The snowfall has gotten worse again. In the morning when the tribe first steps out onto the tundra the ground is already covered in a thick sheet of snow. Fortunately the lumber brought in keeps the cave mostly warm. Still the cold clings to any who venture out, the lack of warm clothes painfully apparent.
Not far to the south the Silent Village toils away with the same vigor as always. The Giants sent there to guard them find a sizable home set up for them. A pair of soft, straw beds and thick woven blankets, along with a large stone firepit keeping them warm against the nights chill. However no clothes are offered and when asked about it the answer is always the same. “The agreement was protection for provisions, things such as clothing and armaments are for you to provide until the Long Dark has passed.” Number 5, the blue being that speaks for the village can be seen moving about the humans at all hours of the day, aloof and apart from the mute humans around him.
Back at the cave the mammoths are acting up more and more, the bull is more ornery than before. Chuffing and even shoving away any who approach the sows. It takes some work but finally one of the tribesmen manages to sneak close and finds a pleasant surprise. One of the sows is with child! The news is rather exciting to the Tribe.
Welcome back To Giants On Ice!
The snow is not melting.

What kind of relations do Russia, Mongolia, and China share with each other?
I'm typing up a post-apocalypse setting right now and I'm wondering who would be allies with who if they ever decided to invade each other over land and resources.
Mongolia and eastern russia might fare pretty well in the post apocalypse.
Mostly because nobody cares enough about them to be a direct nuclear target.

Russia fucking hates China, and China hates Russia.
Mongolia is seen largely as a buffer between Russia and China by the Russians, and is still viewed as being a part of China by the Chinese.

I don't think they hate each other but they both have governments that don't take shit from anyone and are very serious about pursuing their national interests

What is the reasoning behind all members of a race being able to handle a particular weapon, that is unique to their culture?
Do Human cultures ever have a special weapon like that, in setting or in real life? Aside from hunter-gatherer societies using primitive weapons, it's usually an elite warrior class that is expected to wield specialised weapons with complex technique. Yet the point of the racial weapon proficiency is that they aren't simple weapons that are easy to pick up.

Pistol for American.
And Muslim have the thing with Explosives.
Spears.
First weapon devised by man, and all humans are proficient with them.

Having a particular weapon maybe just know how to wield weapons in general

It is a delicate dance when you play Eldrazi. At every single moment you must constantly be calculating the optimum use of your spells. You are not limited by something ancient like mana. You are limited by your own intelligence and cleverness.
Thought-Knot Seer means you have to know every other deck's spells and game plan. It's all or nothing. Eldrazi players have to be better at the game than other people.
Bad control and no late game. A reward Wizards put into the game for experienced players.

Yo, quick question: do Initiative enhanhancements carry over to the Matrix? AS in, reaction boostets giving the boni to REA and the additional dice? Or is it only in AR?

Meant to say: do reaction enhancements carry on over, particularly while in cold/hotSIM, or only on AR, if at all?

>Department of Esoterica
After walking about maybe half of the Potion College’s quadrangle you find a building that catches your eye. Just what does the ‘Department of Esoterica’ deal in? Are they people with strange masteries like yourself? If Master Tallen is someone Hiss considers useful then he very well might be in here. Of course he could also in any number of the other buildings but you haven’t asked for directions yet and you’re not going to start now.
You push open the wooden double doors, finding them unlocked. That makes sense you suppose, they’re holding classes in here right now. Several students pass you by without giving you a second glance as you wander through the corridors doing your best not to look lost.

