An anon requested I run a travelling merchant quest, so I'm giving it a try..
There's a market at The Cliff. The stalls have been stocked from the caves in the chalk cliff behind and each sport a calling merchant. You take a quick look around from where you're standing, seeing what's for sale near you.
Fish. The market always smells of fish and its skies are always patrolled by seagulls. Fish and shellfish and eels carried back from the sea on small boats and rafts. Sometimes corals and anemones.
Wood. A load of timber from the forest. Smells of pine. That'll build more boats for more men to catch more fish and eels. Timber might not be a good use of space on your small sailcraft but there may also be woodland flowers, furs or spices for sale.
A breeze from the ocean cools you while you think while the spring sun shines down from above.

Hey /eternal/.
Have you guys tried 93/94 yet? It's pretty great.
I'm hoping to play some at GP Detroit this weekend. They're discussing setting up a sanctioned event. I'd play in the Vintage event but I'll likely still be grinding the main event for planeswalker points.

What
>Beginner GM.
>All encounter are either too strong or too weak for the player.
I can not judge the strength of the monster.
What system are you using, Pepe?
>>45779328
Shadow of the demon lord
>>45779316
Can't really solve this problem except to try more. Eventually you'll get the hang of it.
In general though, I recommend starting with an encounter whatever system you're in ranks as easy, then work your way up, as it's worse to unexpectedly massacre your players than to give them one easy fight.
Also keep in mind that the challenge of the monsters has to be tuned to each individual party, as each time they will have a different combination of strengths, weaknesses, etc.
Why are the sales of tabletop rpgs so bad?
Because it's an incredibly niche hobby.
>>45777315
This. And generally they're only advertised to people who already know what they're looking for. You're not going to see an ad for D&D on television or in a magazine that isn't already devoted to typical "nerd" hobbies.
>>45777315
This, and that for the most part, once you buy the books and guides, you dont really need anything else until the next edition come out.

"WTF are you doing player" Thread
All stupid (awesome ?) ideas, undertaken or not
>>45777060
Why'd you let him do that?
>>45777060
Good job; you failed to reign in a stupid PC, and damaged a relationship with the new guy.
Your fault
>>45777060
...why'd you allow it? The DM always has the right to veto insane shit like this, since you probably lost a player here.
More like WTF, DM as far as I'm concerned.
Why have you never played the best fantasy role playing game ever made?
>>45775077
Because nobody is running it and I don't have the cash to buy the core game nor the time to run it myself if I did have the cash.
So vanilla D&D for me twice a month.
>>45775077
Because I can't find a GM for Dungeons the Dragoning 40k.
I actually really like WHFRP 3rd edition. I own the core set and a couple of expansions, but unfortunately I do most of my RPing online, so I've not had many chances to play it. The IRL experiences I've had with it were great, though.
Do "roleplaying heavy" 3.5/PF/5e campaigns that are "more about intrigue, investigation, exploration, and politics than combat" exacerbate the martial/caster disparity even further?
>intrigue, investigation, exploration, and politics
>D&D
>>45772875
This is, sadly, what too many Roll20 campaigns try to do to count.
>>45772862
Yes, since martial characters usually don't have enough skills they can use out of combat while casters do, or can get by with spells that replicate those skills.
How much has the quality and accessibility of steel changed throughout history? How would a steel sword differ throughout the ages? From a sword made today with modern materials to a steel sword made in the iron age or early medieval era?
Are there any RPGs that go into this kind of nitty gritty detail?
>>45771591
I think there is a lot on how you work your steel. Got shit iron with too much carbon? Beat it until the carbon is burned off and you got a good ratio. There are many techniques that probably were lost. Also we don't have much reason to make an overly expensive and laborious sword today. We compensate that with better materials so our swords are better than the average sword back them I think but slightly better swords might have existed.
>>45772436
I think the perfect "modern" sword has yet to be realized in the same way the compound bow is the modern refinement of its pre-modern ancestor. We've seen people reproduce functional versions of many historical swords to parity, but never something that could undeniably be said to be a net improvement over its earlier counterpart; largely because swords have limited utility compared to knives or bows or various other early weapons which have some other utility purpose.
Is there any point in getting hung up over how 'believable' a character backstory is for their starting level, when their adventures in the campaign make them gain levels every few days?
Doesn't that completely shatter the concept of needing years of experience to be mid-level?
>>45770987
That assumes that you will be gaining levels every few days.
It really depends on the scale and scope of the game. There isn't really a "correct" answer so long as it all remains internally consistent.
>when their adventures in the campaign make them gain levels every few days?
>Assuming people are running Monty Haul 'adventures'
I see you pulled out your biggest bait to start with, OP.
>>45771008
This would be your answer, if you were serious.
So here I am, browsing /tg/, when I see a strang lack of Orks, and a sudden abundance of Spess Mehreens! Outrage I say!
Roll a d10 to see whether we are a Proppa Klan or Freebootas!
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>45770983
Looks like we're Freebootas!
Now roll a d10 to pick a color, ye git!
Rolled 2 (1d10)
>>45771006
oi git!
Why can't GMs who dislike your character concept just tell you "No" instead of waffling around and going "Ehhhhh, I'll allow it but you'll have to take stat penalties/get ostracized in game"? Or worse, they allow it and then not so subtly dick you over in game because of the concept.
I'm flexible and can change my concept to better suit the GM's preferences, but I can't stand this passive-aggressive bullshit. Is it so hard to say "No"?
>>45770766
Depends on the person. Some people are too beta to say no, but too petty not to be a passive aggressive little shit.
Try finding a different group.
>>45770766
Why can't my players who's character concept I veto just say "No" instead of waffling around online and going "but I can't stand this passive-aggressive bullshit."? Or worse, they don't and silently stew with hidden anger and resentment
I'm flexible and can work with my players to better their characters to suit the setting, but I can't stand this passive-aggressive bullshit. Is it so hard to say "No"?
Seriously though whining on the internet doesn't help you. Have you considered talking to your DM?
>>45770861
Yes.
What is /tg/'s favorite TGC ?
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Magic the Gathering or
Pokemon
My favorite is Yugioh
>>45769996
yugioh>mtg>shit>vanguard>pokemon
>>45770037
Yeah, I used to like Pokemon TGC when I was in 2nd-3rd grade,I noticed that the only thing people did was trade and never battled, because nobody knew who to play it,the kids that had the "best " cards where the rich ones who can afford all the individual legendaries/Foils/EX's. I started to play Yu-Gi-Oh around 6th grade and loved it, it had a nice balance of Battling and Collection, and they were MUCH cheaper, sam thing with MTG at 10th grade and now occasionally play MTG but mostly play Yugioh
>>45770211
I play occasional friendly EDH games with some local guys, but I play "meta" yugioh.
though I play petdecks against meta.
Alright /tg/, lets get our heresy on!
Roll me a 1d20 for the background of our cult.

The cult has opperators from the highest of command in the entire sector. Shit son, were practically royalty here!
Roll me a 1d20 for the cults ideas. What does the cult stand for?
Rolled 5 (1d20)
>>45766845
The cult is better than royalty. They are the guys who keep the royalty under thumb and bolt gun.
Karl Pilkington shows up in your setting to film an episode of An Idiot Abroad.
