Long story short, DM will only do a Dark Sun campaign if we do it in D&D 4th ed.

I need your help, /TG/.
I've looked over the mechanics and this edition does -not- look enjoyable to me. Not in the slightest. Sword Mage looks kind of alright but that's it.
Post fun times you've had with 4e. Stories, characters, builds, tricks, encounters, anything. Anything.

I just want to play a fucking bug.

I played a half-elf barbarian who specialized in throwing his enemies halfway across the room and knocking them on their ass.

This was pretty effective, since the setting was a chain of floating islands.

Me and the fighter became tag team champions of a local fighting ring and were allowed to develop a custom cooperative maneuver as a reward.

Oh, yeah, and then we deliberately escalated a war between the two largest nations in the setting in hopes they'd wipe each other out and not devastate the tiny nations in-between as had been their MO up to that point.

My half-elf's motivation for this? He wanted to kick off Ragnarok in order to please his viking gods and earn the exalted place in heaven he'd need to be able to be reunited with his wife in eternity, a human shamaness he knew he'd outlive.

I engineered the destruction of an economic strongpoint in the nominal name of denying it to both nations by unleashing acid-breathing dragons on it.

Ostensibly, I escalated a conflict and killed hundreds in the interest of limiting the strategic value of the island to both sides, forcing them to divert their forces elsewhere.

In truth, I did it for love.

I have only ever been in two long standing campaigns. This is the story of my proudest moment.

At the time, I was going through a bit of a phase of existential dread, and had the void of death on the brain. What sort of character should come to life but a warforged, a race without an afterlife in a setting where everyone else was assured of theirs? He was a paladin, broken free of the lord of blades. I named him Cyrus Gold, after the undying Solomon Grundy, and a symbol of his God, Pelor.
Now see, I love playing tanks. It feels so good to get swung at by an enemy and laugh in the face of danger. But I also enjoy playing counter to my role. So sometimes I would rush in recklessly, as was my job. But sometimes I liked to play against that, and emphasize the compassionate part of being a paladin. What can be solved peacefully? Why do we fight? And so on.

Eventually the campaign had gotten to a point where we had begun picking up the first hints of the plot. There were large engraved dragon scales, artifacts of an old goddess which we had been picking up. And eventually we came to the end of a dungeon. Our enemies were several. Firstly, there were three gnolls. Beyond them, a goblin held on a leash by a Tiefling. And next to him, a necromancer on an undead steed.

Clearly, as a son of Pelor, it's my job to rush in, yell about good overcoming evil, and smash my way through the ranks until I could smite and cleave, right?
>>
Well, that's be boring, and I had a WIS score high enough, and a background relevant enough to warrant some solid planning. I can see that the necromancer' horse has two of those scales mounted to the sides. So I ask the necromancer if the ones that we found belonged to him, and begin to approach to return them. Everybody can clearly tell that I'm setting up a trap. So he sends the gnolls three to retrieve them for him.
"Describe the gnolls to me."
They're clearly unhealthy, and seem to be half-starved to death. Mother-like, I express my astonishment. I am obviously unable to offer food of my own, but instead offer some of my companion's rations. With solid rolls from me and my teammates, the gnolls abandon their objective to dig in.

The subordinate goblin is pissed. He's clearly low-ranking, but those gnolls were likely his slaves, or at least he got to feel superior to them. He moves to attack me.
1, fumbles, eats dirt.
"Are you okay? Do you need healing?" I say. When turned down, I turn my attention to the Tiefling. Motherly once more, I storm to the Tiefling.

It's my turn in our group's DM cycle, and thus far the requests are action sci-fi, bonus points for mecha and remaining upbeat (IE: no AdEva).

Finally settled on a SRW-style pastiche of the mecha genre, starting out with man-sized power armor and really low-end grunt things (think missile trucks or at best an Anf) and eventually finding their way up to good old 70's style planet smashers. Most of the mechs are to be pre-built and they just come across them and use them, maybe give them basic equipment swaps. Player custom-builds aren't out of the question, but at least to start, I want these to feel like stock items they acquire and have to work to tweak.

