You turn away from the window and walk back to the couch. Outside, the Moon's energy is already being funneled into the space that will become the Arena.

Say what you will about the gods, they are nothing if not efficient.

"Mew" Moriarty says.
"Yeah, Fuzzball. It's still me" You say. "Probably..."
"Mrow" He says.

You chuckle as you sit down, and Moriarty hops up beside you.

"I don't know what I mean by 'probably'. I don't feel any different, yet I still feel somehow... strange" You say.
"Meow" Moriarty replies.
You raise an eyebrow at him. "That's rich coming from someone who licks his own butthole" You say, as you reach over and scrath his head. "But I still love you"

You lean back and smile as Moriarty begins to purr. You guess some things don't change.

Given how normal things seem, it's almost hard to believe the crazy shit you've been through. And had you not lived through it, you probably wouldn't believe it...

But it all happened- err... maybe not. Now that you've made your changes, none of the things you've experienced took place.

The love, the hate, the life, the death, all of it is gone. Reset. An impossible action made possible by a god who broke free of his 3 dimensional existance.

"And now the real work begins..." You say.
"Meeeeer" Moriarty says.
"What will I do now?" You ask. "That's... a good question..."

You suppose sitting here petting/talking to your cat isn't the most productive thing you could be doing...

The dim light was leaking through the blinds and into your small office.
It was the kind of faint light that barely manages to penetrate the clouds in an overcast day.
Stuck in front of your writing machine, you’re trying to assemble a report as accurate as possible of your activities in the past operation.
It had been nothing more than a classical infiltration and espionage mission in order to take down a black market circle, however the ringleaders proved to be extremely tenacious. Even when surrounded and outnumbered by your men, they decided to attempt to flee, forcing you to give chase.
The pursuit had been rowdy, involving considerable damage to private property, and you were tasked with writing down the official report, a chore you usually prefer to leave to others.

And yet this time the Marshall insisted, on the grounds that under certain circumstance, the Protectorate could waive civil responsibility, if damage to private property was incurred in an anti-terrorism operation. One of the conditions, of course, was that the Chief of Operations had to personally relate on his conduct and his decision, explaining carefully why they were taken and why they were strictly necessary.

When you were a child, looking at the posters of the SSA made you think of a bright and exciting future defending the borders of the Protectorate from Mutants and from the greedy corporations of the North. Then, with time, you came to realize that what you were protecting was not your people, but the Lord Protector and his ministers, all the while becoming the embodiment of all that is despicable in the eyes of the commoners.
>>

Caeruleans especially were never fond of the Secret Security Agency. Living in the capital, they enjoyed a lifestyle somewhat more luxurious than the rest of their fellow countrymen, and with wealth came liberalism.
You’ve been working on the report for hours now, thinking to yourself that paper work isn’t that bad after all. You’re young, maybe you can still quit the Agency and find yourself another job. A job where people don’t hate you by default.
Yeah, that’s what you will do. You will hand this in as soon as you’re done, have a talk with the Marshall and…
Somebody’s knocking on the door.
“I am coming in, Blecynzki.”
Speak of the devil.
Marshall Pleckanov, a tall, stern man in his sixties, was in charge of the SSA Department of Caerulea. An extremely reasonable man, considering the environment in which he worked. It is rumored that he resents the General Director of the SSA and his only superior, Commander Tsenno.

You stand up on attention, to which he responds just waiving his hand as to tell you not to bother.
“I need to talk with you, Blecynski. Can you spare a few?”

You are Ur'shal, Chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan and Warlord of the Wastes. With the shifters dealt with, the jungle to the south has opened up to you considerably. While the large area you have cleared of rivals does grant you more than enough hunting grounds to ensure the survival of your growing clan, it's hard to truly claim that you rule this land. You lack the warriors to hold more than a fraction of the territory, and you are well aware that it's only a matter of time before others notice the power vacuum developing to your south and move to fill it.

While your spy is at work to the north, and the ogress coven expands your camp to make room for the influx of shifter slaves, you have to think about how to address this problem. The trickle of orcs from the deep wastes seeking out your clan is far from a reliable source of reinforcements, and it will be over a decade before your clan's numerous whelps are ready to follow you into battle. No, what you need is to find larger groups of orcs to reinforce your numbers, or perhaps non-orcs who could be coerced into serving as front-line fodder. All this, while being mindful of the risk of spreading your forces too thin to deal with your ongoing draconic concerns.

/tg/ how do you deal with different species/civilizations levels?

In every single game I've ever played, or hosted its unavoidable that the player starting zone is roughly the same level as the party. And naturally big-bads or tougher opponents will be found at some extreme of the World, or a very deep dungeon or etc..

But this has never made sense to me, surely if these countries or species were literally statistically far superior to another species wouldn't that species be dominant?

So /tg/ how would you go about justifying leveled zones?

They aren't. The big dogs fight the big dogs of the area, and the small fry fight the small fry of the area.

>But this has never made sense to me, surely if these countries or species were literally statistically far superior to another species wouldn't that species be dominant?
You know how there are swarms of ants that can, between poison bites and sheer numbers, take down elephants?

It's the same thing. For every max level badass there's likely a million or more dudes with access to fire, poison, artillery and more. Skirmish level combat rules collapse in the face of those numbers unless you're a painfully autistic RAWfag about everything in your game to the point where game law violates common sense.

Help me to understand this.
It's more effort than typing out villain, sounds dumb, and is just as unspecific if not moreso.

It was supposed to be your honeymoon back at your new wife's home country in Europe.

Here you were together in this plane sharing a kiss, a caress of the cheek, and sweet little nothing's to each other.

Eventually boredom set in as you go to the restroom, you excuse your from your loving wife Rachel as you scooch past a flight attendant and enter the room.

