the Brigantia has invented a device, what they call a "wheel," that can be moved about the ground by rolling. Shortly there after, ox-drawn carts for hauling lumber, ore and other resources become common, vastly increasing yield. To accomadate these carts, a road is built between Yorkshire and Lancaster.

What if Sanguinius had been made Warmaster, /tg/? How would the other Primarchs have responded to this choice? Would he have been a competent leader? Would Chaos have managed to corrupt him like they did Horus? If so, how successful would a Sanguinian Heresy have been compared to the Horus Heresy?

He would have become the living avatar of Khorne Made Flesh and had at least some limited ability to see the future.

He was also MAX CHARISMA. He could have taken at least as many, if not more, of the primarchs with him.

The Emperor would have been a fine paste on the floor of the Imperial Palace.

Alternatively, Chaos would never have gotten a foothold in the Warmaster because his daddy issues weren't as severe as Horus' and he'd have dealt with them in a more constructive manner. In turn Horus would respect him too much to turn traitor in the first place.

I have this problem less than I just get demotivated from a project the longer I don't work on it. And it's not like you can force that shit. I will stare at my work and just legitimately not want to do it.
>>

I leave the project be for a few days. I might play some vidya (presently the newest Tales or Darkest Dungeon) or read a book or watch some animu or movies or read mango. Basically get away from the design frame of mind.

I rarely ever STOP designing unless work gets in the way, I just end up designing something. This can be severely detrimental to actually finishing a project mind you, as I can sometimes take me a while to get back to the first project, and by then I have to tear out a lot of dead weight to get back to the good bits

You exist between moments, now.

-the cising sparks of EXEC_CONSUME-

-the crazed flicker of the Nihl Sphere as it drinks in CALCITE ARROW's death, in a swirl of violet motes-

-the abstract patterns of gore gushing from the stumps of Rook's severed arms, his head flexing and twisting in shrieking pain as he thrashes on the deck-

The Hektonhire, roaring and hissing and spitting its ember rage as it comes for you. The thing that was once Rust Kaiser is a behemoth, a monstrosity - Lit by the ghastly strobelight inferno that consumes the Thief (Something dark, shapeless, thrashing in the heart of consuming flame) - vast limbs ripping up the ground underfoot as it surges towards you with ponderous unstoppability.

Impaled by a dozen spikes of burning orange light - like swords, like stakes - it moves with singular purpose. Huge, cloven hooves of bleached bone - shod with pitted iron that seems moulded to feet - smash down, leaving skittering craters in their wake. Great claws with too many joints, like the lashing branches of winter trees, close and open, open and close, ending in black talons. Those backward-jointed legs are brutally muscled, tatters of armor flaking away, great curving horns lowered for the charge-

When Rust Kaiser's roar hits you, Haze falls to his hands and knees - His eyeslits flickering green, green, yellow at the world-splitting sound.

"Nnnngh-"

It is like the laughter of an earthquake; made worse for how it *is* laughter, rumbling laughter without sanity or end, an all-consuming fury centered solely upon you.

With every heartbeat, he *grows*. It is as if Rust Kaiser's blistered, cancerous soul has burst the confines of what is possible, surging forward in a storm of grinding footsteps and lashing claws, veins stretched and splayed over pulsing slabs of corded grey muscle, wrapped in strands around arms become thick and branching, in thin wiry tendrils, in vast splaying roots of flesh, in circular pods with a hundreds fingers waving in some unknowable pattern-

Pupils like black holes. Scales, and crags, and cliffs of skin. Decaying organs pulsing beneath translucent pieces of exoskeleton or chitin, pulsing and throbbing - On and on. Forever.

Reality itself is losing its grip. The world is changing right in front of you, permitting this monstrosity, this un-truth.

Daegal - The Condemner's blade fizzing as burning petals flutter around him in a whirling storm - puts what you cannot into words.

"Oh fuck," he says.

As your talons rip free of Calcite's helm - His form already collapsed, turning grey as the animation leaves it, only a dim flicker of awareness on the Orthrus Crest - you face down your foe. Rust Kaiser is vast, looming above you, towering. Still growing, *expanding*, a torrent vile of flesh pushing outwards, armoring itself in a thickening skein. Ropey veins are threading their way through it, blisters of fat and muscles pushing up through the surface-