Of course, this leaves me needing a system to accomodate both a lot of out-of-mech ground adventures and in-mech rock'em sock'em robots. Searching around I hear a lot about how BESM, OVA, GGG, and Mekton Zeta. Any of these particularly suited for what I'm trying to do, or are there others that might do better?

I'm currently converting WEG Star Wars D6 into a mecha game with a homebrew setting, but my group is aiming more for a gritty experience rather than a playing out a Super Robot anime.
>>

Mekton Zeta is crunchy as fuck and basically awful

GGG is the precursor to Battle Century G so if you're considering that just go check out BCG instead

BESM is a generalist system at its heart so meh

Don't even know what OVA is

I'd personally use Battle Century G

So I introduced a friend to WH40K,namely Dark Heresy by FF Games. He's a nice guy, and I have known him for years, but he's a political dude, and he believes very strongly in libertarian values; the rights of the individual and so on and so forth. So he started a debate with me about how the Imperium is so evil and everything, and said that I must've been trying to force my authoritarian and fascist views because my campaign was nothing but propaganda for my views.

Which leads me to my point, people who don't get that part of Wh40k. In WH40k, everyone is intolerant, the rights of the individual do not matter, tyranny is common, freedoms are practically non existent and it's pretty fascist. As agents of the Inquisition you can,and do, nab people without what we would call justifiable cause, there is no appeals, and there is nothing beyond summary judgement and execution for most after long and horrific torture.

But one thing that they don't get, one thing I had to explain to him again and again, is that the whole point of it is that it IS horrible, monstrous, and vile, but also completely necessary. Freedom becomes a joke when the other faith worships very real and very dangerous beings that want to kill you and encourage and demand evil actions from their followers, free thought invites extra dimensional parasites to use your cranium as a portal to attack the city you live in, alien cultures are trying to dominate/enslave you, and your species runs the risk of extinction if horrific measures aren't taken.

Dark Heresy is a horror game, and like any good horror it takes its horror from the flipping of reality; good dies, evil thrives. The light is dying, and you scrabble for something, anything to keep it alive so the monsters don't eat you. And in doing so you sacrifice liberty, justice, freedom, and happiness, because it's the only fuel left.

Survive by killing everything before it kills you, there is no peace, understanding and tolerance is stupidity.

Yeah, basically all the enlightened philosophy stuff in this universe turned out to be a trap by beings that will fuck you up not just because it's fun for them, but because it's in their very nature.

Mankind lives in the worst possible scenario because this is the best they can do, and the question is whether it would be better to die than live like this.

Hey, So I've decided to be a real piece of shit and get into the game of buying warhammer 40k (specifically, forge world) for a fraction of the price, dicking over GW in the process, because fuck those prices.

So I'm looking for several people with "a very particular set of skills", namely CoolCastorNot (CCON) and the ever elusive "Z", but any recasters that can be considered "reputable". I'm pretty much just looking for email addresses, the password for CCoN's catalogue and reviews/testimonials from people who have used them before (anything from if they're reputable, what they're good at, how quickly they reply/ship out, price differences etc).

So, /tg/, will you help me be a real asshole and steal models out from under GW and forge world?

Your name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and right now you’re trying to not fall asleep in English class. You were up kind of late last night after discovering some sort of thunder-Oni magic. That amazing discovery netted you a one way ticket to yard work this weekend. On the bright side you did manage to figure out how some of your Oni bullshit works, which was always neat. But on the not-so-bright side you didn’t get much sleep last night and now you’re suffering for it. English was one of your better classes as well, the material was somewhat interesting and the teacher wasn’t a giant asshat. It was after lunch as well, which meant that you were sleepy AND full, it’s as if God was tormenting you for shits and giggles. You blearily lift your head up to try and pay attention, it seems like Mr. Nash was still talking about the chapter of King Lear you were supposed to read, which you did. In your current state however you weren’t confident you could give a coherent answer if he asked you a question. Unfortunately you weren’t sitting in the back of the room and the likelihood of being called out was relatively high.