You promptly finish your business and make to open the and return to your seats. She asks what took you so long but you didn't you were in there that long.

Suddenly a shaking and turbulence occurs as she plane tilts downwards you can see the ocean below getting closer and until green and brown grave site just the plane crashes.

You wake and scream as though from a nightmare. You swivel your head as you find yourself on a patch of earth in a forest. The beach was just beyond the clearing. The plane nor anybody else was here, just you and your empty shoulder bag.

No fucking clue. I imagine the kind of rations the IG get are based on whatever the current campaign conditions and regional supply lines allow. That's the general vibe I get.

I remember reading about something called: "reconstituted reclaimed meat by-product" in a BL novel which was supposed to be that planet's version of SPAM.

Then there was another instance of guardsmen hunting game on a temperate world to supplement their rations.

I think it' safe to assume that the Departmento Munitorum has it's MRE equivalent and everything else is supplied from the nearest agri-world.

They're called Corpse Starch (CS) Rations. People argue that they're not actually made with corpses, but most agree that it's good old fashioned soylent green.

You tend to avoid visiting the archives very often. You've just been reminded why.

It wasn't the peace and quiet that did it – that was a welcome break from the noisy chatter of the communal dining hall. It wasn't the dry, cool air either – a pleasant change from the warm, ale scented fog that clings to everything inside a tavern. No, it was the awful banshee that shrieked at you, the perverse demon that obsessed over the rare and ancient book you are now staring at.

But you shouldn't complain about her too much, since Howa was able to give you some advice.

Take it to the Mentor, she suggested, and see if he recognises the language. Meanwhile, she'd be working on a translation of her own, since her own curiosity had been aroused. Once she's taken something as an intellectual challenge, that woman is unstoppable. Irritable while the problem remains unsolved, and smug when the problem IS solved, but definitely unstoppable.

As she toils in the archives – you warned her about the thing you saw there, but she waved off your concerns – you're waiting for the Mentor to see you. In your lap, the book in question, an ancient thing written in a language far older than the paper its written on. The book is a curiosity, an anomaly, something that seems to exist in all the wrong ways. That, at least, is what your instincts are telling you.

You trust your instincts, but you trust the Mentor's advice just as much. That is why, as you're shown into the Mentor's chambers and sit at a low table, you push the book across to the old man. Waiting, not quite sure what to expect, he peers down and strokes the leather cover.

“This is old,” he muses, “And you brought it to me... because I am old as well?”

Well, you flounder for a moment, sort of. You figured he might be able to tell you something, anything, about the language used. As you explain, the Mentor lifts the cover of the book, peers into the first page and then lets the cover drop. It falls with a heavy, hollow thump.

“I can tell you nothing,” he says bluntly, “You are correct – I am old. Old enough to forget a lot of things, and to know what things are better left forgotten. Leave this alone, Ira, no good will come of digging any deeper.”

You are silent for a moment as you think his words over. Is that, you ask eventually, an order?

“A suggestion,” the Mentor replies immediately, “Given in good faith. You may decide your own path. Now, excuse me please – I believe we both have business elsewhere.”

Nodding cautiously, you rise and bow slightly before walking out.

>Give the book to Howa and see what she can translate
>Return the book to the archives. No good can come of this
>Stash the book in your room. You'll decide later

Right after that our spears will drop - line after line of optimally armored spearmen. Just as the contact will start, our armored cavalry will flank them. If needed, our officers will take action without consulting the superiors. It's how we trained these men. It's how discipline works. It's why beast will always fall to discipline and order. Describe a premise for a campaign in one sentence.

I just spent an ungodly amount of time writing out minute details of a campaign, custom items, etc. Got all my players to make characters with detailed setting appropriate backstories, only to realize I kind of hate my setting and running games for it is going to be horrible.

So help me get some creative juices flowing for an idea that doesn't suck /tg/, you're my only hope.

Sci-fi or Fantasy, anything goes.

I'm a beginner at all kinds of RPG, with only a tiny amount of experience with d&d4e, but I wanna learn how to DM. I know a bunch of settings well enough to run a game in it, but my problem is I'm shit with rules and math. Any suggestion for a system that's really simple to learn and run, with few rules and lots of adaptability so I can use it in different settings?

P.s preferably something that has a system for social/out of combat "puzzles" or whatever, so it's not just combat and combat and more combat.

Sets like this encourage players to buy product direct from a FLGS instead of online for singles, since there's a high chance of getting a profit on each pack.

The lower prices greatly diminish the barrier for entry and helps both poorer and new players alike to get into the game.

Pro players understand that the cards are going to get reprinted, but much like technology, they pay extra due to being an early adopter.

The reprinting of so many staples creates a more healthy competitive environment.

The only people who lose out are those who speculate and invest in cardboard, something that harms every other aspect of the community.

So tell me, why is reprinting ~60 of the most heavily requested and used considered bad? The secondary market imploding doesn't restrict supply or availability in any way, shape or form.

I'm quickly beginning to realize that my 'favorite' d20 (Chessex, translucent orange with white swirled in, black numbers) is a conniving piece of shit. >Character creation has been simplified by having players fill in the blanks to the statement:

>"I am a __________ __________ who _________s."

> The first blank, the adjective in the sentence, is filled in by a character's "Descriptor", a way to describe the character's strongest characteristic.
> The second blank, the noun of the sentence, is filled in by a character's "Type", which is either a "Glaive" (a warrior type), a "Nano" (a technology adept type), or a "Jack" (as in jack-of-all-trades).
> The third blank, the verb of the sentence, is filled in by a character's "Focus", or what the character is most known for or their special talent.[7]

Nah, the expendable artifacts are things you find and are supposed to have a constant flow of them. You can only carry a certain number of these doodads, at higher levels you get more slots so you can keep more around to increase your versatility.