First Jump! Into the Pokeverse!
Region: Kalos (Rolled)
Age: 12 (Rolled)
Gender: Male (Natural)
Background: Hermit [50 CP]
Starting Pokemon: Eevee + Egg Move (Covet) [50 CP]
Skills: [600 CP]
- Survival Training, Pokeglot, Champ In the Making
Gear: [400 CP]
- HM Collection, 50K Pokedollars, Headsets, Laptop, Bicycle, Medical Kit
Flaws: [+100 CP]
- Swarmed
Spawned in the depths of Santalune Forest with an Eevee. Traveled around, gathering up specific Pokemon that I already know and love as my favorite team. Ability to talk to Pokemon and survive outdoors helps immensely until I can get my fear of people under control. Very capable trainer and quickly improves and befriends each Pokemon I add to my team. Refuses to catch them the traditional way. Instead talks to and convinces Pokemon to join me. Have to make changes to what I initially want as a team when things don't go as planned or when Pokemon turn out to be surprisingly more hostile than intended.
The Zubat attacks are initially terrifying and represent a significant drain on my resources. But they serve as excellent training for new tactics and moves and allow my Pokemon to get used to operating as a team. After months of traveling around, I would end up heading back to Santalune City and starting to work my way through the Gyms. Not with any intention of beating Champion's Road, but because by then I would be interested to see if I could.
Team
= Jolteon – Volt Absorb: Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Agility, Light Screen
= Gallade – Steadfast: Leaf Blade, Night Slash, Psycho Cut, Brick Break
= Gardevoi – Trace: Psychic, Energy Ball, Future Sight, Heal Pulse
= Mawile – Hyper Cutter: Flamethrower, Crunch, Rock Slide, Strength
= Lucario – Inner Focus: Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Flash Cannon, Poison Jab
[1/2]
[2/2]
Despite not having a sixth, I would manage to do well against most of the Gym Leaders. Sometimes it has more to do with the intensive training than any type advantage. The sixth spot would never be filled on a permanent basis. It would be left open for temporary companions, Pokemon met along the way who didn't want to stay with the group forever for one reason or another.
I would take to traveling the world, seeing all of it I could in my ten years. I would not make friends in every city, but those few I did would keep in touch no matter how far I traveled. Eventually I would have visited every region except Orre and have gained a badge at each gym. I would never try to become beat any region's champion. I wouldn't want the kind of attention that would garner me and besides, then I'd have to stick around and defend my title.
The last few years of my time would be spent running as a Pokemon Breeder running a Daycare somewhere. Probably Hoenn. I would not get involved in shutting down the various bad guy teams unless I was absolutely forced to. Even then, I wouldn't care for getting any credit for my actions.
Your Name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and you’re having a conversation with another Oni. More specifically you and Trish are having a conversation with Hotaka Kondo, some sort of scrap metal artist who’s also an Oni (His beard is awesome).
You sought him out after your Grandfather told you where he learned about your Oni nature from. Kondo just dropped a bombshell into the conversation, something strong enough could potentially possess a human magic user and use them to somehow pervert your bond. Among the things strong enough, demons are apparently on the list. You’re not dumb, you’ve heard of demons, but there’s controversy on what demons actually are. Most supernatural and fantastical beings are common knowledge, even if explicit information about them is widely debated. This new information is making your head spin a bit, well, it’s probably the sake making your head spin. It’s strong even for you.

"Thats... a lot of people." You mutter quietly to Liama who is still counting quietly to herself.
"96 unique visible so far, and rising." She reponds, "I think they've got a barracks off on the other side."
Keel and his men slowly edge forward, rifles trained on any movement. Looking through the cavern you don't really see much activity on your side. A couple more of these tunnels, but nothing like the the other side.
"This has to be their main camp." Keel says, "No idea how they are slipping through with that monster of a ship though."
You look over to the Captain. "What's the plan?"
"You get yourself back through the portal and close it. We do what we can here."
"Thats friggin' suicide." Liama hisses.
"They've been using blood rites, right? They have to be getting it from somewhere." Keel says firmly. "We find that, stop it if possible. Make for the cove exit. Make note of the location, drag the reserves in here and take them to the anvil"
You look over to McCain, who's been quiet the entire time. "Any thoughts?" You ask, tapping him on the shoulder with your tail.
"Keel's gonna get himself killed. For a good reason but a damn fool one." your foreman says, earning him the ire of the Nitor Captain.
"And you would run?" Captain Keel snaps back.
>>45381926
"No, I'd just not commit more than a dozen men to gathering a portion of the relevant scouting that needs to be done. Two to four at most, rest would make sure the way to the exit stays clear, quietly. Not like we care if these bastards live."
"I'm really not comfortable with falling back here either." Liama says, fiddling with her rifle.

"We have six rows rows of three men with rifles, plus Liama, McCain and me, there is no way to get around us other than the portal.
I shoot a fireball(or three) into the ship, the ship will burn and (hopefully) be ruined. That will distract many of them. Especially the mages who will probably be busy killing the flames. we set up two lines of three riflemen at the base of our tunnel and shoot them as they try to come down. The rest would wait behind those two lines waiting ti fire after reloading. Once a man fires, he retreats back to be replaced by someone who'd loaded while waiting. Those who come after us would need to follow us all the way back down. They have their bayonets mounted. The blood of those that die in each volley will moisten the ground further and cause it to be unbearably slippery. The phoenix men will slip if they try to come at us. They slide into our fire and bayonets. Their bodies will be as a barrier too keep incoming fire off of us.
The only problem I can think of is their mages causing a cave in on us.
At least, that's what I WANT to do. Thoughts?"
Why is getting A LOT of players to actually roleplay during a role-playing game like pulling teeth?
Because your skill at GMing comparable to your skill in dentistry
You'll realize this someday:
99.9% of players are shit people who are miserable to be around and ruin everything.
They can never, and will never, care about your game as much as you do, and they just want to be catered to while they act bored and uninterested.