Welcome one, and I welcome you all to the tale of a world called Thespia.

Here is the odyssey of one that clings to this world with no face of their own! In a place where magic is fundamental to all of creation, all who live wear their lives upon their face, where a fire might wish to be the cooking fire of an inn!

The Faceless overcame the tyrant lord of Bikel, Stephan Grant, son of Mikael Grant. Thus, while wearing the face of the vengeful spirit "The Reaper of Aurel" otherwise known as Dramir, a story in the world of Thespia comes to an end as a hero arrives to deliver the accursed Guisi from their fates of enslavement and labor.

Yet despite this success, a shadow of doubt looms upon the horizon as the Reaper claimed victory from Lord Grant whilst in his Arche's true form, a secret kept by the Guisi at all costs for fear of true persecution at the hands of other Thespians.

Yet the curtain has closed upon that story and a sibling pair grow restless as they hear the whispers of the Guisi elders and their intent to make the Reaper disappear to ensure that there are no loose ends.

"We will not see our work undone."

It's Sol's zenith again upon another day on the road to Pruden, yet your party rides in much improved comfort. Biz sits upon the Lady Damsel's carriage(whom you learned to be Lady Cyrielle of Bordello Noveu). After dismantling the banditry that had been the Men in Tights, you rendezvoused with Odette for the results of her hunt, and set forth once more upon the carriage safe from the heat of Sol or the incessant pounding of your feet upon the shabby dirt road.

Lounging comfortably inside the cab with the other ladies, there's more than enough room to stretch out and relax, which Lady Cyrielle does especially so in the company of other ladies, slouching back into her seat and eating roasted nuts. Speckles of Sol's light filter through the interior curtains cascading luminescence upon you and Odette. The huntress, while happy for the ride, keeps her back straight and posture rather formal, despite your host being less than lady-like.

Despite her lack of Demeanor, Lady Cyrielle at least reapplied her makeup after the bout with the bandits, and though she felt the loss for her previous driver, getting far away from that whole debacle. Poor Biz however, he's likely sitting in a bloodstain...

“So, what business have you in Pruden, fair dancer?” Lady Cyrielle adjests her posture to be a bit straighter though not much, “And why do you travel with...” Lady Cyrielle gestures to Odette, seeming to notice the persisting presence of her horns, “A Guisi...? Or are you Makoh. Transitioning, perhaps?”

You smile delightfully, reflexively winking one of your eyes in a persistent flirtatious gesture, “Well to answer the first question, we're adventurers with the Guild, we've a quest some way south of Pruden. I've heard T'is a stop on the way to our final destination, Celes Pranse.” Crossing your arms, your eyes flick over to Odette, whose averting her gaze, Guisi horns still present, though small. “Something wrong with my companion?”
>>
>>45520867
“Just curious, most Guisi tend to... keep to themselves. You know, let alone travel with a fellow Namour.”

“To answer your question.” Odette speaks up, her tone clear as she stares right at Lady Cyrielle, “I'm transitioning, I need only wait for Akkoril to come with the summer and I'll wear the marks again. As for why I was a Guisi or why I'm ceasing the Arche, that is none of your business.”

Lady Cyrielle smiles, swiftly covering her mouth with a fan, “My, fiesty aren't you... Just like the Makoh I've known.” With a flick, she puts her fan away and tosses it to the floor of the cab, “C'et Li've. Something just always unnerved me about those Guisi, the way they look at you with those eyes...”

You are Tsukuda Ryouta, a Shinigami of the 12th Division with the unique role of an investigator of abnormal occurrences.

It could be said that even now, within the comforts of the Soul Society's wealthy Seireitei, you are looking into something unusual - a house for your adoptive mother.

Shinigami that originate from Rukongai do not bring their families with them because it is both a costly and seldom available option. Generally, if someone needs to be within the Seireitei, they already are. Noble families, no matter how small, have claimed themselves a speck of land within the walled safety of Soul Society's center, and still hold on to it many centuries later, and intend to continue to do so for centuries to come. There is no free space and no room to expand, as the First Districts of the Rukongai closely surround the castle from all sides, and the nobles have little want to mix with commoners.

The Shinigami are an exception to the stagnant state of affairs. Anyone, from any of the Rukongai's districts, no matter how poor or far, may apply to the Shin'o Academy. Success during training means that they are granted a right to live alongside the noble families, regardless of their origins, swathed in luxury and prestige... Or so the dream goes. In reality, being on the lower end of the Shinigami's hierarchy only provides the agent with the minimal food, water, and commune shelter needed to live, and it is still mostly birthright that decides how high they can climb the ladder. Even so, you've heard that it's leagues better than some of the alternatives.

Only a handful of Shinigami - the highest ranking and the most elite - own their own property in the Seireitei. Date Gorou, the 7th Division's ninth seated officer, is one of them. The officer is retiring, and is looking to do something about his house. Even though you are both seated at a table, discussing the matter of selling property over some tea, his massive stature still looms menacingly, even though the man clearly has no intention to intimidate anyone.

"I am retiring. It pains me to leave my many friends and comrades here behind, but there are matters that I must focus on." He explains, his massive hands making the teapot in them look tiny by comparison. He makes to fill your empty cup. "Tsukuda-san, I hope the terms are acceptable for you. As I've said, if you don't want the furniture, I could..."

"It's fine." You say, nodding your head in silent thanks as you sip the tea. Gorou has been rather eager to please, open to barter and compromises. It seems that he wants to get rid of the house as quickly as he can, but even so, he's been honest about the house's few downfalls, like the fact that it gets particularly cold during winters. It's nothing that couldn't be remedied, but despite that, the giant seemed rather nervous, clearly anticipating an unsatisfied reaction that ultimately never came. "It won't be difficult for us to redecorate if there is a need."

After a stern nod of his bald head, the documents are signed.

The house is now yours. It cost you a fortune, but it's not as if you have anything else that you wanted to purchase.

...Wanted. For just a brief moment, your steady breathing quivers. There is no necessity for you to own a house; the barracks should be sufficient for the work you do. Likewise, it is not 'necessary' for your mother to live so close, either.

It's just that you want her to be near.

...

>Ask Gorou why he needs to retire.
>Present the house to your mother as a surprise.
>Write her a letter and tell her to get ready to move to Seireitei.

You're still not sold on the idea, but after nearly two days on the trade road, you're starting to warm to this “train” thing, whatever it is. Not that you mind a long ride, of course – you couldn't do what you do if travelling long distances was such a burden – but there's a difference between trekking through the untamed wilderness and constantly rubbing shoulders with countless fellow travellers. Innumerable souls – farmers and pilgrims, traders and soldiers – coming and going between the twin cities of Tenn and Garuna make the road a busy place indeed.

In the early hours of your second day on the road, you stopped at the banks of the Dragon River itself, that great winding serpent, to wash. Said to be one of the most sacred places in all of Tenngaru – second only to the temple city of Garuna itself – those pure of heart and clear of mind are supposed to be able to hear whispers in the rush of water.

You listened hard. Like always, you heard nothing.

Even when your horse draws close to the Nameless Temple, you're still thinking about the Dragon River. When the Emperor of the time – Tatsuhiro the second, you recall – ordered a great bridge built across the river, there had been outrage. Some even claimed that the construction had been a turning point for the country, a symbolic victory that signalled the start of a new era. From that day onwards, some have said, the gods started to grow distant and spiteful, erratic and cruel.

And now Tatsuhiro the third want to send a great iron beast roaring across this sacred space whenever he pleases. It'll never happen, you think with vague doubt, he wouldn't start a war over something so petty and egotistical.

Then again...