Because playing pretend is really embarrassing for an adult.
I know a ton of you guys are into trying to design your own games, and I'm doing the same. I've heard of card games legally owning the rights to certain concepts used in them, like MTG starting with 20 life, or tapping cards to symbolize paying a cost. Is there any list or database of similar concepts that can't be used in other games anymore due to ownership?
>>45381141
You can trademark terms, but you can't actually trademark game concepts. MTG has a trademark on 'Tap', but you can't trademark the concept of turning a card to do something, which is why there's a ton of other card games that use the same mechanics, but their own terms for it.
>>45381216
Ok, but is there an easy way to find out if any other terms have been used in that way? It would be very difficult to manually search for patents for each term used in a game.
>>45381337
I'm not sure. I know that there are sites dedicated to TCG's that might have something like that, and the /gdg/ thread is a good place to ask, someone there might know.

“Your friend is fine,” says the 2-1B medical droid as he oversees Kuvasz on his bed. You stand over his bed with Vikker, crossing your arms. Kuvasz lies there, barely awake, but looking better than last night at least. A bacta patch crosses over his chest where the lightsaber hit him. If he hadn’t been wearing that armor, you’d probably be only looking at half of a Mandalorian right now. “There are extensive burns across his chest, but they should heal with some bed rest and regular application of bacta. Admiral Reike has informed the medical staff to keep you supplied. I must admit, I have not ever had a subject with this much external scarring so it was a very interesting experience.”
“Hey, I’m full of surprises,” mutters Kuvasz.
Vikker pats Kuvasz on the arm. “Feeling better at least, old man?”
“Where’s that nurse?” asks Kuvasz. The 2-1B tilts his head. “There was a nurse here with a very fine rear, I think Rhys and Vikker’d get a kick out of it.” You look at the 2-1B.
“Painkillers,” says the 2-1B. Ah. That explains it. “Should wear off within the hour.” Kuvasz groans, trying to sit up. The 2-1B gently pushes him back into bed. “In the meantime, he will be ready to join you soon.”
“Thanks, Doc.” You nod. You and Vikker turn around and start walking out of the medbay. “You know, Vik, we got lucky. Real lucky.”
“Wouldn’t have happened if you had left the girl back at the ship,” he says. You roll your eyes. If he didn’t want that, he should have said something. The door out of the medbay opens, and the two of you start heading down the hallway. Technicians and engineers were busy at work removing panels and checking electrical wires, apparently diagnostics after the battle that you had missed. Makes you wonder if Eudora is okay. “Listen, Rhys. I think we need to have a serious talk.”

You sigh, then stop Vikker. “Alright, talk.”
“That girl is going to get us killed,” says Vikker. “I mean, you-know-what is one thing. But come on, you can’t expect her to just hide it.” He holds up a finger, coming up with a idea. “I say we dump her somewhere isolated. Maybe like Lothal or Jakku or something. Then we go about, find that Fleet, we go back to treasure hunting. In fact, forget all this business with Admiral Reike and the Empire. We just go back to doing what we did.”
“Vik, you were the one that got me back working for the Empire again.”
He grunts. “And I have regretted that every day since. I need to stop looking at the easy credits. Look, I’m not forcing you to do this. Hell, I owe you my life, Rhys. You saved me.” He pats you on the chest. “Let me save you for once. I’ll let you think about it, alright?”
You nod, continuing to walk with him back to the ship. “Alright.”

Cutting Misri out? Admittedly, you’ve only known her for at most several months in this venture. Not to mention that she’s been shirking her responsibility lately. What would Kuvasz think though? Hell, what would the droids think? Not that they really have a say in the matter, but they all love her. You can’t have all of your droids deserting on you.
The two of you go down the lift into the hangar where all the big shuttles are kept. Reike’s personal Lambda, Sentinel Landers, and finally your own Lion’s Share. It’s places like this that make you feel at home, really. The black reflective floors, the illumination, the feeling of… you’re not sure what the feeling is but it’s there. Lev meets you at the boarding ramp. “Sir.”
“Lev.” You’re about to pass him up. Vikker does, leaving you behind. You need to check on Misri, see if she’s fixed up anything.
“Sir.” He catches your sleeve, stopping you. He holds up a holopad, which blinks with an incoming message. And not just any holopad. Eudora’s holopad. She’s calling you. “She is calling you.”