Smiling bitterly to yourself, you dismount your horse and leave it in the able care of the stable attendants. Striding into the Nameless Temple, you pause only to glance at a cluster of posters, marked out with the faces of missing apprentices. There are a few more now, you realise with vague dismay, even in the short time you were away. Before you can think too hard about it, though, Howa calls out to you.

“Ira,” she greets you, “Back again, I see. Listen, I want-”

If she wants to give you another pointless riddle, you complain, she can bother someone else.

“Actually, I was going to apologise about that. Maybe, just maybe, I overdid it a little,” she smiles ruefully, leaning heavily on her cane, “I suppose I was just glad to have you all to myself for a little bit, just like old times. Can you forgive me?”

Why didn't the Eldar make friends with humanity, or fix the enmity that developed?

WFB elves made friends with humans when they weren't in as great of a situation, and in 40k, humanity controls almost the entire galaxy. They have uncountable bodies to throw at problems when Eldar are reluctant to let one of their number die. And many of them are fanatics that can easily be swayed in one direction or another and never question orders. Why couldn't they just bury their pride and make friends with a race of literal meatshields? Humans could fight more effectively with Eldar guidance, if not technology or direct military help, and they both hate Chaos and most other Xenos anyway.

anyone remember back in the pre-release of 4e they promised a digital token creator when you could have a vast number of pieces to select to make a damn good looking character?

To be fair, that fell apart because shit went down with the company that was contracted for it.

It's so bright today, It's almost like the sun is burning a bit brighter than usual for some weird reason. There's not a cloud in the sky today. I smile, looking up at the blue sky as I hang my legs off the side of one of the half broken towers of the fort. You know, I don't really look at the sky enough, never did in my old life, and I barely do it here. I raise my hand up, watching the red chitin and silver fluff of my arms move with it as I raise my hand to cover the sun, feeling its heat pour over my palm, as it slowly washes down my arm and to the rest of me. It feels odd, having the sun on my chitin. My wings stretch and flutter behind me as I turn my hand over, and bring it closer to my face. I wiggle around my fingers, my red nails glinting in the warm morning light all around me.

I sigh and put my arm on the edge of the tower, sighing as I slump forward, before smiling again. This is all still so...weird, I mean I'm glad I'm not dead and I can still be with my friends and all, but the whole world just seems more crisp, and everything looks just so much more beautiful, I just want to look and bask in everything's glow, which I never wanted to do before, it's like I took everything for granted or something.

I shake my head, putting my hand over the cold silver flame that's taken the place of my missing eye, a gentle and soothing breeze blows past me and ruffling my now much longer and fluffier hair, and the fluff that pokes out from under my chitin.

I guess I'm just still on the high of people not hating me for no good reason, everyone around here is treating me like I'm some kind of princess or something, not that I'm complaining. I giggle and shake my head as I stand up, looking down at my friends in the courtyard, each doing there own thing.

the soldiers trying to figure out how to get along with the same monsters they've been fighting against for who knows how long.

I bet bailey would love to see all of this, I wonder what she's doing right now.

The whole courtyard is cleaned up, actually it's more sort of cleared, of all boxes and other trash. A few tattered golden flags with seven lines through them dance lazily on the air, and there are giant barrels which I'm pretty sure are just holding a whole fuck ton of wine in them

And all of it is to prepare for the priests coming to see me

I shake my head, it all seems so..stupid? no just kind of silly I guess, I mean...I'm still just me, just a little...mothy

What do I do?
[] Go find Lucy *Currently hanging around the wine barrels, having a bit of an enlightenment*
[] Find Sam *Still taunting and insulting various soldiers*
[] Find Minor *trying to make pizza*
[] Fine Berry *training in the courtyard*
[] Find little green *Watching everything suspiciously*
[] Find Poi *in the water room*
[] Find smiley cat *Hiding in a corner, alone*
[] Go to the soldiers and see how they're doing
[] Hang out with the monster mash
[] Find Commander Fentil and ask him something
[] fly around for a bit
[] write in
